Krull–Schmidt categories and projective covers

Let P be an R-module with a decomposition P = M 1 ⊕⋯⊕M n , where each M i is a CS-module. In [6], a necessary and sufficient condition for P to be a CS-module for the decomposition is given, by introducing generalized relative injectivity.In this paper, we study the problem when a direct sum of uniform modules is CS for the given direct sum. In the case when each uniform module has a local endomorphism ring, this problem has been studied by several authors, e.g., Baba-Harada [2], Dung [3], Harada-Oshiro [5].

In the usual Krull-Schmidt-Azumaya theorem in abelian categories it is essential that each of the direct summands has a local ring of endomorphisms. A partial answer is given here to the case where this last condition is not satisfied by the indecomposable direct summands. It is found that those summands with local endomorphism rings are determined up to isomorphism and cardinality of occurrence.

Let $(R, \mathfrak{m})$ be a Cohen–Macaulay complete local ring. We will apply an inductive argument to show that for every nonprojective locally projective maximal Cohen–Macaulay object $ \mathcal{X} $ of the morphism category of $R$ with local endomorphism ring, there exists an almost split sequence ending in $ \mathcal{X} $. Regular sequences are exploited to reduce the Krull dimension of $R$ on which the inductive argument is established. Moreover, the Auslander–Reiten translate of certain objects is described.

We show that a pointwise finite-dimensional persistence module indexed over a small category decomposes into a direct sum of indecomposables with local endomorphism rings. As an application of this result we give new, short proofs of fundamental structure theorems for persistence modules.

Let $R$ be a local one-dimensional domain, with maximal ideal $\mathfrak M$, which is not a valuation domain. We investigate the class of the finitely generated mixed $R$-modules of Warfield type, so called since their construction goes back to R.B. Warfield. We prove that these $R$-modules have local endomorphism rings, hence they are indecomposable. We examine the torsion part $t(M)$ of a Warfield type module $M$, investigating the natural property $t(M) \subset \mathfrak M M$. This property is related to $b/a$ being integral over $R$, where $a$ and $b$ are elements of $R$ that define $M$. We also investigate $M/t(M)$ and determine its minimum number of generators.

Abstract. Let R be a ring and Q be a finite quiver, and let be the number of vertices of Q. Let be the class of representations of Q by right R-modules with local endomorphism ring and R-module homomorphisms. The endomorphism ring of a representation has at most n maximal right ideals, all of which are also left ideals, and the isomorphism class of M is determined by n invariants. The main theorem of this paper states that a finite direct sum of representations in is unique up to n permutations of m elements. Let . A non-directed graph associated to M is introduced and is shown to determine the unique decomposition of M into indecomposable representations. This class of representations is shown to generalize the known classes of modules for which a theorem analogous to the case of our main theorem holds.

Local rings whose modules are almost serial

This paper studies the computational complexity of subclasses of semiperfect rings from the perspective of computability theory. A ring is semiperfect if the identity can be expressed as a sum of mutually orthogonal local idempotents. Semisimple rings and local rings are typical subclasses of semiperfect rings that play important roles in noncommutative algebra. First, we define a ring to be semisimple if the left regular module can be decomposed as a finite direct sum of simple submodules and prove that the index set of computable semisimple rings is Σ20-hard within the index set of computable rings. Second, we define local rings by using equivalent properties of non-left invertible elements of rings and show that the index set of computable local rings is Π20-hard within the index set of computable rings. Finally, based on the Π20 definition of local rings, computable semiperfect rings can be described by Σ30 formulas. As a corollary, we find that the index set of computable semiperfect rings can be both Σ20-hard and Π20-hard within the index set of computable rings.

In this paper R R denotes an associative ring with an identity, and all modules are unital left R R -modules. It is shown that the existence of a quasi-projective cover for each module implies that each module has a projective cover. By a similar technique the following statements are shown to be equivalent: 1. R R is semisimple and Artinian; 2. Every finitely generated module is quasi-projective; and 3. The direct sum of every pair of quasi-projective modules is quasi-projective. Direct sums of quasi-injective modules are also investigated.

In this paper, we introduce and study the properties of chain conditions on M-cyclic submodules defined as M-Noetherian and M-Artinian modules and rings. We prove that the property of being iso-M-Noetherian (iso-M-Artinian) is inherited by submodules, quotient modules, and finite sums as well as finite direct sums. Finally, we prove the Hilbert basis theorem for iso-M-Noetherian (iso-M-Artinian) and verify that the property of modules of being M-Noetherian (M-Artinian) and iso-M-Noetherian (iso-M-Artinian) are Morita invariant.

A module [Formula: see text] is called coseparable ([Formula: see text]-coseparable) if for every submodule [Formula: see text] of [Formula: see text] such that [Formula: see text] is finitely generated ([Formula: see text] is simple), there exists a direct summand [Formula: see text] of [Formula: see text] such that [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] is finitely generated. In this paper, we show that free modules are coseparable. We also investigate whether or not the ([Formula: see text]-)coseparability is stable under taking submodules, factor modules, direct summands, direct sums and direct products. We show that a finite direct sum of coseparable modules is not, in general, coseparable. But the class of [Formula: see text]-coseparable modules is closed under finite direct sums. Moreover, it is shown that the class of coseparable modules over noetherian rings is closed under finite direct sums. A characterization of coseparable modules over noetherian rings is provided. It is also shown that every lifting (H-supplemented) module is coseparable ([Formula: see text]-coseparable).

Direct-Sum Decompositions over Local Rings

Methods and results from the representation theory of finite di- mensional algebras have led to many interactions with other areas of mathe- matics. Such areas include the theory of Lie algebras and quantum groups, commutative algebra, algebraic geometry and topology, and in particular the new theory of cluster algebras. The aim of this workshop was to further de- velop such interactions and to stimulate progress in the representation theory of algebras.

In this work we study flat modules over commutative noetherian rings under two kinds of restriction: that the modules are either submodules of free modules or that they have finite rank. The first ones have nicely behaved annihilators: they are generated by idempotents. Among the various questions related to flat modules of finite rank, emphasis is placed on discussing conditions implying its finite generation, as for instance, (i) over a local ring, a flat module of constant rank is free, and (ii) a flat submodule of finite rank of a free module is finitely generated. The rank one flat modules already present special problems regarding its endomorphism ring; in a few cases it is proved that they are flat over the base ring. Finally, a special class of flat modules—unmixed—is discussed, which have, so to speak, its source of divisibility somewhat concentrated in the center of its endomorphism ring and thus resemble projective modules over flat epimorphic images of the base ring.
