Research Trends of Traditional Chinese Medicine Therapies on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: A Bibliometric Analysis
Background: Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) therapies have shown great improvement in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients, yet no bibliometric analysis on TCM therapies for COPD exists. Summary: A comprehensive literature search was conducted on TCM therapies for COPD within the past decade, utilizing the Web of Science (WOS) Core Collection and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) databases. To analyze collaborative patterns among countries/regions, institutions, and authors, as well as identify influential references and emerging research trends, CiteSpace and VOSviewer software were employed. The dataset comprised 625 articles from WOS and 5,641 from CNKI, revealing a consistent growth in COPD-related TCM research over the past 10 years. China emerged as the leading contributor, with a predominant focus on TCM Universities. The American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine was the most cited journal, while Medicine published the highest number of articles. Li JS was the most prolific author, and Barnes PJ was the most frequently cited researcher. Key studies by Leung RWM [Eur Respir J. 2013;41(5):1051–7], Li SY [BMC Complement Altern Med. 2012;12:197], and Polkey MI [Chest. 2018;153(5):1116–24] garnered significant attention. Keyword analysis highlighted the prominence of Tai Chi, Chinese herbal medicine, acupoint sticking, acupuncture, lung function, quality of life, and inflammation as core research themes. Key Messages: Research on TCM therapies for COPD has gained growing attention over the past decade. Among the most commonly studied TCM interventions are Tai Chi, Chinese herbal medicine, acupoint sticking, and acupuncture. Lung function, quality of life, and inflammation have emerged as key areas of investigation and are likely to remain focal points for future research endeavors.

BackgroundMagnolia officinalis (M. officinalis) thrives in temperate, elevated regions, and its desiccated bark comprises medicinal monolignol. Both abiotic and biotic factors can influence the pharmacodynamic compounds of M. officinalis, which display a variety of capabilities. It was the goal of this study to find the main bioclimatic factors that impact the amount of helpful compounds in M. officinalis and to show how these bioclimatic factors influence the metabolic pathways of magnolol and honokiol through actions on transcripts and molecules. We assessed the amounts of medicinal compounds in M. officinalis from Baoxing (BX), Nanjiang (NJ), Xuanhan (XH), and Beichuan (BC) in Sichuan Province. After that, the bioclimatic factors were gathered and put together that affected the growth and used the transcriptome and metabolome to label the M. officinalis data. The associated metabolic pathways were analyzed based on significant alterations in bioclimatic factors.ResultsTemperature and precipitation influence the accumulation of bioactive compounds in M. officinalis, as well as the metabolism of monolignol, amino acids, flavonoids, α-linolenic acid, and arachidonic acids. Moreover, temperature was negatively related to the mounts of phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL), 4-coumarate-CoA ligase (4CL), and cinnamoyl-CoA reductase (CCR) in the monolignol biosynthetic pathway, as well as to the amounts of cinnamyl alcohol and 4-coumaryl alcohol that were made.ConclusionsModerate temperatures and appropriate precipitation enhanced the metabolism of monolignols in M. officinalis, ascribed to elevated levels of effective enzyme that correlated with the temperature and precipitation modulation of PAL, 4CL, and CCR activity. Furthermore, this study discovered that cinnamonyl alcohol and 4-coumaryl alcohol were critical precursors for the production of magnolol and honokiol, indicating potential strategies for improving M. officinalis' pharmacodynamic characteristics.

Effects of Different Varieties on Physicochemical Properties, Browning Characteristics, and Quality Attributes of Mume fructus (Wumei).
The dried Mume fructus (MF) is a special food and herbal medicine with a long history of processing and application. The browning index (BI) of Prunus mume (PM) is pivotal in determining the medicinal value and edible quality of MF. Exploring the BI of PM holds significant importance for both the selection of PM varieties and understanding the formation mechanism of high-quality MF. This study systematically analyzed the physicochemical properties, BI, and quality indicators of four PM varieties (Qingzhu Mei, Yesheng Mei, Nangao Mei, and Zhaoshui Mei) after processing into MF. The results showed significant differences in eight physicochemical indicators among the four PM varieties (p < 0.05). Notably, Qingzhu Mei exhibited the highest titratable acid content, Nangao Mei had the most prominent soluble solid and soluble sugar content, and Zhaoshui Mei showed outstanding performance in reducing sugar, soluble protein, and free amino acids. Regarding drying characteristics, Yesheng Mei and Nangao Mei required a shorter drying time. In terms of BI, Nangao Mei exhibited the greatest degree of browning and its color appearance was darker. When considering quality evaluation, Nangao Mei excelled in rehydration ability and extract content, while Zhaoshui Mei demonstrated outstanding levels of total phenols, total flavonoids, and total antioxidant capacity. Overall, the evaluation suggested that the Nangao Mei variety was more suitable for MF processing. These research results provide a valuable theoretical foundation for understanding the BI of PM varieties and serve as a reference for the selection of PM varieties as raw materials for processing MF.

Exploration of objective quality evaluation parameter of Alismatis Rhizoma decoction pieces
To establish a quality constant evaluation system of Alismatis Rhizoma decoction pieces,in order to provide reference for regulating the market circulation of this decoction pieces. A total of 18 batches of Alismatis Rhizoma decoction pieces were collected from different pharmaceutical factories, and the morphological parameters of each sample were tested. The content of alisol B 23-acetate in Alismatis Rhizoma decoction pieces was determined by HPLC in the 2015 edition of Chinese Pharmacopoeia, and the parameters such as quality constant and relative quality constant were calculated. The quality constant range of 18 batches of Alismatis Rhizoma decoction pieces was 0. 390-2. 076. If 18 batches of Alismatis Rhizoma decoction pieces were divided into 3 grades, taking 80% of the maximum quality constant as first grade,50% to 80% as second grade, and the rest as third grade, then the quality constant of firstgrade samples was ≥1. 66,the quality constant of second-grade samples was ≥1. 04 and <1. 66,and the quality constant of third-grade samples was <1. 04. The established quality constant evaluation method is objective and feasible, which can be used to classify the grade of Alismatis Rhizoma decoction pieces and provide a reference method to control the quality of this decoction pieces.

Gancao-Ganjiang-Tang (GGT) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) prescription and is a representative prescription for recuperating depleted Yang in Treatise on Febrile Diseases. The TCM theory believes that the efficacy of medicinal herbs is decided by the multicompounds which consist of different kinds of chemical constituents with bioactivities, but not by a monomeric constituent. From ancient times until today, GGT have 5 different kinds of compatibilities that can be verified. In this study, a HPLC-DAD method was established for the simultaneous determination of 8 compounds including 6-gingerol, 8-gingerol, 6-shogaol, liquiritin, liquiritigenin, isoliquiritin, isoliquiritigenin, and glycyrrhizic acid in the five GGT. The total contents of the 8 compounds in GGT varied from 555.56 to 956.33 μg/mL. The effects showed that the dosage and compatibility of medicinal herbs have influenced the content of chemical compounds of TCM prescription while the content of chemical compounds has acted on clinical efficacy. Quality evaluation and active essence screening of TCM (including single herb and prescription) should be based on the TCM theory and clinical effectiveness. The method was proven to be suitable for quality control of GGT.

Given a sequence of i.i.d. random variables {X,X n ;n≥1} taking values in a separable Banach space (B, ∥⋅∥) with topological dual B ∗, let \(X_{n}^{(r)}=X_{m}\) if ∥X m ∥ is the r-th maximum of {∥X k ∥;1≤k≤n} and \({}^{(r)}S_{n}=S_{n}-(X_{n}^{(1)}+\cdots +X_{n}^{(r)})\) be the trimmed sums when extreme terms are excluded, where \(S_{n}={\sum }_{k=1}^{n}X_{k}\). In this paper, it is stated that under some suitable conditions, $$\lim _{n\to \infty }\frac {1}{\sqrt {2\log \log n}}\max _{1\le k\le n}\frac {\|^{(r)}S_{k}\|}{\sqrt {k}}=\sigma (X)~~~\mathrm {a.s.},$$ where \(\sigma ^{2}(X)=\sup _{f\in B_{1}^{*}}\text {\textsf {E}} f^{2}(X)\) and \(B_{1}^{*}\) is the unit ball of B ∗.
