Activity Theory Based Approach for Requirements Analysis of Android Applications

Over the past few years, we can see the enormous increase of the use of smart phones that are based on android platform. Due to that reason, the mobile application development based on android has boosted the developers' interest. Having countless android application on the market is not an assurance of having users' satisfaction. Some of them do not reach users' expectations due to lack of research on dealing with android-based application requirements. With the fast growing of smart phones and their applications, the needs for better application to be produced are needed. Currently there is no specific research on analyzing the requirements for android applications. This paper proposes a new strategy that uses an activity theory to analyze the requirements of android application. It is then discusses a case study of a Muslim android application and presents the results of its requirements analysis using activity theory. The result of this study shows activity theory as an alternative requirement analysis approach to mobile application development that is based on android operating system.

In this essay I elaborate on three ideas that emerged from reading the work of Sylvie Barma. These points are in response to curriculum reform and the use of activity theory: (a) curriculum reform as a public policy; (b) a reflection about the process followed by teacher implementation of that reform in a biology classroom; and (c) the sense of experience as an objective anchored in activity theory. This commentary deals with several entanglements of science teaching and learning where I am also able to address some of my own queries in the use of activity theory in research.

Activity Theory as Analytical Tool: A Case Study of Developing Student Teachers’ Creativity in Design

Healthcare professionals must be able to work in multidisciplinary teams (MDTs). The purpose of this editorial is to explain how healthcare professionals (can) contribute to the effectiveness of MDT, through the use of activity theory (collective work activity shared by others who are motivated by a purpose mediated by tools in order to achieve a specific goal) and the associated idea of knotworking (method of tying, untying, and retying together seemingly separate threads of activity). The leading thesis here is that MDTs benefit from health professionals with well-established leadership skills, and also strong collaborative skills that enable them to transition fluidly between leadership roles as needed to advance patient care. Within activity theory, knotworking is the process of tying and untying various threads of activity and knowledge from across the MDT in order to accomplish specific objectives over time. Knotworking exemplifies the dynamic nature of MDT collaboration, which requires professionals to be productive in their environment. The viewpoints offered in this editorial contribute to a new perspective on MDTs, one that acknowledges distributed leadership and the importance of co-producing a successful partnership in a clinical setting.

In software testing process, test data generation represents an important step for high quality software, even for mobile devices. As proposed in previous works, a potential source for random data generation is represented by the UI layout files that are used for almost all mobile platforms (Android, iOS, Windows Phone/Mobile). This paper continues the previous work and presents a test data generation system based on Android layout files. The test data generator uses DSL files as input and generates test data that conform to several testing principles. The generated test data could be stored in XML files or any format required by the testing frameworks.

In the context of modern Android application development, security issues and secure programming are considered unignorable aspects to ensure the safety of Android applications while still guarantee the development speed. The lack of attention to security factors in the software development process or the delay of traditional security assurance methods are the main causes of unsafe Android software. Those unsafe Android applications contain many vulnerabilities and a high risk of leaking user information, especially since Android applications are rapidly developed and published. Developers must adhere to a secure development process to counter Android application risks to avoid data leakage or access control flaws. Security has to be integrated throughout the application development process to secure the software development life cycle. This paper presents two main research contributions: summarizing common security issues in Android applications and developing a plug-in for Android Studio to support secure programming, 9Fix. The low-time-cost 9Fix plug-in can inspect your vulnerable code and instantly suggest an alternative secure code for developers in programming time that helps to improve the security and instruct the developers on how to write a secure code. Moreover, the developers can add their own security rules to 9Fix so 9Fix can adapt smoothly in a specific situation. We also demonstrate the effectiveness and the convenience based on the student feedback by experimenting with the 9Fix plugin.

We propose a metric for meeting quality in software development. Meeting is important in order to share knowledge and experience among developers and stakeholders. Most frequent and important meetings are in software requirement analysis phase. System engineers and stakeholders discuss software requirements. However, meeting quality is various. Sometimes, stakeholders feel vague decision and suspicious discussion. It is difficult to measure quantitatively the vagueness and suspicion because the vagueness and suspicion are based on human feeling. Therefore, to measure the vagueness and suspicion, our proposed metric is useful. A feature of the metric is to measure only when and who speaks in meetings, not depending on what was said. Hence, the metric does not require software domain knowledge and development experience. The metric consists of system engineers’ speaking time and the number of stakeholders’ speaking within one question by a system engineer. The metric is applied to a practical project. As a result, we automatically extract vague discussion and suspicious discussion in quantitative analysis using the metric. The number of extracted doubtful topic is 37 in all 69 topics. After that, we confirmed that the metric can predict doubtful topics that cause software faults in precision 59.5%, recall 84.5%. In addition, we found that a repeatable topic may cause software faults in requirement meetings.

Software requirements classification is a human-intensive task performed during the requirements analysis phase in software development. This literature review analyzes the state-of-the-art of the classification of software requirements using Artificial Neural Networks. Fourteen articles were selected to conduct the review. Sixteen different techniques to classify requirements were identified where, besides artificial neural networks, the most popular are Naive Bayes and the Support Vector Machine. Among the reported Artificial Neural Networks, we identify Convolutional Neural Networks and a Shallow Neural Network. We also found seven approaches that classify functional and non-functional requirements, six that classify only non-functional requirements, and one of them that classifies only functional requirements. The most used metrics to express classification results were accuracy, recall, and F-score. Finally, the results of the classifiers are gathered and reported.

Mu'allaf is a call for non-Muslims who hope to convert to Islam or inherited Islam whose faith still needs to be supported and strengthened. It is the responsibility of Muslims to give support and strength to Mu'allaf who are now considered brothers in religion, especially in the form of welfare, moral, financial, and learning assistance. When a non-Muslim has entered the religion of Islam, he must learn the ritual of prayer and perform it to the best of his ability as a person who has just learned Islam. However, interpreting these prayers with a guidebook alone is insufficient; considering that they need additional help in terms of words and actions. The Prayers Learning Application is a new method to learn prayers that are taught digitally using the portable platform of Android. Thus, the purpose of this study is to design and develop an android application for teaching prayers for the guidance of Mu’allaf. This android application includes multimedia elements to attract and help users better understand delivering prayers. The study's methodology was based on design and development research (DDR) and Waterfall Model was used as a guide in developing this android application. Adobe Animate 2021 was chosen as a development platform, using Action Script 3.0 as the programming language to develop this android application. This application consists of four modules which are Prayer Note, Prayer Time, Simply Prayer, and Prayer Videos. Three experts from a local higher education institution were appointed to evaluate this android application in terms of its functionality through content, interface, and interaction design. The data analysis is acquired in the form of frequency and percentage. Results revealed that this android application is suitable for new learners, which is the mu'allaf community to learn about prayers. In addition, this android application is expected to provide a positive impact in terms of functionality and usability in the future, especially in teaching prayers for the guidance of Mu’allaf. This paper focuses on software quality assurance in android application development with focus on approaches to confirm software quality in android applications. In this work, we compare the waterfall model with agile-scrum methodologies to realize software quality assurance with special focus on mobile applications. This research allows us to answer, “Which process model and practices are available for android software development along with focus on quality assurance?” The other research focus in this paper is “How auditors, developers and testers play their defined roles to maintain quality in mobile application development?” Agility for software development has transformed into a preferred and favored method for mobile application development. The major aim of this research is to contribute for a better knowledge for mobile application development methodologies practiced by the organizations for the development of applications based on systematic literature review.

The principles of Web 2.0 such as transparency, security, community, usability, and availability are well suited to help effectively manage the effects of a disaster. Many Web 2.0 technologies rely on social collaboration, and as a result these technologies are built with robust communication channels. Utilizing this existing framework will help to create software systems that can efficiently manage disasters. This chapter will examine differing Web 2.0 innovations through the use of Activity Theory, and the benefits and drawbacks of each technology will be analyzed. From this analysis, recommendations and conclusions will be presented to the reader.

Based on Law no. 20 of 2003 education is the right of all Indonesian citizens, including persons with disabilities, especially in this article, namely people who are blind. The research objective is to develop technology-based teaching media for blind people. The learning media developed will help blind people learn mathematics independently like normal people in utilizing the sophistication of existing technology for independent learning. The application will be called Digital Mathematics Learning Companion (DMLC). DMLC is an application on the Android platform that is intended as a companion teacher for the visually impaired in learning mathematics. The DMLC application is an application on the Android platform that was developed with the facility of using voice both from instructions and commands to run the application. The application also allows users whose targets are visually impaired students to learn independently without being assisted by a special assistant teacher and run the application as a whole using voice commands and tap assistance as another alternative. In addition, users who cannot write braille can take advantage of this application to repeat the material until the user understands the material presented.
