Nonstational Dual Wavelet Frames in Sobolev Spaces

An explicit method for the construction of a tight wavelet frame generated by the Walsh polynomials with the help of extension principles was presented by Shah (Shah, 2013). In this article, we extend the notion of wavelet frames to periodic wavelet frames generated by the Walsh polynomials on R+ by using extension principles. We first show that under some mild conditions, the periodization of any wavelet frame constructed by the unitary extension principle is still a periodic wavelet frame on R + . Then, we construct a pair of dual periodic wavelet frames generated by the Walsh polynomials on R + using the machinery of the mixed extension principle and Walsh–Fourier transforms.

Asymptotic Property of Dual Frames of a Wavelet Frame Yielded by Several Refinable Functions

It is shown that there exists a frame wavelet with fast decay in the time domain and compact support in the frequency domain generating a wavelet system whose canonical dual frame cannot be generated by an arbitrary number of generators. We show that there exist wavelet frame generated by two functions which have good dual wavelet frames, but for which the canonical dual wavelet frame does not consist of wavelets, according to scaling functions.

Starting from any two compactly supported d-refinable function vectors in (L2(R))r with multiplicity r and dilation factor d, we show that it is always possible to construct 2rd wavelet functions with compact support such that they generate a pair of dual d-wavelet frames in L2(R) and they achieve the best possible orders of vanishing moments. When all the components of the two real-valued d-refinable function vectors are either symmetric or antisymmetric with their symmetry centers differing by half integers, such 2rd wavelet functions, which generate a pair of dual d-wavelet frames, can be real-valued and be either symmetric or antisymmetric with the same symmetry center. Wavelet frames from any d-refinable function vector are also considered. This paper generalizes the work in [5,12,13] on constructing dual wavelet frames from scalar refinable functions to the multiwavelet case. Examples are provided to illustrate the construction in this paper.

It is an open problem whether any pair of Bessel sequences with wavelet structure can be extended to a pair of dual frames by adding a pair of singly generated wavelet systems. We consider the particular case where the given wavelet systems are generated by the multiscale setup with trigonometric masks and provide a positive answer under extra assumptions. We also identify a number of conditions that are necessary for the extension to dual (multi-) wavelet frames with any number of generators, and show that they imply that an extension with two pairs of wavelet systems is possible. Along the way we provide examples that demonstrate the extra flexibility in the extension to dual pairs of frames compared with the more popular extensions to tight frames.

In this paper, we introduce the structure of nonuniform nonhomogeneous dual wavelet frames over non-Archimedean fields. A characterization of nonuniform nonhomogeneous dual wavelet frames in Sobolev spaces over non-Archimedean fields is obtained.

Wavelet analysis is a particular time-or space-scale representation of signals which has found a wide range of applications in physics, signal processing and applied Mathematics in the last few years. We show that there exist wavelet frame generated by two functions which have good dual wavelet frames, but for which the canonical dual wavelet frame does not consist of wavelets, according to scaling functions.

Vector‐valued frames were first introduced under the name of superframes by Balan in the context of signal multiplexing and by Han and Larson from the mathematical aspect. Since then, the wavelet and Gabor frames in have interested many mathematicians. The space models vector‐valued causal signal spaces because of the time variable being nonnegative. But it admits no nontrivial shift‐invariant system and thus no wavelet or Gabor frame since is not a group by addition (not as ). Observing that is a group by multiplication, we, in this paper, introduce a class of multiplication‐based dilation‐and‐modulation ( ) systems, and investigate the theory of frames in . Since is not closed under the Fourier transform, the Fourier transform does not fit . We introduce the notion of Θa transform in , and using Θa‐transform matrix method, we characterize frames, Riesz bases, and dual frames in and obtain an explicit expression of duals for an arbitrary given frame. An example theorem is also presented.

This paper is devoted to the computation of the index of a critical point for nonlinear operators with strong coefficient growth. These operators are associated with boundary value problems of the type \begin{center} $\displaystyle \sum_{|\alpha|=1}\mathscr{D}^{\alpha}\{\rho^{2}(u)\mathscr{D}^{\alpha}u+a_{\alpha}(x,\mathscr{D}^{1}u)\}=\lambda a_{0}(x,u,\mathscr{D}^{1}u),\ x\in\Omega$, $u(x)=0,\ x\in\partial\Omega$, \end{center} where $\Omega\subset\mathbf{R}^{n}$ is open, bounded and such that $\partial\Omega\in\mathbf{C}^{2}$, while $\rho: \mathbf{R} \to \mathbf{R}_{+}$ can have exponential growth. An index formula is given for such densely defined operators acting from the Sobolev space $W_0^{1,m}(\Omega)$ into its dual space. We consider different sets of assumptions for $m>2$ (the case of a real Banach space) and $m=2$ (the case of a real Hilbert space). The computation of the index is important for various problems concerning nonlinear equations: solvability, estimates for the number of solutions, branching of solutions, etc. The result of this paper are based upon recent results of the authors involving the computation of index of a critical point for densely defined abstract operators of type $(S_{+})$. The latter are based in turn upon a new degree theory for densely defined $(S_{+})$-mappings, which has also been developed by the authors in a recent paper. Applications of the index formula to the relevant bifurcation problems are also included.

The aim of this chapter is to guide the reader from elementary Fourier series expension to periodic Sobolev spaces on a simply connected smooth curve in \(\mathbb {R}^{2}\). In this tour we detail on dual spaces and compact embedding. This leads to the compactness of the double-layer operator and its adjoint. Moreover in the scale of Sobolev spaces we prove the mapping property of the single-layer and hypersingular operators. Then we treat the exterior Dirichlet problem for the Laplacian and derive its explicit solution on the unit circle in terms of the Fourier coefficients. The Fourier tour concludes with the first Garding inequality for a bilinear form which is basic in the BEM.

More generally, Banach function spaces are considered. We prove that the pointwise multipliers acting in a pair of fractional Sobolev spaces form the space of boundary traces of multipliers in a pair of weighted Sobolev space of functions in a domain.
