Design of a Digital Controller for a Dual-Phase Buck Converter: A Hybrid Approach Integrating Synchronous and Asynchronous Circuits
Power management ICs commonly use DC-DC converters because of their higher efficiency than LDO counterparts. DC-DC converters operate in different modes to keep efficiency constant over different loads, reducing quiescent and dynamic power losses. Switching between modes requires a well-behaved, configurable and adaptable digital control circuit to avoid hazardous states. This paper presents a digital control circuit for a dual-phase buck converter divided into synchronous and asynchronous parts to meet power management requirements. The digital control manages transitions between three different converter modes according to load current: low-power-mode (LPM), single-phase mode (SPM), and dual-phase mode (DPM). Asynchronous logic is responsible for switching control and protection mechanisms while synchronous logic implements time-dependant functionalities. The asynchronous part was designed with STG models and synthesized into a map of standard cells and primitive analog-to-asynchronous (A2A) elements with the Petrify and MPSat tools.
Read moreDiarrhea syndrome: current aspects of differential diagnosis and treatment at the stage of primary health care
Diarrhea is one of the most common syndromes encountered in the practice of a general practitioner, a general practitioner, a pediatrician at the stage of providing primary health care, as well as a gastroenterologist, an infectious disease specialist and a surgeon at the stage of providing specialized medical care. The first part of the review is devoted to the differential diagnosis of diarrhea, the main pathological conditions and nosological forms in which the development of diarrhea syndrome is possible in real clinical practice are considered. The second part of the review is devoted to a promising active method in gastroenterological practice-enterosorption. The main requirements for modern enterosorbents are met by the domestic enterosorbent based on silica (colloidal silicon dioxide) Polysorb® MP. Its properties are considered, data of comparative studies with other enterosorbents are given. The studies demonstrating the efficacy and safety of the use of enterosorbent Polysorb® MP in the complex therapy of infectious diarrhea in adult patients and in pediatric practice are presented. Diarrhea is one of the most common gastrointestinal symptoms in the new coronavirus infection COVID-19. A number of studies have noted the effectiveness of the use of colloidal silicon dioxide (Polysorb® MP) in the complex treatment of adults and children with COVID-19 and as part of the post-COVID syndrome. The use of Polysorb® MP helps to reduce the viral load in the intestine, reduce diarrhea and other clinical symptoms of gastrointestinal lesions in COVID-19.Availability of modern effective and safe enterosorbent Polysorb® MP in the arsenal of a doctor at the stage of providing primary health care will optimize drug therapy in patients with diarrhea syndrome and other comorbid somatic pathologies.
Read moreNew insight into the additives in preparation and reduction of shield slurry
In the preparation of the slurry in the slurry shield (SSS) and subsequent reduction of the waste slurry produced by the slurry shield (WSSS), the additives in SSS improve the quality of filtration cake on the excavation surface, but they may also remain in WSSS, which have a negative impact on the reduction efficiency of WSSS. Therefore, it is valuable to establish the relationship between SSS and WSSS with additives as a link. Given this, this paper prepared WSSS with different dosages of additives and studied the influence of residual additives on the reduction. The residual additives made the reduction efficiency of WSSS worse, and the specific resistance to filtration increased by one to two orders of magnitude. The residual additives change the content of bound water or reduce the available sites of the soil particles that can be adsorbed by flocculants, leading to worse reduction results. To reduce the difficulty of reduction, combining polymer and bentonite as additives are recommended to prepare SSS. Polyaluminium chloride (PAC) acts by reducing bound water content through the interaction with residual bentonite, simultaneously augmenting PAM flocculation, which is recommended for reducing WSSS. This paper provides a reference for selecting materials used to prepare SSS and the subsequent reduction of WSSS.
Read moreBehavioural Profiling of Cycling and Walking in Nine European Cities
To ensure cities’ livability, a significant modal shift from car use towards more sustainable modes of transportation, such as walking and cycling, is required. To establish such a modal shift, a better understanding is needed of the psychological components that affect people’s likelihood of shifting to active transport modes. To this end, a behavioural survey was conducted among more than 2000 respondents across nine European cities in four countries. Using factor and cluster analysis, two groups of respondents are identified that have common determinants of their variations in intentions to shift to active transport modes, i.e., a “pro-cycling” cluster (55.6% of the respondents) and a “non-pro-cycling” cluster (44.4%). The findings highlight the intrinsically different nature of walking and cycling as transport modes, underlining the importance of distinguishing walking and cycling policies. The main obstacle to cycle more frequently is perceived traffic safety. Therefore, the main priority should be the improvement of traffic safety. The most important obstacle hindering more frequent walking is time. Hence, reducing travel time, for instance, by creating shortcuts for pedestrians and denser and more diversified urban areas will be an important strategy. Future research could extend this research to cities in other countries and regions. By repeating the survey periodically, changes in people’s motivations and perceived barriers can be analysed over time.
