QoS optimization for thermal-aware cyber-physical systems

These days, more and more researchers are getting influenced by the big data analytics. “The big data is termed as the dataset, whose size is beyond the processing ability of conventional database or computers”. The four major aspects related to big data are: capture, store, management and analysis. The size of the data is a major concern in whichever field the big data is involved. Managing large scale data along with a commendable performance in defined frame of time is an issue in the big data analytics. In order to solve this issue optimization of the dataset is required. The swarm intelligence came out to be very much effective in networks. So, the proposed approach provides Quality of Service (QoS) optimization in networks through swarm intelligence algorithm for sustainable big data management. Swarm Intelligence optimization techniques have been emerged and successfully adopted by various researchers in recent times. As these techniques are nature inspired so, they proved to be much more effective in achieving better optimization results. So the proposed research work presented in this paper utilizes Swarm Intelligence Inspired Intelligent Water Drop (IWD) algorithm for throughput optimization for big data analytics in Zone Routing Protocol (ZRP) protocol of Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET).

In Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), cyber and physical components must work seamlessly in tandem. Runtime verification of CPS is essential yet very difficult, due to deployment environments that are expensive, dangerous, or simply impossible to use for verification tasks. A key enabling factor of runtime verification of CPS is the ability to integrate real-time simulations of portions of the CPS into live running systems. We propose a verification approach that allows CPS application developers to opportunistically leverage real-time simulation to support runtime verification. Our approach, termed B race B ind , allows selecting, at runtime, between actual physical processes or simulations of them to support a running CPS application. To build B race B ind , we create a real-time simulation architecture to generate and manage multiple real-time simulation environments based on existing simulation models in a manner that ensures sufficient accuracy for verifying a CPS application. Specifically, B race B ind aims to both improve simulation speed and minimize latency, thereby making it feasible to integrate simulations of physical processes into the running CPS application. B race B ind then integrates this real-time simulation architecture with an existing runtime verification approach that has low computational overhead and high accuracy. This integration uses an aspect-oriented adapter architecture that connects the variables in the cyber portion of the CPS application with either sensors and actuators in the physical world or the automatically generated real-time simulation. Our experimental results show that, with a negligible performance penalty, our approach is both efficient and effective in detecting program errors that are otherwise only detectable in a physical deployment.

The design of hardware-friendly architectures with low computational overhead is desirable for low latency realization of CNN on resource-constrained embedded platforms. In this work, we propose CAxCNN, a Canonic Sign Digit (CSD) based approximation methodology for representing the filter weights of pre-trained CNNs.The proposed CSD representation allows the use of multipliers with reduced computational complexity. The technique can be applied on top of state-of-the-art CNN quantization schemes in a complementary manner. Our experimental results on a variety of CNNs, trained on MNIST, CIFAR-10 and ImageNet datasets, demonstrate that our methodology provides CNN designs with multiple levels of classification accuracy, without requiring any retraining, and while having a low area and computational overhead. Furthermore, when applied in conjunction with a state-of-art quantization scheme, CAxCNN allows the use of multipliers, which offer 77% logic area reduction, as compared to their accurate counterpart, while incurring a drop in Top-1 accuracy of just 5.63% for a VGG-16 network trained on ImageNet.

Routing is an important issue in WSNs with the sensor nodes having limited processing power, memory etc. In this paper we present a query-based routing protocol for a WSN that provides different classes of Quality of Service (QoS) in terms of energy-efficiency, reliability, low latency and fault tolerance for different application requirements. The algorithm has low computational overhead while guaranteeing different QoS support based on the application demand. The novelty of the proposed algorithm is the ability to provide multiple QoS support without having to reconfigure or redeploy sensor nodes. The performance of the algorithm has been evaluated by implementing it on network simulator NS-2 with 802.15.4 libraries. The results show that the algorithm gives good performance statistics for the designed QoS terms thereby satisfying the goal of the design.

Web service composition (WSC) is the task of combining a chain of connected single services together to create a more complex and value-added composite service. Quality of service (QoS) has been mostly applied to represent nonfunctional properties of web services and differentiate those with the same functionality. Many research has been done on QoS-aware service composition, as it significantly affects the quality of a composite service. However, existing methods are restricted to predefined workflows, which can incur a couple of limitations, including the lack of guarantee for the optimality on overall QoS and for the completeness of finding a composite service solution. In this paper, instead of predefining a workflow model for service composition, we propose a novel planning-based approach that can automatically convert a QoS-aware composition task to a planning problem with temporal and numerical features. Furthermore, we use state-of-the-art planners, including an existing one and a self-developed one, to handle complex temporal planning problems with logical reasoning and numerical optimization. Our approach can find a composite service graph with the optimal overall QoS value while satisfying multiple global QoS constraints. We implement a prototype system and conduct extensive experiments on large web service repositories. The experimental results show that our proposed approach largely outperforms existing ones in terms of solution quality and is efficient enough for practical deployment.

<p>Quality of service (QoS) is essential for carrying out data transmission using resource-constrained sensor nodes in wireless sensor network (WSN). The introduction of mobile agent-based data aggregation is reported to offer energy efficiency; however, it has limitations, especially using a single mobile agent, where QoS optimization is not feasible. A review of existing studies showcases some dedicated attempts to use a mobile agent-based approach and address QoS enhancements. However, they were never combined studied. Therefore, this paper introduces a unique concept of retaining maximum QoS performance during data aggregation using a single mobile agent. The model introduces a unique communication framework, transmission provisioning using exceptional routine management, and simplified energy modeling. The proposed model has aimed for a lower delay and faster data aggregation speed with lower consumption of transmittance energy. The implementation and assessment of the model are carried out considering the challenging environment of WSN with multiple scales of data priority. The proposed model also contributes to evolving out with simplified communication vectors in a highly decentralized method. MATLAB's simulation outcome shows that the proposed system offers better delay performance, optimal energy management, and faster response time than existing schemes.</p>

This study aims to examine the service quality factors that influence patient loyalty in Indonesian hospitals. Service quality is a crucial aspect in maintaining and enhancing patient trust and loyalty. This literature review identifies five key dimensions of service quality: reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy, and tangibles. Each dimension plays a significant role in shaping patient loyalty, through consistent service delivery, quick responses, medical staff competence, personal attention, and the quality of physical facilities. Several studies indicate that patient satisfaction also acts as a mediator between service quality and loyalty, good service increases satisfaction, ultimately affecting patient loyalty. Amid the intense competition in healthcare services in Indonesia, optimal service quality is a key factor in patient retention. Therefore, hospital management must focus on each service quality dimension to create a satisfying patient experience. The findings of this review are expected to guide hospitals in developing effective strategies for improving service quality to retain and increase patient loyalty.

This chapter introduces basic needs of quality of Service (QoS) of RF ad hoc networks (mainly wireless), presents the main metrics of quality of service and the QoS effects on overall performance, and briefly discusses quality of service of wireless systems with respect to the upcoming new technologies like 3GPP LTE and the role of WLAN, while representing network QoS improvement and optimization tools and their successful applications in performance analysis. The chapter focuses on IEEE 802.11e, the main revision of the 802.11 for better QoS provisioning, as well as the coordination between planning and the performance of systems for better QoS. Additionally, it addresses the current and new trends of QoS stuff for different cellular networks and their impact on the QoS of ad-hoc networks. The chapter also explores new trends of QoS of emerging networks like the WiMAX and 4G and looks to the probable hybrid networks of the future and their QoS aspects.

The development of 3G mobile networks is attended by revolutionary changes in the telecommunication and service technologies of mobile systems. There have been impressive rates of evolution from circuit switching (CS) to packet switching (PS) and IP protocols; from monoservice voice systems, operating on CS principles, to multiservice PS system for integrated transmission of fast data, voice, video etc. with differentiation and quality of service (QoS) control. The amount of traffic with access to broadband Internet services is rapidly increasing. The time principles of payment are substituted by accounts for data volume and quality of service. The new technologies require development of new methods of traffic theory, optimization and design. It is necessary to change from one-dimensional Erlang models for homogeneous traffic in point-to-point channels to develop the theory of the multi-dimensional distributed queues with priority service for integrated traffic in multi-point radio channels with multiple access. This article presents such new methods for the analysis of traffic, optimization and dynamic QoS control for 3rd generation mobile networks, taking GPRS systems as an example. The offered solutions are based on the development of a numerical method of balancing traffic intensities (see Markhasin, A.B., 2nd All-Union Confer. on Multiple Access Systems, pt1, p.146-52, 1999; Markhasin, A.B. and Kokoreva, E.V., Proc. VI Business-Forum Mobile Systems'01, vol.1, pp.175-81, 2001), and also on the development of our results concerning the analysis of traffic, optimization and dynamic QoS control in integrated packet satellite and radio ATM networks (see Markhasin, IEEE Int. Conf. on Communications, p.1914-18, 2001).

This paper presents a new technique for jointly optimizing energy consumption and quality of service (QoS) in heterogeneous cellular networks employing fractional frequency reuse (FFR) in the macrocell tier. The proposed technique combines radio resource management (RRM) and network routing principles to produce an effective way of utilizing the spectrum. Based on a novel method of interference mapping, the RRM is invoked, in distributed or centralized manner, to allocate the resource. In the case of centralized RRM, network routing is applied to maximize spectrum utilization. It will be shown through matching mathematical analysis and computer simulations that, relative to existing well known techniques, the proposed technique offers significant QoS improvements, in terms of guaranteed data rate per user, as well as, enhancements in the overall energy efficiency of the network.

Future generation of wireless mobile communication aims to provide high speed Internet access along with support for high mobility to the end users. Mobile WiMAX (IEEE 802.16e) has been developed in this direction in 2005 which provides broadband wireless Internet access up to 70Mbit/s. Its high speed enables various multimedia applications along with the conventional telephony service. These applications are categorized into classes like Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze according to their priority. In this paper we investigate the behavior of different scheduling algorithms for OFDMA/MIMO based WiMAX (IEEE 802.16m) architecture and analyze the quality of service (QoS) issues like throughput, end to end delay, interference, signal to noise ratio, call blocking probability and call dropping probability. For simulation, we used OPNET Modeler. The simulation results show high values of the QoS parameters although there is lack of consistency in some of those values that calls for further improvement in design, architecture and deployment strategy.

Future mobile Ad hoc networks (MANETs) are expected to be based on all-IP architecture and be capable of carrying multitude real-time multimedia applications such as voice, video and data. It is very necessary for MANETs to have an optimal routing and quality of service (QoS) mechanism to support diverse applications. Providing multipath routing is beneficial to avoid traffic congestion and frequent breaks in communication due to mobility in MANETs. Differentiated Services (DiffServ) can be used to classify network traffic into different priority levels and apply priority scheduling and queuing management mechanisms to obtain QoS guarantees. Dynamically distributed traffic control can effectively take advantage of multiple routing paths to avoid congestion and decrease delay. In this paper, we propose an optimal QoS mechanism: Integrating Multipath routing, DiffServ and distributed Traffic control in mobile ad hoc networks (IMDT). The convergence of third generation (3G) wide area wireless network and wireless local area network (WLAN) offers characteristics that complement each other perfectly. To provide secure 3G-WLAN convergence, extensible authentication protocol-authentication and key agreement (EAP-AKA) protocol, that has got many risk, is used. This paper elaborate risks in using EAP-AKA for 3G-WLAN convergence, proposes an authentication and key agreement protocol that combines elliptic curve Diffie-Hellman (ECDH) with symmetric key cryptosystem. The proposed protocol when analysed using simulation tool shows that it not only overcomes the risk, it ensures optimal quality of service (QoS) because of its less delay for authentication compared to EAP-AKA.

Cyber-physical systems (CPSs) represent a new generation of control systems where distributed local control systems are connected not only physically, but also computationally by means of communication networks. CPSs target introducing intelligence beside traditional monitoring and control functionalities in a way that optimize the performance of the overall system. However, the realization of many CPS applications requires reliable communication systems that provide quality of service (QoS) control. In this domain, Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard offers a comprehensive QoS frame work. Nevertheless, commercial implementations of the standard provide only best effort type of service. In this paper, we demonstrated the benefits of using LTE networks with QoS support for CPSs by comparing the performance of a CPS application over LTE network with and without QoS support. The results clearly indicate the benefit to enable the QoS features in commercial implementations of LTE in order to realize reliable CPS applications.

In heterogeneous network environments, it is mandatory to measure the grade of the video quality in order to guarantee the optimal quality of the video streaming service. Quality of Service (QoS) has become a key issue for service acceptability and user satisfaction. Although there have been many recent works regarding video quality, most of them have been limited to measuring quality within temporal and Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) scalability. H.264/AVC Scalable Video Coding (SVC) has emerged and has been developed to support full scalability. This includes spatial, temporal, and SNR scalability, each of which shows different visual effects. The aim of this paper is to define and develop a novel video quality metric allowing full scalability. It focuses on the effect of frame rate, SNR, the change of spatial resolution, and motion characteristics using subjective quality assessment. Experimental results show the proposed quality metric has a high correlation to subjective quality and that it is useful in determining the video quality of SVC.
