Abstract

Support vector machine (SVM) is of great interest to classify high dimensional data. Parameter setting in the SVM significantly influences the classification accuracy. An improved algorithm based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) (M-PSO-SVM) for SVM parameter optimization is proposed to improve the classifier classification accuracy. This method introduces mutation operation, which allows particles to reinitialize after each iteration and update to avoid falling into local optimal solution and premature convergence. The improved PSO-based SVM classifier has been validated on a real hyperspectral dataset. Classification results show that the proposed method outperforms classifiers as well as SVM and PSO-based SVM.
