Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the degree of services and facilities at tourist sites for individuals with disabilities (accessible tourism) in Najran region, as well as the disparities based on gender, type of disability, and nature of the visit. Methods: Following the survey approach, the descriptive method was employed to fulfill the study's goal. The researchers' study technique (an electronic questionnaire) was employed. After validating its validity and dependability in the Saudi context, it was reduced to (14) elements. It was applied to a sample of (111) male and female volunteers with impairments (sight, hearing, and motor). A stratified random sample was drawn from Najran area of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Results: The results revealed that the level of services and facilities in tourist sites for individuals with disabilities (accessible tourism) was poor in Najran region. According to the answers of the study sample members, there are statistically significant differences in the level of services and facilities in tourist sites for people with disabilities (accessible tourism) in Najran region due to the type of disability variable in favor of visual disability and hearing disability. Furthermore, differences in the nature of the visit arose in favor of the nature of the visit with the center, although no statistically significant differences showed on the variable of gender. The study recommended that the authorities responsible for the tourism sector and tourism industry in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia adopt an organized and thoughtful strategic plan. The plan must work to make the services and facilities of accessible tourism of high quality by following effective methods to stimulate the accessible tourism movement in a way that meets the Kingdom’s ambitions and vision 2030.
Read moreComparison of Zinc Oxide Nanoparticle Integration into Non-Woven Fabrics Using Different Functionalisation Methods for Prospective Application as Active Facemasks
The development of advanced facemasks stands out as a paramount priority in enhancing healthcare preparedness. In this work, different polypropylene non-woven fabrics (NWF) were characterised regarding their structural, physicochemical and comfort-related properties. The selected NWF for the intermediate layer was functionalised with zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) 0.3 and 1.2wt% using three different methods: electrospinning, dip-pad-dry and exhaustion. After the confirmation of ZnO NP content and distribution within the textile fibres by morphological and chemical analysis, the samples were evaluated regarding their antimicrobial properties. The functionalised fabrics obtained via dip-pad-dry unveiled the most promising data, with 0.017 ± 0.013wt% ZnO NPs being mostly located at the fibre’s surface and capable of total eradication of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli colonies within the tested 24 h (ISO 22196 standard), as well as significantly contributing (**** p < 0.0001) to the growth inhibition of the bacteriophage MS2, a surrogate of the SARS-CoV-2 virus (ISO 18184 standard). A three-layered structure was assembled and thermoformed to obtain facemasks combining the previously chosen NWF, and its resulting antimicrobial capacity, filtration efficiency and breathability (NP EN ISO 149) were assessed. The developed three-layered and multiscaled fibrous structures with antimicrobial capacities hold immense potential as active individual protection facemasks.
Read moreA data-driven intelligent decision support system that combines predictive and prescriptive analytics for the design of new textile fabrics
In this paper, we propose an Intelligent Decision Support System (IDSS) for the design of new textile fabrics. The IDSS uses predictive analytics to estimate fabric properties (e.g., elasticity) and composition values (% cotton) and then prescriptive techniques to optimize the fabric design inputs that feed the predictive models (e.g., types of yarns used). Using thousands of data records from a Portuguese textile company, we compared two distinct Machine Learning (ML) predictive approaches: Single-Target Regression (STR), via an Automated ML (AutoML) tool, and Multi-target Regression, via a deep learning Artificial Neural Network. For the prescriptive analytics, we compared two Evolutionary Multi-objective Optimization (EMO) methods (NSGA-II and R-NSGA-II) when optimizing 100 new fabrics, aiming to simultaneously minimize the physical property predictive error and the distance of the optimized values when compared with the learned input space. The two EMO methods were applied to design of 100 new fabrics. Overall, the STR approach provided the best results for both prediction tasks, with Normalized Mean Absolute Error values that range from 4% (weft elasticity) to 11% (pilling) in terms of the fabric properties and a textile composition classification accuracy of 87% when adopting a small tolerance of 0.01 for predicting the percentages of six types of fibers (e.g., cotton). As for the prescriptive results, they favored the R-NSGA-II EMO method, which tends to select Pareto curves that are associated with an average 11% predictive error and 16% distance.
Read moreInfluence of grapevine age on general physicochemical and phenolic parameters of Rabigato (<i>Vitis vinifera</i>L.) white variety: Results from three vintages
The preservation of the old vine heritage, combined with the fact that old vines could present greater resistance to biotic and abiotic factors, has led to an increase in research studies about the contribution of vine age on grape and wine quality. Thus, the main goal of this work was to evaluate the potential influence of grapevine age on several general physicochemical and phenolic parameters during grape maturation of a Rabigato white grape variety. Therefore, grapes from two adjacent vineyards, with an age difference of 30 years (one with 20 years and the other with 50 years, at the beginning of this study) were studied. At technological maturation, the results obtained for the three consecutive vintages studied (2019 to 2021), and for the general physicochemical parameters analysed, do not seem to indicate a clear differentiation between the grape musts obtained from the younger and the older vineyards. However, for grape phenolics, the results suggest that vine age could be a potential factor on phenolic content, nevertheless not totally confirmed by the results at technological maturation during the three consecutive vintages considered. With this work we will contribute to expand the knowledge about the potential impact of the vine age on grape composition.
Read moreManagement of allergic rhinitis symptoms in the pharmacy Pocket guide 2022.
BackgroundAllergic rhinitis (AR) management requires a coordinated effort from healthcare providers and patients. Pharmacists are key members of these integrated care pathways resolving medication‐related problems, optimizing regimens, improving adherence and recommending therapies while establishing liaisons between patients and physicians.MethodsAllergic Rhinitis and its Impact on Asthma (ARIA) first published a reference document on the pharmacist's role in allergic rhinitis management in 2004. Several guidelines were developed over the past 20 years improving the care of allergic rhinitis patients through an evidence‐based, integrated care approach.ResultsThis ARIA/EAACI/FIP Position Paper is based on the latest ARIA in the Pharmacy guidelines and provides: (a) a structured approach to pharmacists identifying people with AR and/or allergic conjunctivitis as well as those at risk of poor disease control; (b) an evidence‐based clinical decision support tool for optimising the management of allergic rhinitis in the community pharmacy; and (c) a framework of referral to the physician.ConclusionThis document is not intended to be a mandatory standard of care but is provided as a basis for pharmacists and their staff to develop relevant local standards of care for their patients, within their local practice environment. Pharmacy care varies between countries, and the guide should be adapted to the local situation.
