At present, the field of piano teaching is facing challenges such as excessive reliance on teachers' subjective experience and lack of real-time feedback from students' performance. In addition, incorrect hand posture during piano performance can also easily lead to occupational injuries. With the development and popularization of machine learning models, computer vision technology, and multimodal sensors, artificial intelligence and machine learning technology are driving a paradigm shift in piano teaching. In this study, an intelligent piano education model based on Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) was designed to address the issues of hand posture recognition and rhythm structure analysis during student piano performance. Firstly, based on the hand images collected during the student's performance, key nodes of the hand are identified, and combined with biomechanical models, health indicators such as wrist collapse angle are quantitatively evaluated. In addition, based on the recorded information of students' performances, the short-term energy, zero crossing rate, and Mel frequency spectrum characteristics of the recorded data are integrated to accurately analyze the rhythm structure of students' performances using a CNN model. This study reveals the impact of abnormal hand postures on rhythmic fluctuations, while also validating the application effectiveness of CNN in piano performance hand posture recognition and rhythm structure analysis.
Read moreExploring the Intersection of Piano Techniques and Emotional Resonance in Nanchang, China
HRMARS - This study investigates the expressive potential of piano techniques and their influence on emotional resonance within classical performance, with a specific focus on Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, China. While Western classical music is deeply rooted in emotional expression, traditional Chinese music emphasizes subtlety and spiritual reflection. This cultural divergence presents challenges for Chinese piano students and educators in harmonizing Western techniques with local sensibilities. By integrating theoretical frameworks such as Dalcroze Eurhythmics, Meyer’s Theory of Emotion and Meaning in Music, and Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions, the research examines how piano techniques—dynamics, tempo, articulation—impact emotional expression and how cultural factors mediate this effect. A mixed-methods approach combines surveys, interviews, observational studies, and performance analysis to explore the perceptions and experiences of students, educators, and audiences. Participants include professional pianists, music educators, students, cultural scholars, and general listeners. The study also addresses gaps in current research, including the integration of emotional expression into piano pedagogy, cultural variations in audience perception, and the role of innovative technologies in teaching. Findings aim to provide actionable insights for developing culturally adaptive piano teaching strategies that balance technical mastery with emotional depth, fostering greater engagement and retention among students. This research contributes to the broader discourse on music education, emphasizing the interplay between technical skill, emotional communication, and cultural identity. By addressing these dimensions, the study aspires to enhance the emotional impact of piano performances, enrich pedagogical practices, and deepen understanding of the role of culture in shaping musical expression.
Read moreThe arrangement of students extracurricular piano practice process with the asynchronous distance piano teaching method
That the students do their extracurricular piano practices in the direction of the teacher’s warnings is a key factor in achieving success in the teaching- learning process. However, the teachers cannot adequately control the students’ extracurricular practices in the process of traditional piano education. Under the influence of this lack of control, the students who do their extracurricular practices forgetting the teacher’s warnings acquire various false steps and unfortunately this is a frequently encountered situation in the piano education process. The present study aimed to provide a solution to this important problem by using the asynchronous distance piano teaching method, so the process of students' extracurricular piano practices could be more in the teacher's control and to determine the effect of this method on the students' piano performances. In this study, the experimental model was used. The lesson was carried out with the same teacher, in the same way and at the same time for both experimental and control groups. While their extracurricular practice time was equal, their method was different. The experimental group practised with the asynchronous method and the control group with the traditional method. After their extracurricular practice process, carried out with different methods, their performances were recorded 3 times in a row with a camera. The records were evaluated using the performance evaluation form. The data achieved in the experimental setting were interpreted with the independent t-test according to p<.05 level of significance and the piano performances of the experimental group students who had their extracurricular activities with asynchronous distance education method and those of the control group students who had their extracurricular activities with the traditional method were compared. As a result of the research, a significant difference (t=2.80), in favour of the experimental group, was found. Based on the research results and the observations made in the experimental setting, it was concluded that students had an effective development as the teacher wanted and the method could be successfully applied. Key words: Distance piano teaching, traditional piano teaching, extracurricular piano practices.
Read moreThe Timbre Relationship between Piano Performance Skills and Piano Combined with Opera Music Elements in the Context of the Internet of Things
The “quintessence of the nation” Peking Opera is a highly comprehensive form of opera, which has a high artistic status in traditional Chinese culture. At present, the combination of the Internet of things and music can be embodied in smart devices, through a computing device that can perceive and exchange data for the purpose of music. In the more than 100 years of development of the piano art in China, many composers have used Peking Opera singing and board styles, or absorbed the essence and connotation of Peking Opera, taking Peking Opera elements as the core material and source of creation and presenting them instrumentally through piano works. For example, in terms of smart musical instruments, the Internet of things and Internet technology are combined to realize the real-time connection between the remote piano and the piano and accurately reproduce all the touch and pedal movements of the player, so that teachers and students in different spaces can listen to the course. Audiences had an immersive course experience. Taking this as an opportunity, we will carry out a series of “remote art education” such as remote master classes and remote concerts, to realize the sharing of educational resources around the world. The piano as the king of musical instruments has been loved by people. During piano performance, touch key techniques and pedaling techniques have a very important influence on the piano’s performance sound effects. Chinese opera is the essence of Chinese national art and one of the treasures of China’s traditional national music. The composers of our country also constantly apply the opera elements to the piano creation and create many kinds of piano works that conform to the traditional Chinese opera style and reflect the characteristics of the piano. Pedal skills are also an important technique in piano performance. The pedaling method is based on thinking about history and showing the player’s intentions. Only using the correct playing skills can make the music more expressive. This study briefly introduces the development of piano in China and the playing skills of the piano, and at the same time, it briefly describes the principle of piano sounding and the sound of piano. Based on the previous studies, the effects of touch key techniques and pedaling techniques on the sound of the piano are discussed. I hope to provide some references for the piano performers. The average similarity between the final music and the original music is 60% and around 70%. This article provides a reference direction for the diversified dissemination and promotion of theatrical art and provides theoretical and technical reference suggestions for the future creation, performance, and teaching of Chinese piano music.

Read moreMultimodal Information Fusion and Data Generation for Evaluation of Second Language Emotional Expression
This study aims to develop an emotion evaluation method for second language learners, utilizing multimodal information to comprehensively evaluate students’ emotional expressions. Addressing the limitations of existing emotion evaluation methods, which primarily focus on the acoustic features of speech (e.g., pronunciation, frequency, and rhythm) and often neglect the emotional expressions conveyed through voice and facial videos, this paper proposes an emotion evaluation method based on multimodal information. The method includes the following three main parts: (1) generating virtual data using a Large Language Model (LLM) and audio-driven facial video synthesis, as well as integrating the IEMOCAP dataset with self-recorded student videos and audios containing teacher ratings to construct a multimodal emotion evaluation dataset; (2) a graph convolution-based emotion feature encoding network to extract emotion features from multimodal information; and (3) an emotion evaluation network based on Kolmogorov–Arnold Networks (KAN) to compare students’ emotion features with standard synthetic data for precise evaluation. The emotion recognition method achieves an unweighted accuracy (UA) of 68.02% and an F1 score of 67.11% in experiments with the IEMOCAP dataset and TTS data. The emotion evaluation model, using the KAN network, outperforms the MLP network, with a mean squared error (MSE) of 0.811 compared to 0.943, providing a reliable tool for evaluating language learners’ emotional expressions.

The article highlights the peculiarities of the development of the artistic and performing technique of future music teachers in the process of piano training. The essence of the concept of "piano technique" has been specified. The core principle of piano teaching has been updated - the principle of the unity of the artistic and technical, on the basis of which the work on musical works should be based. Along with this, piano technique requires appropriate training of the motor and technical apparatus, solid mastery of artistic and technical skills, the formation of which takes place in the process of special long-term work of a student-pianist. The main indicators of the development of the student's piano technique are highlighted: contact with the keyboard, flexibility and plasticity of the technical apparatus, executive freedom, a feeling of muscular ease of performance, economy of calibrated, appropriate movements during the performance process, thanks to which the speed of playing, technical endurance, controllability of the technical process is achieved , automation of piano movements, mastering the sum of artistic and performing means of piano art (intonation, articulation, phrasing, pedalization, dynamics, agogic, etc.), auditory self-control of performance, close connection of the auditory and motor spheres that are subordinate to artistic representations, achievement of the necessary artistic performance result. It is emphasized that in the process of developing the artistic technique of a student-pianist, it is important to take into account the stylistic and genre context of the works, consciously using the means of artistic expression characteristic of a certain genre or style. It should be emphasized that on the material of exercises and sketches, students should acquire both technical and performing skills, as well as artistic and performing skills. Auditory control, active participation of musical hearing is of fundamental importance in the process of development of artistic and performing technique. Reflection is an important component of the professional training of future music teachers. In the context of the development of the artistic performance technique of a student-pianist, it functions as awareness of one's own actions based on self-observation, self-analysis, which are important prerequisites for self-improvement of one's own performance.
