Application of high performance computing based on big data in architectural interior design

With the big data of social development, the development of my country’s construction industry has gradually transitioned from a development model that simply pursues scale and speed to a new stage that focuses on urban development and people’s needs. The traditional way of expressing buildings in two-dimensional planes can no longer meet people’s needs for integrated interior design of buildings. In this regard, the purpose of this article is to conduct innovative research on architectural interior design models in the context of big data. This article first starts from reality, combs the representative domestic and international architectural interior design planning theories, and explores architectural interior design models suitable for domestic project construction. This paper proposes an integrated model of building interior design based on big data technology. This paper aims at the expression of the three-dimensional model of the building interior, combined with BIM technology, designing the architectural spatial information model from the perspective of concept and logic. For the designed building space information model, this paper starts from the traditional plane CAD data, and conducts big data research on the simplified algorithm of CAD data. Secondly, it builds the model of the special building components of the research object, and then realizes the interior design model Construct. Experimental results show that the architectural interior design model proposed in this paper can effectively manage and analyze interior design, and people’s satisfaction with design has increased by about 25%, meeting people’s needs, and providing an important reference for architectural interior design.KeywordsBig data technologyArchitectural interior design modeBIM technologyCAD data

The purpose of this research is to reveal the publishing practices in the field of interior architecture, which progress through different types of publication sources, and the conceptual trends of the prominent publishing platforms in the field of interior architecture and design, according to bibliometric data. Within the scope of the research, interior architecture and interior design source titles were listed in the Scopus database between 2000 and 2025, and data was collected between 25 August and 10 September 2025 (Scopus, 2025). Also, R Studio-Bibliometrix-Biblioshiny software was used for data analysis and visualization of scientific maps (Bibliometrix, 2025). Research Design: The study is descriptive and exploratory in nature and aims to reveal the current state of interior architecture and interior design literature and explore future trends. Bibliometric analysis and systematic literature review were adopted as the primary research strategies. Data Collection and Source Selection: Databases: Academic publications that form the basis of the study will be obtained from the following international and national indexes: Scopus database. Main Keywords: "Interior design," "Interior architecture," "Interior space," "Spatial design," and "Interior decoration." Language: English publications will be included. Time Period: 2020-2025 (the last quarter century of the academic history of the discipline). Publication Type: Articles published in refereed academic journals and conference proceedings. Data Downloading: Full texts of publications that meet the determined criteria will be downloaded with their citation information (authors, publication year, keywords, abstract, number of citations, etc.) and combined in a database. Data Analysis and Visualization: The collected raw data will be processed and interpreted using the following bibliometric analysis techniques. Software such as Bibliometrix (R Package) was used for the analyses. Keywords: youth, children, participation, mentorship, partnership, creativity, Turkey, Greece Introduction This study is about a collaborative project between three partners: Izmir University of Economics (IEU); the Turkish-German Foundation for Culture and Education (TAKEV), which is an elementary school; and Kids’ Guernica, an international initiative for peace. Izmir University of Economics established a buddy program with TAKEV Elementary School that paired university and elementary school students to work on specific projects. In the 2007-2008 academic year, we interviewed students and instructors to study the effects of the program on their creativity, self-confidence, responsibility, and opinions about the curricula. The University decided to implement the buddy program in the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design at IEU because visible results could be obtained in a short time, and because of the growing interest in these fields among middle-school children in Turkey. The five departments in the fine arts department are: Fashion Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture, Industrial Design, and Communication Design. The program began with Fashion Design, and moved on to Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, through which the partnership with Kids’ Guernica was developed. In the program, younger and older students worked together on models. The project gave the younger students a sense of university life, while the university students gained a sense of responsibility by aiding the younger students. Around the same time, Kids’ Guernica contacted the program to do a joint project. Peace Mural by Children from Chios and Izmir Kids Guernica is a project of peace for children. Its aim is to create peace paintings in various parts of the world in a participatory way. The canvases are the same size as Pablo Picasso's 1937 Guernica (3.5 m × 7.8 m), in which the painter showed the brutality of the Spanish civil war during the bombing of the city of Guernica. Through the IEU buddy program,1 in May 2007 we made arrangements to bring together children from Chios, Greece and Izmir, Turkey to paint a peace mural under the auspices of Kids’ Guernica.2 The painting was started in Chios and travelled to Izmir in September 2007 with a group of Greek children and supervisors where they continued work on it together. The initial painting took a whole new direction with the cooperation of the children from different backgrounds. In Izmir, the participants took part in a three-day workshop to discuss the topics of “peace,” the idea of countries being geographically and culturally very close but The Peace Mural: A PARTicipatory Project between Children... 239 politically distant, and Picasso’s work. The workshop also helped the participants form a cooperative atmosphere from which to complete the painting. After the workshop, the painting was exhibited in the Zappion–Megaron in Athens in conjunction with the symposium entitled “Productivity of Culture” on October 18 and 19, 2007. The symposium was organized by the Network of European Cultural Capital Cities. Second- and third-year Interior Architecture and Environmental Design students from the IUE, seventh- and eighth-grade students from the TAKEV School, and eight children from Chios worked together on the painting of peace. In recent years, with the continuous development of urbanisation, the proportion of interior design in public buildings has been increasing year by year. At the same time, there is a tendency in many places for the interior spaces of public buildings to be upscale and retro. This indicates that people are paying more and more attention to the spiritual aspect of their lives, in addition to the materialistic pursuit of enjoyment. The current phenomenon of overdecoration in society can lead to excessive luxury and wastefulness. In these wasteful interiors, the beauty of the building itself is lost. In addition, this type of interior design is not only expensive but also poses certain safety risks to some extent. In the modern society, public buildings are essential places for public activities. To be specific, they are closely linked to public services and social management attributes. As a result, public buildings usually play a decisive role in facilitating communication and cooperation between various persons. Thus, the construction requirements of public buildings are currently increasing and the structural shapes of buildings are becoming more complex. In addition, the level of technology and the use of public buildings are becoming increasingly demanding. As a result, it is quite important to examine how modern and emerging technologies can be applied to public building design in order to improve its effectiveness. At the same time, with the continuous and rapid development of China’s economy and the promotion of the concept of environmental protection, the greening of public buildings has become an object of concern and research. There are many different types of existing public buildings in China, and in the design process, the energy consumption of the building throughout its life cycle and its impact on the surrounding environment are not fully considered, resulting in problems such as high energy consumption and poor indoor comfort in the actual use of the building. However, the demolition and reconstruction of buildings can lead to waste of resources and environmental pollution. Therefore, it is feasible and necessary to study the application of green building technologies in the design of public buildings. This study models the effectiveness of public building interior design based on BIM technology from the perspective of integrated design as well as parametric design. This model enables the interior design of public buildings to become energy efficient, emission reducing, and environmentally sustainable. After all, the integration of architecture and interior design can reduce unnecessary decorative waste. In addition, this model can also respond to the government’s efforts to develop an ecological civilisation, creating a new way of living that is resource efficient.

Application of multi-objective genetic algorithm to optimize energy efficiency and thermal comfort in building design

In a period when the changing living conditions with the Covid-19 pandemic are effective in all areas of life, this research is an example that investigates how the second-year undergraduate Interior Design I applied course, which is carried out in Hacettepe University (HU), Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design in formal education, can be efficiently adapted to distance education and develops methods on this subject. A mixed research method combining qualitative and quantitative approaches was used to analyse students’ adaptation, motivation and project outcomes. In the research, it is aimed that the Interior Design I course, which was conducted online in the early period of the pandemic, will contribute to the related courses in case of a transition to distance education system due to different reasons. The course was divided into five different sections. Each section was taught by a different lecturer and a teaching assistant. In addition to the fact that the topics of all sections were the same, the requirements, evaluation criteria and exam dates were designed simultaneously. The research was conducted through the students (16) who chose this course in Branch II and their project studies. Various methods were developed to ensure the efficiency achieved in formal education. In line with the opinions, feedbacks and project outputs of the students who are the subjects of this process, suggestions for the adaptation of distance education to interior design courses have been developed. The findings revealed that students successfully adapted to online design education and achieved creative results comparable to face-to-face learning. The study focused on the adaptation process of traditional hand drawing to the digital environment applied in the distance education period. This study provides insights that can guide the development of flexible and sustainable design education models for future crisis conditions.

In this article, we present research on the design of buildings that respond to the performance of wireless networks by use of different materials and human-building interfaces. We discuss the way buildings accommodate propagation of wireless signals and different techniques to make this propagation more relevant to the use and experience of space. Early ubiquitous computing research proposed seamful design of interfaces and services as a way to promote embodied interaction and agency of the user. Contemporary approach to the design of seams aims to promote legibility of interactions with infrastructures. These interactions include connection, use, and quantification of wireless network performance. We review the work in architectural design that specifically addresses building permeability to electromagnetic radiation. We also examine electrical engineering research that explores the development and possible uses of frequency-selective surfaces in buildings. As a result, we make two proposals for the use of wireless networking infrastructure to promote location aware services and the design of connectivity-selective interiors. These proposals incite the rethinking of design and interaction with the built environment in terms of communication infrastructure that it relies on.

Architect Manuel de Sola?-Morales was one of the first designers to stress the importance of public interiors – places that are used as public spaces although they might belong to a private owner.1 Examples are libraries, hospitals or shopping malls. However, included within the concept of the public interior are also publicly owned spaces such as arcades, passages and inner courtyards, as well as collective outdoor public areas that provide shelter such as bus shelters (Figure1).These are spaces that Kristiaan Borret, the former city architect for Antwerp, describes as ‘secondary public spaces’. They differ from the so called ‘primary public spaces’, that is to say the actual streets, market places and squares.2 Complex interior environments are often subject to commercial logic or developer standards, factors that tend to make them less public. The layout of public interiors ought to be considered a challenging field of design and research, but this is not always the case. Where the ‘primary public space’, in particular, has long been the focus of research within the scholarly field of urban design and urbanism, existing research into public interiors proves to be fragmented. While ‘toolboxes’ for urban planners have been established, they lack the perspectives traditionally found in the field of interior architecture and interior design, such as user-relations, atmospheric variables and furniture design.Yet these considerations are particularly relevant to the conditions found within public interiors. Besides defining the term ‘public interior’, this paper aims to contribute to the development of an interdisciplinary design approach by exploring various methods for the analysis of ‘the public interior’ in the fields of urbanism, architecture, interior design and related academic fields.

Built environment is one of the major causes of the negative impact that human activity has on the environment. Building design should adopt such strategies that would help relieve this situation. Architects should therefore be able to grasp and implement all aspects of sustainable design, including cutting edge technologies, in a holistic and integral fashion. Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) represents an important field to explore, since photovoltaic systems have an enormous potential within the context of architectural and urban design. Their implementation though has to be part of the integral design process which is essential for the creation of quality sustainable architecture. Since the world urban population is constantly growing, sustainable approaches to architectural design need to be adopted with urgency in urban environment. Existing urban environment however presents great challenges to the implementation of any new technology. In an urban context we need not only design new buildings, but since the urban tissue is already in place, care must be taken not to damage the historical and architectural values. Furthermore, urban environment has many variations and offers a broad scope of possibilities for various approaches to BIPV. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the possibilities of BIPV in relationship to sustainable architecture and urban environment, focusing on explaining the necessity to provide architects with a methodology of working with advanced photovoltaic systems in architectural design, introducing the departure points for this intention, and demonstrating how such a methodology – a Design Manual – will be created.

Robust H∞ Controller Design for Aircraft Lateral Dynamics using Multi-objective Optimization and Genetic Algorithms

The indoor environment in educational buildings like schools and colleges need to provide a healthy atmosphere to encourage the students towards learning and improve their productivity. In educational buildings, both thermal and acoustical comfort depend on the site and there exists a relationship among buildings, open spaces, building design with external factors and also its interior design. The aim of the current paper is to study the thermal and acoustic principles in detail and analyze the factors that impact the occupant’s health and comfort by field study method in a school building. Both thermal and acoustical factors that influence the occupants’ health and comfort are highlighted in this study and prioritized for necessary enhancements in the school building. A central board school building was identified for the study and the paper discusses about the site features and building design. For this study, the field data was recorded during 2019. Based on the data collected, analysis was conducted on the influencing factors on thermal and acoustical comfort of the school building. The methodology of the work includes an understanding about the influencing factors of thermal and acoustical comfort with documentation of the school building design, field study measurements in the identified school building and analysing the building design with field measurements on thermal and acoustical factors in school building. The field study measurements were recorded using a Thermo-anemometer and a data logger to collect the data on temperature, humidity and wind speed. Subjective analysis was conducted about comfort and noise level among the students aged between 9 and 16 using a questionnaire survey. The opportunities for improving the occupants’ well being and comfort include various measures that are listed herewith; appropriate shading of the windows that can reduce the heat transfer into the building; well-channelized air movement into the indoor environment to improve the occupants’ comfort; and replacing the paved surfaces with grasscrete or aligning the axis path with shrubs to reduce the radiation towards the indoor surfaces. On the other hand, the selection of the appropriate building materials for wall construction provides an oppurtunity to increase the indoor environmental quality. It can also act as insulation to reduce the noise level in the classrooms.

Optimization of building thermal design and control by multi-criterion genetic algorithm

This research aims to explore the dynamic relationships within sustainable entrepreneurship. This research examines the evolving nature of sustainable entrepreneurship in the presence of three major aspects: social, economic, and environmental. In management literature, the idea of sustainable entrepreneurship is relatively new. Sustainable business practices are frequently referred to as stainability business practices. The idea was conceived to connect books on entrepreneurship and sustainable development. A qualitative research methodology is adopted for this research. Thirty-nine students from Art & Design sector were included in this study. A total of 39 students were involved in the research process. Students were later given a detailed project to submit entrepreneurial projects, including the sustainability factors. These 39 students were the graduates of the final semester from four different sectors: Fashion Design, Textile Design, Interior Architecture Design, and Graphic Design. It is not easy to progress toward sustainable entrepreneurship policies for all stakeholders involved to maximise their operations and benefits due to the fact that the existing institutional structures prefer the currently operating businesses and systems that are not sustainable over the more recent ones that are sustainable. The research findings in this study provide insights into concepts important to understanding sustainable entrepreneurship in a developing country. In interior architecture design, the consideration of materials and their essential values during the design process emerges of significant experiential potentials. One notable potential is the "trace" approach, which involves the application of craftsmanship to the material itself. It has been observed that contemporary interior architecture designs utilize the exposed traces of workmanship on materials. However, it has been observed that the current theoretical foundation of this subject remains to be established. This study has aimed to understand the approach of Ruskin (1903) on which the subject of material and trace is based, in the dialectical process of craftsmanship and material, and to revealed the current theoretical framework of the trace phenomenon and its potentials. The results of this study demonstrate that the material and trace approach enables designers to express their individual ideas through the medium of material. Additionally, it was determined that this approach is utilized to convey the main concept of the design, thereby serving as a medium for the articulation of the design idea.
