Preface The 6th International Conference on Agriculture (ICAGRI) 2024 marks another significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to advancing sustainable agriculture. Building upon the success of our previous conferences, this year’s event continues to bring together a diverse array of academics, researchers, policy makers, and professionals from around the globe. Our theme, “Promoting Agroecology and Climate-Smart Agriculture for Environmental Resilience, Biodiversity, and Sustainability”, highlight the critical importance of sustainable agricultural practices. We recognize that sustainable agriculture must be ecologically sound, economically valuable, and socially just. It requires strategies that respect diversity, employ integrative approaches, maintain a long-term perspective, and ensure equality and sustainability. This year, we are pleased to report that the conference received 131 submitted papers. After a rigorous review process, 105 papers were accepted for presentation directly in Hermes Palace Hotel, Banda Aceh. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who have contributed to the success of this conference. It is with great honor; we present the proceeding of the 4th International Conference of Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture in The Tropics (IC-FSSAT) 2023, which was organized by the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Hasanuddin, and held online in the 15 – 16 February 2023. The proceeding of the previous conferences in this series has been published in the IOP conference series: Earth and Environmental Sciences (EES).The proceeding of the 4th IC-FSSAT consists of 225 reviewed papers across 10 main scopes; (i) Industrial-scale Agriculture, (ii) Food Agribusiness and Rural Development, (iii) Food Agribusiness and Rural Development, (iv) Biodiversity, Soil Health and Agricultural Practices (v) Integrated Pest and Disease Management, (vi) Plant Breeding and Biotechnology (vii) Agricultural Engineering, (viii) Digital Farming, (ix) Food Processing, Safety and Diversification and (x) Crop Production System. In addition to the excellent paper presentations at the conference, the conference also featured nine keynote and invited speakers with expertise in the field of the conference’s subjects. With the theme “Empowering Science and Transforming Communities through STEM Education,” SEA-STEM 2020 aims to be a scientific meeting among researchers and educators in STEM fields. In conjunction with the Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand Growth Triangle University Network (IMT-GT UNINET) STEM meeting, SEA-STEM 2020 is also intended to initiate a STEM movement in South East Asia region. The conference was planned to be a part of a one week STEM carnivals where we expected all participants to meet in Universitas Syiah Kuala’s campus. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we should replace the physical conference with the virtual one. The three-day conference has been successfully concluded with 9 keynote speakers and 36 parallel sessions involving 234 presentations. The first keynote session was held on the first day of the conference (October 20, 2021) with three keynote speakers including Prof. Dato’ Noraini Idris (Chair of National STEM Movement Malaysia), Prof. Tom Lowrie (Director of Early Learning STEM Australia), and Assoc. Prof. Rachel Sheffield (Curtin University, Australia) delivered their keynote talks for 40 minutes. On the second day, 50-minute keynote speeches were delivered by Dr. Carol O’Donnell (Director of Smithsonian Science Education Center, USA), Prof. Kiichiro Kagawa (Fukui University, Japan), Dr. Indrawati, M.Pd (Director of SEAMEO Qitep in Science, Indonesia) and Prof. Nasser Mansour (Exeter University, UK and Egypt). On the last day, our USG Partner of the USAID PEER Project Dist. Prof. Eugenia Etkina (the ISLE Inventor-Graduate School of Education, Rutgers University, USA) and her research partner Prof. Gorazd Planinsic (University of Ljubljana, Slovenia), in one-hour talks, shared their long-time efforts in developing the Investigative Science Learning Environment (ISLE) approach for instructions and assessments in teaching physics. For keynote sessions we provided a 500-person virtual meeting room and based on the attendance records, about 250-350 participants attended the keynote sessions. On the other hand, for each parallel session, we organized six 100-person virtual meeting rooms that were assigned for parallel talks based on the topics of presentations. In each parallel session meeting room, 4-8 speakers delivered their presentation including the Q&A session in 15 minutes per presenter. Presenters of the conferences are researchers and educators in STEM fields who came from several countries including Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippine, Thailand, China, Japan, Hungary, Nigeria, Macedonia, Germany, UK, Egypt, Australia, Slovenia, and the USA. The virtual conference majorly depended on the reliability of the internet connection and the video conferencing and webinars platform. We hired a third party technical team that has successfully handled the technical aspects of the keynote and parallel sessions. We experienced some technical glitches during the opening ceremony and keynote talks on the first day, such as the voice of the keynote speakers and the national anthem cannot be heard, but the technical team learn from this experience and the keynote and parallel sessions on the next days were successfully held without glitches. We received 257 paper submissions and after a careful review process, 165 of the manuscripts are published in this proceedings. The published papers are divided into 7 tracks including Physics & Physics Education, Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Biology & Biology Education, Chemistry & Chemistry Education, Technology and Engineering, and STEM Education. We hope that the papers will provide new thoughts, ideas, and inspiration for us to improve STEM education in Indonesia as well as in South East Asia. We learned from this experience that even though the virtual conference was a success, a physical conference would provide more interactive engagements among the presenters and participants. However, we realize that the virtual conference enable us to invite that many experts from all around the world to discuss about STEM and STEM education. This might not be possible if we hold a physical conference. Feedback from participants was mostly positive and a community of scholars and educators who work in STEM research and education consisting of former participants of the conference has been established. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the NAS and USAID and Institute of Research and Community Service (LPPM) Universitas Syiah Kuala, which provided the financial support for SEA-STEM 2020. We also would like to extend our gratitude to all reviewers for their benevolent assistance in reviewing the manuscripts and to all keynote speakers, participants, and presenters of SEA-STEM 2020 for their great contributions to the conference. We hope the development of STEM and STEM education in the South East Asia region will thrive that will benefit not only the countries in the region, but also the world in general. Proceeding THE 4th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON FOOD SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING (ICFSE) 2022 11-12 October 2022, Surakarta, Indonesia ICFSE is a biannual conference held by the Department of Food Science and Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sebelas Maret since 2016. This event is in collaboration with partner universities and/or organizations around the world. This conference covers the field of Food Science and Engineering. It aims to drive collaboration between scholars, practitioners, private sectors, and policy makers within the field. The conference is mainly supported by the Department of Food Science and Technology, Universitas Sebelas Maret, Indonesia.This proceeding contains the papers presented in the 4th ICFSE organized in 2022. The papers involve sessions on physical modification of foods, food chemistry and analysis, instrumental techniques for food analysis, food microstructure development and characterization, food properties including thermal, chemical, and mechanical properties, rapid detection of food contamination, macronutrient, micronutrient, and functional properties, chemistry of food additives and preservatives, food processing and engineering, food packaging, sustainable food production, food waste utilization, mathematical modeling and software development for food processing purposes, application of artificial intelligence in food engineering, food supply chain management system and food nutrigenomics for health.We would like to thank all the participants attending this conference and also the committees for their contributions to this conference and its overall success. The use of plastic materials as packaging for Qurban (refers to the act of sacrificing an animal during the Islamic festival of Eid al-Adha) meat is indeed more practical, but its characteristic of being non-biodegradable poses environmental problems. Therefore, an alternative packaging solution using plant leaves needs to be explored. Teak leaves, a forestry plant, contain antimicrobial properties that can inhibit the growth of pathogens, thus extending the shelf life of meat at room temperature. This approach has a positive impact on the distribution of Qurban meat, as it maintains quality while being environmentally safe. The utilization of teak leaves as wrapping material for meat is a part of the Green Qurban 1444 H activity at Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) in Banda Aceh. The committee is responsible for managing a total of 11 goats and 9 cows, with the meat distributed among 13 villages, resulting in 578 portions. The teak leaves used for wrapping correspond to the respective meat portions. In conclusion, the use of teak leaves in the Green Qurban 1444 H activity at USK serves the dual purpose of supporting the environmentally friendly concept by replacing plastic and maintaining the quality of the meat.

Sustainability is a holistic goal that can be effectively achieved through the combined efforts of agriculture and its allied sectors. Artificial intelligence (AI) plays a transformative role in this endeavour by bridging sector-specific solutions and integrating them to promote environmental protection and food security. AI is revolutionizing sustainable agriculture, ensuring both food security and environmental protection. The main objective of this article is to comprehensively review the various applications of AI in agriculture and its interlinked sectors like fishery, animal husbandry, forestry, agricultural engineering, horticulture and food science by compiling several previous studies to highlight their role in achieving sustainability and identify research gaps. The literature review was done through databases like Scopus and Google Scholar. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) framework was used to identify, screen and select articles. This article explores the various applications of AI in pest and disease management, weed management, weather forecasting, soil management, greenhouse farming, precision agriculture and yield management. AI has numerous advantages, such as data-driven decision-making, resource management and reduced environmental impacts. This review highlights the implementation of inclusive strategies to achieve sustainability by pointing out the gaps in research, policy and implementation of technologies. The review concludes that integrating AI into agriculture and its allied sectors offer significant benefits that outweigh potential drawbacks, thereby fostering sustainable practices and environmentally friendly innovations.

Barangan Merah is a potential type of banana to be developed under in vitro condition. Acclimatization is the final stage in the propagation by in vitro culture. The use of acclimatization medium from organic materials in the surrounding environment can be an alternative in acclimatization process. This study aims to obtain the optimal organic medium in acclimatization process for the growth of Barangan Merah banana seedlings resulting from in vitro culture. The planting material used plantlets from in vitro regeneration of banana cv. Barangan Merah from Tissue Culture Laboratory, Agricultural Faculty, Universitas Syiah Kuala. The experiment used the individual pot technique with the application of organic medium types, namely husk charcoal, sand, leaf litter compost, and oil palm fruit bunches compost. The results of this research showed that the highest number of seedlings that were still survive until the end of the acclimatization process was found in the husk charcoal medium (71.43%). The best seedling growth according to the increasing of leaves number, leaf size, and plant height in the acclimatization process was found in leaf litter compost medium.

This conference is organized by Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Andalas University in collaboration with Faculty of Plantation and Agrotechnology, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia, and supported by University of Ehime University, Japan; Universiti Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, Indonesian; Universiti Technology Brunei, Brunei, and Punjab Agriculture University, India.ICSAB 2021 is the four conference held by the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Andalas University. The theme of the conference this year is “Toward Sustainable Agricultural and Biosystem in a Pandemic”. Although this conference is carried out when the world faced the Covid-19 Pandemic, however, It did not reduce the enthusiasm of researchers to participate in this event. Through this, we are proud to provide an appropriate platform for discussion and information transfer of current research, new technological innovation, and practical applications in disciplines relating to sustainable agriculture.132 papers will be presented orally and through poster presentations during this conference. The schedule for oral presentations and abstracts for all presentations are printed in this booklet.
