Design and implementation of general distributed heterogeneous data exchange system

Database technology is of great variety, structure diversity, solving data integration and exchanges sharing of the heterogeneous database system have became the important problem in all fields. Because of XML is the very important data exchange technology to realize data exchange and transmission ability, this paper mainly explores the data exchange problem how to use XML in heterogeneous database system, , and .Net platform have good support to XML and heterogeneous database system, so the combination of XML and.net, can realize data exchange of heterogeneous database system.

The increasing popularity of the Web of Data is motivating the need to integrate semantic-web ontologies. Data exchange is one integration approach that aims to populate a target ontology using data that come from one or more source ontologies. Currently, there exist a variety of systems that are suitable to perform data exchange among these ontologies; unfortunately, they have uneven performance, which makes it appealing assessing and ranking them from an empirical point of view. In the bibliography, there exist a number of benchmarks, but they cannot be applied to this context because they are not suitable for testing semantic-web ontologies or they do not focus on data exchange problems. In this paper, we present MostoBM, a benchmark for testing data exchange systems in the context of such ontologies. It provides a catalogue of three real-world and seven synthetic data exchange patterns, which can be instantiated into a variety of scenarios using some parameters. These scenarios help to analyze how the performance of data exchange systems evolves as the exchanging ontologies are scaled in structured and/or data. Finally, we provide an evaluation methodology to compare data exchange systems side by side and to make informed and statistically sound decisions regarding: 1) which data exchange system performs better; and 2) how the performance of a system is influenced by the parameters of our benchmark.

A systematic literature review is being carried out as part of a Ph.D. research project, which is focussing on the security problems caused by inference in distributed and autonomous information systems. Inference problems differ from other security problems because they do not directly violate access control mechanisms. For example, a user may infer an aircraft’s secret destination using unclassified values for the range of the aircraft and its direction of flight. The aim of the research is to investigate the effects of inference when information is collated from autonomous, heterogeneous and distributed information systems (Budgen et al., 2005).

Product data exchange (DE) is a key technology to implement collaborative design of heterogeneous CAD. Based on analyzing layered expression of product CAD model and current methods of DE, heterogeneous CAD hybrid data exchange (HDE) based on feature semantics and geometry representation is presented. The method integrates advantages of feature semantics exchange (FSE) and geometric data exchange (GDE). It features high flexibility and reliability. A case illustrates the validity of the method.

To resolve the complexity and diversity of data exchange, the paper designed an data exchange system based on middleware technology, which realized different parsing and filtering capabilities. The method can meet the need of data exchange on the premise that network security can be guaranteed. The test results show that functionality and performance of the system meet the requirements of data isolation and exchange.

The differences between CAD systems in data structures, result in the difficulty of synchronized collaborative design upon heterogeneous CAD systems. A data exchange method based on cellular ontology model (COML) is presented. Using COML as a medium, communication between heterogeneous CAD systems is achieved. COML which is a product data model of the highest abstract layer, implements uniform representation of different knowledge of CAD feature models and real-time semantics exchange. The test results show that the proposed approach is available and effective.

The realization of the data exchanges between the reverse engineering system and CAD / CAM system is by Graphics Interchange standards, of which the initial graphics exchanges specification IGES is one of the important ways that data exchanges in systems. At first, the paper introduces the structures of the five parts that composes the IGES file. Secondly, it also introduces the meaning of the parameters that the rational B-spline surface in IGES and gives the method to identify and extract IGES surface data in the reverse engineering system. At last, it uses the OpenGL graphics system to show the surface data. Then, the exchanges of the surface data between the systems can realize easily by the method.

With the development of Energy Internet technology, the contents of the external information network are more and more abundant. The data of various types of business systems is frequently interactive between intranet and external information network, but it also brings about lots of security risks. Aiming at the existing security problems, this paper presents a secure data exchange model based on proxy middleware, and the proxy middleware for the client and service is designed in detail. The methods for security filtering are mainly by SOAP digital signature, SOAP encryption, authentication, timestamp, sequence number tag, blacklist and white list, access control for methods, access control for time and so on. The aim is to achieve data encryption and data filtering for data exchange system and guarantee effectively the security of the data exchange system.

M2M (Machine to machine) service has been designed to provide the customer with remote monitoring and control for various sensors and controllers. M2M platform is composed of a bunch of the software and devices equipped with network connectivity providing data manipulation and exchange among devices and applications. It is also required to be equipped with data management and analysis functions independent of the specific services. In this paper, it is proposed a highly scalable and flexible data exchange protocol, named UM3, which is independent to industry and products. The proposed UM3 data exchange protocols with data model and its encoding rules have strong interoperability to the various M2M related industry standards. UM3 data model based on ITU-T ASN.1 specification language has the capability of representing a time varying unstructured data format. The binary encoding rule of UM3 uses T-NL-N-L-V PDU format. It uses character string instead of numerical tag values as its attribute identifier. UM3 encoding rule provides XML and JSON encoding schemes as its text-based encoding methods. The merits of binary and text based encoding rules are more self-descriptive compared to numerical values based BER, XER and BACnet, etc. By the proposed in this paper self-descriptive capability and compatibility to the other industry protocols, integration of various M2M devices with different industry M2M platforms shall be more easer and expandable by modular way resulting general purpose M2M services. Finally, the pros and cons by character string based data exchange protocol and the future directions of M2M platform for different type of sensors and industry would be discussed and suggested.

Rapid advances in information technology are changing the way technical data is created, stored, and used. These advances have created opportunities to reduce costs and improve productivity in both the administration of data and in the acquisition and operation of weapon systems. To realize these benefits, effectively administered data dictionary systems are required. Data dictionary systems are databases that store and manage data related to the structure and use of information resources. These databases will facilitate the access and exchange of data with the DoD, within industry, and between the DoD and industry during the acquisition and operation of the weapon system. The access, exchange, and integration of data that the data dictionary supports will revolutionize weapon system engineering, manufacturing, and support. To realize the full potential of data dictionaries, three requirements need to be satisfied: (1) Establish an organization to administer and manage technical data and data dictionaries; (2) Implement and administer data and procedural standards that will govern weapon system life cycle data and activities; and (3) Establish a data management process that will provide needed services to technical data users

This paper addresses the problem of controlling a heterogeneous system composed of multiple Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) for formation and containment maintenance. The proposed approach considers actuator time delay and, in addition to formation and containment, considers obstacle avoidance, and offers a robust navigation algorithm and uses a reliable middleware for data transmission and exchange. The methodology followed uses both flocking technique and modified L1 adaptive control to ensure the proper navigation and coordination while avoiding obstacles. The data exchange between all the agents is provided through the data distribution services (DDS) middleware, which solves the interoperability issue when dealing with heterogeneous multiagent systems. The modified L1 controller is a local controller for stabilizing the dynamic model of each UAV and AUV, and the flocking approach is used to coordinate the followers around the leader or within the space delimited by their leaders. Potential Field (PF) allows obstacle avoidance during the agents’ movement. The performance of the proposed approach under the considerations mentioned above are verified and demonstrated using simulations.

Closely coupled CPU and GPGPU system with the shared last level cache (LLC) enables fine-grained data exchange. However, traditional data exchange causes unnecessary LLC misses and degrades the entire system performance. We believe that the cache organization is not suitable for the temporary data exchange in the closely coupled system. We analyze the memory access pattern and discover the inefficiency data exchange. When the exchanged data cannot fit in the LLC, the low LLC hit rate exacerbates core stalls and memory contention. We also show that the stalls cannot be entirely covered by increasing the compute load or parallelism. In previous work, a simple LLC buffer is introduced to replace the cache with an architecture-supported data queue. However, the simple design limits the data element size and requires a potentially very large storage for pending requests. In this paper, we propose an improved LLC buffer. It adopts element-atom data organization to enable data exchange of arbitrary size. A simple hardware-software collaborated protocol is adopted, and eliminates the pending requests. The experiment results reveal that it has an average speedup of 48.2% compared with the traditional way, but incurs a 7.5% slowdown compared with the simple LLC buffer due to the overhead of the protocol. We also compare it with the fine-grain task, which implements a data exchange channel between CPU and GPGPU. The results show that the improved LLC buffer has less storage overhead but higher access efficiency than the fine-grain task.

The recent deployment of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) has emerged as the most promising approach to provide an extensive computational capability for processing and controlling physical entities, which relies on reliable data exchanges among machines in CPS. However, for CPS exploiting public network infrastructures, links in CPS may suffer from a variety of vulnerabilities to harm real-time data exchanges. Providing network resilience for real-time communications consequently becomes the most critical requirement in CPS. Considering the support of multiple communication paths in state-of-the-art network infrastructures, in this paper, we develop a mathematical resource-optimal network resilience design for CPS. In our design, duplicates of timing sensitive data are simultaneously forwarded via multiple communication paths. Therefore, timing constraints are violated only if all communication paths fail to forward data to the destination on time. By analyzing the relationship among the probability of timing constraint violation, the time domain resource allocation, and the number of communication paths (the spatial domain resource allocation), our design leads to the minimum resource usage to support real-time data exchanges in CPS. Our mathematical resource-optimal design solves the most challenging issue of unreliable data exchanges in CPS in the most efficient fashion, to consequently support the maximum number of machines in CPS.

Health facilities in developing countries are increasingly adopting Electronic Health Records systems (EHRs) to support healthcare processes. However, only limited studies are available that assess the actual use of the EHRs once adopted in these settings. We assessed the state of the 376 KenyaEMR system (national EHRs) implementations in healthcare facilities offering HIV services in Kenya. The study focused on seven EHRs use indicators. Six of the seven indicators were programmed and packaged into a query script for execution within each KenyaEMR system (KeEMRs) implementation to collect monthly server-log data for each indicator for the period 2012-2019. The indicators included: Staff system use, observations (clinical data volume), data exchange, standardized terminologies, patient identification, and automatic reports. The seventh indicator (EHR variable Completeness) was derived from routine data quality report within the EHRs. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, and multiple linear regression analysis was used to examine how individual facility characteristics affected the use of the system. 213 facilities spanning 19 counties participated in the study. The mean number of authorized users who actively used the KeEMRs was 18.1% (SD = 13.1%, p<0.001) across the facilities. On average, the volume of clinical data (observations) captured in the EHRs was 3363 (SD = 4259). Only a few facilities(14.1%) had health data exchange capability. 97.6% of EHRs concept dictionary terms mapped to standardized terminologies such as CIEL. Within the facility EHRs, only 50.5% (SD = 35.4%, p< 0.001) of patients had the nationally-endorsed patient identifier number recorded. Multiple regression analysis indicated the need for improvement on the mode of EHRs use of implementation. The standard EHRs use indicators can effectively measure EHRs use and consequently determine success of the EHRs implementations. The results suggest that most of the EHRs use areas assessed need improvement, especially in relation to active usage of the system and data exchange readiness.
