Cloud computing (CC) services can offer substantial cost-effective global operational and relationship benefits if the cooperation between logistics and CC services are resilient. Potential vulnerabilities to cooperation of CC and logistics service providers can occur with respect to vital factors such as security and trust. Extant studies have demonstrated CC benefits as well as few challenges associated with CC services application. However, no extant study has examined the inter-organisational benefits based on cooperative resilience between CC and logistics service providers in terms of both capability and trust vulnerability factors. This study examines the cooperative resilience of logistics and CC service providers based on innovation diffusion theory within a supply chain risk assessment framework. Using structural equation modelling techniques, we investigate the relationship between the vulnerability factor (trust), capability factor (security) and collaboration benefits (relationship and operational) offered by CC service providers based on 236 Chinese logistics service firms’ perceptions of CC adoption. The results indicate Chinese logistics companies perceive security impediments as a major factor affecting cooperative resilience between logistics service and CC service providers.

Major advances in the Internet of Things (IoT) technologies are offering unprecedented automated services to various sectors. IoT has shown great promise in transforming buildings and institutions into smart buildings and institutions, making traditional task management more efficient. In particular, there has been remarkable progress in successfully integrating IoT into various contexts, such as smart homes, businesses and cities. Cloud computing is a new model for providing computing services, where computing is delivered as a service over the Internet. Cloud computing is a very popular choice among SMEs because computing services are provided at much lower prices compared to their own IT infrastructure. In the cloud computing model, computing services and data storage are outsourced to cloud service providers. Customers do not have full control over applications and their data. Therefore, an added overhead of security risks comes along, and the security of data becomes the primary concern for cloud customers when considering cloud services. This paper explores various deployment models of cloud computing services and IoT (Internet of Things), figures out associated data security issues with them, and suggests a metric-based solution to assess security provided by cloud services.

Internet, since the beginning of its work, has undergone many changes one of the latest changes is how the internet cloud computing. New technologies cloud computing offers because of features all kinds of facilities to the users as a service. Each evolution, change and novel concept in the world of technologies has its own problems and complications. Accordingly, benefiting from cloud computing is no exception to this rule and it has challenged researchers and proponents in this research domain. Indeed, some major challenges in cloud computing are: load balancing, safety, reliability, ownership, data backup, data portability and supporting several platforms. One challenge for such matters in the field of cloud computing is load balancing optimization in the cloud. The so-called cloud computing, including virtualization, distributed computing, networking, software and Web services. With respect to the ever increasing significance of load balancing in cloud computing the researchers in this paper intended to improve load balancing by using a novel method. The related studies were reviewed, evaluated and compared with each other. The efficiency of the proposed method was analyzed and compared with those of other studies. The results of the present study revealed that the proposed method is better than other dynamic virtual machine (VM) consolidation algorithms in terms of reducing SLA (service levels agreement) violation and the amount of transmitted data volume transmission has to present a better performance than other methods.

The recent trend in the Internet of Things (IoT) is bringing innovations in almost every field of science. IoT is mainly focused on the connectivity of things via the Internet. IoT’s integration tools are developed based on the Do It Yourself (DIY) approach, as the general public lacks technical skills. This paper presents a thermal comfort system based on tasks allocation mechanism in smart homes. This paper designs and implements the tasks allocation mechanism based on virtual objects composition for IoT applications. We provide user-friendly drag and drops panels for the new IoT users to visualize both task composition and device virtualization. This paper also designs tasks generation from microservices, tasks mapping, task scheduling, and tasks allocation for thermal comfort applications in smart home. Microservices are functional units of services in an IoT environment. Physical devices are registered, and their corresponding virtual objects are initialized. Tasks are generated from the microservices and connected with the relevant virtual objects. Afterward, they are scheduled and finally allocated on the physical IoT device. The task composition toolbox is deployed on the cloud for users to access the application remotely. The performance of the proposed architecture is evaluated using both real-time and simulated scenarios. Round trip time (RTT), response time, task dropping and latency are used as the performance metrics. Results indicate that even for worst-case scenarios, values of these metrics are negligible, which makes our architecture significant, better and ideal for task allocation in IoT network.

Ontology-based data semantic management and application in IoT- and cloud-enabled smart homes

The Internet of Things (IoT) will connect not only computers and mobile devices, but it will also interconnect smart buildings, homes, and cities, as well as electrical grids, gas, and water networks, automobiles, airplanes, etc. IoT will lead to the development of a wide range of advanced information services that need to be processed in real-time and require data centers with large storage and computing power. The integration of IoT with Cloud and Fog Computing can bring not only the required computational power and storage capacity, but they enable IoT services to be pervasive, cost-effective, and can be accessed from anywhere using any device (mobile or stationary). However, IoT infrastructures and services will introduce grand security challenges due to the significant increase in the attack surface, complexity, heterogeneity and number of resources. In this paper, we present an IoT security framework for smart infrastructures such as Smart Homes (SH) and smart buildings (SB). We also present a general threat model that can be used to develop a security protection methodology for IoT services against cyber-attacks (known or unknown). Additionally, we show that Anomaly Behavior Analysis (ABA) Intrusion Detection System (ABA-IDS) can detect and classify a wide range of attacks against IoT sensors.

The concept of Internet-of-Things (IoT) emerged around two decades ago but has gained momentum during the last few years. The modern technology has infused this innovative paradigm on several scales but still lacks shadowing many aspects of our daily life. Several businesses have attempted its interjection in their processes, however, some of the features of IoT have been avoided by most of them due to its cryptic nature and requiring technical skills prior to its replete use. The development of IoT is well ahead of its need to be and linked to an inability of adopting its fast-paced changes along with the lack of strong business operational models. This paper contributes to the developing of a smart home where electrical appliances would react according to the environment while users would be able to control them through smart gadgets. The conventional setup of arranging and organising the electrical appliances is compared to the newly-developed, several patterns have been observed through which carbon footprints and electricity consumption could be reduced. The collected data has been analysed and it proves that IoT does not only helps save energy consumption but also to save the environment. This paper also highlights the challenges faced by consumers who are affected by the penetration of IoT into their lives along with benefits of infusing IoT applications. The overall theme of this paper is, therefore, to make the consumer understand the benefits of IoT applications into their lives using Arduino setup to control electrical home appliances as a benchmark.
