Onitis belial Fabricius, 1798: state of historical and current knowledge on the distribution of this remarkable coprophagous beetle of the French fauna (Coleoptera, Scarabaeidae, Scarabaeinae). Onitis belial Fabricius, 1798, is a coprophagous beetle endemic to the western Mediterranean basin. To the best of entomological memory, the species has always been rare and locally distributed in the southern France; however, this scarab beetle has disappeared from most of the localities where it was known at the beginning of the 20th century. The aim of this study is to provide an overview of the available knowledge on the historical and current distribution of O. belial in France, based on a review of the literature and field surveys conducted between 2019 and 2024. We discuss the vulnerability of this species, which today persists only in two highly localised and fragmented populations, in the Rhône delta and in the Albères massif at the Spanish border. We highlight the need for further research in order to provide a better assessment of the conservation status of this remarkable beetle of the French entomofauna.

Elinora maculipes (Audinet-Serville): new localities, confirmation of its host plant, description of its larva and considerations on its populations (Hymenoptera, Tenthredinidae). New localities for France were discovered in Tarn (81) and Tarn-et-Garonne (82) in 2023 and 2024. Numerous field observations and laboratory rearing have added to our knowledge of its life history, in particular confirmation of Iberis amara L. as a host plant and description of its larva. Some considerations on population numbers, on risk factors for the species and on favourable management methods for natural areas are included. Probable host plants are mentioned for Elinora sabariensis (Mocsáry, 1880) and Elinora arida Lacourt, 1995.

Fibla hesperica Navás, 1915, a species previously thought to be endemic to Spain and Portugal, is reported for the first time in France, in the Hérault department, notably in the Montpellier urban area. The species’ identification criteria are illustrated. The origin of this population is discussed. The presence of unidentified Fibla specimens in the Bouches-du-Rhône, Var, and Vaucluse departments is confirmed by recent photographs, which may correspond either to F. hesperica or to F. maclachlani (Albarda, 1891), a species known from Corsica and Italy.

Abstract The Wide Angle Search for Planets (WASP) survey provided some of the first transiting hot Jupiter candidates. With the addition of the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), many WASP planet candidates have now been revisited and given updated transit parameters. Here, we present nine transiting planets orbiting FGK stars that were identified as candidates by the WASP survey and found to have planetary masses via radial velocity measurements. Subsequent space-based photometry taken by TESS as well as ground-based photometric and spectroscopic measurements have been used to jointly analyze the planetary properties of WASP-102 b, WASP-116 b, WASP-149 b WASP-154 b, WASP-155 b, WASP-188 b, WASP-194 b/HAT-P-71 b, WASP-195 b, and WASP-197 b. These planets have radii between 0.9 R Jup and 1.4 R Jup, masses between 0.1 M Jup and 1.5 M Jup, and periods between 1.3 and 6.6 days.

Abstract The Roman mill complex of Barbegal in France is the largest preindustrial structure in Europe. Carbonate incrustations that formed from water flowing through basins, over flumes and waterwheels of the mill complex are partly preserved. The largest carbonate fragments are derived from three wooden flumes that once served the wheels of three mills in a train of eight. The deposits formed from the same water as it moved down from mill to mill. The shape, microstratigraphy and stable isotope patterns of the deposits of each flume reveal a unique history of use for each mill during the last 8 years of operation until their final abandonment. The sidewall carbonate deposits of the flumes vary in shape due to differences in the slope of the flumes during operation, associated with different‐size millwheels in different basins. At least one of the flumes must have been mobile and was uplifted to fit a millwheel of a different size. During 8 years, two millwheels were exchanged and one flume was taken out of action. Carbonate deposits from two flumes were subsequently reused for some unknown industrial purpose in a water basin, and one was later embedded as spolia in a building during late antiquity.

Gaia mission is providing the most accurate astrometric and photometric star catalogue (June 2022 DR3), in addition it is providing, as various projects on earth or in space, numerous alerts concerning different celestial objects and transient events. To make comparison between the observations on earth, it is recommended that they be well standardized, using optical filters adapted to Gaia three spectral bands. In this work, we propose to reproduce these three spectral bands using multilayer filter containing non periodic structures using optimization algorithms, such as Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm, “needle” algorithm and genetic algorithm. Optimizing multilayers for optical applications is still a major issue today, with the aim of achieving the best possible specifications with the fewest possible layers. Three multi-layer filters are proposed made up respectively of 20, 40 and 60 layers deposited on BK7 substrate, to match the specifications provided by the RAPAS network. We also investigated the use of other substrates and thin metal layers, which helped us to reduce the number of layers in the optimization process.

Amateur astronomy of the Solar System is living a golden age with major contributions to modern planetary science. These contributions cover a wide spectrum of topics that range from the discovery of impacts in Jupiter [1-2], to the observation of stellar occultations by minor bodies [3-4], the characterization of unexpected high-atmospheric events in Mars [5], or the characterization of giant storms on Jupiter [6] and Saturn [7-8]. Besides these examples of high-profile publications, there is an increasing number of amateur contributions to dozens of studies of planetary atmospheres and countless contributions to the study of minor bodies. While we focus here in the role of amateur astronomy observations of planetary atmospheres, we also recognize the varied and healthy professional and amateur collaborations in other areas of solar system astronomy. The reasons behind this golden age lie in the two sides of the collaboration: On the side of amateur astronomers, many of them use very efficient detectors and advanced software tools, and they are highly connected at an international level. Thus, they provide high-quality observations on a regular basis to professional astronomers, or have strong analysis teams like the JUPOS team as an example (http://jupos.privat.t-online.de/index.htm). These frequent amateur observations provide essential monitoring of the temporal evolution of planetary atmospheres. On the other side, professional astronomers are aware of the potential of these observations and actively seek the collaboration of amateur astronomers and citizen scientists. A key case in this regard is NASA’s Juno mission to the giant planet Jupiter, and its large-scale collaboration around the JunoCam instrument on the mission Juno website: https://www.missionjuno.swri.edu/. The mission has been recently extended until 2025 and details of the contribution of amateur observers to this new mission scenario are presented by Orton et al. in session ODAA5 in this meeting. Other examples of professionals seeking a global collaboration with amateurs are the various professional and amateur astronomy services and workshops organized by research projects like the Europlanet 2020 Research Infrastructure (2016-2019) and Europlanet 2024 Research Infrastructure (2020-2024).We anticipate that the trend of amateur astronomy playing an important role in providing additional data sets to space missions will continue to grow and we advocate for the early establishment of such collaborations.  We review some of the elements that have made the collaboration of amateur astronomers with the Juno mission so fruitful for both parties and how this collaboration has grown beyond Jupiter into enhanced collaborations in other fields through networking amateur astronomers and providing a successful example to other fields. We also discuss future ground-based high-resolution amateur observations of Solar System planets in support of future missions. These include the James Webb Space Telescope observations of planets (launch in October 2021), ESA’s Jupiter Icy moons Explorer (JUICE, launching in 2022) and NASA’s Europa Clipper missions to the Jupiter system in the early 2030s, the in situ exploration of Saturn’s moon Titan by the Dragonfly mission (NASA) in 2034, the Envision mission to Venus (if selected by ESA), and possible future missions to the Icy Giants Uranus and Neptune. Each of these ambitious missions will benefit from the strong partnership between amateur and professional planetary scientists. The first in this line is the JWST observations of Giant planets to be conducted in 2022 (see Fletcher et al. in session OPS3 in this conference). Finally, we also show some professional and amateur networking elements developed under the umbrella of the Europlanet projects, including the recently launched Europlanet Telescope Network (https://bit.ly/2Br5LDt), and we present possible scenarios for future pro-am collaborations beyond the end of the Europlanet 2024 project. AcknowledgementsPart of this research has been supported by Europlanet 2024 RI. During the 2020 Mars opposition, we observe from Earth the occurrence of a non-typical large-scale high-altitude clouds system, extending over thousands of km from the equator to 50°S. Over 3 hours, they emerge from the night side at an altitude of 90 (-15/+30) km and progressively dissipate in the dayside. They occur at a solar longitude of 316°, west of the magnetic anomaly and concomitantly to a regional dust storm. Despite their high altitude, they are composed of relatively large particles, suggesting a probable CO2 ice composition, although H2O cannot be totally excluded. Such ice clouds were not reported previously. We discuss the formation of this new type of clouds and suggest a possible nucleation from cosmic particle precipitation.
