This project explores the interdisciplinary integration of robotics and animatronics in collaboration with UNCSA’s Animatronics MFA program. Two robotic quadrupeds, specifically the Unitree Go1 and PuppyPi, were modified to resemble lifelike canine characters for theatrical performance. Digital dog models were sourced from ZBrush, resized, and reshaped to fit the robots’ dimensions before being transferred into CAD using Fusion 360 for shell fabrication. To enhance realism, mold-making techniques with silicone, flocking, and pattern-making were employed to create detailed, lifelike aesthetics. The completed robotic dogs were successfully integrated into the production, though realworld testing revealed trade-offs between realism and performance, emphasizing the need for future improvements in material weight, mobility, and scene choreography.
