Drug use model investigation based on BP neural network and decision tree

For a university student, the main measure of success is whether or not they pass the modules for which they are enrolled. It is not always easy for a lecturer to determine whether or not a student will be successful as there may be various factors on which the final result of a student depends. Applying rules or common insights might aid a lecturer in identifying students who are struggling in a specific module. This may afford the lecturer the opportunity to devise an intervention; so as to enhance the chances of the student passing the module. To facilitate the gathering of information on which to base possible student academic interventions, this study makes use of an artificial neural network and decision tree to derive a series of insights and rules which a lecturer may use to identify struggling students. The artificial neural network and decision tree are both trained using supervised learning techniques. Individually, both the neural network and decision tree have an accuracy in excess of 77% and a sensitivity in excess of 83% on a test data set. Both models show a moderate level of agreement with a pre-labelled dataset.

Heart disease is one of the leading cause deaths of worldwide. Prediction of cardiovascular infection is a critical challenge in the area of clinical data analysis. Data mining techniques are providing an effective decision and significant results on data that are used widely for predicting. The purpose of this paper is to propose a novel approach with aims to find a noteworthy method to diagnose heart disease prediction. In this research, a unique dataset was created by combining the Cleveland dataset and Stalog heart disease datasets collected from the UCI ML repository. The new dataset contains 14 medical parameters such as age, sex, blood pressure, and 568 instances for training and prediction heart disease. This paper offers a novel methodology of NNDT (Neural Network and Decision Tree) that uses Neural Network for training model and Decision Tree to test classification for better heart disease prediction. The performance of the proposed approach have been compared with Naive Bayes, Support Vector Machine, Neural Network, Voted Perceptron, and Decision Tree algorithms. The results showed that the accuracy and performance improved as compared to other techniques and methods. This study enables the researchers to analyze the heart disease data with a new approach to predict heart diseases to maintain human health.

At present, patients whose have suffered from stroke in Thailand are increasing every year. Stroke impairments relate to many functions such as sensory, motor function, communication, visual and emotional function which depend on brain's lesion. Physical examinations and assessments are important for planning the rehabilitation programs. For this reason, there are several information for medical decision making. Missing some data for treatment planning may occur. To solve this problem, the proposed study used two algorithms to determine the proper rehabilitation treatment program. Artificial Neural Networks and Decision Trees models were considered. Sensitivity, specificity and accuracy values were computed to define the performance of both algorithms. The results of this study indicated that both techniques can apply for data classification and define the proper treatment programs. However, the results were shown that the specificity and accuracy of decision trees model were higher than neural network model.

In this paper we enhance the notion of anomaly detection and use both neural network (NN) and decision tree (DT) for intrusion detection. While DTs are highly successful in detecting known attacks, NNs are more interesting to detect new attacks. In our method we proposed a new approach to design the system using both DT and combination of unsupervised and supervised NN for Intrusion Detection System (IDS). By applying DT known attacks would be recognized with a quick execution time. Unknown attacks would be detected by applying the unsupervised NN based on hybrid of Self Organizing Map (SOM) for clustering attacks into smaller categories and supervised NN based on Backpropagation for detailed clustering.

The modeling and predicting of vegetation Leaf area index (LAI) is an important component of land surface model and assimilation of remote sensing data. The MODIS LAI product (i.e. MOD15A2) is one of the most widely used LAI data sources. However, the time series of MODIS LAI contains some data of low quality. For example, because of the influence of the cloud, aerosol, etc., the MODIS LAI presents the characteristics of the discontinuous in time and space. In fact, the time series of MODIS LAI include both linear and nonlinear components, which cannot be accurately modeled and predicted by either linear method or nonlinear method alone. In this paper, the original LAI time series data were first smoothed with Savitzky-Golay (SG) filtration and linear interpolation; SARIMA, BP neural network and a hybrid method of SARIMA-BP neural network were then used for modeling and predicting MODIS LAI time series. The SARIMA-BP neural network combined both SARIMA and BP neural network, which could model the linear and the nonlinear component of MODIS LAI time series respectively. That is, the final result of SARIMA-BP neural network was the sum of results of the two methods. Experiments showed that the time series of MODIS LAI that were smoothed with the SG filtration and linear interpolation were more smooth than original time series, with a determination coefficient up to 0.981, closer to 1 than that of SARIMA (0.941) and BP neural network (0.884); the correlation coefficient between SARIMA-BP neural network and the observation is 0.991, higher than that of between SARIMA (0.971) or BP neural network (0.942) SARIMA and the observation. Thus, it can be concluded that, the proposed SARIMA-BP neural network method can better adapt to the LAI time series, and it outperforms the SARIMA and BP neural network methods.

Predictive systems use historical and other available data to predict an event. In this paper we tries to compare the power of Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Decision Tree (DT) in prediction of aerology events with time series streams and events stream using combination of K-means clustering algorithm and Decision Tree C5 algorithm and ANN. We try to find the effective parameters on events occurrences. Firstly, we find the closest time series record for any events; therefore, we have gathered different parameters value when an event is occurring. Using K-means we add a field to dataset which determines the cluster of each record and after that we predict the events using C5 algorithm and ANN. This framework and time series model can predict future events efficiently. We gathered 1961 until 2005 data of aerology organization for Tehran Mehrabad Station. This data contains some fields such as wet bulb, relative humidity, amount of cloud, wind speed and etc. This dataset includes 17 types of events. Using this framework the closest event can be predicted. The C5 method is able to predict events with 79.55% accuracy and ANN with 72.87% accuracy. Applying K-means clustering algorithm the prediction increase to 94.59% for C5 and 92.66% accuracies for ANN. We use 10-fold cross validation to evaluate our prediction rate. This framework is the first estimation in the area of event prediction for a huge dataset of aerology and can be extended in many different datasets in any other environments.

Machine learning algorithms are used to analyze medical data sets effectively in present. Today machine learning gives us several necessary tools for intelligent data analysis and research. Especially in very recent years, the digital world has provided relatively inexpensive and available means to collect and store the data. The main aim is to implement supervised machine learning concept by using datasets regarding blood cells collected from blood cells detecting and counting sensors, of a human as the input which is trained by artificial neural network algorithm and apply decision tree classification learning algorithm to perform classification which results in recognizing and also possibly predict the disease based on the nature of blood cells and classify accordingly. Artificial Neural network algorithm seems to avoid pruning problem and has higher efficiency and accuracy in training the datasets. Also the using of Decision tree is because they are easy to interpret, understand and also possess non-linear characteristics between values. This holds well the performance of the tree constructed which gives better outputs. Beside all the application developed using machine learning in day today life, the use of such learning algorithm in such medical application will enhance and benefit the medical field.

A Comparison of Predicting Movie Success between Artificial Neural Network and Decision Tree

In Multi-sensor data fusion technology, array processing is an area of signal processing. A sensor array captures spatially propagating signals arriving from a certain direction and processes them to obtain useful information. To this end, it is intended to linearly combine the signals from all the sensors with coefficients in a manner, so as to estimate transmitted data radiating from a specific direction. In beamforming, an array processor steers a beam to a certain direction by computing a properly weighted sum of the individual sensor signals just as an finite impulse response (FIR) filter generates an output (at a frequency of interest) that is the weighted sum of time samples. Current methods to calculate the weight coefficients are complex. Designed model is a simple and effective weight coefficient calculation method based on improved decision tree model where it combines the best features of neural network and decision trees. This technique is based on the optimum beamformer and makes it robust to an faulty estimate of the Direction Of Arrival (DOA) even when powerful interferences are within the uncertainty range of the desired source. The proposed algorithm is the product of an effort to provide more efficient procedure for real time implementation of array signal processing and is useful for wireless communication with Binary Phase Shift Keying signalling.

Abstract: Customer retention is a critical issue for the survival of any business in today's competitive marketplace. In this paper, we propose a dynamic procedure utilizing self-organizing maps and a Markov process for detecting and preventing customer defection that uses data of past and current customer behavior. The basic concept originates from empirical observations that identified that a customer has a tendency to change behavior (i.e. trim-out usage volumes) before eventual withdrawal and defection. Our explanatory model predicts when potential defectors are likely to withdraw. Two strategies are suggested to respond to the question of where to lead potential defectors for the next stage, based on anticipating when the potential defector will leave. Our model predicts potential defectors with little deterioration of prediction accuracy compared with that of the multilayer perceptron neural network and decision trees. Moreover, it performs reasonably well in a controlled experiment using an online game.

In this article, the authors proposed the method of medical diagnosis in gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in the initial stages of pregnancy to facilitate diagnoses and prevent the affection. Nowadays, in industrial modern world with changing lifestyle alimental manner the incidence of complex disease has been increasingly grown. GDM is a chronic disease and one of the major health problems that is often diagnosed in middle or late period of pregnancy, when it is too late for prediction. If it is not treated, it will make serious complications and various side effects for mother and child. This article is designed for answering to the question of: “What is the best approach in timely and accurate prediction of GDM?” Thus, the artificial neural network and decision tree are proposed to reduce the amount of error and the level of accuracy in anticipating and improving the precision of prediction. The results illustrate that intelligent diagnosis systems can improve the quality of healthcare, timely prediction, prevention, and knowledge discovery in bioinformatics.

This work presents a new technique for the identification of multiple power quality disturbances in industrial power systems. This new technique is developed based on change detection filter (CDF) and machine intelligence techniques like the local linear radial basis function neural network (LLRBFNN) and decision tree (DT). The proposed change detection filter has been designed in one cycle back fashion for the multiple non–stationary transient power signal disturbances for localisation, and feature extraction. The extracted features are fed as inputs to either a LLRBFNN or a decision tree–based classifier (DTC) for characterisation of the power quality events. The performance of LLRBFNN and DTC are evaluated and compared with local linear wavelet neural network (LLWNN), wavelet neural network (WNN), radial basis function neural network (RBFNN), etc., to highlight the superior performance of the proposed classifiers.

Nowadays, expert systems being used in various fields have received a great deal of attention. Auditing is one such field, along with determining the audit opinion type. An expert system consists of a knowledge database and an inference engine. The objective of this research is to make an expert system that will be of help to auditors in predicting and determining the different types of audit reports. The expert system receives data or knowledge from financial reports and determines the types of audit opinions by using an artificial neural network and a decision tree as an inference engine. An expert system should be able to explain the solution, but presenting the reason for the results obtained with a neural network is difficult. This study attempts to provide a method that will present simple and understandable reasons for the results obtained with neural networks.

To reduce complexity in design of fault diagnosis system for large scale equipments, a hybrid feature selection algorithm is put forth. By introduction of Markov Blanket, reluctant features can be effectively eliminated to decrease the feature space for input parameters of diagnosis system design. An improved Chl-Square method with introduction of frequency, distribution and concentration is adopted to improve the relevance evaluation performance of the Markov Blanket. The hybrid feature selection algorithm showed high performance in design and implementation of an aero-engine automatic fault diagnosis system based on both neural network and decision tree.

With the rapid economic growth, air quality continues to decline. High-intensity pollution emissions and unfavorable weather conditions are the key factors for the formation and development of air heavy pollution processes. Given that research into air quality prediction generally ignore pollutant emission information, in this paper, the random forest supervised learning algorithm is used to construct an air quality prediction model for Zhangdian District with industrial waste gas daily emissions and meteorological factors as variables. The training data include the air quality index (AQI) values, meteorological factors and industrial waste gas daily emission of Zhangdian District from 1st January 2017 to 30th November 2019. The data from 1st to 31th December 2019 is used as the test set to assess the model. The performance of the model is analysed and compared with the backpropagation (BP) neural network, decision tree, and least squares support vector machine (LSSVM) function, which has better overall prediction performance with an RMSE of 22.91 and an MAE of 15.80. Based on meteorological forecasts and expected air quality, a daily emission limit for industrial waste gas can be obtained using model inversion. From 1st to 31th December 2019, if the industrial waste gas daily emission in this area were decreased from 6048.5 million cubic meters of waste gas to 5687.5 million cubic meters, and the daily air quality would be maintained at a good level. This paper deeply explores the dynamic relationship between waste gas daily emissions of industrial enterprises, meteorological factors, and air quality. The meteorological conditions are fully utilized to dynamically adjust the exhaust gas emissions of key polluting enterprises. It not only ensures that the regional air quality is in good condition, but also promotes the in-depth optimization of the procedures of regional industrial enterprises, and reduces the conflict between environmental protection and economic development.
