Reduced Time Consumption Local Directional Ternary Pattern (RTC-LDTP) using Performance-Enhanced Directional Mask (PEDM) with SVM classifier
In this paper, we propose a framework for texture classification that improves the traditional Local Directional Ternary Pattern (LDTP) by integrating a Performance-Enhanced Directional Mask (PEDM). This innovative approach addresses the limitations of existing texture analysis techniques, such as time-consuming, computational inefficiency, and limited robustness by using optimized directional masks and Gaussian second-derivative filters to achieve higher noise resilience and efficiency. The PEDM captures both structural and directional texture details, enabling robust encoding of local spatial patterns with low time complexity. The proposed RTC-LDTP algorithm generates distinct upper and lower pattern codes, which are combined into a discriminative feature vector for classification. Employing a Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier, the proposed method demonstrates significant performance improvements across multi ple datasets, including KTH_TIPS2_a, KTH_TIPS2_b and CUReT achieving competitive accuracy and reducing computational overhead. This study establishes the PEDM as a robust solution for real-world texture classification, setting new benchmarks for accuracy and efficiency.

Effect of AILE on Working and Reference Memory of Ketamine Induced Memory Impaired Male Wistar Rats in Radial Arm Maze (RAM)
Background: Memory impairment involves a decline in memory, cognition, behavior and daily functioning. Conventional treatments often fall short due to the complex mechanisms underlying memory loss, diminishing effectiveness over time and having significant side effects. In this context, medicinal herbs have gained attention for their broad therapeutic benefits and lower risk of adverse effects. Among them, Azadirachta indica leaf extract (AILE) is notable for its diverse biological properties, making it a promising candidate for addressing cognitive decline. Objective: The study aimed to evaluate the effects of AILE on spatial working and reference memory in male Wistar rats with ketamine-induced memory impairment. Ketamine, a known NMDA receptor antagonist, was used to induce cognitive deficits, which were assessed using the Radial Arm Maze (RAM). Methods: This experimental study was conducted in the Department of Physiology at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka, using 30 male Wistar rats (200±50 g body weight) sourced from the university's central animal house. The rats were divided into three groups: Group 1 (G1) normal memory, Group 2 (G2) memory impaired, Group 3 (G3) experimental, respectively. Ethical approval for this research was obtained from the Institutional Review Board (IRB) of BSMMU. Data were analyzed using ANOVA, Bonferroni post hoc tests, and Student's paired t-test with significance set at p≤0.05. Results: In the RAM test, ketamine-treated rats exhibited a significant increase in both working memory errors and reference memory errors (p≤0.001), indicating substantial memory impairment. However, rats treated with AILE showed a significant reduction in both working memory errors and reference memory errors (p≤0.001) compared to the ketamine-only group. These results suggest that AILE effectively mitigates ketamine-induced cognitive deficits, improving both working and reference memory performance in the RAM. Conclusion: AILE demonstrated significant neuroprotective effects against ketamine-induced memory impairment, likely through modulation of NMDA receptor function, reduction of oxidative stress, and inhibition of apoptotic pathways. These findings suggest AILE's potential as a therapeutic agent for cognitive deficits involving NMDA receptor dysfunction.

Hypospadias is a birth defect that involves the development of a penile urethra that opens on the ventral side of the penis. Proximal hypospadias is one of the most severe forms of hypospadias that is generally associated with chordee. Hypospadias surgery, especially in the proximal location, is challenging, and many operations have been proposed, including one-stage and two-stage operations. Objectives: The aim of the study was to evaluate the success rate and safety of a single-stage surgery in children with proximal hypospadias and to determine the complications. Materials and Methods: This interventional study was conducted on forty patients, aged between one and twelve years, who had proximal hypospadias and were admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital between January 2014 and April 2015. A one-step operation with tabularized incised plate urethroplasty (TIPU) was done. Patients’ demographic data, intraoperative details, and postoperative outcomes were recorded within 3 months after the operation. Results: The common age at surgery was 2-4 years, and they were 40% of the total patients. There was Haematoma in 5% of cases, a devitalized skin flap in 7.5% of cases, and stent blockage in 10% of cases during the immediate postoperative period. In our 3-month follow-up, all the patients had conical glans and cylindrical penises. Meatal stenosis and narrow stream were noted in 5 percent of patients but were relieved with meatal dilatation. Urethrocutaneous fistulas remained patients in 7.5% of cases. Conclusion: TIPU repair of proximal hypospadias is safe, effective, yields good results, and has low risks of complications in otherwise healthy children. It is a less risky and more viable method that helps to exclude extra steps in the process.

Genetic characterization may provide useful insights into severe acute respiratory coronavirus 2 (SARS CoV 2) circulating in Bangladesh. Here we analyzed the SARS Cov 2 positive 41 nasopharyngeal samples collected in lysis buffer obtained at different regional national laboratories of Bangladesh during July – December 2020. Full length spike gene was amplified and SARS CoV 2 was confirmed upon Sanger sequencing. Multiple ClustalW alignment and phylogenetic study of 15 strains showed that genetically diverse SARS CoV 2 is circulating in the country where 80 documented and 55 novel substitutions have been observed in different regions of spike glycoprotein. Major mutations and/or deletions was identified at conserved amino acid positions that are functionally linked to host transition, antigenic drift, host surface receptor binding or antibody recognition sites, and viral oligomerization interfaces that may have significant effects on pathogenic capacity and epidemiological signatures.

Some aspects of biology of the bar-eyed goby Glossogobius giuris (Hamilton 1822) (Perciformes: gobiidae) from Netrakona
The investigation was conducted on some aspects of biology viz. morphometrics, meristics, length-weight relationship and coefficient of condition of the Bar-eyed goby Glossogobius giuris. The mean of total length (TL) (94.42 ± 18.52 mm), standard length (SL) (73.13 ± 3.45mm), pre-dorsal length (PDL) (28.8 ± 7.32mm), head length (HL) (23.9 ± 4.87mm), snout length (SnL) (8.15 ± 1.9 mm) and height of body (HB) (14.17 ± 3.29mm) were determined. The relationships between the total length and other body parameters were found to be positively correlated and highly significant. The fin formula is D1.6; D2.1/9-10; P1.17-21; P2.1/5; A.1/9; C.17. The length-weight relationships of combined sex of G. giuris were determined as Log TW = -4.802 + 2.857 Log TL. The coefficient of conditions from the ko of combined sex and from the kc of combined sex was determined as 0.834 ± 0.132 and 0.827 ± 0.027, respectively. Kn values of combined sex were found to be 1.001 ± 0.156.J. Asiat. Soc. Bangladesh, Sci. 42(1): 95-106, June 2016
