Linking soil enzymes and microbial community dynamics with organic carbon fluctuations for sustaining the soil health.
In the mountainous regions, where irrigation water is scarce and temperatures are less than ideal, we aimed to explore the combined effects of mulching and organic manure on organic carbon fluctuations, microbial populations and enzymatic activities in soil under ginger. A two-year field study (2021 and 2022) was conducted at Dr. YS Parmar University, Solan, Himachal Pradesh, using a split plot design. Main plot treatments included grass (straw) mulch, black plastic mulch (25 and 100 µ thickness). Sub plot treatments consisted of farmyard manure (FYM), vermicompost (VC) and sheep-goat manure (SGM), alone or in combination. Grass mulch showed the highest soil organic carbon content (19.02 g kg− 1), viable bacteria (132.65 × 106 ± 1.66 cfu g− 1 soil), fungi (35.73 × 103 ± 1.86 cfu g− 1 soil), actinomycetes count (45.50 × 103 ± 0.78 cfu g− 1 soil) and enzymatic activities (646.17 ± 8.77 µg of p-NPP g− 1 soil hr− 1 acid phosphatase, 6.16 ± 0.15 mg TPF g− 1 soil per 24 h dehydrogenase and 17.84 ± 0.20 mg NH3-N g− 1 soil per hr urease) among mulches. Among the sub plot treatments, FYM combined with 50% RDF (recommended dose of fertilizers) through FYM and SGM generated the best results in terms of soil organic carbon (17.63 g kg− 1) microbial counts (135.40 × 106 ± 2.58 cfu g− 1 soil viable bacteria, 39.93 × 103 ± 1.92 cfu g− 1 soil viable fungi and 44.48 × 103 ± 0.99 cfu g− 1 soil) and enzymatic activities (524.06 ± 11.33 µg of p-NPP g− 1 soil hr− 1 acid phosphatase, 6.55 ± 0.10 mg TPF g− 1 soil per 24 h dehydrogenase and 18.04 ± 0.17 mg NH3-N g− 1 soil per hr urease). Positive correlations were observed between soil organic carbon, microbial biomass carbon, microbial populations and enzymatic activities. Principal component analysis (PCA) revealed two key components explaining 94.5% of the total variance in soil health parameters under mulching and manuring, with PC1 (79.4%) dominated by organic carbon, microbial counts and enzymatic activities and PC2 (15.1%) mainly associated with enzymatic functions. The synergistic effects of grass mulch and FYM with SGM provide a blueprint for resilient soil ecosystems.
Read moreDNA Barcoding of Eight Species of the Subtribe Polyommatina (Polyommatinae, Lycaenidae) from North Western India
There is need to strengthen the barcode reference library of Indian butterfly species to better understand the genetic structure of these species. The present study addresses by generating barcodes for eight species of subtribe Polyommatina, including high altitude species Plebejus samudra which is barcoded for the first time globally. All the generated DNA barcodes submitted to the Genbank and accession numbers have been procured. The phylogenetic relationships were inferred using the maximum likelihood method. All the eight sequenced species grouped within the monophyletic clades along with other congeneric species. The Intergeneric, interspecific and intraspecific divergence values were also calculated.

Introduction: Toll-Like Receptor 4 (TLR4) is vital for the innate immune system as it recognizes a wide array of pathogens, such as bacteria, fungi, and viruses. TLR4 activates downstream signaling pathways upon recognizing microbial components, triggering and regulating the immune response. With improvements in genomic technologies, it has become possible to identify Single-Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) in genes coding for immune receptors, such as TLR4. These genetic differences may affect the way TLR4 reacts to various pathogens and thus the intensity and outcome of immune responses. It is essential to have a comprehensive understanding of SNPs associated with TLR4 to assess individual susceptibility to infection and inform personalized medicine strategies. Methods: Multiple scientific literature review databases were utilized to examine TLR4 SNPs and their roles in pathogen recognition, immune signaling, and disease outcomes. These studies elaborated the role of TLR4 polymorphisms in various forms of infections involving bacteria, fungi, and viruses. Results: Some polymorphisms in the TLR4 gene, including rs4986790 [Asp299Gly] and rs4986791 [Thr399Ile], have been associated with differing immune responses and increased susceptibility to septic shock, candidiasis, tuberculosis, and viral infections. This inhibition of TLR4 signaling by the mutant alleles augments some arms of immune response while inhibiting others, which in turn affects the severity of the infection and the response to treatment. Discussion: This review focuses on the identification and examination of SNPs in TLR4 and their association with infectious diseases caused by pathogens. The review also examines the impact of these SNPs on TLR4 signaling pathways and the immune response. Polymorphisms in the TLR4 gene, including rs4986790 [Asp299Gly] and rs4986791 [Thr399Ile], have been associated with differing immune responses and increased susceptibility to septic shock, candidiasis, tuberculosis, and viral infections. Conclusion: Recognition of TLR4 SNPs would provide information on susceptibility to various infections and immune modulation. Current knowledge of genetic variations will lead to the identification of biomarkers for infectious diseases, and consequently, patient-specific treatment and vaccine generation targeted toward specific genotypes in precision medicine, particularly in immunology.

Graphene/CNT Nanocomposites: Processing, Properties, and Applications
Carbon nanotube (CNT) and graphene-reinforced nanocomposites have become exceptional multifunctional materials because of their exceptional mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties. Recent developments in synthesis methods, dispersion strategies, and interfacial engineering have effectively overcome agglomeration-related limitations by significantly improving filler distribution, matrix compatibility, and load-transfer efficiency. These nanocomposites have better wear durability, corrosion resistance, and surface properties like super-hydrophobicity. A comparative analysis of polymer, metal, and ceramic matrices finds benefits for applications in biomedical, construction, energy, defense, and aeronautics. Functionally graded architecture, energy-harvesting nanogenerators, and additive manufacturing are some of the new fabrication processes that enhance design flexibility and functional integration. In recent years, scalability, life-cycle evaluation, and environmentally friendly processing have all gained increased attention. The development of next-generation, high-performance graphene and carbon nanotube (CNT)-based nanocomposites is critically reviewed in this work, along with significant obstacles and potential next steps.

Abstract Lipomas are benign mesenchymal neoplasms composed of mature adipose tissue, most frequently found in subcutaneous regions. We report a case of a pure intra-thyroid lipoma. A 55-year-old Moroccan woman presented with a longstanding cervical mass. Clinical examination revealed a goitre, and thyroid function tests showed a euthyroid profile. Cervical ultrasound revealed a large right lobar thyroid nodule and a 6 mm left-sided nodule classified as EU-TIRADS 3, with no suspicious features. The patient underwent a total thyroidectomy after discussion of management options; the patient preferred definitive surgical management. Histopathological examination demonstrated a follicular adenoma occupying the entire right lobe, while the left lobe contained a 6 mm, well-circumscribed, encapsulated lipomatous lesion composed entirely of mature adipocytes, with no associated thyroid tissue. Only histopathological images are available for inclusion. This case highlights the rarity of pure intra-thyroid lipoma and emphasizes the role of careful histopathological assessment in distinguishing fat-containing thyroid lesions.
