Application of IOT Devices for Smart Car Parking System

The current parking system still uses a manual parking system, vehicle owners still have difficulty finding an empty parking space because they have to go around the parking area so it is less efficient and takes a long time. This study aims to help car drivers save time in finding parking locations and knowing the availability of parking spaces. In this study, there are two types of input used: infrared sensors, which function to measure the capacity of the parking space, and RFID sensors, which are used to detect cards. The data processing process is carried out using Arduino Uno, while the LCD is used to display the number of available parking slots and the location of the slot. In addition, the servo motor functions to open the barrier. This system operates in a way, when a car enters and attaches a registered card, the servo motor will open, and the number of parking slots will decrease. The driver then selects a parking slot, which will be automatically marked as "full" on the LCD screen. When the infrared sensor detects a car that wants to exit, the servo motor will open again, and the number of parking slots on the LCD will increase.

Recently, the number of cars on the road has been growing due to the increase in car manufacturing in parallel with customer services provided to help the new driver to buy cars at affordable prices. On the other hand, we find that the infrastructure of big cities cannot support this number of cars and with the disorganization of parking places in the city this problem will lead us to have serious problem in the city which involves the increase of drivers requests to find the nearest parking places to avoid traffic congestion in those areas. In parallel today we talk about the concept of smart cities and how can we use the evolution of the Internet of Things (IoT) to improve the quality of the smart city. Several efforts have been made on the Internet of Things to improve the reliability and the productivity of public infrastructure. Many problems have been handled and controlled by the IoT such as vehicle traffic congestion, road safety and the inefficient use of car parking spaces. This work introduces a novel technique based on a distributed cloud architecture of IoT to manage the parking systems combined with a distributed swarm intelligence technique using the Ant System algorithm to improve the process of finding the nearest car parking in the minimum time based on the state of traffic on this road. This prototype will help drivers to find the nearest car parking and improve the exploitation of the available car parking in the city.

In the field of transportation, one of the technological developments can be found in the parking service system. However, in the current parking service system, there are still several shortcomings, one of which is the absence of a parking system that can provide information to motorists regarding vacant parking locations. If the condition of the parking lot is congested, it will be difficult for customers to find an empty parking location and cause queues at the parking location. The purpose of this study is to design a system for calculating the availability of parking spaces that can make it easier for motorists to find an empty parking area so that the mobility of vehicles in the parking lot can be organized, efficient, and well organized. This smart parking system is designed using an Arduino microcontroller and uses an infrared sensor to detect the condition of the car in the parking lot. The information provided in the form of parking conditions will be displayed through the LCD and the LabView application so that the information can be known by the driver before entering the parking area. In addition, drivers can also find out the number of parking fees for their vehicles. Results of the simulation show that the prototype can work normally according to the design made.

In today's world, time is the most valuable asset and this paper focuses on developing a smart parking system for smart cities. Its main objective is to assist users to find a vacant location of car parking in a shorter time. The system displays occupied and vacant parking spots on LCD, making it convenient for the users to park. This parking system is based on sensors and cloud server integration. The working principle is divided into two phases. In the first phase, the ultrasonic sensor is used to detect vacant or occupied car parking space and display it on the screen using cloud technology. In the second phase, the improper parking of the car is detected by IR sensors. It alerts the driver with a buzzer if the car is not parked in the parking boundary. Moving further, some important features of this parking system are also discussed followed by, components required and their description. Towards the end of the paper, this parking system is compared with other alternative smart parking systems, the comparisons prove the correctness of our system over others.

In this work, we describe the implementation of a smart parking and mapping system, named Smart Park, for searching and booking parking spaces in uncovered parking areas. This system comprises of a mobile application which allows users to view and select available parking slots on an interactive map based on aerial imagery. The system can suggest parking spaces based on criteria such as vehicle dimensions, distance to destination and user preferences. QR technology has been used to allow users to check-into and out of the parking lot. Moreover, the application integrates a map guidance system to guide users to their designated parking spaces. The application features an administrator interface, with parking data represented in visual format, for analysis and strategic decision making. The features implemented are aimed at alleviating the difficulties in parking identification and allocation, thereby minimising congestion in and around parking lots.

The development of private vehicle ownership is very rapid, but it is not balanced by adequate supporting infrastructure such as roads and parking lots. Especially for parking lots, parking horizontally will be difficult to develop because of the limited land availability. The addition of parking lots can be done vertically by building a multi-storey parking building. So far, the existence of multi-storey parking buildings has not provided an information system on the availability of parking spaces. The form of multi-storey parking lots often makes the driver have to go around few times to find an empty space. This situations wasting of energy and time. This study aims to design an information system as application models in human-computer interaction, that will inform someone there is empty or already filled parking space, so that it can save time and make it easier for drivers to find parking spaces to park their cars. This information system prototype design consists of three main parts, called sensors, controllers, and displays. Car parking control system that works with an automatic portal (parking gate) along with a display screen for information on the location of empty parking spaces and those that have been filled. The portal will open if information states the parking lot is still available, and the portal will not open if information states the parking lot is full.

Today in this modern world, most of the urban cities are facing problems like traffic jam, limited car parking space, poor road safety conditions, costly transportation of goods from one city to other etc. In this paper, we have addressed the problem of smart car parking system using Internet of Things (IoT) for smart cities. Here, the wireless IoT sensor nodes provides remote access to the car driver to keep a track of the availability of the parking area. In this paper, the driver’s efforts & time both are reduced by providing an instant notification message about the free parking slots area using RFID technology. The developed smart car parking is simple, low cost, and efficient a system which can be used in Municipal Corporation authorized car parking stations at busy places such as Shopping Malls, Bus Stand Car parking, Metro Train car parking, airports etc.

There are more and more vehicles on the road in every country, which have to be parked in spaces that are becoming increasingly packed. This is a big challenge especially for city planners, architects, and building owners. To meet this demand, the innovative and space saving-parking system is created. This is the new way of technology that can be applied to all users and it is more efficient than the previous parking systems. All buildings including hospitals, government building, shopping complex can access and apply this technology. This paper proposed a program that combined with the iOS system and connected through wireless connection. In addition, it will be connected to the mobile phones using this technology. Before the data can be displayed, the mobile phone has to be installed with BLINK's application that can be downloaded from the apple store. After this application is installed, then apps will show the available parking slot in the specific parking area. Any parking spaces can be assessed anywhere and anytime as long as users have internet connection to their smartphones. This paper proposed to develop the iOS apps that can show and update the parking spaces that are available and the hardware is designed by using ESPresso Lite 2.0 board.

In urban areas, traffic density is seen due to the congested residential areas and the high number of vehicles. The problem of drivers searching for parking spaces in central areas creates traffic. The Internet of Things (IoT) technology offers important solutions with its networking feature to solve problems such as traffic congestion, road safety and inefficient use of parking areas, which are waiting for solutions within the scope of Intelligent Transportation Systems. In this study, the technological infrastructures used by IoT-based smart parking systems are examined and integrated building models are proposed for system designs where parking lots are managed. For smart park design, devices, networks and cloud architecture used in IoT-based systems were examined and requirements were determined. The criteria of an application based on design central management are given. The criteria of an application based on design center management are given. Thanks to the smart parking system to be created in the light of these criteria, the closest parking area will be determined. These designed IoT-based systems will contribute to the reduction of traffic congestion, loss of time in full parking areas, air pollution caused by stop and start vehicles, and fuel savings in the economic field.

There has been a considerable growth in the volume of road traffic in India. As a result, the demand for parking spaces has increased. Due to less availability of parking spaces, commuters spend many hours on average searching for one. Improper management of the same has lead to overcrowding of roads with vehicles, causing air pollution as well. Thus, to ease the process of locating vacant parking spaces and making this information available for commuters, this paper proposes an end-to-end parking system. The system employs a combined approach, referred to as the Hybrid Model, using Mask R-CNN and YOLOv3 to determine the occupancy status of parking slots and update it in real-time for users to view. A new metric, MDR, was devised to evaluate the car detection performance of Mask R-CNN, YOLOv3, and the Hybrid Model.

With the rapid growth of the economy, the number of vehicle users has surged, leading to an increasing demand for parking spaces. The widespread use of smartphones has encouraged users to turn to mobile application-based solutions. The development of IoT technology has facilitated the integration of wireless connectivity, mobile devices, and mobile applications.. In order to provide a complete parking solution for both users and parking space owners, this paper suggests an smartphone application and a smart parking system powered by the Internet of Things (IoT).The application enables users to book parking spots, verify reservations, find the closest spot based on vehicle size, find the parking slot, and retrieve daily, weekly, and monthly account data. The availability and location of open parking spaces are communicated using Wi-Fi, microcontrollers, and infrared (IR) sensors. And technology for wireless communication to a server. A smartphone app is then used to retrieve this data. RFID tags affixed are employed to verify users who make hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly parking reservation reservations. Based on the size of the vehicle, a scheduling algorithm is used to determine the closest available space. The seamless user experience is the goal of the mobile app's design. The study also emphasizes the difficulties and inefficiencies brought about by conventional parking arrangements. The authors suggest an Internet of Things (IoT)-based smart parking system that makes it simple for users to find open spots in a certain location.

In the modern world with about a billion vehicles present around the globe, and being in a densely populated country like India creates the need for an efficient parking system and with world advancing towards automation, there is also a need for an automated parking system. Mainly the problem of parking arises in big cities and this causes problems like traffic congestion, driver frustration & air pollution, etc. The issue mainly arises from not knowing whether the parking spaces is available at any given point of time. Even if known, many vehicles may be competing for limited parking spaces causing severe traffic congestions. Even there are problems that can be caused with regards to the parking management. It may be difficult for the parking management to organise the parking of the vehicles in an orderly manner. Thus we are trying to resolve the problems stated by developing an RFID based smart parking system that monitors the availability of idle parking slots and guides the vehicle to the nearest such slot by sending a message to the mobile number registered in the vehicle’s RFID. The proposed system uses infrared transmitter-receiver pairs that remotely communicate the status of parking occupancy to the Arduino UNO microcontroller and displays the vacant slots on the display at the entrance of the parking so that the user gets to know the availability /unavailability of parking space prior to his/her entry into the parking place. Implementation involves minimal human interaction and provides a seamless parking experience thereby reducing a lot of time wasted by the user in parking his/her vehicle.
