Developing Re-usable Components Based on the Virtual-MVC Design Pattern

Software maintenance and evolution are important processes in software development. Developers usually face issues in the process of maintaining and evaluating software. The common problem is software code not well structured and organized. This will have an impact on the difficulty of the process of maintaining and evolving software. Maintenance and evolution process is done in all types of applications. In this research, we focus on web-based applications. Web-based applications are chosen because the development of web-based applications is very evolving. One of the most widely used design patterns in web applications is the Model View Controller (MVC) design pattern. This research focuses on the model layer in web applications. Because this layer automatically changes if there is a change in the data structure or database. Therefore, to make the maintenance and evolution process easier, it is necessary to analyze and reorganize the model layer. In this study, we trying to group the functions on the model layer by looking at the similarity of table reference access in the query. For the analysis process of the reorganization of the function structure, we use DSM (Design Structural Matrix). in this research, we use DSM in a new field that is in the model layer on MVC based application. The preliminary result, the reorganization of the function structure provides better contex recommendations that following the reference table for each function.

The Model-View-Controller (MVC) architecture style separates software into models representing core functionality, views which display the models to the user, and controllers which let the user change the models. Although more sophisticated architectures have since been developed, MVC is interesting to explore because its simplicity makes it more acceptable to practitioners and it is beginning to become well-known in industry. However, MVC is rarely studied with regard to systems containing more than one domain model. Several issues are either ambiguous or missing in the literature. The distinction between views and controllers, the way model states are updated in a multiple-model architecture, and the creation of reusable domain-specific components. A program was developed to investigate these issues, and this paper documents the corresponding design decisions. MVC proved helpful in creating a multiple-model system with reusable components, although some weaknesses remain.

Design Patterns have gained more and more acceptances since their emerging in software development world last decade and become another de facto standard of essential knowledge for Object-Oriented Programming developers nowadays.

Spring MVC is the most popular Java web framework based on the Model-View-Controller (MVC) design pattern. Since the Spring 3.0 version, Spring MVC has provided annotation based request mapping capabilities using @Controller and @RequestMapping. But configuring Spring MVC web application components such as DispatcherServlet, ViewResolvers, MultiPartResolver, and ExceptionHandlers is a repetitive and tedious process.

This paper proposes a component-based design pattern for distributed automation programs. This design pattern aims to improve reusability of programs and reduce redevelopment time. Component-based design issues in both IEC 61131-3 and IEC 61499 platforms are analyzed. Then the design pattern is proposed in a form of a set of rules. The pattern combines properties of service-oriented architecture (SOA) with multi-layered organization and engineering benefits of component organization. This design pattern is applied to both IEC 61131-3 and IEC 61499 on example of a real airport baggage handling automation system. The result proves that the design pattern brings convenience for developers of automation programs and improves reusability of software components.

The Visitor pattern is a behavioral software design pattern where different objects represent an operation to be performed on elements of an object structure. Despite the benefits of the Visitor pattern, its rigid structure has limitations. Owing to the Visitor pattern's usefulness and importance to software design, many researchers have extended and modified the original Visitor pattern to overcome its limitations. Researchers have even replaced the Visitor pattern with more refined design patterns e.g., Reflective Visitor pattern, Java Walkabout Class, and Dynamic Dispatcher that bear minimal resemblance to the original Visitor pattern's structure while retaining its major advantages e.g., ability to add new operations to an object structure without changing the classes of objects, localizing related behavior, and accumulating state. This article therefore provides a comprehensive survey of the Visitor pattern for software practitioners. Within the survey, we focus on major enhancements that have been made to the original Visitor pattern to overcome its limitations. On the basis of our survey results, we found that variations of the Visitor pattern can be separated into two categories: extended Visitor patterns where the original Visitor pattern structure stays intact and alternative Visitor patterns where the structure of the original Visitor pattern is altered. This paper presents an approach to incorporating collaboration among process actors as a major construct for business process modeling. Furthermore collaboration is realized as a reusable software component. This provides today's workflow management systems with an opportunity to integrate collaboration with their existing process execution to realize full co-operation support for business process management. A collaboration-centric application framework based on a reusable collaboration component and a multi-agent platform is proposed. A description of how it was refined through use in a succession of applications used to trial team-working with various groups of mobile workers is included to show the usefulness and maturity of the approach. Finally some information is given in regards to the productisation of the enterprise mobilization platform of which the collaboration-centric application framework is a component.

A declarative approach to detecting design patterns from Java execution traces and source code

Studies indicate that information systems and computer science programs should place more emphasis on software design topics.Because little significant software in a commercial environment is developed using only programming skills,students without exposure to design patterns and frameworks will be ill-prepared for the workforce. This paper investigates whether PHP-based web development courses should use PHP frameworks to guide program development and how to select an appropriate framework. The paper begins with a literature review of the concept of design patterns, particularly the Model-View-Controller(MVC) pattern. We review studies that argue that design patterns and frameworks are essential pedagogical tools. Finally, we report on our work to select an appropriate framework for incorporation into web development courses as well as the process by which some of the major PHP MVC frameworks were assessed to determine which is best-suited for use in an academic environment.

Many regard widespread development and reuse of software components as one of the next biggest phenomena for software. However, widespread reuse of a software component with poor quality may lead to disasters. Improper reuse of software components of good quality may also be disastrous. Testing and quality assurance is therefore critical for both software components and component-based software systems. This tutorial provides an in-depth look at the technical issues, challenges, managerial aspects, and needs in testing of components and systems. Moreover, this tutorial reports on the recent advances and research efforts in developing new solutions to solve those problems and meet those needs, from the perspectives of component-based software engineering. The tutorial will discuss the state-of-the-art practice, issues, and challenges, new solutions and research efforts in third-party component testing, component-based program validation, and test automation. The targeted audience includes technical managers, software testing engineers, quality assurance people, and development engineers who are working on component-based software projects. The tutorial will be useful for professionals, researchers, and students interested in understanding the general concepts and methods in component testing and component-based software validation. This tutorial assumes that participants have a general understanding of software engineering and software testing methods, and have some working experience in software development and validation.

Web frameworks that allow developers to create applications based on design patterns such as the Model View Controller (MVC), provide by default a number of security checks. Nevertheless, by using specific constructs, developers may disable these checks thus re-introducing classic application vulnerabilities such as Cross-site Scripting (XSS) and Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF). Framework-specific elements including (1) the complex nature of these applications, (2) the different features that they involve (e.g. templates), and (3) the inheritance mechanisms that governs them, make the identification of such issues very difficult.To tackle this problem, we have developed Pythia, a scheme that analyzes applications based on the Django framework. To identify potentially dangerous data flows that can lead to XSS and CSRF defects, Pythia takes into account all the aforementioned elements and employs ideas coming from standard data-flow analysis and taint tracking schemes. To the best of our knowledge, Pythia is the first mechanism to consider framework-specific elements in its analysis. We have evaluated our scheme with positive results. Specifically, we used Pythia to examine five open-source applications that are currently in production and have thousands of users including an e-voting service, and a web-based translation management system. In four cases we have identified dangerous paths that in turn led to vulnerabilities. Notably, in many cases the paths involved the particular features of Django-based applications e.g. templates.

In this paper, we present a Workflow-based grId portal for problem Solving Environment(WISE) which has been developed by integrating workflow, Grid and web technology to provide an enhanced powerful approach for problem solving environment. Workflow technology supports coordinated execution of multiple application tasks on Grid resources by enabling users to describe a workflow by composing many existing applications and new functions, and provides an easy powerful tool to create new Grid applications. We propose new Grid portal to allow us to use Grid resources with improved workflow patterns to represent various parallelisms inherent in parallel and distributed Grid applications and present Grid Workflow Description Language(GWDL) to specify our new workflow patterns. The Model–View–Controller (MVC) design pattern is widely used in web development and ERP to separate data layer, presentation layer, and user interaction concerns. In recent years there have been many PHP frameworks available for web developers to choose from right one. Developers face difficulty in choosing the relevant frameworks and appropriate support functions with libraries to include in their projects. For this reason, a clear understanding of the various frameworks is now becoming an important requirement for web developers. In this paper, we studied several research papers talking about different PHP frameworks, and we compared them with each other for result. In PHP, there are several MVC frameworks available that provide a structured approach to developing web applications. The purpose of this research paper is to explore and review some of the popular MVC frameworks for web development in PHP.

Client-Server (C/S) application is always used in the existing Human Resource Management System (HRMS) as the system architecture, which has the problems of complex maintenance and poor compatibility; and cannot use professional database and development system, making the system development difficult and the data security low. To solve the above problems, the overall demand is analyzed, as well as feasibility and key technologies of the enterprise HRMS system. Then a HRMS is designed and developed, based on the user’s key functional requirements and related technologies, which is reasonable and easy to maintain. The system is supported by Browser-Server (B/S) structure, with the current popular Java 2 Platform Enterprise Edition (J2EE) multi-level structure as the overall architecture. The mature Microsoft SQL Server 2008 introduced by Microsoft is used as the database platform. Combined with Model View Controller (MVC) design pattern, this system can be used by users without geographical restrictions and system maintenance. In this system, performance logic and business logic are separated, which makes it convenient for the development and maintenance of the system. The system mainly includes six modules: personnel management, organizational management, recruitment management, training management, salary management and system management, which integrates enterprise information and realizes the functions of easy access and easy query of information database. Its interface is simple, easy to understand, and easy to operate, with low investment, low cost, high safety, good performance and easy maintenance, which help to improve the work efficiency and modern management level of enterprises. In the end, the operation performance of the system is tested. The results show that the throughput of the main functional modules in the system is greater than 100 times/s when dealing with the business, and the success rate of event processing is greater than 99%. The average response time of the business end is less than 0.4 s, and the average response time of the terminal side is less than 0.5 s, which all meet the standards. System CPU occupancy rate can be basically controlled below 30%, and memory usage rate is below 30%. In summary, the system designed here has the basic functions but also to ensure good performance, suitable for enterprise personnel management, organizational management, recruitment management, training management and salary management. The design and development of this system aims to provide technical support for the service quality of enterprise human resource management business, to improve the overall efficiency, promote the pace of enterprise strategic development, and enhance the market competitiveness of enterprises.

Web services are interoperable and reusable software components that can be dynamically discovered and integrated over the Internet. Developed on open standards, Web services have become a promising solution to inter- and intra-organization application integration. The supply chain of Web services exhibits two distinct features that are not considered in previous literature on information and physical-good supply chain: the integration of multiple Web services and the cross-network externality effect between Web service vendors and users. In a quest to fill in the research gap, this paper studies the optimal pricing strategies of a monopolistic intermediary in the supply chain of complementary Web services. The Web service intermediary (WSI) provides both technical and aggregation services, and seeks to charge optimal subscription and listing fees. Analytical results show that in a supply chain of complementary Web services exhibiting cross-network effects, the optimal strategy for the WSI is to set the listing fee such that all service providers list on it. On the other hand, the optimal subscription fee depends on the intensity of the cross-network effect, consumers' valuation of value-added services, and the characteristics of the Web services under consideration.
