Znanstvena monografija je posvečena upokojenemu izrednemu profesorju za filozofijo na Univerzi v Mariboru Rudiju Kotniku. Na začetku imamo prispevek slavljenca, ki služi kot motivacija ostalim prispevkom. Vsebinsko je monografija razdeljena na tri sklope, ki sledijo njegovi pedagoški in raziskovalni vnemi, da uberemo celosten in družbeno odgovoren pristop pri iskanju odgovorov na vprašanja Zakaj? Kaj? Kako?. V prvem sklopu se avtorice in avtorji ukvarjajo z razlogi, namenom in upravičenostjo poučevanja in učenja filozofije. Poudarjajo transformativno moč filozofije, ki presega kritično mišljenje, saj vodi k spreminjanju izobraževanja, posameznika/sebe in sveta. Filozofija naj bi razvijala spoznavne vrline (pogum, vedoželjnost, odprta miselna naravnanost …) ter spodbujala pluralizem in kozmopolitizem. V drugem sklopu so zajeta raziskovanja odgovorov na vprašanji, kaj je poučevanje in učenje filozofije ter kaj učiti in poučevati. Osredotočajo se na samo opredelitev ter vsebino poučevanja in učenja filozofije. V zadnjem, tretjem sklopu razprav avtorice in avtorji obravnavajo vprašanje, kako poučevati filozofijo. Skupna točka so elementi metod, ki temeljijo na sodelovanju, medsebojnem spoštovanju in dialogu. Poudarjajo, da je poučevanje in učenje filozofije hkrati tudi njeno ustvarjanje.

Abstract Supporting electrical engineering (EE) undergraduates to be prepared for the workforce is an ever-present concern for EE departments. This presentation will share student and faculty perceptions of a three-course sequence on the Professional Formation of Engineers. The course sequence is designed to provide EE students with professional skills and career development to broaden their educational experience and better prepare them for the workforce. Using external evaluation data and a mixed methods approach, the presentation will describe student perceptions of whether each course meets its intended objectives, the skills they gain from the course, and students' suggestions for course improvement. The presentation will also highlight faculty perceptions of the course sequence, including how faculty awareness of the course sequence has changed over time and faculty perceptions of the course sequence's role and value. The presentation will conclude with recommendations for EE departments seeking to adopt a similar course series for their undergraduates.

This article explores the impact of increased political disillusion on support for a Black regime within a city shaped by Black empowerment. Building on findings from previous research on the 2010 mayoral election in New Orleans, Louisiana (NOLA), we examine how the intersection of race and economic stratification influences political disillusion in a Black community. W.E.B. Du Bois’s double consciousness guides our examination of the Black political sphere relative to the election of Mayor Mitch Landrieu in 2010. We conduct a quantitative content analysis to illuminate the communicative elements resulting from Black empowerment and the political incorporation of Black residents of New Orleans in relation to political disillusion. All participants (n=22) in this sample are Black New Orleanians who were eligible to vote in the 2010 New Orleans mayoral election. Our findings convey a Black electorate both disillusioned by post-Katrina economic and political developments and yet pragmatic about the possibilities for greater success with a white mayor. Also, the findings suggest that government disillusion influences why Black voters are willing to elect a white mayor. Lastly, we assert that participants, while being seen as outsiders to their community, develop a second-sight. This second-sight is generated by intra-racial political considerations that take on cultural, as well as political, form.
