Autonomous Network and IT Resource Management for Geographically Distributed Data Centers

The goal of 5G-Crosshaul is to integrate fronthaul and backhaul operation under the same data and control planes. This paper focuses on the latter, by experimentally showing the flexibility of the 5G-Crosshaul Control Infrastructure (XCI). In this sense, various network setups featuring heterogeneous network and computing resources and high-speed mobility were deployed over the 5G-Crosshaul testbed. More specifically, three different use cases that exploit the capabilities embedded in the XCI have been experimentally evaluated. First, "hierarchical network orchestration" demonstrates how service setup times in complex multi-technology transport networks can be decreased from current manual configuration times in the order of days down to automated setups in the order of seconds by means of a resource management application that consumes the XCI services. Second, "energy management of IT and network resources" presents an energy management application that exploits the XCI to deploy network configurations that achieve energy savings ranging from 15% to 40% by dynamically reacting to datacenter and network conditions. Finally, the XCI was also exploited by an energy management application in a high-speed train mobility scenario featuring a radio over fiber network in which savings close to 80% were achieved.

This paper for the 20th anniversary issue of the Journal of Global Information Management (JGIM) looks back on the last ten years of research on two related areas highlighted in Tan and Gallupe’s (1999) manifesto for research on global information management in the decade ahead: global enterprise management and global management of information resources. In particular, the paper examines the relationship between the structure and governance of multinational enterprises (MNEs) and the structure and governance of IT resources in MNEs. Early IS research hypothesized alignment between enterprise organization structure and the structure of the IT function in high-performing organizations. However, research on “structure” in both MNEs and IT resources shifted to the concept of “governance”. This paper argues that IT organization design (structure and governance in combination) should be the focus of future research on IT resources management in MNEs. In addition, the paper argues that the relationship between MNE design and IT resources management is a critical topic. The paper examines three relationships among these two concepts: the contingency theory argument that IT resources management should follow and be aligned with MNE organization design, the universalistic argument that there is one best way to organize IT resources in MNEs, and the co-evolutionary argument that IT enterprise resources management design can lead, as well as follow, MNE organization design.

The expected higher complexity of upcoming 5G wireless backhauls suggests the need to evolve towards a softwaredefined networking (SDN) paradigm to increase the degree of programmability of these networks. Within the context of softwaredefined wireless backhaul, one important issue is the provision of an even resource consumption of both network and IT resources. Backpressure policies have shown their ability to balance resource consumption in traditional (non-SDN) wireless backhauls. This paper analyzes two use cases in which backpressure policies can be integrated in software-defined wireless backhaul to manage network and IT resources. The first use case proposes an SDN application based on a centralized backpressure policy to balance network resources in the wireless backhaul. Simulation results reveal how the granularity of routing decisions in the SDN application significantly affects the data plane performance, suggesting a trade-off between data plane performance and overload in the control plane. The second use case proposes a distributed backpressure policy to deal with the management of computing resources by balancing the processing load caused by OpenFlow (OF) switch requests among the available distributed SDN controllers. Simulation results demonstrate how a dynamic and distributed backpressure policy can balance the processing load amongst different SDN controllers, hence, leading to significant improvements with respect to static mapping policies.

Google proposed cloud computing concept in last 2006. And the interests of cloud service are rising rapidly. According to Gartner group's investigation, development view of cloud service is very hopeful. However, Skeptical sight is presented. If they don't support immigration and management schemes of existent IT resources then can't guarantee hopeful future about cloud service. Therefore, we are going to propose the way (AERMCS2: An Efficient Resource Management for Cloud Services using Clustering Schemes) that can manage IT resources effectively using existent clustering method for cloud service in this paper. AERMCS2 uses clustering concept and existing IT resources compose a cluster group. And act like single computer that compose a clustering and is done virtualized to solve user's request. We set two cluster groups in this research. First cluster group composes because have different hardware specification and make use of 5 computers that have high hardware specification. Second cluster group composes by 5 computers that have equal hardware specification and hardware specification is lower. We propose a scenario experiment using Hadoop that is cloud computing simulator to show efficiency. When manage IT resources using AERMCS2 that we was propose, existent IT resources re-usability is high. Process time was shorted more than double when compose clustering to computer groups which have equal hardware specification and use our scheme against of general cloud service.

In this paper, we propose a service provisioning model - Web service community. This Web service community supports various types of IT resource management networks, i.e. participant network, service network, and resource network. Those networks help build solutions with service provisioning capabilities in the Web services community. Service provisioning requirements are analyzed. Capabilities of the Web services community to support service provisioning are discussed.

Sustainable management of IT resources – the problem of e-waste

Summary form only given. Industry has been wrestling with the complexity of managing business systems for years. The challenge stems from the variety of application and IT resource providers that enterprises use to build their business systems. A range of management systems co-exist to manage the breadth of resources. The management industry and customers have an opportunity to take advantage of the industry trend towards using Web services for business integration and moving to service oriented architectures for business. It is now possible to garner these same advantages seen in business for management. Building manageable resources and management systems on a Web services foundation is going to cause a profound shift in how enterprises and vendors manage their IT resources in the future. Embracing this shift is going to create more flexible IT infrastructures, better integration of business and IT objectives, and greater end to end management of both IT infrastructures and business processes. This presentation provides a bottoms-up tutorial of Web services distributed management (WSDM), the new OASIS Standard that provides the first step in solving this classic management integration problem. The session will begin with an overview of the SOA based management architecture and WSDM's place in that architecture relative to other industry standards and initiatives. The technical tutorial will begin with an introduction on WSDL and WS-addressing, specifications on which WSDM depends. The presenters will build on this with an overview of the Web services for resource framework (WSRF) and Web services notification (WSN) OASIS specifications and discuss how they are used by WSDM. Finally, the session will explore WSDM components, management using WS (MUWS) and WSDM management of Web services (MOWS). MUWS defines how to represent and access the manageability interfaces of any IT resource as Web services. MOWS defines how to manage Web services as resources and how to describe and access that manageability using MUWS. Concrete customer issues solved by WSDM will also be highlighted as well as how CIM modeled resources can be accessed using WSDM. Apache MUSE and IBM Developerworks Toolkits will be used to illustrate the programming techniques

The informationalization construction is playing an increasingly important role for the development of enterprise group.However, there are problems that enterprise group has to be faced with, like the rapid growth of data, the continuous increase in purchase and maintenance costs of software and hardware equipment, the overlapping allocation of IT resources and so on. To solve these problems, a hierarchical model of intensive management of IT resources of enterprise group based on cloud services was established, and intensive management modes of software, hardware and knowledge of enterprise group were proposed as well.

Mobile Cloud Computing has become as a new IT paradigm because of the growth of mobile device like smartphone and appearance of Cloud Computing environment. This mobile cloud environment provides various services and IT resources according to users‘ requests, so an effective management of service and IT resources is required. Hence, this paper designs a profile on mobile cloud service platform in order to provide distributed IT resources and services to users based on context-awareness information. Domestic and global companies are increasingly using information and communication technologies as a means of delivering their strategic visions and thus maintaining a competitive advantage. The value of information assets has increased as firms’ asset base shifts from tangible to intangible properties, placing a premium on firms’ capacity to develop, manage and utilize their information assets. In this environment, companies aim to strengthen their business control over IT resources, maximizing performance through defining the responsibilities of all staff involved in IT resource management and processes. However, while most managers acknowledge the importance of managing IT assets within a framework of IT governance (ITG), only a small number of academic treatments deal with ITG, meaning that businesses often find themselves making their governance decisions in a vacuum. This chapter therefore aims to clarify the concept of ITG through conducting a literature review, suggesting some implications of this work for practitioners, and indicating directions for the future study of ITG.

A combined control of multimedia quality and network resource allocation is a core requirement for the deployment of communication services shared by multiple users (multi-user). The challenge resides in achieving a high number of satisfied users while saving the scarce network resources. This situation occurs due to the dynamic changes in resource demands, the existence of links with different capacities and the use of distinct QoS models along a session path. This paper proposes the Quality of Service Control for Multi-user Sessions (QUALITI) scheme to maintain multi-user sessions with acceptable QoS levels over heterogeneous networks, while optimizing the usage of network resources. QUALITI integrates QoS mapping and adaptation with network resource allocation along end-to-end session paths. QUALITI was evaluated through simulations that analyzed the convergence time, usage of network resources, throughput and one-way delay.

Scalability and resiliency are two significant requirements for upcoming beyond 5G networks. As network resource usage is expected to increase, scalability of the control plane handling the required amount of network resources is also necessary. Moreover, resiliency of cloudified control plane software mechanisms is also a requirement. This demonstration presents an Erlang-based Path Computation Element (PCE) able to perform traffic engineering for Segment Routing. Specific scalability and resiliency properties are provided in order to support transport connectivity in beyond 5G networks.

545 college students were investigated by using the self-made questionnaire “College students' use and management of network learning resources”. The results show that: (1) college students spent rather little time studying online, and made infrequent visits to online resources such as online courses and professional BBSs, thus the current situation of managing network resources is not optimistic; (2) there exist significant gender differences in the way they get network resources, significant major differences in their ability to gain network resources and significant students' source differences in managing network resources; (3) the awareness of managing network learning resources has an important impact on effective management of network resources.

Due to problems such as lack of interconnectivity between all 33 locations, between secretariats and several other points in the municipality, as well as difficulties in hiring, support, and speed of services provided by the telecommunications company, as well as security risks and adjustments to LGPD 13.709 /2018 and finally better management of IT resources, one of which was server virtualization, it was necessary to implement Cloud Phone telephony systems, Internet Mpls with Virtual Private Network at all points and server virtualization within the scope of the City Hall of Ibiá, Minas Gerais, represented a major transformation of the municipal IT infrastructure. The shift from a decentralized environment to an integrated structure has revolutionized operational efficiency, optimizing resources and increasing cybersecurity, as well as platform-as-a-service usage. The interconnectivity between all municipal public management locations facilitated communication and collaboration between different sectors and departments, enabling remote work and adaptation to new needs as they arise.

Cloud computing is challenging conventional wisdom and practices in the management of IT resources and capabilities; at the same time, the technical underpinnings of cloud computing offer unique opportunities and levers for addressing these challenges. In this talk, I will talk about a number of new research thrusts brought forth by the cloud computing paradigm. First, the large magnitude of a typical virtual machine (VM) image and the large volume of common VM libraries have major performance implications for many cloud operations. Fortunately, content similarity that often exists across distinct VM images may be exploited to optimize the transfer and storage of VM images. Second, resource virtualization in the cloud is at odds with the assumptions in traditional software license models, which must be adapted or extended for virtualized environments. There is also a critical need for new license management techniques to help cloud-based software users achieve cost-effectiveness and compliance. Third, cloud infrastructure is evolving towards heterogeneity and is becoming programmable and composable. The so-called Software-Defined Infrastructure promises agility, flexibility, efficiency, and resilience through continuous and proactive optimization of heterogeneous resources to meet the changing requirements of a wide variety of workloads. For each of these research thrusts, I will discuss the specific technical issues and some initial work conducted at IBM Research.
