Polyacrylate Sizing on Cotton Yarns: A Review of Solutions for Weaving Challenges in Low-Humidity Conditions

Alzheimer disease is one of the causes of dementia that could make the patient lose their memories until they unable to do normal activities. It is caused by accumulation of protein in the brain called Amyloid-β42 (Aβ42), that often used as biomarker for alzheimer by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). To increase the sensitivity and accuracy, capture antibodies are conjugated with labels such as Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) and Biotin. However, the two conjugates also differ in sensitivity and specificity, therefore this research is to find which is more optimum and stable for ELISA usage. The molecular mass of the conjugated antibodies was characterized with SDS-PAGE, result shows the pre-conjugated antibody has 150 kDa bands, conjugated antibody with labels is heavier than the pre-conjugated due to the addition of each label. Conjugated antibody tested with tetramethylbenzidine (TMB), then analyzed by ELISA reader. The measurement precision decided with %CV value with results shows dillution from 10-1 to 10-4 has %CV less than 10%, while Biotin is from 10-1 to 10-5. Optimization done by determining fixed antigen with the conjugated antibody, the optimal concentration for HRP is 10-3 while biotin is at 10-4. Stability of the conjugated antibody was also determined, HRP measurement started to unstable around second month and third month, while biotin start to unstable around fourth month, this shows the biotin is more stable than the HRP.
Read moreCausal role for pulvinar burst firing in thalamo-cortical attention control
The primate pulvinar has been implicated in coordinating cortical networks during attention, but its causal role remains elusive. Like other thalamic nuclei, pulvinar neurons switch between tonic and burst firing, but whether bursts influence behavior and cognitive processes is unknown. Here, we show that pulvinar bursts are not only modulated by attention but also predict behavioral performance. In macaques performing a covert attention task, bursts were more frequent for non-cued targets and uniquely reconfigured population codes in parietal cortex. Crucially, electrical microstimulation of pulvinar triggered bursts that enhanced target detection and synchronized cortical spiking, with behavioral benefits scaling with the strength of burst recruitment. These results establish pulvinar bursts as a causal driver of attention, revealing a thalamo-cortical mechanism by which thalamus exerts moment-to-moment control over cortical processing and behavior.

Read morePredatory attack on a bearded capuchin monkey by a Boa constrictor
Predation influences foraging strategies, as primates must avoid being preyed on while feeding. Some populations of capuchin monkeys are the only neotropical primates that customarily use the ground for nut-cracking. This time-consuming and focus-demanding foraging activity may increase susceptibility to predation events. However, there is currently no data on predation in tool-using Sapajus populations. We report a snake’s (Boa constrictor) predatory attack on a bearded capuchin monkey (S. libidinosus) in a tool-using population, as well as the other monkeys’ alarm calling and threat displays. We confirm these monkeys’ predation vulnerability and discuss how they balance foraging requirements with predation risk.
Read moreThe genomic landscape of spider monkeys and northern muriquis from a conservation perspective
Abstract Background Most populations of spider monkeys ( Ateles ) and muriquis ( Brachyteles ), two Neotropical primate genera, are under severe anthropogenic threats. Yet, taxon-wide population-level studies leveraging their degree of endangerment linked to their genetic diversity patterns and demographic history are lacking. To properly address this, there is a need to expand from morphological and genetic marker-based studies. Results We generated high-coverage genome sequencing for 58 individuals sampled across 8 Atelidae species, in the first population-wide study of all extant spider monkey species, in the wild and captivity, alongside northern muriquis ( Brachyteles hypoxanthus ). Additionally, we present a high-contiguity reference genome for Ateles hybridus . Here, we observe the overall levels of genetic diversity and genetic load of the analyzed populations do not align to their IUCN endangerment category. Moreover, we show that in the wild, genetic load is overall higher compared to the captive populations analyzed. Then, we depict two main trans and cis-Andean sister clades in Ateles , and further structure and dynamics outlined by the Madeira River in the latter clade. Lastly, we find that genes in highly divergent regions between Ateles and B. hypoxanthus are involved in central nervous system development and photorreception. Conclusions Our study shows i) the lack of concordance between the genetic diversity levels and extinction risk of these populations, suggestive of recent and strong external drivers; ii) increased genetic load in the wild in contrast to effective captive management, indicating mostly past demographic events; iii) structure and dynamics in spider monkeys that agrees with common biogeographical patterns and iv) genetic divergence between Ateles and Brachyteles potentially linked to distinct environmental light levels.
