Method Diffusion as a Social Movement

While organizations are seeking new approaches to improving system development, methods are often designed and tailored in a less than rigorous manner. There is a tendency to blindly adopt the latest fad in methodology and to measure success in terms of adherence to these methods without understanding why they are better or how they create value. Principles, practices, and tools are often introduced without explaining what to expect from these new methods or considering their limits. The project’s over-arching goal was to use a design science research (DSR) approach to systems development design to encourage a move toward a more evidence-based assessment of these methods. The study’s artifacts were flow tools and practices customized and redesigned in TechCo, rather than new artifacts that were develop and are unavailable elsewhere. We found that DSR addressed the problem, at least in part, by forcing academic and industry participants to expand on ‘satisficed’ secondary knowledge and engage with ambiguities head on. (i) Apply DSR-appropriate standards of rigour to evaluating information systems development (ISD) methods; (ii) design and evaluate ISD methods before ISD method components; (iii) design clear and discriminatory metrics for ISD methods; (iv) consider temporal issues when designing and evaluating ISD methods; and (v) be wary of self-referencing metrics when evaluating ISD methods. More fundamentally, we found that both academic and industry participants were operating under evolving conditions of bounded rationality.

Method configuration is a specific type of Method Engineering (ME) that takes an existing organization-wide Information Systems Development Method (ISDM) as its point of departure. Existing assembly-based ME approaches are not well suited to this task. As an alternative, this paper suggests a metamethod approach to tailoring organization-wide ISDMs. We refer to this approach as the Method for Method Configuration (MMC). MMC takes into account the need to combine structure, which is one reason for choosing an organization-wide ISDM in the first place, with flexibility, which is essential for making the chosen ISDM fit actual projects. The metamethod is built using a three-layered reuse model comprising method components, configuration packages, and configuration templates. These concepts are combined efficiently to produce a situational method and thereby to facilitate the work of method engineers.

Summary form only given, as follows. The Dynamic Systems Development Method (DSDM) is about people, not tools. It is about truly understanding the needs of a business, delivering software solutions that work and delivering them as quickly as possible. The DSDM provides a framework of controls and best practice for rapid application development. It was created by a consortium of organizations and since its publication in January 1995, it has proved to be extremely effective in delivering maintainable systems which match the needs of the business better than those produced using traditional life cycles. This tutorial will be an introduction to DSDM, given by the Chairman of the Technical Committee which developed the method.

Agile methodologies have gained recognition as efficient development processes through their quick delivery of software, even under time constraints. However, like other agile methods such as Scrum, Extreme Programming (XP) and The Dynamic Systems Development Method (DSDM), Feature Driven Development (FDD) has been criticized due to the unavailability of security elements in its twelve practices. In order to examine this matter more closely, we conducted a systematic literature review (SLR) and studied literature for the years 2001-2012. Our findings highlight that, in its current form, the FDD model partially supports the development of secure software. However, there is little research on this topic, as detailed information about the usage of secure software is rarely published. Thus, we have been able to conclude that the existing five phases of FDD have not been enough to develop secure software until recently. For this reason, security-based phase and practices in FDD need to be proposed.

in particular. Data management for muzaki, acceptance, and distribution and its report has been computerized, but have the disadvantage that is not integrated with one another and still use a computer that will reduce the efficiency of time management plus a few features that are less like making a donation receipt and report. This research aims to develop a Web-Based Shoe Damage Identification System in K2N Store using the Rapid Application Development (RAD) methodology and the Cosine Similarity method. This system is designed to help the process of automatically identifying shoe damage based on the description of the symptoms that the user inputs. There are several main menus in this system, namely Login, Damage, Symptoms, and Case Base, each of which supports an effective flow of damage and symptom data management. The Login menu is used for user authorization, while the Crash and Symptoms menu allows for the management of data on crash types and related symptoms. The Case Base menu serves as the main reference in the identification process with the Cosine method, where the system calculates the degree of similarity between the new damage description and the existing reference data. Based on the test results, this system is able to provide accurate damage identification results, taking into account the similarity of the symptom description mathematically. The use of the Cosine method in RAD has proven to be effective in producing a fast and flexible solution for K2N Store Stores. Thus, this system is expected to increase efficiency and accuracy in the process of identifying shoe damage, as well as provide better service to customers.

Discussions on agile software development methodologies have a tendency to develop into an argument between proponents of agile methods and proponents of more traditional process-oriented methodologies. The terminology used in these debates is often unhelpful, and in many cases are inaccurate and biased representations. It needs to be accepted that there are no “silver bullets” providing universal solutions (Jeffries, 2001). Bearing this in mind, the decision to adopt a particular software development methodology is a difficult one, and the decision to choose an agile method is no exception. In theory, as in practice, definitions and descriptions of the various agile methods are presented, yet the factors considered in the decision to adopt, or not adopt, an agile method are not addressed. While agile methodologies try to avoid the excessive use of procedures or tools (Beck & Fowler, 2001), one agile methodology, dynamic systems development method (DSDM), does recommend the use of appropriate tools during the development process (Coesmans, 2003). However, it appears that none of the available agile methodologies suggest a tool to assist decision makers at the project initiation phase, therefore, the debate on agile suitability is usually a debate on agile versus traditional methods (DeMarco & Boehm, 2002), rather than an examination of the suitability of agile methods for a particular project. While the “agile debate” rages, individual projects are not adequately assessed prior to the adoption of a method.

Abstract— Asy-Syifa Clinic is a Primary Health Care Clinic for BPJS Health Bengkulu, which is located at Jl. BengkuluFlamboyant. This paper describes the approach of a Business Object Architecture (BOA) development and implement it through a Dynamic Systems Development Method (DSDM) life-cycle environment with emphasis on end-user’s involvement and iterative prototyping. The Dynamic Business Object Architecture (DBOA) is used for supporting and embracing the conceptualisation and design approaches for specific application domains. Distinctively, the DBOA is treated as skeletal support and lifecycle basis for OO modelling construction. This paper is in response to assist the review of the initial submissions of OMGBODTF’s RFP for Common Business Objects and Business Object Facilities (BOR FP1) to model domain specific application frameworks.

Agile methods such as Dynamic Systems Development Method (DSDM), Extreme Programming (XP), SCRUM, Agile Modeling (AM) and Crystal Clear enable small teams to execute assigned task at their best. However, larger organizations aim at incorporating more Agile methods owing to the fact that its application is prevalently tailored for small teams. The scope in which large firms are interested will extend the original Agile methods to include larger teams, coordination, communication among teams and customers as well as oversight. Determining particular software method is always challenging for software companies especially when considering start-up, small to medium or large enterprises. Most of large organizations develop large-scale projects by teams of teams or teams of teams of teams. Therefore, most recognized Agile methods or first-generation methods such as XP and SCRUM need to be modified before they are employed in large organizations; which is not an easy task. Accomplishing said task would necessitate large organizations to pick and select from the scaling Agile methods in accommodating a single vision for large and multiple teams. Deciding the right choice requires wholesome understanding of the method including its strengths and weaknesses as well as when and how it makes sense. Therefore, the main aim of this paper is to review the existing literature of the utilized scaling Agile methods by defining, discussing and comparing them. In-depth reviews on the literature were performed to juxtapose the methods in impartial manner. In addition, the content analysis was used to analyse the resultant data. The result indicated that the DAD, LeSS, LeSS huge, SAFe, Spotify, Nexus and RAGE are the adopted scaling Agile methods at large organizations. They seem to be similar but there are discrepancies among them that take the form of team size, training and certification, methods and practices adopted, technical practices required and organizational type.
