This chapter explores the concept of Internet of Things (IoT), its importance, and the confluence of factors that have led to the adoption wave in recent years. A pretty, simple light bulb that is connected through short-range radio signals and can follow simple instructions remotely can very well be considered part of an IoT network. In some sense, the IoT is no exception to this general trend. Automating the process of continuously monitoring the reading of the device is a mundane task. More sophisticated equipment may need diverse instrumentation and rich and multivariate analytics on data for a reliable detection. The major benefit of IoT systems is what we like to call the transportability of learning. A lot needs to happen technologically before a truly connected system becomes operational. The chapter establishes the meaning of IoT and why it is increasingly important.

Genomic science is increasingly central to the provision of health care. Producing and applying robust genomics knowledge is a complex endeavour in which no single individual, profession, discipline or community holds all the answers. Engagement and involvement of diverse stakeholders can support alignment of societal and scientific interests, understandings and perspectives and promises better science and fairer outcomes. In this context we argue for F.A.I.R.E.R. data and data use that is Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reproducible, Equitable and Responsible. Yet there is a paucity of international guidance on how to engage publics, patients and participants in genomics. To support meaningful and effective engagement and involvement we developed an Engagement Framework for involving and engaging participants, patients and publics in genomics research and health implementation. The Engagement Framework is intended to support all those working in genomics research, medicine, and healthcare to deliberatively consider approaches to participant, patient and public engagement and involvement in their work. Through a series of questions, the Engagement Framework prompts new ways of thinking about the aims and purposes of engagement, and support reflection on the strengths, limitations, likely outcomes and impacts of choosing different approaches to engagement. To guide genomics activities, we describe four themes and associated questions for deliberative reflection: (i) fairness; (ii) context; (iii) heterogeneity, and (iv) recognising tensions and conflict. The four key components in the Engagement provide a framework to assist those involved in genomics to reflect on decisions they make for their initiatives, including the strategies selected, the participant, patient and public stakeholders engaged, and the anticipated goals. The Engagement Framework is one step in an actively evolving process of building genomics research and implementation cultures which foster responsible leadership and are attentive to objectives which increase equality, diversity and inclusion in participation and outcomes.

In writings on relativity time, the various relations are only changed by the transverse shift. This paper proves that the axial Doppler shift does that as well and gives some impacts of that on common differential relations in physics. When a modulated signal lasting a time = T is subjected to an optical Doppler shift K (either axial or transverse or both), where K is shifted frequency/original frequency, the Doppler shifted signal will last T/K. This because all shifted harmonics of its Fourier series (with a fundamental period of T) will last 1/K times the period of the original harmonic. The reader can graph any Fourier series and then graph its shifted series. The reader will see the shifted period is T/K. The Fourier series of the original repeats when time is greater than T and the shifted one when time is greater than T/K, which means the original series only represents the signal from time = 0 to T and the shifted series represents the shifted signal from time = 0 to T/K. Hence, the shifted one has all of the information in T/K as the original has in T. Therefore everything in the series including information is T/K long in the shifted series. Therefore, both the axial and the transverse Doppler shift change time periods in a vacuum, independent of material involved. That has not been obvious for over 100 years the axial shift changes time from the definition of frequency = 1/time.

It has now been more than a quarter of a century since the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) began its microwave and millimeter-wave monolithic integrated circuits (MIMIC) program. During that time, the Cold War ended and, as a result, there was a dramatic consolidation of defense companies. Many engineers, scientists, and others who participated in the program have changed companies, changed jobs, retired and, in some cases, died. The legacy of the program, however, remains: the establishment of the capabilities, infrastructure, and knowledge necessary to design and produce GaAs MMICs for nearly any application with high yield, at low cost, and possessing the specific performance and reliability characteristics required for their use in a huge number of system applications, both military and commercial [1][3]. This, in turn, has resulted in the United States' becoming the world leader in GaAs MMIC technology, a position that it still holds. The program played a major role in disproving the once popular statement that “GaAs is the material of the future and always will be.” This article describes the beginnings of the program and the strategy it used to achieve its goals. It also summarizes what has been accomplished and offers some advice based on the experience gained over the course of the program.
