Background/objectivesNeutrophil elastase (NE) is a serine protease primarily produced by neutrophils, playing a pivotal role in various physiological and pathological processes. This study aimed to provide insights into the research landscape surrounding NE and its implications in the post-COVID-19 era.MethodsThe current study employed a cross-sectional design based on bibliometric analysis. Articles were retrieved from the Scopus database and analyzed quantitatively using VOSviewer and Bibliometrix software to evaluate publication trends, authorship patterns, citation dynamics, and emerging research themes.ResultsThe analysis highlighted countries and institutions significantly contributing to NE research, revealing global trends and hotspots. Collaboration patterns were assessed, showcasing productive partnerships within the field. Key research topics identified include NE’s roles in inflammation, tissue damage, and disease pathogenesis. The COVID-19 pandemic reshaped the thematic map of NE research, driving focus toward NE's involvement in COVID-19 pathophysiology, therapeutic interventions, and its role in complications associated with the disease.ConclusionsThis bibliometric analysis offers a comprehensive view of NE research, focusing on its functions, pathophysiological roles, and implications for diseases such as lung disorders and COVID-19, providing a foundation for future research directions.

Gender disparities in medical and biomedical research productivity remain a critical issue globally, yet data from Arab countries, including Bahrain, are limited. This study examines gender differences in medical and biomedical research productivity in Bahrain over a two-decade period (2005-2024), focusing on publication rates, authorship patterns, journal quality, and collaboration trends. A bibliometric analysis was conducted using the Scopus database, covering 5,445 publications from Bahraini institutions in the medical and biomedical fields. Data were filtered to include only articles and reviews. Books, conference papers, and retracted works were excluded. The variables included authorship positions (first, last, corresponding), journal quartiles, SCImago Journal Rank (SJR), and collaboration types (institutional, national, regional, international). Gender was determined based on the authors' names and institutional and professional profiles. Descriptive statistics, Student's t-tests, and chi-square tests were used to compare sex differences (p < 0.05). The number of medical and biomedical publications in Bahrain increased fivefold from 2005 to 2024, comprising 80.1% of the articles and 12.8% of the reviews. Arabian Gulf University led institutional output (30.2% of total publications). Local journals accounted for 54.0% of the publications, with limited international visibility. Males from Bahrain dominated authorship (59.3% first, 68.3% last, 65.6% corresponding), whereas females comprised 36.0% of Bahraini authors on average. Male first authors from Bahrain were more prevalent in Q1 journals (58.3% vs. 41.7%) and international collaborations (40.7%). The female corresponding authors included more female Bahraini coauthors (mean 78.19% vs. 15.99% for males). Gender disparities in Bahrain's medical and biomedical research output underscore the need for targeted interventions to support female researchers, particularly in securing senior authorship and publishing in high-impact journals. Enhancing international collaboration and equitable resource allocation could further strengthen Bahrain's research landscape.

Medical image analysis has quickly advanced, with several advantages for research, diagnosis, and healthcare planning. We must have enough knowledge of current trends and developments in this field due to improvements in medical imaging technology and the accessibility of a wide range of medical image databases. This work covers the research environment for bibliometric analysis of academic articles as part of medical image analysis, utilizing the tools VOSviewer and Biblioshiny. The Scopus database contains 1,973 articles submitted between 1988 and 2023; all have been gathered and examined. The study has focused on the key bibliometric elements, such as authorship patterns, highly cited papers, prestigious journals, and collaborative networks. The outcomes of our inquiry demonstrate its interdisciplinary nature. This bibliometric analysis is a valuable resource for researchers, practitioners, and decision-makers, allowing them to identify significant trends, identify knowledge gaps, and explore prospects for further advancements in this critical field by providing a comprehensive overview of the literature on medical image analysis.

However, Atkinson’s last chapter is the strongest in the book. Based on research he conducted with his colleague Michael Kehler, he explores boys’ P.E. classes as an arena of somatic dominance and humiliation, but also of resistance and resilience. While the other five empirical chapters are plagued by too much theoretical throat-clearing (both of the authors exhibit an encyclopedic knowl- edge of social theory that too often over- whelms the data), here there is a better bal- ance between theory and data. This chapter also provides the most vivid evidence of embodiment, as the boys speak with surpris- ing candor about their bodies and the strate- gies they use to deflect ridicule and body shaming from their bullying peers. This is the sort of thing I was hoping to find more of throughout the collection. While several passages earlier in the book acknowledge the still-problematic legacy of Cartesian dualism for embodiment scholars, the analy- sis from both authors often stays too much in the head. Only rarely, as in this last chapter, do they deliver evidence of the body’s pecu- liar eloquence. As a general observation, I found this ten- dency toward abstraction also encouraged some stylistic habits that may tax readers. Especially in the introduction and first chap- ter I felt overwhelmed by a continuous bar- rage of parenthetical inserts, italicized text, overuse of the slash, and a surfeit of scare quotes. I also longed for a concluding chapter, wherein the authors could bring the sociological insights gleaned from their many collective years as masculinities scholars to bear on these specific empirical cases. What did they learn from their collabo- ration? What does challenging these various myths suggest about the future of masculin- ities and gendered embodiment? Informed readers are likely to draw a variety of conclu- sions from these stimulating cases; it would be nice to have the authors weigh in as well. In response to a vari- ety of social forces, a specialized expertise known as ‘‘forensic nursing’’ has arisen, and forensic nurses now very often have ‘‘jurisdiction’’—in the sociological sense— over the medical examination of sexual assault victims. This development seems at first glance to be a positive one. It arose through a conflu- ence of good intentions. Feminists demanded that sexual assault victims be treated with greater care and dignity and that sexual assaults be prosecuted with greater vigor. Law enforcement agencies saw valuable evi- dence being lost or discarded. And nursing, a feminized, caring profession, seemed the right fit for the job. ‘‘Having witnessed sexual assault interventions in their role as chaper- ones’’ when gynecologists were in charge of sexual assault examinations, anthropologist Semeena Mulla notes, ‘‘nurses were among the loudest critics of the haphazard response and treatment rape victims received in the health care system’’ (p. 12). However, recently a number of scholars, while by no means condemning the rise of forensic nursing, have begun exploring some of the unintended consequences of the institutionalization of forensic nursing. This study aims to explore the trajectory of Arabic language learning research in non-Arabic-speaking countries. The research method used is bibliometric analysis related to Arabic language learning in non-Arabic speaking countries. The data sources in this research are articles taken from the Scopus database using keywords such as Arabic Language Learning, Arabic Language Teaching, Arabic Language Education, and Arabic Language Teaching. We identified 108 relevant articles covering the period from 1970 to 2024. Our analysis encompasses various dimensions including yearly publication trends, authorship patterns, country affiliations, productive institutions, and prolific publishers within this thematic domain. Further insights were gathered through sophisticated analytical techniques, specifically employing VosViewer software for data visualization and thematic cluster analysis. a significant increase in research activity related to Arabic Learning within non-Arabic speaking countries, particularly evident over the past decade. Notably, Indonesia, with the world's largest Muslim population, emerges as the foremost contributor in terms of article productivity, closely followed by Malaysia and the United States. The pivotal role of the Gema Online Journal of Language Studies, affiliated with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, underscores its significance as a platform shaping scholarly discourse in this field and standing as the most productive institution. Additionally, our analysis identifies Ritonga, M., as the most productive author, while Shah P.M. and Yusri, G. emerge as influential contributors within this scholarly domain. These findings provide valuable insights into the evolving landscape of Arabic language learning research in non-Arabic speaking contexts. Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi lintasan penelitian pembelajaran bahasa Arab di negara non-Arab. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah analisis bibliomterik terkait dengan pembelajaran bahasa Arab di negara non-Arab. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini merupakan artikel-artikel yang diambil dari database Scopus dengan memanfaatkan kata kunci seperti pembelajaran bahasa Arab, pengajaran bahasa Arab, pendidikan bahasa Arab, dan pengajaran bahasa Arab. Penulis mengidentifikasi 108 artikel terkait yang mencakup periode 1970 hingga 2024. Analisis mencakup berbagai dimensi termasuk tren publikasi tahunan, pola kepenulisan, afiliasi negara, lembaga produktif, dan penerbit produktif dalam domain tematik ini. Pemanfaatan perangkat lunak VosViewer digunakan untuk visualisasi data dan analisis klaster tematik. Hasilnya menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan dalam aktivitas penelitian terkait pembelajaran bahasa Arab di negara- non-Arab, khususnya selama dekade terakhir. Auxetic structures have very interesting features compared to traditional structures and can also be used in the automotive industry thanks to their lightness and strength have attracted the attention of researchers in recent decades. The current study summarizes the contributions made by researchers from all over the world between 2002 and 2022 in the field of auxetic structures. Using the Scopus database, a bibliometric analysis was used to examine the scientific studies in the area. The analysis covered different characteristics of publications, including publication type, main study fields, journals, citations, authorship patterns, affiliations, and keywords. The bibliometric indicators showed that there were 2599 publications published by 5161 authors in 85 countries from 2002 to 2022. The results also showed that the publications produced came primarily from China, the United States, and the United Kingdom, and the publications produced from these countries accounted for 42.99% of all publications. In particular, the most productive author, country, institution, and journal are Grima JN, China, Ministry of Education China, and Composite Structures, respectively. This study has great value since it demonstrates how to research topics change from year to year and can predict future development trends.

Through bibliometric analysis, we aim to comprehensively understand the research dynamics in this field, reveal key scientific research achievements and breakthrough discoveries, and provide valuable reference and guidance for future research directions. Utilizing the Web of Science, we retrieved the literature pertaining to ultrasonics-guided regional anesthesiology (1994–2022). CiteSpace and VOSviewer were used for bibliometric and knowledge mapping analysis. Our examination encompassed publication trends, authorship patterns, institutional contributions, frequently occurring keywords, keyword clustering, and emerging terminology trends. Of the 570 papers reviewed, there was a rising trend in publications each year. The main keywords in regional anesthesia were ultrasound guidance, nerve, analgesia, and pain score. Key research areas were regional anesthesia, ultrasound guidance, approach, pain score, and plane block. The U.S. led in research. Stanford University, University of Toronto, and Cork University Hospital were central institutions. Chan V was the top author with 24 articles, while Marhofer P was the most cited at 150 times. Regional anesthesia and pain medicine were the predominant journal in both publications and citations. In conclusion, research in this field consistently grew yearly, and visualization showcased trends in ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia. These visuals provided key bibliometric insights, helping researchers further explore and understand this domain.

The intersection of Cybersecurity and AI has garnered increasing attention in recent years due to the growing importance of securing digital assets in an interconnected world. This bibliometric analysis aims to provide valuable insights into the research trends and developments within this interdisciplinary domain. Using data extracted from the Scopus database, a total of 501 papers were selected and analyzed to uncover key patterns and themes. The methodology involved conducting a comprehensive literature search using specific keywords related to Cybersecurity and AI applications. The initial search yielded 736 papers, which were subsequently filtered to include research articles, conference papers, editorial papers, and review papers, resulting in the final dataset of 501 papers. The analysis of publication trends revealed a remarkable surge in research output since 2015, indicating the escalating interest in this field. Collaboration patterns among researchers and institutions were analyzed through co-authorship networks, highlighting a well-connected research community that fosters knowledge exchange. Keyword analysis exposed common areas of application, such as network security, deep learning, and the Internet of Things, underscoring the importance of AI technologies in enhancing Cybersecurity measures. Furthermore, examination of the most cited documents showcased influential contributions that have shaped the trajectory of Cybersecurity and AI research. The study emphasizes the significance of Cybersecurity and AI applications research, considering the ever-increasing reliance on technology in various aspects of modern life. By integrating AI technologies, Cybersecurity measures can be fortified with automated threat detection, adaptive defense mechanisms, and proactive risk mitigation, thereby bolstering overall cybersecurity resilience. The findings of this bibliometric analysis have several implications for researchers and policymakers. Researchers can leverage the identified trends and gaps to explore new research directions and potential collaborations. Policymakers can utilize these insights to make informed decisions regarding resource allocation for research initiatives aimed at addressing emerging Cybersecurity challenges. This bibliometric analysis provides a comprehensive overview of the evolving landscape of Cybersecurity and AI applications research. It underscores the growing importance of this interdisciplinary field and its potential to reshape the future of cybersecurity. As technology continues to advance, the integration of AI in Cybersecurity will play a pivotal role in safeguarding digital assets and ensuring the secure functioning of critical systems in an increasingly interconnected world.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to know whether the authors’ productivity pattern of library and information science (LIS) open access journals adheres to Lotka’s inverse square law of scientific productivity. Since the law was introduced, it has been tested in various fields of knowledge, and results have varied. This study has closely followed Lotka’s inverse square law in the field of LIS open access journals to find a factual result and set a baseline for future studies on author productivity of LIS open access journals. Design/methodology/approach The publication data of selected ten LIS open access journals pertain to authorship, citations were downloaded from the Scopus database and analysed using bibliometric indicators like authorship pattern, collaborative index (CI), degree of collaboration (DC), collaborative coefficient (CC) and citation counts. This study has applied Lotka’s inverse square law to assess authors’ productivity pattern of LIS open access journals and further Kolmogorov-Smirnov (K-S) goodness-of-fit test applied for testing of observed and expected author productivity data. Findings Inferences were drawn for the set objectives on authorship pattern, collaboration trend and authors’ productivity pattern of LIS open access journals covered in this study. The single authorship pattern is dominant in LIS open access journals covered in this study. The CI, DC and CC are found to be 1.95, 0.47 and 0.29, respectively. The expected values as per Lotka’s law (n = −2) significantly vary from the observed values as per the chi-square test and K-S goodness-of-fit test. Hence, this study does not adhere to Lotka’s inverse square law of scientific productivity. Practical implications Researchers may find an idea about the authors’ productivity patterns of LIS open access journals. This study has used the K-S goodness-of-fit test and the chi-square test to validate the authors’ productivity data. The inferences found out from this study will be a baseline for future research on author productivity of LIS open access journals. Originality/value This study is significant from the viewpoint of the growing research on open access journals in the field of LIS and to identify the authorship pattern, collaboration trend and author productivity pattern of such journals.

A well-known method for quantitatively evaluating scholarly work is bibliometric analysis. Best-cited papers raise awareness of the influential publications and patterns in the literature on a specific subject. The aim was to conduct bibliometric analysis to determine most cited articles on vesiculobullous oral lesions. This is the first study on citation analysis with respect to vesiculobullous oral lesions. A retrospective data search was explored on December 2022 using the Scopus database. The articles were evaluated, and fundamental data for bibliometric analysis was reviewed. Standard details about the author, linked organizations, publishing year, and place of origin were noted. Statistical analysis was performed using Chi-square analysis. VOSviewer software was used to determine the bibliometric network analysis for co-occurrence among coauthors and commonly used keywords. A total of 344 articles published from 1971 to 2022 were included in the study. A total of 6680 citations and 19.41 citations per article were observed. The journal Archives of Dermatology received the most citation. There was a significant association between the number of citations and the journal type (open access vs. non-open access) (P < 0.05). Four to five highly related clusters with the help of VOSviewer software were found during co-occurrence network analysis. The top 10 articles on vesiculobullous oral lesions that received the most citations were listed in detail in the present study. This will be a valuable resource for academics, clinicians, and researchers in the fields of dermatology, general pathology, oral pathology, and oral medicine.

The banking sector plays an indispensable role in the global economy by facilitating economic growth, providing financial services, and ensuring the stability of the financial system. The banking industry is one of the most dynamic sectors, where financial institutions are constantly striving to achieve a strategic advantage over their peers. One such effective strategy is mergers and acquisitions (M&amp;A), where banks consolidate their operations through either a merger or an acquisition to achieve strategic objectives. The purpose of this paper is to undertake a review of mergers and acquisitions in the banking industry using bibliometric analysis to identify their technical reasons, significance, and effects and to offer thematic and methodological directions for further studies to move forward on the topic. Bibliometric analysis, including citation, bibliographic coupling, coauthorship, and co-occurrence analysis, was utilized to discover trends in and conduct descriptive analysis of articles. The study used keyword and reference search methods to discover 616 research articles from the Scopus database between 1994 and 2022. Publication trends, highly influential authors, leading nations, and top journals are addressed. Hence, the systematic review of the most cited articles has been performed significantly. The study summarizes the significance, effects, and performance evaluation of mergers and acquisitions in the banking sector using both bibliometric and systematic analysis, which will enable academicians and researchers to make significant contributions to future research directions on mergers and acquisitions in the banking sector.

The rapid development of digital technologies, digital transformation, business innovation, and the emergence of such technologies as artificial intelligence, blockchain, the Internet of Things provides significant potential for transforming business processes and creating new innovative models. The trend analysis conducted in this article (using the Google Trends tool) around the world for 2009-2023 showed that public interest in “business innovation” was almost constant until 2021 (according to the GT Scale, it ranged from 0.25 to 0.5). After 2021, it increased (according to the GT Scale, it was more than 0.5). At the same time, public interest in “digital transformation” has significantly increased since 2014, reaching almost maximum values in 2020-2023 (0.75 – 1.00 on the GT Scale). This confirms a growing need in society to acquire new knowledge related to the ability of businesses to adapt to digital transformation, including through creating innovative developments. Unlike trend analysis, bibliometric and comparative analyses identify trends in developing interest in this topic not among ordinary citizens – users of the Google search platform ‒ but among scientists who publish the results of their research either in monographs or in authoritative peer-reviewed scientific journals indexed by leading scientometric databases. The comparative analysis conducted in the article using the Google Books Ngram Viewer (Google) tool, which displays the frequency of references to relevant terms in English-language books for 2009-2019 worldwide, showed similar trends: the persistence of scholars’ attention to business innovation, while their interest in digital transformation is growing: in 2009-2013 – a slight increase, in 2013-2019 ‒ a significant increase. In the bibliometric analysis, a five-level mechanism for limiting the research sample was applied: only English-language and most recent (for 2018-2022) scientific articles indexed by the Scopus database in the subject area of Business, Management and Accounting were subject to analysis. Based on these limitations, the research sample for the keyword “digital transformation” was reduced from 12131 to 1700 papers, and for “business innovation” from 865 to 70. The analysis of the published articles, their views and citations, carried out using the SciVal tool, fully confirmed the conclusions drawn from the trend and comparative analysis results. In terms of digital transformation, the leaders in terms of the number of papers and the number of views are Germany, Italy, the UK and the US; in terms of citations – the UK, Germany, the US, and in terms of individual scientists – Brazil and Germany. As for the topic of business innovation, the United States is the undisputed leader in all these parameters, followed by China and the United Kingdom. Some scientists from Germany and Spain also attract the attention of the academic community (in terms of views and citations). Changes in trends and research priorities in each of the studied topics were identified and described using SciVal (analysis of the reference dynamics to the top 50 keywords in articles for 2018-2023). For example, in 2023, compared to 2022, scientific interest in issues related to “value creation” (+61.5%), “incumbents” (+66.7%), “service economy” (+83.3%), “digital marketing” (+75.0%), and “design thinking” (+150.0%) increased the most. VOSviewer software made it possible to cluster the scientific work by thematic areas. The largest cluster on digital transformation relates this concept to small and medium-sized businesses and technologies, and the largest cluster on business innovation relates it to the development of small and medium-sized enterprises and the protection of property rights.

PurposeThis study reviews scholarly work in sustainable green logistics and remanufacturing (SGLR) and their subdisciplines, in combination with bibliometric, thematic and content analyses that provide a viewpoint on categorization and a future research agenda. This paper provides insight into current research trends in the subjects of interest by examining the most essential and most referenced articles promoting sustainability and climate-neutral logistics.Design/methodology/approachFor the literature review, the authors extracted and sifted 2180 research and review papers for the period 2008–2023 from the Scopus database. The authors performed bibliometric and content analyses using multiple software programs such as Gephi, VOSviewer and R programming.FindingsThe SGLR papers can be grouped into seven clusters: (1) The circular economy facets; (2) Decarbonization of operations to nurture a climate-neutral business; (3) Green sustainable supply chain management; (4) Drivers and barriers of reverse logistics and the circular economy; (5) Business models for sustainable logistics and the circular economy; (6) Transportation problems in sustainable green logistics and (7) Digitalization of logistics and supply chain management.Practical implicationsIn this review, fundamental ideas are established, research gaps are identified and multiple future research subjects are proposed. These propositions are categorized into three main research streams, i.e. (1) Digitalization of SGLR, (2) Enhancing scopes, sectors and industries in the context of SGLR and (3) Developing more efficient and effective climate-neutral and climate change-related solutions and promoting more environmental-related and sustainability research concerning SGLR. In addition, two conceptual models concerning SGLR and climate-neutral strategies are developed and presented for managers and practitioners to consider when adopting green and sustainability principles in supply chains. This review also highlights the need for academics to go beyond frameworks and build new techniques and instruments for monitoring SGLR performance in the real world.Originality/valueThis study provides an overview of the evolution of SGLR; it also clarifies concepts, environmental concerns and climate change practices, particularly those directed to supply chain management.

This study presents a framework and viewpoint on the intellectual structure and evolution of customer experience research in the service literature. Using the Scopus database, journal articles on customer experience have been extracted and examined to unearth the source knowledge and main themes via a two-step approach of bibliometric (citation and co-citation) and content analyses. The bibliometric analysis has revealed five main clusters of the knowledge domain: (1) methodology and information technology, (2) customer co-creation of value, (3) service quality and customer satisfaction, (4) tourist experience, (5) customer perception in service environments. Based on the literature review, content analysis was subsequently performed to reveal recent articles from each cluster. Overall, this article comprehensively examines customer experience literature in the service industries. Results present a holistic comprehension of the knowledge domain, reveal scientific progress, and provide main directions and questions for further academic efforts.
