An Object-Centered Application Development System

Greece is a country rich in renewable energy sources (RES). A consequence of this is that the country performs well in the field of renewable energy applications. The share of renewable energies in the national production of primary energy is over 20 %. The bulk of the energy generated by the country’s RES is consumed in the building sector and covers mainly heating and hot water production needs. The forms of renewable energy that are found in applications in Greek buildings include solar, wind, geothermal and biomass energy. The quantity of energy that these energy sources represent increased by more than 70 % during the last decade for which statistics are available (2002–2012). This work presents and attempts to interpret the data for the development of renewable energy applications in buildings in Greece during this decade.

To reduce the cost of cloud tenants and avoid the phenomenon of vendor lock-in, multi-cloud technique is proposed and competent for this goal. However, it leads to another difficultly on supporting application development and runtime update process in the multi-cloud context. The key points for this problem are: (i) implementing application runtime switch among cloud services for varied service requirements and status; (ii) supporting runtime agile and low-cost update, and redevelopment for emerging new cloud services. To overcome this problem and advance multi-cloud applications execution, we present a support technique based on service driver concept. Service driver can help applications shield the heterogeneity and switch among cloud services. To support the implementation of service driver, we have finished the following three areas: (i) proposing a multi-cloud application service access model which is implemented through multi-agent system technique; (ii) presenting a multi-cloud application runtime service update and invocation process; (iii) introducing a multi-cloud application development framework. Furthermore, to help and direct developers to design and implement multi-cloud application, we describe a multi-cloud application (re)development method. This method includes multi-cloud application development process and runtime multi-cloud application agile redevelopment process. Finally, we interpret the multi-cloud application development support techniques and methods via case study.

The telecommunication industry has adopted object-oriented technology to represent specifications for a variety of standards, including those addressing inter-operability between network management applications developed in a multi-vendor environment. The CCITT TMN and OMNIPoint specifications include a large set of managed object definitions required by network management applications, and work is in progress to define additional managed objects for specific application domains. The object-oriented technology provides a more natural programming paradigm, and has a potential for higher reuse of software, resulting in a reduction of costs of development, operations, and maintenance of applications. Application development with object-oriented technology can be simplified through a set of development tools and middleware which can automate many of the commonly needed, complex, and error-prone tasks with the development. Automating these tasks allows application developers to concentrate on end-user functionality such as network fault isolation. We discuss AT&T's Management Application Architecture (MAA) which facilitates inter-operability of management applications, and inter-operability of objects and services within an application. We also discuss the object-oriented technology provided by AT&Ts BaseWorX applications platform which supports the MAA vision, and how the platform simplifies the development of standards-conformant network management applications. >

While previous research on application adoption has partly advanced our understanding of factors affecting the adoption of mobile applications, less attention has been given to the whole process of application development, from idea characteristics to the supportive activities after launch. In particular, less is known about these factors in the context of developing countries, where mobile applications are gaining increasing popularity. In this vein, this paper, adopting a grounded theory approach, aims to identify factors influencing the adoption of entertainment mobile application from the developer's points of view focusing on different phases of application development in the novel context of Iran. The authors' in-depth semi-structured interviews with experts in mobile application development firms indicate 15 factors classified within four categories based on the application development process, entailing idea characteristics, design, marketing communications and supportive activities. The implications of these findings provides valuable insight into why some mobile applications are more successful than others.

How we communicate usually determines the success with which our message is received, understood, or even accepted. Many universities are faced with the challenges of attracting new high school graduates, engaging them, and enhancing their skill-set. Modern day students prefer multi-tasking, learn better in social contexts, and thrive on smart phone apps and cyberspace. These smart phone apps can be used as a medium to expose students to nontraditional topics not covered in conventional software courses.

In the framework of the development of modern materials and alternative structural applications, aluminum and its alloys have become a very attractive possibility. They represent a series of relatively new structural materials, which incorporate special characteristics in terms of sustainability, along with their mechanical properties. In particular, durability and recyclability are some features among others that prove their environmental-friendly character, whereas in construction field, aluminum elements collaborate with other systems, such as photovoltaics in order to contribute significantly to energy efficiency. The scope of the present research effort is to present all the sustainable features of the most commonly used aluminum alloys, while their effect on environmental performance through building applications and techniques is discussed.

This paper presents the conceptualization, implementation, and evaluation of a Fast-speed IT Platform called Artfacts, which was designed within the context of the Two-speed IT Infrastructure, where a foundational, stable, and slow infrastructure is complemented by a creative, experimental, and agile additional infrastructure capable of promptly responding to the needs of communities. The platform is an attempt to digitally incorporate strategies for making sense and reusing digital collections and mitigate problems concerning specialized knowledge required for profiting from the affordances of data repositories as a creative material. In this sense, through the cartography of information, the platform aims at widening the participation of individuals with no technical background in the development and maintenance process of interpretive applications, no matter whether within cultural institutions or events such as hackathons for cultural heritage. Artfacts intermediates the reinterpretation of cultural datasets and the fabrication of interpretive applications by means of a flexible, general, and interoperable data model that is able to adapt to the demands of storytellers, and an open-ended Object-Oriented UI that enables analysis and experimentation by arranging and rearranging data elements into digital narratives.

Autonomous robots are already being used, for example, as tour guides, receptionists, or office-assistants. The proximity to humans and the possibility to physically interact with them highlights the importance of developing secure robot applications. It is crucial to consider security implications to be an important part of the robot application's development process. Adding security later in the application's life-cycle usually leads to high costs, or is not possible due to earlier design decisions. In this work, we present the Robot Application Security Process (RASP) as a lightweight process that enables the development of secure robot applications. Together with RASP we introduce the role of a Security Engineer (SecEng) as an important stakeholder in any robot application development process. RASP enables the SecEng to verify the completeness of his work and allows him to argue about the application's security with other stakeholders. Furthermore, we demonstrate how the RASP supports the SecEng and also other developers in their daily work.

Management plays an important role in a person's life by helping to achieve goals, reduce costs and effort, and provide direction and stability. Asset management is a crucial part of maintaining financial and economic stability, as assets are wealth that can serve as future security. Property, as one form of investment, can generate income through buying and selling at a higher price. However, many companies face challenges in managing assets efficiently. Therefore, we developed an asset management platform called Goopro, which focuses on asset management and transactions to help companies optimize their resources. In its development, Figma is used as a tool for interface design, while Google Forms is used for data collection needed in the application development process. The technologies applied include the Laravel framework for application development and MySQL as the database. This platform is expected to provide an effective solution for organizing and managing assets, supporting the economic growth of both companies and individuals.

Usability is an important element that enables the identification of the efficiency for application or product. However, many applications have been developed for general users’ needs and are unable to provide adequate applications usage for disabled people. This study focuses on the development of usability evaluation model and the validation process on the proposed model through experts. The developed model later evaluated by group of experts through focus group method. Focus group method enables to identify the 13 variables derived to develop the model are appropriately placed and useful in the evaluation process. The results shows that the selected variables are appropriate to identify usability of mobile application for the hearing impairment through three variables tested namely, gain satisfaction with the model, satisfaction with the model presentation, and support for tasks. Conclusively, the developed model can identify usability of mobile applications for hearing impairment and enable in identifying useful criteria to be included during application development process in real life process. As future study, the model can be tested among the hearing impairment people and practitioner to establish the results obtained which contributes to usability practitioners and application developers for the disabled.

In an effort to reduce the mortality rate due to infection in infants, immunization activities are carried out. Implementation of immunization, namely through Integrated Service Posts. In the current system, child immunization data is recorded on the KMS (Kartu Menuju Sehat) that parents bring to the immunization program. The card is prone to missing, which causes parents to not have their child's immunization history data. The existence of a computerized application can help the health service process to be faster and provide valid and up to date data. Immunization data monitoring application is an application that was built to help organize the data into information needed to support routine monitoring activities at the public health center of Pembina. The design of this application uses the Unified Modeling Language (UML) and is developed using the Rapid Application Development (RAD) method that can produce systems quickly and directly involve the user in the application development process. This research resulted in an immunization data monitoring application intended for parents and officers of the Integrated Service Post at public health center.

Using XML to improve the productivity and robustness in application development in geosciences

Currently, everything has become digitalized due to the rapid and remarkable advancements in technology in all aspects of life especially the Internet and smart technology. Automation system (AS) is a part of this rapid development due to its multiple and various utilization such as smart building control systems. This paper will study smart building control system, which monitors and manages power consumption and safety. It presents two different models named remote control appliances and safety. The first model is employed to reduce power consumption by controlling building appliances remotely and the second model consists of sensors, which increase the safety by monitoring temperature & humidity, gas and fire in buildings. The system's design is based on Internet of Things (IoT) through using NodeMCU microcontroller and Blynk platform via Internet connection. The building appliances such as A/C, water heater (W-H), TV and lights are connected to the control board (CB). The owner of the building can monitor and control the status of appliances via Blynk application through Internet connection. Moreover, safety is based on sensors such as DHT22, gas and flame sensors, which are placed to monitor the vulnerable areas in the building and sending alert message (notification and email) in real-time to the owner via Blynk Application if there are any critical values detected by the sensors. Such monitoring system increases the building safety. The implementation results of the presented system shows a major impact on power saving which reduce power consumption as well as increasing safety of the building.

Web Services offer a platform independent solution for system integration in a distributed environment. But Web Services are weak in representing the business semantics of application domains. This paper presents a model-driven approach for specifying domainspecific component models in an effort to complement the current Web Services technology in terms of enriching the semantics representation. Web Services Description Language (WSDL) can then be generated automatically from the models with generators. The modeling of domain-specific components serves as a front-end to represent the semantics of components as well as for formalizing components while the generated artifacts facilitate component service synthesis.
