The transition to sustainable tourism in the European Union (EU) is increasingly shaped by green and digital transformation. However, the efficient use of local natural, cultural, human, and technological resources remains vital for enhancing sustainability and improving quality of life. This article examines how smart tourism destinations can operationalize sustainability through data-driven tools, stakeholder collaboration, and territorial assets. Using the SMART Sustainability Framework, it analyzes key indicators such as tourism intensity, digitalization levels, and green initiative adoption, with a focus on newer EU Member States. Case studies from Ljubljana, Gothenburg, Valencia, and Madeira illustrate varied approaches to integrating local resources via ICT, participatory governance, and sustainable mobility. Comparative analysis highlights significant disparities, with High Performers like Slovenia and Spain aligning digital innovation with local sustainability goals. The article concludes with policy recommendations to strengthen local capacities, scale digital tools, and promote place-based strategies for more inclusive and resilient tourism development.

Evaluation of local feed resources as alternatives to fish meal in terms of growth performance, feed utilisation and biological indices of striped catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) fingerlings

Zhangpu paper-cutters have historically relied on imported rice paper, leaving the craft vulnerable to global fuel price increases and rising transport costs. This study investigates whether locally-available natural materials can provide a sustainable and just alternative for the community. Using a mixed-methods approach, we surveyed 100 randomly sampled residents to examine perceptions of local resources and the role of community capital in supporting cultural continuity. We then produced experimental papers from kelp, laver and bamboo – materials abundant in Zhangpu – and evaluated their physical properties and artistic suitability through structured tests and user trials with expert artisans. The results show that locally sourced fibres, particularly laver – bamboo blends, can produce paper with favourable aesthetic, textural and functional qualities comparable to traditional rice paper while reducing dependence on external supply chains. Incorporating these materials has the potential to enhance community capital by strengthening local resource use, supporting artisan livelihoods and reducing socio-ecological vulnerability. This study demonstrates how local environmental resources can support more equitable and resilient forms of intangible cultural heritage practice.

This study was conducted to assess the effect of different additives on the fermentation characteristics, in vitro digestibility and aerobic stability of fermented total mixed ration (FTMR) prepared with local feed resources in Tibet, China. Additives added to FTMR were Lactobacillus buchneri (1 × 106 cfu/g fresh weight (FW)), acetic acid (0.3% FW), propionic acid (0.4% FW), 1,2‐propanediol and 1‐propanol (0.5% FW). FTMR were opened after 90 days and subjected to a 14‐d aerobic stability test. The results showed that L. buchneri, 1,2‐propanediol and 1‐propanol increased (P < 0.05) pH values and acetic acid concentrations and decreased (P < 0.05) lactic acid concentrations in FTMR. Adding acetic acid decreased (P < 0.05) lactic/acetic acid ratio. FTMR treated with propionic acid had higher (P < 0.05) lactic acid, propionic acid and DM recovery compared with the other treatments. Treating FTMR with acetic acid, 1,2‐propanediol and 1‐propanol decreased (P < 0.05) yeast counts. The in vitro potential gas production tended to be lower in L. buchneri‐treated silage than other silages. During aerobic exposure, FTMR treated with propionic acid spoiled first, with marked pH increase and lactic acid decrease from days 9 to 14. Treatment with L. buchneri, acetic acid, 1,2‐propanediol and 1‐propanol markedly improved the aerobic stability, as indicated by nearly unchanged pH and lactic acid concentrations. The results suggest that L. buchneri, acetic acid, 1,2‐propanediol and 1‐propanol did not adversely affect the in vitro digestibility and could be effective additives for enhancing the aerobic stability of FTMR prepared on Tibetan plateau.

This study was carried out to assess the nutrient composition of some unconventional and local feed resources available in Senegal so as to use them as protein supplement sources in the diets of indigenous chickens to enhance their productivity. Ten (10) unconventional and local ingredients from Senegal including leguminous leaves (Leuceana leucocephala, Cassia tora, Moringa oleifera, Adansonia digitata, Sesbania rostrata), cucurbit (Citrullus vulgaris) and roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa) seeds, red and white cowpea (Vigna unguiculata seeds) and cockroaches (Blatta orientalis) were collected, sun-dried, processed into meal and analyzed for their chemical and macro-mineral composition using internationally established procedures. The results showed that the samples Dry Matter (DM) percent ranged from 89.3% (red cowpea) to 94.9% (C. vulgaris). The Crude Protein (CP) content ranged from 24.7% (white cowpea) to 61.9% (cockroaches meal), with A. digitata leaves having the lowest value (12.9%). Citrullus and Hibiscus seeds meal recorded the highest (38.8% and 18.9%) Ether Extract (EE) values, followed respectively by cockroaches (11.1%), Moringa (9.8%), Leuceana (6.4%) and Sesbania leaves meal (5.1%), while the others were below 4.5%. The crude fiber (CF) content was globally high in the leaves, ranging from 11.7% (M. oleifera) to 16.8% (C. tora) while that of seeds and cockroaches ranged from 1.9% (white cowpea) to 19% (Citrullus seeds). A. digitata leaves gave the highest ash content (25.2%), followed by Cassia (15.2%), Moringa (13.6%), Leuceana (11.4%) and Sesbania leaves (7.1%), while the others were below 5.6%. The metabolizable energy (ME) value calculated for seeds and cockroaches meal ranged from 3161 kcal/kg DM (cockroaches) to 4270 kcal/kg DM (C. vulgaris) and that of leaves from 1873 (A. digitata) to 2888.9 kcal/kg DM (M. oleifera). Cassia leaves contained the highest level of calcium (3.1%), followed by Adansonia and Leuceana (1.81%), Moringa and Sesbania leaves (1.41%), whilst cockroaches, Hibiscus and Citrullus seeds meal recorded respectively 0.93, 0.81 and 0.55% of phosphorus. These results showed that all the ingredients samples contained appreciable quantities of all dietary nutrients tested for which more or less make them partial or complete substitutes for the conventional feed sources.

This community service program aims to improve the nutritional intake of stunted children and pregnant women through corn cracker product innovation and to optimize the utilization of local natural resources in Pante Rakyat Village, Babah Rot District, Southwest Aceh Regency. The prevalence of stunting in the region serves as the background for implementing this program, where corn as a local commodity has the potential to become an affordable nutritious food solution. The activities were conducted using Participatory Action Research (PAR) methodology, involving 30 housewives and posyandu (integrated health post) cadres in a series of activities including: (1) observation and identification of local potential, (2) nutrition and stunting education, (3) corn cracker production training, and (4) production and distribution assistance. Results showed that 90% of participants responded positively to the program and were able to independently apply corn cracker processing technology. Nutritional content analysis revealed that the produced corn crackers contain carbohydrates (72.3%), protein (6.8%), and essential minerals such as calcium and iron that are beneficial for child growth and maternal health. Beyond health benefits, this program successfully increased active community participation in efforts to reduce stunting rates and created new entrepreneurial opportunities through the utilization of local agricultural products. Program sustainability was ensured through the establishment of a joint business group mentored by the service team. It is concluded that the development of corn cracker products contributes significantly to improving the nutritional status of stunted children and pregnant women, while promoting community economic empowerment through the utilization of local natural resources.

The knowledge, perception, and behavior of young people toward ecotourism are important for the sustainable development of this sector. The purpose of this research is to evaluate and analyze the knowledge of young Romanian students about ecotourism and the main ecotourism destinations in Romania, their behavior in relation to the practice of this form of sustainable tourism at the local level in the last 2 years (2020 and 2021), and people’s use of the Internet for planning holidays and digital applications while traveling in nature. A quantitative research was conducted based on a self-administered questionnaire, structured in 13 sections on ecotourism, to which were added the sociodemographic data of the respondents. The conclusions of the research are that young people know well the main ecotourism destinations in Romania; they choose them according to the beauty of the landscape, multitude of outdoor activities, and the hospitality of the hosts. In the last 2 years of the pandemic, young people have visited several times the main existing ecotourism destinations locally, with an average vacation duration of 1–3 days. The Internet remains the main source of information, and in the field, they use mobile applications that allow the download of digital maps and recognize different plant species. By integrating various activities in nature, in close connection with the local culture, ecotourism can contribute to the sustainable use of local tourism resources. This study provides a detailed and realistic picture of the knowledge and the type of ecotourism experience that young people want. The implications are theoretical and managerial, highlighting the importance of assessing the preferences of young ecotourists, as a basis for developing ecotourism strategies, sustainable use of local tourism resources, and management of protected areas.

A questionnaire about environmental education activity on elementary school showed differences of activity in each local characteristic. Focused on utilization of local resources and the cooperative activities between the school and community, typical schools were researched the way of interview and observation. The comparative analysis showed a tendency that local resources corresponding with each characteristic are select and the conference of local community, PTA and administrations act as an intermediary between the school and community.

The program is implemented in the Dasuk County in Sumenep Regency with two goals major producer of cashew Beringin village and Jilbudan village. The program IBW has a purpose: 1) to increase welfare better society through the utilization of local resources that have economic value, 2) increasing the skills and professionalism of people, 3) increase the capacity of cashew farming communities to diversifying the product, 4) the formation of economic business community and institutions that are structured to cashew farmers. The project used two approaches, Training and mentoring approach. Training approach include: 1) entrepreneurial training; 2) skills training for women and youth based on local resources; 3) training appearance and diversifying the cultivation of cashew products professionally and 4) marketing training through the web and on-line. While this method of assistance include: 1) facilitation of technology transfer for the production of cashew cultivation; 2) facilitation of technology transfer diversifying cashew products in a professional manner; 3) mentoring network strengthening marketing activities and 4) institutional strengthening assistance. Expected outcomes of this program for the second year of this is establishing erpreneurship on society, increasing the skills of women and youth with the waste cashew shell, processed products jam and candied cashews, waste cashew to feed the livestock through several processes of ensiling, the manufacture of the product label and cashew packaging technology products, the establishment of farmer networks

Implementing a multimodal intervention using local resources to improve hand hygiene compliance in a comprehensive specialized hospital in Mekelle, Northern Ethiopia

As an innovative solution to social issues and a driver of the local economy, sociopreneurship holds crucial relevance in strategic areas such as the national strategic tourism area of Borobudur. This study aims to analyze the determining factors that influence individuals' decisions to become sociopreneurs in the area. Using Utility Theory and Neoclassical Labor Choice Theory, the study applies a quantitative approach with a probit regression model. Primary data were analyzed from 140 respondents (sociopreneurs and non-sociopreneurs) selected through purposive sampling. The main results indicate that age, training, community participation, number of workers, and local resources have a significant positive effect. Conversely, the use of production technology has a negative effect, while capital and formal education factors are not significant. The main conclusion suggests that the decision to become a sociopreneur is driven by a balance of social and economic utility, not simply capital. The implications of this research recommend strengthening policies focused on community-based training and utilization of local resources

Food is an essential human need. Local food resources, as variations in food consumption society, has been displaced by the food pattern of rice and wheat. This challenge, which requires innovation and transformation of the physical form of local food to be liked by the community and value-added food technology process. This study describes the management of the local food chain from upstream - downstream. The result, that the number of farms in Temanggung Regency, declined 9,05% during 2003-2013. Influence on output, the decline in cattle population is 33,59%. The potential of local food resources are corn, potatoes and cassava. Marketing, slash sold at harvest, because of the practical. A small portion is used as a raw material by the snack food industry domestic industry. Type snack food industry locally grown is cassava chips (most, 17 locations), and a banana chips / taro chips. Marketing is done by a small proportion of women farmer group members, which is deposited on the stalls / shops, restaurants and outlets instistusi cooperative government. Promotion is done through exhibitions in various cities. Models utilization of local food resources, can not be separated from the role of chairman of the entrepreneurial group. While members of the group as a support in the production and marketing process. Value chain and the policies that need to be prepared : the provision of quality seeds of local food as a source of raw materials by agricultural institutions, food processing technology by industry and academia, capital by cooperatives, promotion and marketing by the field of trade.

The high-quality implementation of ideological and political teaching is inseparable from the effective utilization of social resources. Flexible, reasonable and effective development and utilization of local social resources can not only enrich the teaching content, help students improve their understanding of textbook knowledge, but also help to achieve the educational goal of "building morality and cultivating people", and broaden the way to cultivate students' core literacy and ability. It is an unshirkable responsibility and mission to infiltrate local cultural resources in ideological and political teaching in junior middle school. The acquisition of knowledge needs to be based on real situational experience. Therefore, fully excavating textbook resources, carefully selecting situational types, designing situational problems, allowing students to render emotions in situations and enhancing rational thinking in perceptual experience are effective ways to implement red education in ideological and political courses in junior middle school.

Globally increasing intensity and frequency of disasters disproportionately affect rural populations, who are particularly vulnerable to damage. Disasters also have far-reaching impacts on the built environment and lead to significant economic losses required for the post-disaster reconstruction of houses and infrastructure. Housing plays a crucial role in fostering sustainability and well-being in people’s lives. If houses are damaged, individuals are compelled to reside in evacuation shelters or temporary residences for extended periods, hindering the potential for sustainable livelihoods and quality of life. This study examines various factors, such as mutual cooperation, local resource utilization, topographical considerations, and seasonal influences, aimed at fostering effective post-disaster housing reconstruction in rural communities in developing countries. A questionnaire survey including key informant interviews was conducted in the affected areas to collect the primary data. The study also incorporates additional information, such as government policies for post-disaster housing reconstruction and physical observation of the affected areas. The collected information is analyzed using descriptive statistics, including data visualization. The study found that households that primarily utilized local resources and engaged in mutual assistance, such as labor exchange, were able to accelerate their reconstruction efforts. The study includes discussions about utilizing local resources and mutual cooperation for prompt reconstruction and the scope for future research on post-disaster reconstruction in rural areas.

As the reform of kindergarten education in rural China advances, there are more and more discussions about rural kindergarten environments. Rural kindergartens in China are rich in local resources, but how to utilize such characteristic resources in creating kindergarten environments is still a problem at both the theoretical and practical levels. On the one hand, the use of local resources is neglected in the creation of environments; on the other hand, the use of local resources in the creation of environments is too superficial and lacks an educational character. To address these problems, we need to re-examine the meaning of " rural resources" and propose strategies.
