PROACTIVE MONITORING FOR SMEs USING APPINSIGHT

It is desirable for web applications to be reusable, for example in case a vendor wants to deliver new valuable services by using and combining existing applications quickly. One of the well-known ways of reusing web applications, Mashup, has become popular in the web development community and applied to many open web sites, as we can just combine the data retrieved from Web pages or APIs of the web applications. But in the case of the Mashup of enterprise web applications, or Enterprise Mashup, it is quite difficult since these applications are often not intended to be reusable and have no Web APIs. That means we have to create the Web APIs for the applications, which takes much work. In this paper, we describe a light-weight Web API creation methodology in order to create Web APIs for enterprise web applications much more easily than we can by extending the source code. The created Web API can connect to the web application just as a client who has an account does. So we can create a Web API for Enterprise Mashup without modifying the application at all and we can call the Web API securely using the user account information of the application. We developed the implementation of our methodology and applied it to actual applications to evaluate its effectiveness.

An increasing number of Danish local governments use green web applications, which are websites intended to convince users to reduce energy consumption in order to mitigate climate change. However, to date, no empirical evidence has been published that demonstrates whether green web applications have this intended effect. This paper, based on a survey of 329 Danish small and medium enterprises (SMEs), examines the perceived effects of a green web application named klimabevidst.dk (which can be translated as climateawareness.dk) and explores the motivation of SMEs to use the application. As 29–56 % of SMEs declare that the application has had a medium or large energy reduction effect on their businesses, the paper concludes that klimebevidst.dk can be a relevant component in local government climate change mitigation campaigns aimed at small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This paper also shows that the perceived effects of using the web application correlate strongly with the extent to which the web application is used (i.e. with the number of the application’s energy reduction guides read). Moreover, the perceived effect is larger in smaller SMEs, in SMEs that prioritise climate change and the health of their employees, and in SMEs that do not prioritise economic benefits. The present study is, however, unable to quantify the reduction; further study is needed to produce a more refined picture of the role played by the web application in increasing energy efficiency.

Web application have gained increased acceptance over the years in companies and organization as the world move to a global village. Software developers have also grown interest in developing web applications compared to stand-alone application because of the immense benefits it offers such as ubiquity, platform dependence, low cost of support and maintenance, better speed and performance, piracy proof etc. As mobile application emerged in the last decade, attention has been focused on mobile applications by organizations and businesses in order to maximize their profits as much as possible. There has been a rapid increase of software release in the mobile applications store. As the growth of both web application and mobile application increase, the question of quality assurance remains a concern. A comparative study of software testing techniques can be performed to improve the standard of testing of both web and mobile application. This paper therefore reviews the similarity and difference in the testing mechanism.

Cloud computing is an emerging information technology (IT) paradigm which undoubtedly has received significant attention from different spheres of influence. The cloud computing concept entails the provisioning of computing resources from remote locations to individuals or organizations over the internet at anytime. The technology is associated with several benefits but the reduction in capital and operational expenditure is the major one. The importance of IT innovations to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and the role of SMEs in economic growth have been demonstrated empirically. However, literature indicate that SMEs in developing economies are not taking the advantages of emerging technologies like cloud computing to improve operational excellence within their organizations. An in-depth review of academic publications, technical reports, and industry white papers on cloud computing has confirmed security and privacy is-sues as some of the key inhibitors to cloud computing adoption among SMEs. This is probably because the customer data is released to remote locations, which are invisible, and data is accessed over the internet, which is already over-whelmed with malicious attackers. This study explores the reasons for the lack of cloud computing adoption among SMEs in developing economies. When the rea-sons for this lag are identified, cloud computing service providers, technology policy makers, entrepreneurs and SMEs executives will be provided with the opportunity to develop appropriate solutions and strategies that will specifically meet the needs of SMEs in developing economies. This will promote and accelerate the acceptance rate of cloud services. When SMEs utilize cloud computing as an IT strategy, business growth becomes inevitable and the country's economic growth is witnessed.

The advent of cloud computing has significantly transformed the business landscape globally, offering a plethora of opportunities for organizations to enhance their operational efficiency and competitiveness. This paper aims to review and analyze the impact of cloud computing specifically on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the African context. As cloud computing continues to gain traction worldwide, its implications for SMEs in Africa, which constitute a significant portion of the region's economic fabric, become increasingly crucial. The study will adopt a comprehensive approach, combining both qualitative and quantitative methodologies to assess the various dimensions of cloud computing adoption among SMEs in Africa. It will delve into the challenges faced by SMEs in embracing cloud technology, including issues related to infrastructure, data security, and skill gaps. Additionally, the paper will explore the potential benefits derived from the adoption of cloud solutions, such as cost savings, scalability, and improved accessibility to advanced technologies. Furthermore, the research will investigate the role of government policies, industry collaborations, and infrastructure development in shaping the cloud computing landscape for SMEs in Africa. By examining case studies and success stories, the paper will highlight best practices and identify potential strategies for overcoming barriers to adoption. The findings of this review aim to contribute valuable insights for policymakers, business leaders, and technology providers to formulate effective strategies that promote the widespread adoption of cloud computing among SMEs in Africa. Ultimately, the research seeks to enhance our understanding of the dynamics surrounding cloud technology in the African SME sector and provide recommendations for fostering a conducive environment for its sustainable and inclusive growth.

MaPLoRds is a software system developed to enable local municipality users to assess the resilience of their local road network from natural hazards in climate-changing conditions. The system analyzes the characteristics of the road network, vulnerability, and climate-related hazards, to evaluate the network’s resilience. A tool for mobile devices (mobile application) is developed to facilitate the data collection in the field and a web application is developed for data analysis, resilience, and priority assessment based on the methodology. The bilingual glossary, in Serbian and English, is produced for the developed version of the application, introducing key terms and phrases that are required for the MaPLoRds interface, both for mobile and web application. The system is developed according to the highest industry standards and by Platform Security and Personal Data Protection rules. Personal Data of the users (e.g., password) are stored in encrypted form in the central database, while all other non-sensitive data are not encrypted. In recent years, the number of users and service providers are increasing in using cloud services so the accessibility and the effective management of the required resources, irrespective of the time and place, seem to be of great importance for both sides.Improving the performance and utilization of the cloud systems are gained by the auto-scaling of the applications; this is because of the fact that, some approaches have been proposed for auto scaling.This paper seeks to checking some value, based on the learning automata, for the scalability of the web applications, which combines virtual machine clusters and the learning automata in order to provide the best possible way for the scaling up and scaling down of the virtual machines.The results of this study indicate how an increased capacity of virtual machine which have been done by the value of thresholds could effect on SLA and overhead of responding.

Recently, several frameworks have been developed for writing mobile and web applications in Java, making the development of web and mobile applications accessible to HCI students with only a CS1 Java background. In this paper we describe using student projects based on the Google Android mobile platform and Google's Web Toolkit to provide students with experience designing and implementing user interfaces for mobile and web applications. Specific examples demonstrate how programming on these platforms reinforces standard HCI topics. As a result of being able to learn mobile device programming in the context of cool Google platforms, students expressed increased interest in studying HCI.

Over the past years, Thai small and medium enterprises (SME) had to deal with changing economic situations and had to adapt to new technological evolutions, representing new challenges as well as new opportunities for doing business. With the forthcoming ASEAN Economic Community 2015, Thai SMEs will face an increase in competition and, as a possible solution, may have to adopt new information systems to remain competitive. The objectives of this study are (1) to identify the factors facilitating or hindering the adoption of cloud-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems by Thai SMEs and to (2) provide an analysis of the adoption and the implementation strategies. The research is based on a qualitative exploratory approach, relying on semistructured interviews with IT experts, IT managers and business owners to collect data, and on the template analysis method to analyze the data. Respondents have identified trust, cost control and the security of financial data as the most important factors for the adoption and selection of on-premise and cloud-based ERP systems. The adoption rate of cloud-based solutions appears to be low and local ERP providers face the challenge to discover the reasons why business owners do not adopt their solutions. First generation business owners prepare the transition to the next generation and want to better organize and structure how their businesses operates, but their own confidence in the technology still limit the adoption pace and the decision process. SMEs' strategies usually consist in a step-by-step implementation, consolidating the changes and readjusting the goals in case of setbacks, minimizing the consequences. ERP providers' strategies focus on new offerings with enhanced features and slowly integrate change management and extended support. In today's digital era and globalization, many small and medium business (SME) businesses are adopting cloud computing for the company's operations. Cloud computing is a growing data center technology in line with increas-ing traffic on the internet in the era of the Internet of Things (IoT). This technology overcomes the weaknesses of conven-tional servers for speed, scalability, and efficiency. However, there are still SMEs who are not sure of the benefits of cloud services. Therefore, this research is conducted to explore the opinions of SMEs about the benefits of cloud computing ser-vices in their business operations that encourage them to adopt this service. The qualitative research method is conducted by interviewing the top management of a number of SMEs engaged in the information and communication technology (ICT) industry. SMEs are domiciled in Jakarta and Bandung, Indonesia and have been using cloud computing platform services. The results found that the most perceived benefits of cloud computing are cost savings because it can reduce cap-ital expenditures, such as procurement of computers with high performance and purchase their own server by SMEs. On the other hand, the service enhances the company's internal organizational processes to accelerate decision making, expand markets, and speed up communication with customers. However, the security aspect and the limited provision of infrastructure remain a challenge for the adoption of cloud computing in SMEs in Indonesia. The company's effective strategy is considered to be able to minimize the negative impact of this challenge.

Starting a business in many regions involves obtaining approvals from various regulatory bodies, often resulting in delays due to manual processes, lack of system integration, and procedural inefficiencies. This paper proposes the development of a Smart Approval System, a web and mobile application designed to automate and streamline the business registration and approval process. The platform integrates with existing government portals such as GST, ROC, and MSME, automating compliance verification and significantly reducing processing time. It leverages blockchain technology to ensure data integrity and secure authentication. Features include step-by-step guided registration, real-time progress tracking, and in-app payment processing. A cloud-based backend developed using Python supports robust data management, while a user-centric UI/UX provides guided workflows for entrepreneurs. Role-based authentication is implemented for entrepreneurs, government officials, and consultants. The Smart Approval System introduces an efficient, secure, and scalable approach to modernizing regulatory approval systems. The Evolving Landscape of Cloud Storage Security: A Focus on Hybrid Cryptography Techniques Data security and privacy have become paramount concerns for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) contemplating the migration of their data from on-premises storage to cloud-based solutions. This apprehension stems from the perceived lack of control over data stored with cloud service providers (CSPs). The concern lies in the potential for unfettered access by CSPs to a client's sensitive information. Additionally, there is a prevailing sentiment that current safeguards are inadequate in preventing unauthorized access and data modification within cloud infrastructures. While some CSPs have implemented symmetric and asymmetric cryptographic techniques to bolster security, this paper delves deeper into the realm of emerging hybrid cryptography techniques, specifically in the context of cloud storage security. Case Study: Secure Storage Web Application This section details the "Secure Storage" web application, designed to provide users with a secure platform for file management and storage. Developed using Python and the Flask framework, the application prioritizes user privacy by encrypting uploaded files with the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm before persisting them on the server. User authentication is meticulously handled, with passwords stored as irreversible hashes within a SQLite database, mitigating the risk of password exposure in the event of a security breach. Upon registering, users are granted the ability to upload files, which are subsequently encrypted using AES with a pre-defined key. These encrypted files are then stored within a designated directory on the server. Users can download their encrypted files at any time, with on-the-fly decryption occurring during the download process. The application demonstrably prioritizes user privacy and data security by leveraging industry-standard encryption practices and robust user authentication mechanisms. Additionally, it offers an intuitive interface that facilitates the secure storage and retrieval of files

At present the web applications are used for most of the life activities, these applications are affected by an attack called (Structure Query Language Injection Attack) SQLIA due to the vulnerabilities of the web application. The vulnerabilities of the web application are increased because most of application developers do not care to security in designing.SQL injection is a common attack that infects a web application. The attacker adds (Structured Query Language) SQL code to web page for accessing and changing victim databases.The vital step in securing the database and detecting such an attack in web apps is preparing a tool. Many researchers propose different ways for detection and prevention of such as an attack. In this paper a tool it proposed using a powerful micro-framework web application designer called Flask in Python 3.7 to detect and prevent such attacks. The proposed system is called SQLIAD. SQLIAD analyzed a web application on-line.

PurposeIn the context of overcoming malnutrition in elementary school children and increasing public awareness of this issue, the Indonesian Government has created a “Card for Healthy School Children” (KMS-AS) program in the form of a paper health card. However, currently, the KMS-AS record data are still written on paper, which is less effective in terms of the health process. An integrated measuring device and an online data-recording system are needed to promote children’s health and facilitate access and transfer of data from one place to another. This study aims to develop NFC and IoT-based KMS-AS using sensor fusion method.Design/methodology/approachThe results of this study show that an integrated measuring device for weight, height, body temperature and Spo2 level can be connected with mobile and Web applications using IoT technology, facilitating data recording and monitoring of children’s nutritional status. The sensor fusion method was used for the classification of nutritional status and health status, based on the results of measurement tools. Near field communication (NFC) technology was used to facilitate user identification when making measurements.FindingsThe results show that KMS-AS can facilitate classification of nutritional status and children's health status. Measurement and classification data can be monitored via Web and mobile applications. The accuracy of height, weight, body temperature and Spo2 measurements was 98.21%, 98.59%, 98.93% and 98.93%, respectively.Originality/valueIn this research, the authors successfully produced a system using sensor fusion method for measuring body weight, height, temperature and Spo2 level, which is integrated and can be connected to mobile applications and the Web using the IoT and NFC.

This paper explores the emergence and adoption of cloud computing by small and medium‐sized enterprises (SMEs) and points towards its implications for developing countries in sub‐Saharan Africa. Several studies have shown the importance of technologies to SMEs and the potentials of SMEs for economic growth. Using qualitative techniques we obtained and analysed data from ten SMEs that have adopted cloud computing as an IT strategy. These SMEs span across various sectors including finance, information and communication technology (ICT), and manufacturing in Nigeria, a developing country in sub‐Saharan Africa. We found that, contrary to the literature on cloud computing adoption in the global north, these SMEs are less concerned with challenges like security, privacy and data loss rather; they continue to show optimism in using the potential opportunities that cloud computing presents to them. We envisage that as cloud computing evolves, more SMEs in sub‐Saharan Africa will adopt it as an IT Strategy. This could positively contribute to the successes of these SMEs and consequently contribute to the economic growth desired by these developing countries.
