Energy Modeling in Architectural Design

With the big data of social development, the development of my country’s construction industry has gradually transitioned from a development model that simply pursues scale and speed to a new stage that focuses on urban development and people’s needs. The traditional way of expressing buildings in two-dimensional planes can no longer meet people’s needs for integrated interior design of buildings. In this regard, the purpose of this article is to conduct innovative research on architectural interior design models in the context of big data. This article first starts from reality, combs the representative domestic and international architectural interior design planning theories, and explores architectural interior design models suitable for domestic project construction. This paper proposes an integrated model of building interior design based on big data technology. This paper aims at the expression of the three-dimensional model of the building interior, combined with BIM technology, designing the architectural spatial information model from the perspective of concept and logic. For the designed building space information model, this paper starts from the traditional plane CAD data, and conducts big data research on the simplified algorithm of CAD data. Secondly, it builds the model of the special building components of the research object, and then realizes the interior design model Construct. Experimental results show that the architectural interior design model proposed in this paper can effectively manage and analyze interior design, and people’s satisfaction with design has increased by about 25%, meeting people’s needs, and providing an important reference for architectural interior design.KeywordsBig data technologyArchitectural interior design modeBIM technologyCAD data

A domain-based fast feature modeling approach was proposed. Inspired by the approach of Domain Engineering in software engineering, for a particular field of feature modeling design, this approach is on how to use the knowledge of such field to improve geometric modeling system. As a result, the entire efficiency of the geometric modeling system was improved by optimizing software architecture and algorithm design. Base on this novel method, the demand of geometric modeling in Computer-Aided Architectural Design (CAAD) was discussed, and a system framework for domain-based geometric modeling was created. Several examples of this method in industry modeling design and digital entertainment fields prove the effective.

Research into design rationale in the past has focused on the representation of reasons and has omitted the connections between design rationales and design artefacts. Without such connections, designers and architects cannot easily assess how changing requirements or designs may affect the system. In this paper, we introduce a model called Architecture Rationale and Element Linkage (AREL) to represent the causal relationship between architecture elements and decisions. We further model AREL as a Bayesian Belief Network (BBN) to capture the probabilistic relationships between architecture elements and decisions in an architecture design model. Such probabilistic modelling enables architects to quantitatively predict and diagnose impact of change when part of the requirements or designs are changing. Using a partial design of a cheque image processing system, we illustrate how AREL is used to represent the decision model and how BBN is used to predict and diagnose change in the architecture design. We use a UML tool to capture the AREL model and a BBN tool to compute the probabilities of change impact.

Analysis of Innovative Application of Digital Modeling Technology Based on Digital Modeling in Architectural Space Design

Planning information generated during initial architectural design phases significantly influences subsequent phases, and is implemented into architectural design models during the design process. However, failures to manage and use planning information in Korean design offices remain common. Current design tools that incorporate planning information also do not address the issue of interoperability during the life cycles of buildings. To address these problems, the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) extension model was developed to accommodate the need to manage and use planning information for cooperation between design offices carrying out multidisciplinary tasks. This paper introduces a purpose-built software tool that implements the IFC model and demonstrates the efficiency of the proposed method with the software tool.

Under the background of the rapid development of information technology and Internet globalization, the buildings and cities that people depend on have undergone earth-shaking changes, and architectural design tools and design models are constantly updated. Architecture is unique. The method continues to expand its development space. Construction engineering is a complex and large-scale dynamic system, which involves not only many but also more complicated links. Because there are complex structures inside general buildings. This article focuses on the application of virtual reality technology in architectural engineering design from the basic concepts and characteristics of virtual reality.

Purpose: Passive design strategies are critical to achieve zero energy consumption. Since hospitals are one of the most energy-consuming buildings, precise strategies are needed for its efficient medical planning, infection control, and well connection of functional spaces. This research analyzes the passive design elements for hospitals in an architectural design stage. Method: Analysis of research papers for the hospitals extracts the passive design elements related to architectural space and design. Result: The seven key passive design elements for a hospital design are established. 1. The shape of the hospital is related to the location of departments. 2. Optimization of the size of the sun shade device in a patient room considering the daylight factor and the energy-saving. 3. Relationship between the mass shapes and the orientation of the inpatient tower. 4. Adequate Window to Wall Ratio(WWR) for a patient room. 5. Consideration of the corridor type and daylighting for the inpatient tower. 6. Patient room configurations depend on the bathroom location. 7. Natural ventilation using internal and external shafts.

In view of current developments in the theory and technology of digital design, potential novel directions for environments that support performance-based design are beginning to emerge. The field of performance-based design is defined through an analysis of current work in the field. Various models of performance-based architectural design are presented and discussed. On the basis of this analysis, key concepts and issues in the application of performance-based design in architecture are defined and certain research directions for the development of new approaches are presented. Finally we propose a new approach termed: Performative Design. Performative Design suggests that in creating simulation environments for performance-based architectural design both generative and evaluative capabilities can be integrated within performance-based simulations. The potential of performance-based simulation as a model of performance-based design is explored through a case study from an experimental digital design studio. Implication of this work on future research directions in the field is explicated.

Growing interest in development of innovative solutions for enhancement of sustainability in the built environments has been observed in recent years. According to the main constituents of buildings particularly in building envelopes, faca des are expected to play a significant role towards the promotion of sustainable design in low energy buildings. This study presents a holistic review towards the analysis ofintelligent facadesaccording to their types, current implementations, challeng es, and ultimate impacts.Intelligent facades need to be responsive and conscious to the local climate, outdoor environment, and indoor spaces with view to parameters such as energy performance, thermal comfort, indoor air quality, visual comfort, etc. The findings demonstrate that energy modeling and simulations should be performed during the early stage of design process of buildings to ensure the practicality and effectiveness of any green implementations in buildings. In conclusion, the study recommendsthe intelligent facades to become an inherent constituent of green buildings for future development of low energy buildings.

Purpose This research purpose was to explore the meaning of historicism, architectural historicism, the architectural attributes, design principles, elements and ornamentations of churches in medieval Western architecture, and how they were reflected in contemporary churches' design in Jordan. Design/methodology/approach This research used the historical descriptive–interpretive qualitative research method. Around 24 Western medieval churches were selected, studied and analyzed to explore the common design attributes of each historical era. The design attributes of each era were segmented under three categories: Design principles (plans' typology, facades, shapes, details, composition and building form), design elements (openings, towers and entrances) and ornamentation (sculptures, paintings and interior decoration). Additionally, three modern Jordanian churches were analyzed using the same method to compare with the historical churches through personal observations, field trips, researchers' memories, site visits, archival records, plans, images, books, slides, details and note-making. Different types of evidence were used, such as determinate, contextual and inferential. In addition, different tactics for analysis were used in analyzing the historical churches: site familiarity, use of existing documents, virtual and visual inspection and comparison with conditions elsewhere. Credibility was achieved when the results were reviewed and compared with the original and similar information. Findings Early Christian design principles, elements and ornamentations were reflected in Jordanian churches more than in Byzantine, Renaissance, Romanesque and Gothic. The design principles of Western medieval architecture were reflected in the selected Jordanian churches more than in ornamentation and design elements. Moreover, this research found that the highest reflection of Western medieval architecture on Jordanian churches was in designing the plans, which is a basilica with a central nave and aisles followed by opening styles, façade, shapes, entrances design, composition, painting and the minimum reflection was in sculptures. Additionally, there was no reflection on tower design and interior decoration. Practical implications This research encourages architects to enhance architectural historicism by focusing on historical styles in contemporary designs and using design elements, principles and decorations of historical styles in medieval architecture to enrich the variety and originality of architectural design and create new modern stylistic architecture. Architectural historicism increases historical self-awareness and helps a generation of architects to answer the question: In what style should be built. Originality/value Learning the design principles, not copying the past, is becoming a trend for most architects. Architectural historicism introduces new temporal elements, gives a new meaning and primary function to architecture to become socio-temporal and contextual contrast and reflects the essential points of references of the past through design methodology to express the present. The advantage of this research is to put an end to architects' role in syncretism and subjectivism. Instead, historicism architects equipped with the necessary knowledge and supported by the published research and inventors of historical architecture, can choose, imitate, adapt, borrow and use the correct historical forms that originated in a given period.

Information exchange between architectural design models and Thermal Energy Simulation (TES) tools still suffers from interoperability problems. The main challenge is to robustly translate the geometrical information required for TES. The current practice involves a cumbersome and iterative manual correction of the model between the architect and the engineer, which is prone to human errors. Interpreting the geometry solely based on the IFC file is not a trivial process due to its complex nature, in which different attributes are cross-linked to each other. To address this issue, an approach based on the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is proposed, which aims to provide straightforward readability of geometrical information as well as a reliable and flexible thermal simulation. To demonstrate this approach, an IFC model of a residential building was transferred to a commercial FEA software and thermal analysis was conducted. Interoperability problems regarding robust transfer of geometrical information were not encountered and the process was deemed to be efficient. FEA also revealed another strength by providing thermal analysis of individual components of the structure. This can be employed in the early design stage by rapid prototyping of different components (e.g., geometry, thermal properties) and their role on the thermal performance of the whole structure. Results are presented by comparing the proposed approach with the current practice and the potential advantages are highlighted.

Capacity planning in cloud computing systems is a fundamental yet evolving discipline within software engineering. As cloud-native architectures and distributed workloads increase in complexity and scale, conventional planning models—typically reactive and reliant exclusively on historical usage—are inadequate to satisfy performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency requirements. This chapter examines the theoretical underpinnings of capacity planning, elucidating the interplay between workload dynamics, software architecture, and resource management strategies. Based on a thorough literature analysis, the work delineates the primary types of planning approaches—historical, synthetic, and predictive—and rigorously evaluates their advantages and disadvantages. Significant focus is directed toward the disparity between architectural design and planning models, illustrating how the absence of integration results in inefficiencies and overprovisioning. The chapter suggests a progressive approach utilizing architecture-aware, feedback-driven models that integrate design intent, workload semantics, and real-time telemetry into cohesive capacity planning frameworks. These models seek to facilitate proactive, robust, and sustainable infrastructure techniques for contemporary cloud environments.

With their various physical differences, pets have to live with their owners in interiors, which is designed according to human scale. On the other hand, human-specific anthropometric measurements, which are the basic parameters in space design, are not sufficient to provide ergonomics in indoor spaces, which are also living spaces for pets. The hypothesis of this study, in which current examples of interior and furniture designs suitable for the physical needs of pets, whose numbers are increasing day by day, are discussed with an inclusive approach in interior architecture; It has been determined as 'when the interiors where pets live are redesigned according to the characteristics of the animals, ergonomics is provided for 'all living things' in the common living areas. The subject of common living space in the literature; Although it has been investigated in interdisciplinary fields such as cognitive psychology, zoology, and architecture on topics such as biodiversity, sustainability, animal welfare, and animal behavior, the subject of 'space organization of shared living spaces shared with domestic animals' as a new approach in the field of interior architecture has not been sufficiently discussed. For this reason, the research is a pioneering and descriptive study in terms of drawing attention to current practices in terms of conceptual infrastructure, architectural design, space organization, application examples and experimental models, making a systematic review of existing studies on the subject, and identifying new trends in the field of interior architecture. The aim of the research is to expand the interior design, which is a multidimensional subject, to include spaces designed for living with pets, in particular the arrangement of common living spaces. Since subjects such as interior design, interior architecture, and design have a wide field of research, the scope of the study is limited to the specific space and furniture designs designed for pets in terms of ease of research. In the descriptive study, the survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, was preferred as a research method to review the existing status of the researches in the field of design within the existing sample applications. As a result of the study, it has been understood that the 'interior and furniture design for pets' approach is a design approach that is open to development, is an inclusive application in the interior and has a high potential to be preferred.

Dynamic parametric modeling-based model updating strategy of aeroengine casings

This study explored the use of AI technology in architectural design, with a particular focus on AI design tools and their impact on the AEC industry in Pakistan. This study explored how AI technology variations. This research studied the impact of AI technology on traditional design workflows, productivity enhancement, and the transformational influence of AI on decision-making processes of design professionals in Pakistan. This research examined a variety of AI design tools, such as generative design, machine learning, and parametric modeling, to assess the AI technology relevance in optimization of spatial layout, structural analysis, and sustainable design in the Pakistani context. This research considered the time and cost efficiency, as well as the enhancement of creativity and overall design quality, the research evaluated the AI construction tools impact on the design process. The research findings emphasized the AI tools impact on design process efficiency, decreasing idle time, and empowering architects to assess numerous design options in a short time. The study also examined the specific AI tools challenges in the AEC Pakistan sector: inadequate tech infrastructure, learning challenges, workflow assimilation, and design originality loss. The research finally perceived the architectural practice AI technology on integration as a construction industry revolution and highlighted the importance of local industry dynamics. Such insights were helpful in guiding Pakistani AEC professionals in appreciating the value of AI technology and its effective utilization.
