Schistosomiasis is a chronic disease that inflicts high morbidity and significant mortality with an estimated 90% of cases occurring in sub-Saharan Africa. Development of a vaccine against schistosomiasis is a major global health goal. The SchistoShield (Sm-p80 + GLA-SE) vaccine has consistently exhibited robust efficacy in non-human primate pre-clinical trials, has recently completed Phase 1 clinical trials in the US and Phase 1b trials are ongoing in Africa. To delineate a potential clinical/parasitological endpoint to measure the efficacy of schistosomiasis vaccine during human clinical trials, we have designed an in vitro schistosomula killing assay using sera collected from SchistoShield-vaccinated baboons and human volunteers from the Phase 1 clinical trial. Sm-p80-specific antibodies produced by immunized non-human primates and humans induced statistically significant larval schistosomula killing ex vivo. This reproducible functional assay has the potential to serve as one of the biomarkers for the effectiveness of the SchistoShield vaccine in human trials in Africa.

This study interrogates whether mental toughness (MT) and self-compassion (SC)-historically framed as oppositional constructs-can coexist synergistically among NCAA Division II, III, and NAIA collegiate athletes, with mindfulness as a hypothesized mediator. A cross-sectional survey of 396 participants (mean age: 19.8 yrs ± 1.9 SD; females: 51%), revealed a robust MT-SC correlation (r = 0.46), which attenuated to 0.31 when mindfulness was modeled, signaling its role as a partial mediator. Hierarchical regression controlling for sex showed that MT and sex together explained 22% of the SC variance (ΔR2 = 0.22, p < 0.001). Adding mindfulness increased the total explained variance to 39% (ΔR2 = 0.17, p < 0.001). Females scored slightly lower on SC (β = -0.14, SE = 0.05, p = 0.008). Sobel testing confirmed significant partial mediation (Z = 7.22, p < 0.001), with mindfulness explaining 33% of MT's total effect on SC. Mindfulness-based interventions that exploit athletes' intrinsic attentional resources can simultaneously enhance mental toughness and self-compassion. By reconciling performance-oriented rigor with resilient self-regard, such strategies hold promise for athletes operating at diverse competitive levels.

ABSTRACT In the 1630s, two central cultural arbiters sought to eliminate the figure of the fool from English culture. Both the city and court decried fools as figures of past barbarism. Yet, as this article seeks to demonstrate, rather than eliminating the fool from plays, Caroline playwrights rework the fool to go undetected within the social reform of the court and by the more radical anti-theatrical writers. By doing so, Caroline playwrights in effect allowed any intellect in early modern London to fool. The article examines three bodies of writing (court censorship records, antitheatrical writing and the Caroline plays themselves), to trace how this modified fool becomes rearticulated as a city wit, who still maintains the responsibilities of a fool.

The Solomon Islands host a diverse terrestrial vertebrate fauna which has played a formative role in the development of speciation theory. Yet, despite over a century of biological exploration in the region, there are many islands for which we have incomplete knowledge of the vertebrate fauna. In 2019, we spent 20 days on Tetepare Island in the Western Province, Solomon Islands. Tetepare has a long history of conservation action by local communities and it is now the largest uninhabited tropical island in the world. We recorded 57 species of birds, 13 mammals, 5 amphibians, and 21 reptiles. Of these, we documented six species for the first time on Tetepare by western scientists: one frog, three non-avian reptiles, and two mammals. These findings point to a continued need for basic biological inventory work to inform research, local conservation efforts, and to increase published knowledge of the biodiversity in the Solomon Islands.

This paper proposes a unique mode of charging for electric vehicles (EV’s). The uniqueness of our paper lies in the usage of the concept of solar road. In the existing system, there is no option for charging while the vehicle is in motion. One of the most concerning disadvantages of the present charging system is that it takes a considerable amount of time for vehicle to be charged at a charging station while in static mode. And when the fact that in the future, the usage of electric vehicle would find an exponential increase, is taken into consideration, the amount of time that is taken by a vehicle to be charged is quite a concern. In the case of conventional fuel engine vehicles, it takes only a few minutes to fuel the vehicle. Hence it is of great significance, to find a proper and long lasting solution for this problem. In this project we make use of a multisource charging system: one from the solar road and the other, from the utility grid. IR proximity sensors are used to detect the presence of the vehicle. Depending on the information received from the sensors, the transmitters in the particular area are switched on and the vehicle is charged. This process enables the vehicle to be charged while in motion. So, this paper acts as a suitable and long lasting solution for the above mentioned problem.

This observation was conducted in order to review fire ignition times and temperatures of four different mediums of countertops. The purpose was to review the mediums and fire ignition patterns to suggest a medium for homes as correlated to kitchen related fires. In 2016, there were approximately 1,342,000 fires reported in the United States (Fires in the U. S, n.d.). As a result of these fires, 3,390 were fatalities, 14,650 civilian injuries, and $10.6 billion in property damage (Fires in the U. S, n.d.). One structure fire was reported approximately every 90 seconds. Unattended cooking is the leading factor in accidental home fires. Due to limitations, the significance of medium suggested, is minimum. The findings support use of man-made quarts or organic marble for homes allowing additional time to extinguish the fire or remove all parties to safety, while also allowing additional time for first responders. Further research in the area of forensic fire investigations and countertops is warranted to formulize the findings.
