Developing Students’ Interest In Learning English Through Digital Learning Platform

Digitale læringsplatforme forventes anvendt i alle fag i skolen i stadig større grad, men dette synes ikke altid meningsfuldt i praktisk-musiske fag, hvor der snarere arbejdes praktisk, kropsligt og analogt end digitalt. Som deltagende skole i det større projekt om Anvendelse af Digitale Læringsplatforme i Folkeskolen eksperimenterede en gruppe lærere med en digital læringsplatform i blandt andet musik samt håndværk og design med henblik på at lade platformen bidrage til løsninger på udfordringer i undervisningen frem for at lade den være omdrejningspunktet for projektet. Denne artikel beskriver og diskuterer på baggrund af disse eksperimenter, hvordan lærere i folkeskolen kan inddrage en digital læringsplatform på meningsfulde måder i praktisk-musiske fag. 
 Artiklen bidrager med narrativer og casebeskrivelser af disse it-didaktiske design, og de belyses gennem lærernes observationer og evalueringer af eksperimenterne med den digitale læringsplatform. Artiklen introducerer og diskuterer endvidere begrebet om "den digitalt fordoblede lærer" og peger på, hvordan en sådan med fordel kan inddrages i klasser, hvor elever har brug for gentagelse, øvelse og fysisk tilstedevær fra lærerens side.

As a compulsory subject for the college entrance examination in China, English learning has always been highly valued. With the development of educational concepts and technologies, there is an increasing amount of research on English education. However, most studies are conducted from the perspectives of teachers and parents. There is relatively little direct investigation into students' learning motivation and interests. Through a questionnaire survey, this paper mainly studies the motivation of junior high school students to learn English. The questionnaire was directly distributed to middle school students for filling out. Also, students have different motivations for learning English. Most students (60%) enjoy English, but a considerable portion (around 30%) learn English just because it is a compulsory course. At the same time, many students listen to English songs and watch English TV dramas/movies. In addition, about 58% students hope that the teacher can teach more extracurricular English knowledge. Therefore, more emphasis could be placed on enhancing students' interest in learning in English teaching. Moreover, teachers can make appropriate use of extracurricular English materials, such as English pop songs or film and television works, as teaching tools to enhance students’ interest in learning and teaching outcomes.

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of using digital learning platforms as communication media in Islamic education with a focus on Generation Z teachers at PB. Soedirman Islamic High School, Jakarta. This generation is known as digital natives who are highly adaptive to information technology. The research method used is a case study with a qualitative approach, involving interviews, participatory observation, and surveys. The results show that Generation Z teachers at PB. Soedirman Islamic High School, Jakarta feel comfortable and helped by the use of digital learning platforms for communication and learning. These platforms enable faster and more efficient communication. However, some challenges were also found, such as limitations in conveying messages clearly and the risk of information overload. Factors affecting the effectiveness of communication through digital platforms were identified, including Teachers' technological competence, platform design, organizational culture, and adequate training and support. This research is consistent with technology acceptance theory which states that perceived ease of use and usefulness have a significant effect on technology acceptance. The results of this study provide practical implications to optimize the use of digital learning platforms through continuous training, intuitive platform design, and digital culture support in the organization. Thus, digital platforms can improve the performance and job satisfaction of Generation Z teachers.

The purpose of this study is to determine pre-service mathematics teachers’ views on digital learning platforms, the extent to which these platforms are integrated into teaching and assessment processes, the usability of digital learning platforms in teaching and assessment processes, pre-service mathematics teachers’ thoughts on the contributions of digital learning platforms to mathematics education and the problems they encounter when using digital learning platforms. This study is important in terms of helping to determine the necessary strategies and educational policies to support the integration of digital learning platforms into teaching and assessment processes, understanding the potential of digital learning platforms in mathematics teaching and identifying important considerations for improving teaching practices. It also aims to contribute to finding solutions to the problems encountered. In the context of 21st-century skills, including technological skills and digital literacy, it is important to determine pre-service mathematics teachers’ knowledge levels about these skills during their professional preparation process and to reveal their opinions about digital learning platforms, which are considered to play a significant role in developing these skills in middle school students. In this research, a case study design, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used. The study group consists of 68 fourth-year students from the elementary mathematics teaching program at the faculties of education of state universities located in Aydın, Denizli and Kars. Data for the study were collected through a semi-structured interview form consisting of 8 open-ended questions. The data obtained from the data collection process were analyzed using content analysis, a qualitative analysis method. According to the findings of the research, pre-service mathematics teachers prefer the question-and-answer technique the most in teaching. They define digital learning platforms as web-based/online environments and use platforms such as GeoGebra/Desmos and Educational Informatics Network. These pre-service teachers integrate digital learning platforms into teaching and assessment processes and use these platforms because they are engaging and enjoyable. They decide on the platform selection based on the subject and learning outcomes. Additionally, they state that digital platforms are useful in visualizing abstract concepts. However, internet and infrastructure inadequacies are expressed as significant obstacles in the use of digital platforms.

Grit, a non-cognitive skill that indicates perseverance and passion for long-term goals, has been shown to predict academic achievement. This paper provides evidence that grit also predicts student outcomes during the challenging period of the Covid-19 pandemic. We use a unique dataset from a digital learning platform in the United Arab Emirates to construct a behavioral measure of grit. We find that controlling for baseline achievement, students who were grittier according to this measure before the pandemic, register lower declines in math and science scores during the coronavirus period. Using machine learning, behavioral data obtained from the platform prior to the pandemic can explain 77% of the variance in academic resilience. A survey measure of grit coming from the same students, on the other hand, does not have significant predictive power over performance changes. Our findings have implications for interventions on non-cognitive skills, as well as how data from digital learning platforms can be used to predict student behavior and outcomes, which we expect will be increasingly relevant as AI-based learning technologies become more common.

The 2023 Education Statistics data shows that 5.14% of elementary school students/equivalent had to repeat their education, one of the reasons being the inability to complete the lessons. The ARCS Keller learning method which provides a systematic and comprehensive approach can be an initiative step in stimulating interest and motivation in learning. This research is a case study conducted on 3 fifth-grade students at SDN Kotalama 5 who met the inclusion criteria with the aim of determining the description of students' interest and motivation in learning before and after learning using the learning module with the ARCS Keller approach. The instruments used were the Course Interest Survey (CIS) to determine the level of student interest in learning and the Teaching Materials Motivation Survey (IMMS) to determine the extent of student motivation in learning as well as observation sheets and interviews to obtain supporting data. All data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive methods. The results showed an increase in the average value of learning interest by 12.45% and learning motivation by 11.34%, followed by positive changes in attitudes in participating in learning. The use of learning modules with the ARCS Keller approach can increase students' interest and motivation in learning by helping students concentrate better, understand the material well, think critically, have self-confidence and achieve satisfaction in learning.

In the learning process, motivation has an important role because motivation can foster interest in learning. This research will be conducted on semester 1 students of the Islamic Religious Education study program at IAIN Palopo with the aim of describing student motivation in learning English and the factors that influence student motivation in learning English. This research is a descriptive research, which describes existing events by combining quantitative and qualitative. Data collection techniques are questionnaires, observations, and interviews. The subjects of this study were first semester students of the Islamic Religious Education study program who took Basic English courses. The results showed that second semester students of Islamic Religious Education had high motivation in learning English, which consisted of internal and external factors

Interest and motivation is one of the supporting components so that students are able to produce quality learning outcomes. Motivation and interest ultimately have a significant impact on learning outcomes. This study aims to determine the effect of learning motivation and interest in learning on the learning outcomes of students, especially in the era of independent learning. The research method used is quantitative. The population and sample in this study were students from three schools totaling 105 people. The research instrument used was a questionnaire about learning motivation, interest in learning and student learning outcomes tests. Analysis of the data used in this study is quantitative analysis with the help of SPSS. The results showed that there was an influence between interest and motivation on learning outcomes. For teachers should be able to generate interest and motivation of students. A teacher in delivering lessons must be able to make students happy in learning. With the interest and motivation that arises, great effort is made to learn the lesson, and it is hoped that students will get good learning outcomes. Teachers need to pay close attention to students so that they have good interest and motivation in learning so that in the end the desired learning outcomes are achieved

The study aimed to find out the influence of Quizizz as a learning media towards student learning motivation in English learning among tenth grade students at MAN 1 Surakarta during the 2023/2024 academic year. A quantitative method was used with a One Group PretestPosttest design, with 26 students selected through random sampling method. Data was collected through pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire. The researcher used a paired sample t-test formula and SPSS 16 application to analyze the data. The results showed a significant influence of Quizizz on student motivation in English learning. The t-test resulted in a tcount value of 37,787, which was greater than the ttable at a 5% significance level of 2,060. Therefore, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. The study highlights the importance of using Quizizz as a learning media for English learning among tenth grade students. Keywords: Quizizz, Learning Media, Learning Motivation, Learning English.

<p>This research aimed to find out there is correlation between students’ motivation in learning English and their reading comprehension students of SMPN 2 Lembah Melintang. The research methodology was quantitative research by using correlational method. The population of this research was eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Lembah Melintang. The samples of this research were 30 students of SMPN 2 Lembah Melintang used simple random sampling. The instruments of this research students’ motivation questionnaire and reading comprehension test. After analyze the data used statistic calculation, the results of this research showed that there was positive significant correlation between the students’ motivation in learning English and their reading comprehension at the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Lembah Melintang. Which rvalue = 0,963> rtable 5% = 0,361.</p>

This research study examines the impact of digital learning platforms and student engagement on academic achievement among secondary school students in Bandung. The study used a sample of 500 students from different schools representing different grade levels and socio-economic backgrounds. Data were collected through survey questionnaires and academic achievement measures obtained from school records. Descriptive, correlation, and regression analyses were conducted to analyze the data. The results showed a positive relationship between the use of digital learning platforms and student engagement. Students who used digital learning platforms more frequently showed higher levels of engagement. In addition, student engagement was found to positively affect academic achievement, suggesting that more engaged students tend to achieve better academic achievement. Regression analysis showed that digital learning platforms and student engagement significantly predicted academic achievement. After controlling for other factors, digital learning platforms accounted for 25% of the variance in academic achievement, while student engagement accounted for 15% of the variance. These findings highlight the combined effects of digital learning platforms and student engagement on academic achievement. The findings of this study have important implications for educational practice. Educators can utilize digital learning platforms to increase student engagement and improve academic outcomes. Policy makers should consider providing the necessary resources and infrastructure to ensure equitable access to digital learning platforms. Further research is recommended to explore strategies and best practices to optimize student engagement and maximize the potential of digital learning platforms.

This study aims to examine the impact of strengthening digital literacy on students' interest in learning and academic abilities in Natural and Social Science (IPAS) education. Digital literacy is an essential competency in facing educational challenges in the digital era, particularly in enhancing concept comprehension and critical and analytical thinking skills. This research uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design and a pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group. The subjects of the study consisted of 102 students from four classes at MI Nasyiatul Mubtadiin Duwet Wates Kediri. The experimental group received treatment through strengthening digital literacy using interactive media, digital learning platforms, and online information navigation training, while the control group followed conventional learning. The instruments used were cognitive ability tests and a learning interest questionnaire. Data were analyzed using a t-test to compare the results between the experimental and control groups. The findings revealed significant differences between the pretest and posttest scores of the experimental group compared to the control group in terms of both learning interest and academic ability. Strengthening digital literacy plays a crucial role in creating an engaging, interactive learning environment that encourages active student participation. In conclusion, strengthening digital literacy in IPAS education has a positive effect on students' learning interest and academic abilities. In the English online independent learning environment, massive information, relatively unfamiliar learning media, and an open learning environment bring certain interference to students’ learning, and the strength of learning motivation will directly affect the effect of online independent learning. This paper utilizes structural equation modeling to explore the influencing factors of English learning motivation and their effects in the online English environment and dynamically adjusts the motivation mechanism through real-time monitoring and feedback of online English learning. At the same time, the method of independent sample t-test is applied to verify the actual impact of the mechanism in this paper on motivation for learning. Learning interest has a negative and highly significant effect on learning anxiety and learning anxiety on self-efficacy, while learning interest has a positive and highly significant effect on self-efficacy and self-efficacy motivation (P<0.001), and learning interest and learning anxiety indirectly affect motivation through the mediating path. There is a highly significant difference (P<0.001) between the experimental group using the learning motivation mechanism of this paper and the control group using traditional teaching methods in terms of online English learning achievement and overall achievement. The difference in learning motivation between the two groups of students before the experiment is not significant (P>0.05), but after the experiment, it is significant (P<0.05). This paper suggests that the learning motivation mechanism enhances the learning motivation of the experimental group, leading to an improvement in their comprehensive English scores.

Foreign language skills are needed to be able to compete internationally, so the role of English in education is expected to improve the quality of human resources as one of the pillars of education. Improving the quality of human resources is meant to start earlier, namely for the elementary school students. The Community Service (PkM) activities at elementary schools in central Maluku aims to (a) find out students' motivation in learning English, and (b) find out English knowledge at the elementary school level at the level of words and themes that become students' interest in learning. The results of PkM activities by applying learning while playing methods: word play, short sentences, and sentence dictation (Indonesian sentences, written in English and vice versa) indicate that the majority of students have motivation in learning English, it can be proven through the active role of students in the teaching and learning process and students' enthusiasm in answering questions given by the teacher. While student’s knowledge of English shows that the number of students who could fill in the words in the table according to the number given (50 words in 15-20 minutes) was very minimum (4 pairs from a total of 20 pairs or 20%). Further, students could write words with varied topics/themes. The most popular topics were animals (animals) and colors (colors), and also students were able to write simple Indonesian sentences into English or vice versa.

In today's globalized world, English has become a world-wide-used language. However, for many students, learning English can become a tedious task. Therefore, how to increase students' interest in learning English has become an important teaching challenge. This article will explore some effective methods and strategies to help teachers stimulate students' interest in learning English.
