Abstract

Ray tracing is a method that allows the creation of stunning photo‐realistic images on a computer. Most ray tracing programs can model any three‐dimensional object which can be described by mathematical formulae. Looking closely at ray tracing many situations can be found where this technique can be useful. In this article a widely available shareware ray tracing program, PovRay, is described. Some ideas how PovRay can be used in teaching and 3D geometry, physics, and other high school and university subjects.
