Issues in Managing Multimedia Networks

Power communication integrated network management system plays a significant role in the planning, design and maintenance of the whole power communication network. This paper analyzes the characteristics of the current power communication network and the corresponding integrated network management system, and improves the design of the existing power communication network integrated network management according to Sdn. This network management system can be used as a supplementary system for the current power system integrated network management function, realizes the global visualization of the power communication network, and provides a strong support for the operation and maintenance of the power communication network. The test running environment is built in the laboratory to realize the mapping of physical route and logical link. The preliminary verification test of the new network management system based on openflow technology is carried out, and the key design methods and ideas of the system are given.

With the construction of mobile communication network system, the need of building an integrated network management system based on specialized network management using GIS technologies become more and more necessary. By analyzing the current status of mobile communication network management system, this paper proposes that using ArcGIS, Java, Flex and other technologies to implement the integrated network management system. Then it explains key technical issues in the system implementation. Finally, this paper summarizes the practical application to Sichuan Branch of China Mobile Communications Group Co, and offers a prospect of the developing direction.

The electric power transmission network management is changing from decentralized to province-centralized mode to adapt to the development trend of power grid. For the current hierarchical management situation of transmission system, the paper mainly studies the centralized mode. Considering the difficulty of transform, security, the demand of bandwidth and augmentability factors, the paper proposes a hierarchical province-centralized mode based on Resource pool and states its architecture, realization methods and deployment mode of Network Manager System in Cloud, realizing the unified management, configuration and data sharing of the whole province. Deploying the network management system in the Clout is taking full use of the resource sharing, efficient management and on-demand resource of the Cloud to realize the intensification, promoting the scheduling intensive management level of Information and transmission. Introduction For a long time, the layered, graded, zoned management mode of electric power communication networks makes the network management system built and maintained by the way of multi-level scheduling mechanism. In order to fulfill the development trend of power grid, power transmission network management should be developed from the provinces and cities separated pattern to the province-centralized mode to realize unified management, unified configuration and sharing of the communication network data within province and achieve the purpose of concentrate and highly active management, reasonable resource-configuration and optimizing the structure of the network resources. Deploying the communication network management centrally is an effective way to enhance the level of intensive management, which, whereas, will cause the load that systems deal with increase sharply. However, Cloud computing technology integrates resources into form Cloud in order to get higher utilization of computing and storage, having a strong computing power and storage capacity. With the development of Cloud construction, deploying communication network management in the pool can improve data reliability and security. This paper puts forward a hierarchical province-centralized mode based on Cloud by researching on concentrated-model of Transmission Network Management, and describes the model in detail. Discussed Problems Power system communication network is the important technology support and infrastructure platform of the grid. As an important guarantee of power grid security, stability and economic running, communication network management system is the important technology means of the communication network management and maintenance. The authors Published by Atlantis Press 596 Communication network management system At present, the general transmission network management system is divided into Element Management System(EMS), Subnet Management System(SNMS) and Network Management (NMS) in terms of the management level. EMS is based on the device manager and realizes the management of safety, configuration, performance and alarm for specific equipment; SNMS can divide the network elements into various subnets, not only manage the elements equipments but also the topological relation between them. NMS is a higher level than the SNMS and manage multiple SNMS systems at the same time through network. It configures the router for each business level, and also shows the network elements’ circumstances of each time slot and the business relationships at all levels in details. The relationship of different level network management system is showed as the figure 1.

Presently, integrated network management systems are being developed based on the open systems interconnection (OSI) management standards to manage information networks under the multivendor environment in an integrated manner. In this paper, an optimal scope-patterns decision method for efficient OSI management operation is proposed. The scope patterns are common management information service (CMIS) operational range specifications based on the containment relationship between managed objects. The motivation for this study is to improve human interfaces for network management systems by providing a translating function for operator-specified operational ranges based on various kinds of relationships into CMIS scope patterns. The proposed method provides the ability to translate automatically operator-specified operational ranges based on any kind of relationship into possible CMIS scope-pattern candidates and the ability to define optimal scope patterns for minimizing invoked operations by solving an integer programming problem using a fast computing approximate algorithm. Thus, network management operators can achieve user-friendly human-machine interaction and efficient management operation.

This paper introduces an integrated network management system which is basically realized in the lab. It supports a multi-vendor environment with open architectures and standard interfaces. The design process for the system is described according to the standard of the telecommunication management network. At the operation system platform, the client/server structure, the TCP/IP protocol, Sybase database management system and Power Builder software are adopted. Object-oriented technology is employed for development. Based on the integrated network management system the configuration management, performance management and fault management of the telecommunication network can be implemented.

A generic architecture for management and control of end-to-end quality of service over multiple domains

Several organizations are incorporating the architecture being developed by the Open Systems Interconnection/Network Management Forum into their network management products and systems. It is expected that, as this architecture develops, it will be the basis for multivendor exchange of network management data for the next five to ten years. This architecture and key concepts being developed by the Forum to allow the interoperation of several network management systems using an open interface are summarized. These apply to the full range of networks that must be managed, including computer and communication, local area, wide area international, voice (public and private), and packet data networks. The concepts covered include: Conformant Management Entity (CME), which is a management system that supports the interoperable interface defined by the Forum; managed objects, the abstract representations of the real resources to be managed; and the interoperable interface, which consists of a defined set of protocols (using the OSI seven-layer protocol stack) over which particular messages about managed objects are exchanged.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">&gt;</ETX>

To sustain the ever growing demand for bandwidth in cost-effective, efficient and robust ways, it is anticipated that the next-generation transport network architecture will consist of several different technology layers. However, managing such multi-layered transport networks will be complicated and difficult, due to the scale of the networks and the correlation between different technology layers. Unfortunately, existing network management systems mainly manage a single technology, and management systems for different technologies may not interoperate. Therefore, to effectively manage the emerging multi-layered transport networks, an integrated network management system is urgently needed. In this paper, we describe work on integrated management of ATM/SONET/WDM networks from both information modeling's and software architecture's perspectives. We describe how the standard work on network-level information models may be used to model different transport technology layers and their inter-relationships. We will also describe how the CORBA technology may be used to realize the integrated information model so that the resulting integrated network management system is distributed and complies with TMN Logical Layered Architecture.

With the development of the computer network, and the great change in the demands of network management, any Network Management System is a process of development and perfection. Therefore, designing a rational system structure is the foundation to ensure the good scalability of the system. The main issues and characteristics of Network Management in Campus Network at present were analyzed in the thesis, and the system structure of Network Management in Campus Network were discussed, which includes data collecting layer, centralized-processing layer, network management layer, service management layer. The basic network management system framework of campus network based on Web and its deployment method were also proposed in this paper, which cover the most of the demand for network management. The framework has a good scalability, which lay the foundation for the development of Network Management System in campus network.

A virtual private network (VPN) makes it possible for a customer to use a wide range network by borrowing a provider network. In addition, by recent emergence of the layer 1 VPN (L1VPN), more customers require to control the end-to-end path setting on VPN by using path computation traffic engineering. We propose a customer-based L1VPN network management system (NMS) that is separated from a provider NMS. This customized NMS enables each customer to explicitly control a customer IP path from an end-to-end point of view. The separation of each customer L1VPN NMS from a provider NMS also releases the provider NMS from a huge burden. We implement a management and control function in an L1VPN NMS by using enterprise java beans (EJBs). Then, we discuss and evaluate the merits of the proposed NMS.

The problem of managing large computer networks in enterprises is very complex. This requires an integrated network management system that aids the work of the network manager. A distributed network management system is necessary when the network grows to a large size. A distributed network management system using mobile agents can provide greater flexibility, less data transfer and dynamic load distribution. Much of the research in this area is in its infancy, so the available resources are scarce, and mobile agent based network management systems are not readily available. This paper presents a design of IITB_View, a distributed network management system based on SNMP technology and on the concept of mobile agents under a framework of the management-by-delegation model. In order to illustrate the concepts involved, the system has been implemented over a small portion of the IIT Bombay campus network. The implementation uses the publicly available IBM Aglets workbench. Some initial experiments conducted with the implementation indicate that mobile distributed processing of management data does perform better compared to its centralized counterpart. Also, IITB_View adapts quickly through on-line learning using neural network techniques. This experience of ours and results of the research conducted by others lend support to the claim that mobile agents present a technology that will become very useful, and perhaps even critical in many areas of system and network management.

In order to improve the efficiency and stability of Space-Terrestrial integrated network resource management and control, a multi-element multi-domain network management protocol (MMMP) is proposed. Based on MMMP, Space-Terrestrial integrated network management and control system (STi-NMCS) is designed. By abstracting network management objects, the efficiency of network management is greatly improved. Experiments are carried by comparing the overhead and the success rate of network management between MMMP, simple network management protocol(SNMP) and common management information protocol (CMIP). The results show that by using MMMP rather than SNMP as well as CMIP, the Space-Terrestrial integrated network management system archives high success rate and low management overhead.

Two alternative customer network management (CNM) access configurations for the user's network management station to access a public carrier's CNM system using the simple network management protocol (SNMP) are described. In addition, a management information base containing UNI management information is developed along with CNM service capabilities that enable permanent virtual connection (PVC) service users to manage their access to and use of the B-ISDN transport network and services. The CNM service capabilities support proactive management tools that alert PVC service users to developing problems in their communications network of which the B-ISDN network and services are parts and enable users to take corrective action to avoid a network collapse.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">&gt;</ETX>

To develop a network management system (NMS) more easily, the authors developed an application programming interface (API) for configuring network devices. Because this API is used in a Java development environment, an NMS can be developed by utilizing the API and other commonly available Java libraries. It is thus possible to easily develop an NMS that is highly compatible with other IT systems. And operations that are generated from the API and that are exchanged between the NMS and network devices are based on NETCONF, which is standardized by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) as a next-generation network-configuration protocol. Adopting a standardized technology ensures that the NMS developed by using the API can manage network devices provided from multi-vendors in a unified manner. Furthermore, the configuration items exchanged over NETCONF are specified in an object-oriented design. They are therefore easier to manage than such items in the Management Information Base (MIB), which is defined as data to be managed by the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). We actually developed several NMSs by using the API. Evaluation of these NMSs showed that, in terms of configuration time and development time, the NMS developed by using the API performed as well as NMSs developed by using a command line interface (CLI) and SNMP. The NMS developed by using the API showed feasibility to achieve “autonomic network management” and “high interoperability with IT systems.”

The ever evolving telecommunication networks in terms of their technology, infrastructure, and supported services have always posed challenges to the network managers to come up with an efficient Network Management System (NMS) for effective network management. The need for automated and efficient management of the current networks, more specifically the Next Generation Network (NGN), is the subject addressed in this research. A detailed description of the management challenges in the context of current networks is presented and then this work enlists the desired features and characteristics of an efficient NMS. It then proposes that there is a need to apply Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) approaches for enhancing and automating the functions of NMS. The first contribution of this work is a comprehensive survey of the AI and ML approaches applied to the domain of NM. The second contribution of this work is that it presents the reasoning and evidence to support the choice of Bayesian Networks (BN) as a viable solution for ML-based NMS. The final contribution of this work is that it proposes and implements three novel NM solutions based on the BN approach, namely BN-based Admission Control (BNAC), BN-based Distributed Admission Control (BNDAC) and BN-based Intelligent Traffic Engineering (BNITE), along with the description of algorithms underpinning the proposed framework.
