Developing Competency Standards for Occupational Health Nurses in Australia

NCS development for the treatment of waste oils from ship was carried out through steps such as analysis on characteristics, development of competency standard, utilizing package, and validation of industry sites. The results were as follows. Firstly, duty competency was classified as levels from 2 to 6. Educational training institutions were followed by 75 graduate schools, 73 universities, 54 colleges, and 37 high schools. Secondly, developed standards were consisted of duty and competency unit. The name of duty was the treatment of waste oils from ship and competency units were consisted of 8 items as classification of waste oils from ship, pickup and transport of waste oils from ship, warehousing of waste oils from ship to marine disposal company, transport of waste oils from ship to land, warehousing of waste oils from to disposal company, determination of disposal method and plant recycling treatment, and incineration treatment. 28 competency unit elements below 8 competency units were developed. Thirdly, utilizing package was developed into 3 areas of life-long career path, training criteria, and guidelines for exam according to national competency standards in order to develop development of labor's career and perform personal management such as hiring and promotion in industry sites.

This paper describes occupational health nurses' and school staff members' experiences of work ability maintenance carried out at schools and the development of ideas to promote the collaboration between occupational health care and school community and to enhance work ability maintenance. The data were collected in a baseline situation of an action research project to further plan and develop activities. The data were analysed by inductive content analysis. According to the results, school community staff members' work ability maintenance focused on the employee, the school community, school work and the working conditions as well as professional competence. The practical actions involved some individual and school-specific variation, focusing on actions to maintain individual and physical work ability. It seems that the collaboration between the school community and occupational health service for work ability maintenance took place at the individual level, but an obvious need for more structural collaboration emerged by several suggestions made by the participants (e.g. better information exchange between the school and occupational health care, improved collaboration between the school staff and the co-operative partners). The progress in collaboration may lead towards spontaneous collaboration, in which case both actors have the same target and work in a planned, continuous and natural way to ensure work ability maintenance in the school community.

정보보호 산업 분야에서도 신규 인력의 양성과 재직자의 지속적인 직무능력 향상을 위해 국가직무능력표준(NCS : National Competency Standards)의 도입이 필요하다. 특히 정보보호 전문 인력의 효율적 운영을 위해 신규 인력 양성을 위한 NCS 교육과정의 도입은 중요하다. 그러나 현행 NCS는 정보보호 산업분야에 대한 세분류가 명확히 제시 되지 않아 교육훈련 기관에서 교육과정으로 도입하는데 어려움이 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 직무별 인력유형에 따라 교육과정에 도입 가능한 능력단위를 선정하였다. 능력단위 선정을 위해 우선 선행 연구들에서 제시한 필요 지식 및 기술을 고려하였고, 추가적으로 공공기관, 공기업 및 일반 기업에서 시행하고 있는 NCS 기반 채용 기준을 포함하였다. 선정된 능력단위는 직무의 중요도, 교육의 필요도에 따라 필수 능력단위와 선택 능력단위로 구분 하였고, NCS 정보통신(SW) 분야의 신 자격 경력 경로 모형에 적합한지에 대한 검증을 하였고, 최종적으로 정보보호 산업분야 신규 인력양성을 위한 NCS 교육과정 설계에 필요한 능력단위와 교과목을 제안하였다. National Competency Standards (NCS) need to be introduced to train newly hired staff and to gradually improve employees' work performance in the information security industry. In particular, the introduction of a new NCS curriculum for new hires is important in order to retain and efficiently manage professionals in the information security field. However, the legacy NCS is not clearly designed for the information security field. So a formal curriculum has been suggested for institutions training the information security workforce. Therefore, this study establishes a competency unit based on the types of personnel, their duties, and required knowledge. To select the competency unit, this study reviewed prior research to understand the required skills and work knowledge, and reviewed recruitment-based NCS that public agencies and public and private companies have carried out, including them in the study. The selected competency unit was classified into a required competency unit and an elective competency unit based on the importance of the duties and the demands of training. Through a verification process for the new, licensed career path model in the NCS information and communications field, this study suggests updated NCS competency units and required courses to provide an appropriate NCS curriculum for newly hired employees in the information security industry.

The requirement for an allied health workforce is expanding as the global burden of disease increases internationally. To safely meet the demand for an expanded workforce of orthotist/prosthetists in Australia, competency based standards, which are up-to-date and evidence-based, are required. The aims of this study were to determine the minimum level for entry into the orthotic/prosthetic profession; to develop entry level competency standards for the profession; and to validate the developed entry-level competency standards within the profession nationally, using an evidence-based approach. A mixed-methods research design was applied, using a three-step sequential exploratory design, where step 1 involved collecting and analyzing qualitative data from two focus groups; step 2 involved exploratory instrument development and testing, developing the draft competency standards; and step 3 involved quantitative data collection and analysis - a Delphi survey. In stage 1 (steps 1 and 2), the two focus groups - an expert and a recent graduate group of Australian orthotist/prosthetists - were led by an experienced facilitator, to identify gaps in the current competency standards and then to outline a key purpose, and work roles and tasks for the profession. The resulting domains and activities of the first draft of the competency standards were synthesized using thematic analysis. In stage 2 (step 3), the draft-competency standards were circulated to a purposive sample of the membership of the Australian Orthotic Prosthetic Association, using three rounds of Delphi survey. A project reference group of orthotist/prosthetists reviewed the results of both stages. In stage 1, the expert (n = 10) and the new graduate (n = 8) groups separately identified work roles and tasks, which formed the initial draft of the competency standards. Further drafts were refined and performance criteria added by the project reference group, resulting in the final draft-competency standards. In stage 2, the final draft-competency standards were circulated to 56 members (n = 44 final round) of the Association, who agreed on the key purpose, 6 domains, 18 activities, and 68 performance criteria of the final competency standards. This study outlines a rigorous and evidence-based mixed-methods approach for developing and endorsing professional competency standards, which is representative of the views of the profession of orthotist/prosthetists.

ABSTRACTObjectives:to develop a framework of core competencies for occupational health nurses based on their professional experience.Methods:an exploratory qualitative study, carried out with occupational health nurses linked to Brazilian and multinational companies, with data collection from January to May 2021, through an electronic form (sociodemographic data), followed by a semi-structured interview. Inductive thematic data analysis was carried out. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee.Results:eight core professional competencies for occupational health nurses were identified: legal; effective communication; staff and service management; relational; improvement of work processes; continuing education; health and safety; and research. Their knowledge and skills were synthesized in a competency framework.Final Considerations:the construction of a framework for occupational health nurses should guide managers and training centers in improving these professionals’ knowledge and skills within organizations and academia, aiming at changing their profile and professional recognition.

The State University of Surabaya yield the teacher candidates who are having four standards of competencies namely pedagogy, personality, social, and professional competence. Teacher competencies are taught through courses to complete teaching plan and be able to teach with innovative learning model. The aims of this study were to (1) develop learning video about how teachers teach with innovative learning model, (2) determine how the students’ responses after watching the video, and (3) determine achievement of standards of professional and pedagogy students competence. The samples of this study were 30 students. The data is collected by using video validation sheets, observation sheets of teacher competence in the field of pedagogy and professional, and student responses questionnaire to the video; and it were analyzed descriptively. The result indicated that (1) there were three instructional videos, which are direct learning model (DLM), cooperative learning model (CLM), and problem based learning model (PBLM). These videos have been validated by the two experts, and it was feasible in learning; (2) the DLM, CLM, and PBLM are good; (3) about 53% students’ achievement are very good. There were many opportunities for future studies to seek greater insight into the benefits of lecturer-created course videos, who could help students to illustrate how teaching in a real learning environment Keywords— instructional video; direct learning model; cooperative learning model; problem based learning model.

The purpose of this research is to analyse the process of development and verification of 'National Competency Standards’ of Hanbok production, which was carried out in 2013 for the fashion industry. As the result of this research, the definition of the duty in Hanbok production is 'to conduct a series of step-by-step processes of planning and developing fabric and design, then making pattern, cutting fabric and sewing.' The competency unit for Hanbok production is analyzed in 10 categories: analysis of market trends, design plan, production and manipulation of fabric, production process plan, sample making, pattern making, cutting out, sewing, finishing sewing, inspection of the product quality. Competency unit elements of each competency unit are as follows. 1) analysis of market trends: to research market trend resources, to analyse consumers' buying trend, to analyse industry changes, 2) design plan: to develop design, to plan fabrication, to draw flats, 3) production and manipulation of fabric: to develop fabric planning, to prepare fabric manipulation, to conduct fabric manipulation, 4) production process plan: to grasp design, to plan sewing method, to prepare a specification sheet, 5) sample making: to make a sample pattern, to cut sample fabrics, to sew sample, to finish sample making, 6) pattern making: to measure body, to make production pattern, to adjust production pattern, 7) cutting out: to care fabrics, to lay out patterns, to cut out fabrics, 8) sewing: to sew a garment, to sew a lining, to at-tach a lining, 9) finishing sewing: to neaten edges, to attach trims, to press to finish, 10) in-spection of the product quality: to confirm correspondence with the specification sheet, to inspect appearance.Key words: competency unit (), duty analysis (), element of competency unit ( ), hanbok production ( ), national competency standards ( )

In March 2000 the Australian & New Zealand College of Mental Health Nurses submitted the final report on the National Scoping Study of Mental Health Nursing in Australia to the Mental Health Branch of the Department of Health and Aged Care. In this final article, in a series of four, the authors present an overview of the future prospects of mental health nursing in Australia.

The Recognition is used for the processes of accreditation, assessment, credit transfer and prior learning for competence of LIS sectors. The paper is focuses on a strategy for using the Library sectors competency standards as units of ‘currency’ in the recognition process. It could also be used a model for adapting any together training modules or programs to match the Library industry competency standards. The Linkages form each unit of competency to modules Library and information science studies allow training providers to meet their own system requirements for certification and maps their outcomes to appear in a statement of competency attainment. How it's provides an overall framework which encompasses a number of models or options that can be further adapted for use in Library workplace or in training situation but the problem of this research is based on assessment against the LIS sector competency standard in Fiji and provides a common basis against which to benchmark the learning that takes place in many different situations.

Purpose: The assessment of technical staff members’ competency has been a challenge for laboratory workers, to ensure patient safety and high quality services. The aim of this study was to (1) investigate awareness on best ways to assess lab competencies; (2) identify existing institutional methods of competency assessment and how staff perceptions; and (3) gather opinions of respondents about a proposed program for competency assessment in laboratory medicine.Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted, followed by an interview and discussion with laboratory stakeholders about a proposed competency assessment program that included all the six procedural elements of laboratory personnel competency assessment. An online questionnaire was sent via email to different hospitals in Saudi Arabia through survey monkey. A proposed competency assessment program was circulated via email to laboratory stakeholders who agreed to be enrolled in structured interviews.Results: A total of 47 out of the 168 (25.3%) laboratory workers responded to the emailed survey administered via survey monkey. Among the survey respondents, 16 out of the 47 (34%) participated in the structured interview and the discussion and formed the community of practice group that provided insight and opinion about the proposed competency program. Among stakeholders, 87.2% practiced in accredited laboratories. Over half (52%) of respondents positively rated the proposed program. Results of interviews and discussions revealed suggestions about continuous ongoing assessment, such as the inclusion of laboratory quality management and safety as separate items to be unified for all sections.Conclusions: The proposed competency assessment program overcomes challenges noted in competency assessment and has been positively received by stakeholders. This program will be validated by a group of experts then implemented as part of a core curriculum for laboratory staff, in their assessment, certification, recertification, registration, evaluation and licensure in sample laboratories in Saudi Arabia. The program will be monitored and evaluated during and after implementation for processes and outcomes. Conclusions will be utilized for national competency program. This study represents an important step towards the implementation of a standardized laboratory competence assessment program at a national level.

An analysis of Australian graduate critical care nurse education

INTRODUCTION: Successive inquiries into mental health services in Australia have identified the need for major reform of services and proposed a return to direct-entry nursing training. To identify what service users, family and supporters have found helpful in their encounters with nurses in mental health settings. A survey of 95 service users and supporters rated the importance of the capabilities and competencies of nurses. They also shared examples of helpful encounters with nurses which were subject to thematic analysis. The most highly rated competencies were around demonstrating caring, empathy and understanding, and responding effectively in crisis situations. Helpful encounters involved enacted values, highly skilful interpersonal and psychotherapeutic engagement and practices that were facilitative and supportive. The process and content of pre-registration nursing training needs to refocus on the nurse meeting the needs of service users and supporters, rather than the instrumental needs of services today. Educational reform may be necessary but insufficient to address anticipated nursing workforce shortages. Policymakers and health service directors need to align services with mental health nursing values and promote practices aligned with what service users and their supporters report as helpful.

This study aimed at providing an overview of the ability of eighth semester students in performing expose oral given that one of the competence of speech that must be achieved by students semester eight competency standard contained in the CECRL document is the competence to conduct expose. To obtain the necessary data in this study, the author use several research techniques such as direct observation, interviews, questionnaires, library studies, and documentation with the population and sample that is the whole process of expose oral execution in the course Francais du Tourisme and all students semester eight registered follow the course. The authors hope that the results of this study can contribute to improve the quality of teaching especially in the department of French Literature STBA Yapari-ABA Bandung and improvement of speaking ability of eighth semester students by using French in accordance with the competence standards set in CECRL.
