Die Aussteifung und Stabilisierung von Bauteilen und Tragwerken wird in Kapitel 10 behandelt. Es wird gezeigt, welche Konstruktionen eine aussteifende Wirkung haben, wie sie die Stabilitätsgefahr verringern und welche Beanspruchungen in ihnen auftreten. Kapitel 10 steht in einem engen Zusammenhang mit den anderen Kapiteln des Buches, weil sich die Aussteifungen sowohl auf die Stabilität als auch auf die Theorie II. Ordnung auswirken. In Abschnitt 10.6 wird das „Ausführungsbeispiel Sporthalle“ unter Berücksichtigung eines Schubfeldes behandelt. Das „Ausführungsbeispiel Lagerhalle“ in Abschnitt 10.7 ist besonders umfangreich. Dort werden u. a. die Tragfähigkeitsnachweise für die Zweigelenkrahmen unter Berücksichtigung der Dach- und Wandverbände geführt.

Häufig muss beurteilt werden, ob die Rechenergebnisse eines EDV-Programmes richtig sind oder nicht, bzw. ob eine errechnete Eigenform plausibel ist oder nicht. Daher werden einige Erläuterungen gegeben und zwei Verfahren, das Matrizenzerlegungsverfahren und die inverse Vektoriteration, eingehend behandelt.

In diesem Kapitel werden Berechnungsbeispiele zur Tragfähigkeit von Stabtragwerken behandelt, da dies die häufigste Aufgabenstellung bei baupraktischen Berechnungen für Stahlkonstruktionen ist. Die möglichen Nachweise nach DIN EN 1993-1-1 sind zusammengestellt. Es wird erläutert, wie die Nachweise üblicherweise geführt werden. Es werden die Schnittgrößen und Verformungen sowie bei den Stabilitätsfällen Verzweigungslasten und Knickbiegelinien mithilfe der FEM berechnet.

Kapitel 8 ist ein zentrales Grundlagenkapitel des Buches, das das Biegeknicken von Stäben und Stabwerken und darüber hinaus auch den Einfluss von Zugnormalkräften abdeckt. Es enthält alle erforderlichen Herleitungen, die im Übrigen auch für Kapitel 4 benötigt werden, und Lösungsverfahren für das Biegeknicken. Die Methoden und Verfahren sind für das Verständnis der Zusammenhänge und des Tragverhaltens von besonderer Bedeutung.

The use of equilibrium formulations in urban modelling is increasingly challenged by models that explicitly address the dynamics of urban change. Equilibrium models assume that urban land use and transport converge to equilibrium between supply and demand and focus on comparative static analysis of these equilibria. Dynamic models consider the different speeds of processes of urban change and concentrate on their outcomes over time and the path dependence this implies. It is becoming increasingly apparent that without understanding the inherent inertia of different subsystems of cities it is impossible to assess their likely responses to land-use or transport policies. With new challenges from energy scarcity and climate change, the time horizon of urban planning is extending beyond the present generation; this makes a long-term perspective of urban models even more important. In this paper our aim is to revive the debate on whether modelling intended to inform decision making can reasonably represent cities as if they were in or near equilibrium or whether it needs to recognise explicitly that they are continuously changing and far from equilibrium. We start with a classification of urban change processes by speed of adjustment and show how equilibrium models fail to deal with them. We discuss options of modelling dynamics and argue for recursive dynamics or quasi-dynamics as a rational trade-off between theory and operationality in spatially disaggregate urban models. We illustrate this by comparing how three existing recursive or quasi-dynamic urban models address temporal dynamics and close by suggesting research needs.

Abstract Am Flughafen Düsseldorf International ist ein neuer Hangar, die Halle 7, gebaut worden. Es handelt sich hierbei um das größte Bauprojekt der Flughafengesellschaft seit der Terminalerweiterung in den Jahren von 1998 bis 2004. Mit Abmessungen von ca. 210 m x 90 m ist die Flugzeughalle die größte am Düsseldorf Airport beziehungsweise in Nordrhein‐Westfalen. Sie bietet zeitgleich Platz für drei Großraumflugzeuge. Im Wesentlichen ist das Haupttragwerk als reine Stahlkonstruktion und bei den Stützen auch in Verbundbauweise ausgeführt worden. Neben der Flugzeughalle sind ein zweigeschossiger Anbau mit Lager‐, Aufenthalts‐ und Sozialräumen sowie ein viergeschossiger Bürotrakt mit einem Technikbereich im Keller in Massivbauweise entstanden. Im Folgenden wird die Konstruktion des Hangars vorgestellt, die Anbauten in Massivbauweise sind nicht Bestandteil dieses Beitrages.Hangar for three wide‐bodied aircrafts.At Düsseldorf International Airport a new Hangar referred to as Hall 7 has been built. It is the biggest project of the Airport Corporation since the extension of the terminal in the years 1998‐2004. With dimensions of about 210 m width and 90 m depth, the aero plane hangar is the largest one at Düsseldorf Airport and North Rhine‐Westphalia. The building has a maintenance capacity of three wide‐bodied long‐haul aircrafts. The structure is mainly designed as steel construction, although some of the columns are designed as composite members as well. Adjacently behind the hangar a two storey outbuilding with stocking and social rooms and a four storey office building with technical equipment in the basement were built as massive concrete construction. In the following the hangar will be presented, the additional outbuildings are not included in this essay.

Air-cooled condensers were first introduced into the U.S. power industry in the early 1970’s, but only began to increase in popularity during the last decade. The rising importance of this new and different technology for the condensing of steam has led to the need for a better understanding of the associated design, application, performance monitoring and cleaning requirements. This paper identifies the basic configuration of aircooled condensers in the power industry and some of the problems they encounter, especially fouling problems. Monitoring the performance of air-cooled condensers is an important task and the major criteria involved are identified. To rectify degradations in performance associated with external fouling, a number of cleaning procedures are described. Included among these are details of a new automated cleaning technology that has been successfully applied, and some of the performance improvements that have resulted from the use of this technique are presented.
