Preface

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) provides a comprehensive evaluation of higher education institutions in India. This study analyzes the performance of the top 50 medical, engineering, and management institutions in India based on the NIRF 2024 rankings. It also compares the scores of the last 5 years (2020–2024). Using secondary data from the NIRF website, five key parameters – teaching, learning, and resources (TLRs); research and professional practices (RPC); graduation outcomes (GO); outreach and inclusivity (OI); and Perception – were compared across these disciplines. ANOVA with post hoc tests was used to identify significant differences. According to the 2024 NIRF ranking, medical institutions lead in TLR, engineering institutions lead in RPC, and management scores highest in GO and OI. However, each discipline also has areas needing improvement, such as research in medicine, outreach in engineering, and teaching resources in management institutions. The study highlights the strengths and areas for enhancement in these disciplines, providing insights for improving the overall quality of higher education in India.

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru ranked as India’s top higher education institution under the 2024 National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF)-demonstrates academic and research excellence. However, the NIRF does not assess financial strategy, an essential component of long-term institutional sustainability. This study addresses that gap by analyzing IISc’s financial performance over a ten-year period (2014–2023). The analysis utilizes audited financial statements and employs trend analysis, compound annual growth rates (CAGR), financial ratio assessments, and income–expenditure composition breakdowns. The evaluation covers six key financial dimensions: revenue growth, expenditure management, net operating performance, capital investment, liquidity, and income diversification. The findings reveal a pattern of steady revenue growth, sustained capital investment, and consistent operating surpluses. Despite these strengths, IISc remains significantly dependent on government funding. Self-generated income has shown only modest improvement, highlighting a potential vulnerability in the face of shifting policy or funding environments. While IISc demonstrates strong financial management in several areas, its high dependency on external grants underscores the need for greater diversification of income sources. This study contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of financial performance in top-tier Indian universities and provides valuable insights for policymakers and administrators seeking to ensure long-term financial resilience alongside academic excellence.

The purpose of this study is to examine Web 2.0 usage in terms of website development and social media of top 300 higher education institutions (HEI) in India in terms of website and social media. Top 300+ institutions were selected from National Institutional Ranking Framework, India. Content analysis was used in terms of quantitative approach. All the selected institutions have website and one third of the institutions are on social media. One-fourth has unofficial accounts on social media. In totality no trend has been noticed in Web 2.0 usage of higher education institutions in India. This study is completely based on publicly available data regarding presence on website and social media. Outcomes suggest that HEI are using Web 2.0 applications but at a slow pace. This is the first research that draws an overall picture of the top institutions' Web 2.0 usage in India. The study provides academics with helpful information to better meet their user needs by effectively applying digital strategies.

The higher education institutions of India needed a proven quality assurance mechanism to build the confidence in the quality of higher education. The region lags at the bottom of international rankings on quality, with the exception of a handful of well-rated universities. Many non-academic media such as magazines, newspapers, career sites have measured institutional quality and provided ranking. The wide acceptance of such media rankings are questioned as mostly influenced participation by very few institutions and mainly used for admission campaign. The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India (GOI) in the year 2015 launched National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) to evaluate the institutions with India centric parameter and also to minimize the impact of media ranking run by non-academic agencies. The NIRF has gained its momentum and confidence of public as it covers all kind of institutions and transparency in result announcement. The national ranking was used as one of the criteria to decide Institutes of Eminence (IOE) when there was a tie-break among institutions. The paper reviews the NIRF ranking and its impact.

Ranking institutions of a country, continent or the entire world is not an easy task. However, there are certain agencies that regularly undertake such an exercise. In this paper we have considered Webometrics Ranking (WR) and National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) specific to India for our study. Various parameters have been compared citing their features. The methodology used by these rankings have been discussed such as WR depends on web presence and categorises institutions on the basis of Presence rank, Impact rank, Openness rank and Excellence rank whereas NIRF categorises on the basis of Graduation Outcomes, Learning Teaching & Resources, Outreach of students, Research and Professional Practice and Awareness. Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Maharashtra tops the list in Webometrics Rankings whereas Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai tops the list in NIRF rankings. An interpretation of these rankings along with their limitations have been given finally some conclusions have been drawn on the basis of the data.

This case study investigates placement trends at Deogiri Institute of Engineering and Management Studies (DIEMS) from 2013-14 to 2023-24, focusing on Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Mechanical Engineering (MECH), Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (ECE), Civil Engineering (CE), and Master of Business Administration (MBA) programs. The Photonics Research Centre of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University is a multidisciplinary research centre with members from the Electrical, Electronic and Information Engineering, Industrial and Systems Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Departments. The main objective of the group is to form the basis of collaborations among the members of the Group. The broad background of the members in the centre has led to synergism in a broad range of topics including fibre communication systems, fibre sensors, GaN-based detectors and light emitters and application of laser technology in GaNbased optoelectronic and electronic devices. In some cases we have already found useful applications of our work relevant to the need of Hong Kong. In the sections below we will introduce the three major areas of research in the field of photonics at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

The controllable system quantities in the base-case state are optimized to minimize some defined objective function subject to the base-case operating constraints. A 10-bus system is taken for investigation. The ED results obtained using EP are compared with those obtained using quadratic programming. Repurposing Electricity Access Research for the Global South: A Tale of Many Disconnects

This article describes the Blended Teaching and Learning methodologies and the pedagogical approaches that use Information and Communication Technologies in the field of Electrical and Computers Engineering (ECE) Education Programs. The paper also reflects the collaboration in the field of Online Engineering between the Technical University “Gh. Asachi” from Iasi, Romania and Menoufia University, Egypt, in the context of the Erasmus Plus Program of the European Union. In this paper, we have reviewed the recent documents of: European Society for Engineering Education, International Society for Engineering Education, Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, International Association of Online Engineering, and American Society for Engineering Education to identify the specific pedagogical characteristics used in the computerized training process. The integration of online laboratories in the engineering training process, the use of Virtual Learning Environments, the inclusion of Open Educational Resources are the strategies used in this project. The impact of using Massive Open Online Courses in Education Programs is also analyzed. The cooperation between our universities began in 2017 and have result in the publication of a number of articles in International Conferences Proceedings in 2018 and 2019: International Conference on Virtual Learning, eLearning and Software for Education, International Conference on Electromechanical and Energy Systems. <p>This paper presents a 3D guidance scheme for<br>\nUnmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). The proposed guidance scheme<br>\nis based on the sliding mode approach using nonlinear sliding<br>\nmanifolds. Generalized 3D kinematic equations are considered<br>\nhere during the design process to cater for the coupling between<br>\nlongitudinal and lateral motions. Sliding mode based guidance<br>\nscheme is then derived for the multiple-input multiple-output<br>\n(MIMO) system using the proposed nonlinear manifolds. Instead of<br>\ntraditional sliding surfaces, nonlinear sliding surfaces are proposed<br>\nhere for performance and stability in all flight conditions. In the<br>\nreaching phase control inputs, the bang-bang terms with signum<br>\nfunctions are accompanied with proportional terms in order to reduce<br>\nthe chattering amplitudes. The Proposed 3D guidance scheme is<br>\nimplemented on a 6-degrees-of-freedom (6-dof) simulation of a UAV<br>\nand simulation results are presented here for different 3D trajectories<br>\nwith and without disturbances.</p>

India suffers from gender inequity in education, employment, marriage, and healthcare; violence against women is at high and gender bias is prevalent even in premier institutes in India. There are instances of discrimination, mental torture or harassment at work place and women suffer from psychological trauma or ill mental health. The incidents of gang rape and brutal torture to women and girls continue to make the headlines of Indian newspapers and televisions. Furthermore, there is gender discrimination in healthcare; while e-health technology can tailor the services to the specific needs of the women this promise is yet to explore in its full potential. Although the scope of Information and Communication Technology use in healthcare (e-health) is very wide but its usage and penetration level is still low especially among women in India. The author reviews the current status of gender health, advocates health literacy, use of e-health tools and strategies to prioritise women and girls' healthcare in order to ensure equity and empowerment. This article also focuses on women specific laws administered by government of India to achieve gender justice.
