Compact H-shaped microstrip antenna with shorting post using IE3D

In this paper, the characteristics of a small antenna using an H-shaped microstrip patch are studied. Significant reduction of antenna size can be realized when the H-shaped patch is used instead of the conventional rectangular microstrip patch antenna. The theoretical analysis is carried out based on the finite-difference time- domain (FDTD) method. The FDTD programs are developed and validated by available measurement results. The effects of various antenna parameters on the resonant frequency and radiation patterns are shown. Several design curves are presented, which are useful for practical antenna design. The electric current distributions on the patch and those on the ground plane are described, together with the results illustrating the electric field distributions under the patch. This antenna is suitable for applications where small size and broad beamwidth are required.

This paper presents a novel compact microstrip patch antenna for three-band application, consisting of a main straight arm and four spiral branches. This antenna is characterized by the very small size of only 0.191 /spl lambda/g by 0 212 /spl lambda/g at the first resonance frequency of 5.34 GHz, which represents a size reduction of 60% compared to a conventional rectangular microstrip patch antenna. The results indicate that the return loss is better than 10 dB and that the gain is about 6 dB in each band.

In this paper, metamaterial superstrate is proposed to enhance the performance parameters of conventional rectangular microstrip patch antenna. The metamaterial is designed using proposed diagonally connected square split ring resonator (DC SSRR). The designed DCS SRR shows the negative values of refractive index for broadband frequency band, 5.0 GHz to 12 GHz. Use of metamaterial superstrate on conventional rectangular microstrip antenna improves the return loss by 18 dB and enhances the gain, bandwidth and radiation efficiency by 1.2 dBi, 28 MHz and 17.5% respectively. The permittivity, permeability and refractive index of metamaterial are numerically computed using MATLAB. All performance parameters of antenna and S-parameters of DC SSRR are obtained using commercially available full wave electromagnetic simulator HFSS based on finite element method and verified by measured results. Good agreement is found between simulated and measured results.

In this paper a novel planar antenna is proposed for 5.2GHz band application. The area of designed antenna has been reduced by 52% in comparison to a conventional rectangular microstrip patch antenna. The antenna has three vertical stripes and one horizontal stripe. The length and width of these stripes are varied to tune the antenna for a certain operating frequency. The antenna is fed by using a 50 ohm microstrip line connected at the center of horizontal stripe. The fabricated antenna has return loss of 22dB at 5.27GHz and impedance bandwidth of 120MHz. A parametric study has been carried out to analyze and to find the design sensitive parameters.

RFID Tags, typically, require ultra-small antennas and at 900 MHz most of the designs end up being meandered line wire antennas. These may not be suitable because such antennas are heavily influenced by the object on which they are placed. An antenna with a ground plane, such as a microstrip antenna, is a more suitable candidate in that scenario, however, typically micrsotrip patch antennas are large in size. In this paper, we introduce a highly miniaturized microstrip antenna with multiple slots and a superstrate with high-permittivity material. The size of the microstrip antenna at 900MHz is reduced by 87.5% as compared to a conventional rectangular microstrip patch antenna at 900MHz. The gain of the miniaturized antenna is 0.36dBi, achieving 40% efficiency, which is decent enough for short to medium range RFID applications.

A simple dual-band antenna design and implementation method is proposed in this work, based on the equivalent media properties inspired by resonant metamaterial elements. The equivalent circuit model of dual-band patch antennas based on a complementary split ring resonator (CSRR) is presented and validated. The dual-band patch antenna is designed etching a CSRR in the patch of a conventional rectangular microstrip patch antenna. The first resonance is governed by the quasi-static resonance of the CSRR while the second resonance is originated by the rectangular patch. The fact of etching a CSRR on a rectangular patch antenna also produces a miniaturization of a conventional patch antenna. The equivalent circuit model proposed in this letter is sound in order to understand the functionality of dual-band patch antennas based on a CSRR. Good agreement between simulation, equivalent circuit model and experimental results is shown and discussed. These results lead the equivalent circuit model to become a simple and straightforward tool for the design of this type of multiband antennas, of low cost and versatile operation for a broad range of wireless communication systems.

The paper outlines a suggested technique for identifying thyroid cancer using an H-shaped microstrip patch antenna. Thyroid cancer originates in the nodules of the thyroid gland, which is situated in the neck and comprises two lobes connected by a slender band of tissues. The proposed microstrip patch antenna is crafted from copper and RT Duroid substrate, and it has a distinctive design that enables it to locate cancerous cells in the thyroid gland. When positioned in close proximity to the thyroid gland, the H-shaped patch antenna’s performance characteristics, including its VSWR, gain, and return loss, undergo changes, and these alterations are assessed in both cancerous and healthy tissues. Because cancerous cells have a higher water content than healthy cells, the antenna can gauge the SAR (specific absorption rate) of cancerous cells. Furthermore, the microstrip patch antenna’s performance can differentiate between normal and cancerous cell types. Finally, an H-shaped patch antenna is simulated utilizing the High-Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS), enabling scientists to evaluate the proposed antenna design’s potential efficacy for detecting thyroid cancer.

In this paper, natural response of an H-shaped patch under open boundary condition is presented using the theory of characteristics mode. A metallic H-shaped patch is analyzed using the characteristics mode analysis as well as full wave EM simulation. A parametric study is performed using the characteristics mode analysis and first two modes are observed. Based on the parametric study, H-shaped antenna is designed for 1.8 GHz and 2.4 GHz with same area (or equal outer dimensions). A full wave EM simulation is also presented for the proposed antenna.

An analysis and equivalent circuit model for an H-shape cross slotted aperture-coupled microstrip patch antenna (ACMPA) are presented. The study in the paper helps us to understand better the antenna property and also provides an easy way to design the antenna. The ACMPA consists of three conductor layers such as patch, ground plane, and feed line. The coupling exists in two places. One between the patch and a slot in the ground and the other between the slot and the feed line are represented by the ideal transformers. To calculate the turn ratio of the ideal transformer effectively the reciprocity theorem and the spectral-domain immittance approach are used. Moreover, vertical slots of `H' slot are considered as the reactive loads. The H-shape cross-slotted ACMPA operating at 3 GHz and 5 GHz simultaneously is fabricated. The good agreement between theoretical and measured results is shown.

This paper proposes unique design technique using defected microstrip surface (DMS) for the suppression of higher mode, reduced cross polarization (XP) and improved isolation. The proposed technique can be easily adapted to any conventional working rectangular microstrip patch antennas (RMPA) in the practical applications. The modification can be made by etching the rectangular slots called DMS of optimized dimensions in the rectangular microstrip patch. This will enhance the radiations by suppressing XP radiations and eliminates nearby undesired higher order mode, which is the source for the XP radiations. In this design the conventional RMPA is designed to resonate at 3.04 GHz with broad side radiations with co-polarized peak gain of 5.2dBi and XP of -15.5dB. The proposed RMPA resonates at the same frequency with a gain of 6dBi. The XP is significantly suppressed by 31dB and it is -46.5dB over the span of ±500, with co-pol to cross-pol isolation of 52.5dB is achieved for S-band applications. The performances of the designed antennas have been experimentally verified.

A single feed compact rectangular microstrip antenna is presented in this paper. A triangular slot is introduced at the upper edge of the patch to reduce the resonant frequency. A small piece of triangular patch is added within the area of the triangular slot to improve the gain bandwidth performance of the antenna. The antenna size has been reduced by 46.2% when compared to a conventional square microstrip patch antenna with a maximum of 160MHz bandwidth and i27:36dB return loss. The characteristics of the designed structure are investigated by using MoM based electromagnetic solver, IE3D. An extensive analysis of the return loss, radiation pattern, gain and e-ciency of the proposed antenna is shown in this paper. In this paper, a multi resonant MPA capable of operating satisfactorily in the frequency range of 2.39 GHz to 5.79 GHz have been proposed. The antenna has been designed using substrate of FR4 material having dielectric constant of 4.4 with a conducting radiating patch on the substrate and a conducting ground plane on the bottom side of substrate. The ground plane has been partially reduced to improve the antenna bandwidth. The antenna performance has been analyzed in terms of various antenna parameters such as return loss (dB), impedance bandwidth (GHz), gain (dB), directivity (dBi), Half power Beam width (Degree), current density and VSWR. The antenna has been designed and simulated using CST Microwave Studio (2010). The designed MPA is suitable to be used for Bluetooth, IMT, WLAN and WiMAX applications. The antenna has bandwidth of 3.40 GHz and VSWR of less than 2. The antenna has been successfully fabricated and tested. It has been observed that the practical results obtained by testing the fabricated antenna using Network analyzer E5071C closely matches with the theoretical results obtained by simulating the antenna design in CST MWS 2010.

This paper presents the design and simulation of 30°-30°-120° triangular microstrip patch antenna miniaturization using shorting pin for S-band frequency operation. The analysis of miniaturized triangular microstrip antenna with shorting pin is performed by Ansys HFSS based simulation results. The conventional and compact triangular microstrip patch antenna shows the resonant frequency at 2.2 GHz and 2.4 GHz with gain of 1.2 dB and 1.7 dB respectively. Here the conventional triangular microstrip patch antenna area is miniaturized upto 31% through the shorting pin. The comparison between the conventional and compact triangular microstrip patch antenna are presented and discussed in this paper. The proposed compact triangular microstrip patch antenna is often suitable for integration with Bluetooth and WLAN devices with reduced design complexity.

In this paper, we discuss the process to fabricate a microstrip patch antenna by using graphene as a substrate material. Ours is the age of modern technology. Wireless communication is one of them. In wireless communication, graphene is widely used in the twenty-first century. Microstrip patch antenna provides better performance and better anticipation compared to other antennas. Microstrip patch antennas are more preferable compared to others because of their low cost, small size, and high performance. The graphene has a reconfigurable surface conductivity that can be tuned to operate at the desired frequencies. The main concept we focus on here to locate the best feed point of a microstrip patch antenna. This paper represents a graphene-based microstrip patch antenna. It has a 2.45 GHz resonant frequency for wireless communication. Here we use CST STUDIO SUITE 2017 software for designing and simulation our antenna. It shows the voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR), return loss, H-plane radiation pattern, and input impedance. The simulation output result shows a gain 6.801 dB and directivity of 7.302 dBi. It has return loss -23.673dB. Finally, we build up a design process of a graphene-based microstrip patch antenna.

In this demonstrative research work, a high gain reduced ground terahertz (THz) rectangular microstrip patch antenna suitable to be employed for detection of Trinitrotoluene (TNT) explosives have been proposed. The polycarbonate material having dielectric constant (e r ) 2.1 with thickness of 0.7 μm has been proposed to be employed as substrate in the antenna design. In the proposed antenna, the substrate is sandwiched between the patch and ground made up of copper material having thickness 0.05 μm with conductivity of 5.67 × 107S/m2. The proposed antenna has been designed using reduced ground structure to enhance in bandwidth and return losses. The proposed antenna has been designed and simulated using Computer Simulation Technology (CST) Studio Suite 2016. The performance of the proposed antenna has been scrutinized in terms of different antenna parameters such as return loss (Su), directivity (dBi), gain (dB), bandwidth (THz), VSWR and Half Power Beam Width (HPBW). It has been analyzed that the proposed antenna has an impedance bandwidth of 0.43065 THz with an operating frequency range of 8.8919 THz-9.3225 THz and resonant frequency (fr) of 9.108 THz. The gain and directivity of the proposed antenna is 7.357 dB and 7.127 dBi at resonant frequency of 9.108 THz. The proposed antenna has impedance of 50.06 ohm making it suitable to be fed by SMA connector of 50ohms impedance. The proposed antenna has return loss (S 11 ) of 69.03 dB at resonant frequency of 9.108 THz. The proposed antenna can be suitably employed for the detection of the Trinitrotoluene (TNT) explosives.
