The Analysis of Several Common Easily Confused Basic Concepts in Unary Function Calculus

Understanding the correct concepts can avoid misconceptions in basic mathematical material. There is still a mathematical misconception among PGSD students due to the low understanding of the concept. Lecturing the basic mathematical concepts as a subject that must be taken by PGSD students can be done by internalizing Islamic values in it. The concepts in mathematics are full of the values they contain including Islamic values. Therefore, it is necessary to have teaching materials on the basic concepts of mathematics based on the internalization of Islamic values. This study aims at 1) to determine the characteristics of teaching materials on the basic concepts of mathematics based on the internalization of Islamic values, 2) to improve understanding of mathematical concepts through learning with teaching materials on the basic concepts of mathematics based on the internalization of Islamic values. This research is a development research. Analysis of the data used included the validity analysis of teaching materials, analysis of practicality of teaching materials, analysis of the effectiveness of teaching materials, descriptive statistics, and Gain normalization tests. Improving the understanding of student mathematical concepts can be seen in the average score of 61.54 pretest and the post-test average score of 85.41. From the normalized gain test calculation shows an increase of 0.62 in the medium category. From the results of the study it is expected that the teaching materials of the basic concepts of mathematics based on the internalization of Islamic values can be applied in learning through various learning innovations with student centered. The aim of this study is to discuss the conceptual dimensions of pre-service mathematics teachers' approaches to the basic concepts and operations of mathematics. 25 pre-service mathematics teachers in the first semester of the 2022-2023 academic year, who were educated at a state university, participated in the research. Four open-ended questions about the basic concepts of mathematics were asked to pre-service mathematics teachers and their written opinions were received. Content and descriptive analysis were applied to the responses. As a result of the analyzes, pre-service teachers did not approach these questions in the context of conceptual knowledge, but generally gave the answers in the context of procedural knowledge. Pre-service mathematics teachers used reflective thinking, which they used to compare the procedural knowledge processes they gained in the formal education process with the previous solutions, in these question solutions as well.

CHAPTER XI - BASIC TOPOLOGICAL CONCEPTS

The socialization of Visual Basic 6.0 based applications for calculating prime, odd and even numbers aims to introduce efficient tools for studying and implementing basic mathematical concepts interactively. This application is designed with a user-friendly interface to support mathematics teaching, both at secondary school level and in basic programming training activities. The app's key features include: Prime Number Check: Allows users to identify whether a number is a prime number. Odd and Even Classification: Provides a feature that automatically determines whether a certain number is odd or even. Calculations in a Specific Range: Provides calculation results for numbers within a specified range, supporting the exploration of mathematical patterns. The socialization process is carried out through training and interactive demos for potential users, such as teachers, students and the technology community. Evaluation shows that this application is able to improve understanding of basic mathematical concepts and speed up the manual calculation process. By utilizing Visual Basic 6.0 as a development platform, this application offers flexibility and compatibility with older operating systems, making it accessible to users with limited hardware. It is hoped that this application can be a useful educational tool in studying mathematics practically.

This chapter and the next two have three objectives. First, to introduce the reader to some basic concepts and formulas that will be needed in later chapters. Second, to serve as an introduction to computation and numerical methods and the use of Excel and Matlab procedures. The present chapter is devoted to mathematics and Chap. 3 is an introduction to computation and Chap. 4 will concentrate on probability theory and statistics. Those who are familiar with the material may want to glance through these chapters and move on. A third function of the chapters is to provide a handy reference for readers who, in reading later chapters, might feel a need to refresh their understanding of a concept or to check a formula.

<p>Although much educational research has investigated the relative effectiveness of different educational interventions and policies, little is known about the absolute net benefits of K-12 schooling independent of growth due to chronological age and out-of-school experience. The nearly universal policy of age tracking in schools makes this a difficult topic to investigate. However, a quasi-experimental regression discontinuity design can be used to separate observed test score differences between grades into independent age and schooling components, yielding an estimate of the net effects of school exposure at each grade level. In this study, a multilevel version of this design was applied to scores on 22 common ability and achievement tests from two major standardized test batteries. The ability battery contained 9 measures of Verbal, Quantitative, and Figural reasoning. The achievement battery contained 13 measures in the areas of Language, Mathematics, Reading, Social Studies, Science, and Sources of Information. The analysis was based on sample of over 20,000 students selected from a longitudinal database collected by a large U.S. parochial school system.</p> <p>The theory of fluid (Gf) and crystallized (Gc) intelligence predicts that these tests will show systematically different levels of sensitivity to schooling. Indeed, the achievement (Gc) tests were found to be three times more sensitive to schooling than they were to aging (one-year effect sizes of .41 versus .15), whereas the ability (Gf) tests were equally influenced by age (.18) and schooling (.19). Nonetheless, the schooling effect on most Gf tests was substantial, especially when the compounding over a typical school career is considered. This replicates the results of previous investigations of age and schooling using regression discontinuity methods and once again contradicts common interpretations of fluid ability.</p> <p>Different measures of a construct often exhibited varying levels of school sensitivity. Those tests that were less sensitive to schooling generally required reading, reasoning, transfer, synthesis, or translation; posed a wider range of questions; and/or presented problems in an unfamiliar format. Quantitative reasoning tests showed more sensitivity to schooling than figural reasoning tests, while verbal reasoning tests occupied a middle ground between the two. Schooling had the most impact on basic arithmetic skills and mathematical concepts, and a significantly weaker impact on the solution of math word problems. School-related gains on isolated language skills were much larger than gains on solving grammar problems in context. The weakest schooling impact overall was on reading comprehension where effects were no larger than those on verbal ability measures.</p> <p>An interesting dichotomy was found between spelling and paper folding (a measure of figural and spatial reasoning). Spelling skills showed robust schooling effects but a consistently negative age slope, a puzzling result which indicates that younger students in each group outperformed older students. Paper folding showed the opposite pattern, a large age effect and a small but consistently negative schooling effect.</p> <p>Results serve to rebut skepticism about both the impact of schooling on test scores and the validity of distinctions between ability and achievement. It is argued that the regression discontinuity design has great potential in the measurement of school effectiveness, while also offering a source of validity evidence for test developers and test users. Implications for theories of cognitive ability and future research on schooling effects are discussed.</p>

Describing the ability of PGSD students to understand mathematical concepts in the subject of basic mathematical concepts, as well as identifying students' difficulties in these subjects are the basic objectives of this study. This research is a qualitative research using descriptive method. 23 students of the PGSD study program were used as subjects in this study. Data collection in this study used tests and documentation. The data analysis used was descriptive qualitative analysis. The results of data analysis obtained on the average score of students' ability to understand mathematical concepts is 60.35 so that they are grouped in the sufficient category. As for the details, there are 2 students in the very good category, 6 students in the good category, and 15 students in the sufficient category. Based on the results of this study it can be concluded that the ability to understand mathematical concepts of PGSD students in the subject of basic mathematical concepts is still in the sufficient category.

Numeracy skills are fundamental abilities that every student must possess to understand mathematical concepts. Indonesia ranks 74th out of 79 countries in terms of numeracy proficiency, indicating the low ability of students to comprehend basic mathematical concepts and solve numeracy-based problems. According to the 2024 National Assessment results, the majority of students in this region fall into the low category for numeracy literacy. This is further supported by data from SMPN 16 Mataram, where field observations reveal that many students struggle with mastering basic arithmetic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, which are foundational for understanding more advanced mathematical concepts. Therefore, this community service aims to help students develop skills in understanding and operating basic algebraic concepts, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of algebraic expressions. This service is conducted at SMPN 16 Mataram, located in Mataram city, with the participants being 23 students from class VII of SMP in Mataram. The data used in this service activity is sourced from the implementation of the Madrasah Indonesia Competency Assessment (AKM) guidance activity to improve students' literacy and numeracy competencies at SMPN 16 Mataram, conducted by 7th grade mathematics teacher. The evaluation of the activity was done through interviews with both the teacher and the students of grade 7th. The results of this activity show a significant improvement in the numeracy skills of students in algebraic arithmetic operations at SMPN 16 Mataram, class VII. This improvement is measurable, with the average score initially at 40, which then increased to 70 after the implementation of the program or community service activities. This indicates that students who previously had difficulty understanding and mastering algebraic arithmetic operations, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with variables or algebraic expressions, made significant progress after being given guidance and practice. Therefore, the addition of numeracy-focused programs is effective in helping students solve problems.

This study aims to determine the effect of the use of interactive learning media (wordwall) on the understanding of basic mathematical concepts of grade IV students at SDN 1 Tebaban. This type of research is a quantitative research of experimental methods with a quasi-experimental design of pretest-posttest control group design. The population of this study is class IV A and IV B which totals 35 students. The sample of this study uses a saturated sampling technique. The data collection technique in this study uses observation sheets, questionnaire sheets and pretest and posttest test sheets. The data analysis techniques in this study include observation and questionnaire data analysis, descriptive analysis, normality test, variance homogeneity test and independent samples test. The results of the observation sheet showed that the students' understanding of basic mathematical concepts in the experimental class reached 75% ('Very Good'), higher than the control class which only reached 62.99% ('Good'). Based on the results of the questionnaire, the use of wordwall interactive media was proven to be more effective in improving students' understanding than mind mapping learning media and teaching aids in the control class, with 91% of students in the experimental class supporting the use of wordwalls, compared to 80% in the control class. The t-test showed a value of Sig. (2-tailed) 0.02, so that the alternative hypothesis was accepted, indicating a significant influence of interactive learning media on the understanding of mathematical concepts of grade IV students at SDN 1 Tebaban.

Important insights into the young child's conception of basic mathematical and scientific concepts have arisen out of the experimental work conducted by Jean Piaget [5, 6, 7]. * In assessing the degree to which a child has acquired a concept, Piaget often uses the criterion of conservation. He has shown that children of four to six do not in general conserve certain basic properties of objects or sets of objects. For example, a young child may think that the number of blocks in a row is increased if the row is elongated, or that a wooden rod becomes shorter when it is rotated through 90 degrees. Such a child is said to be a “nonconserver” of number in the first case, and a “nonconserver” of length in the second case.

In this review, the theoretical studies are presented for the microcavitation bubble dynamics problems, which mainly depend on the microcavitation models, such as the Rayleigh-Plesset model, the Church model, the diffusion-concentration model, and the Keller-Miksis model in biological systems. The various solutions to these models, which were formulated based on basic mathematical and physical concepts, are schematically presented. Moreover, these models are employed in many different physical problems, such as the treatment of cancerous tumours via a technique known as histotripsy and lipid shells of membrane cells, that employ focused ultrasonic therapy as a non-invasive tissue ablation method. Using the mechanical action of bubble clouds, historic triumph destroys tissue differently than the thermally ablative techniques of therapeutic ultrasonography. Also, lipid-coated microbubbles are used in different therapeutic applications. Besides, the effect of different physical coefficients on Newtonian, non-Newtonian fluids, and viscoelastic media studied by numerical and analytical methods with external fields is examined for incompressible fluid states, and the Navier-Stokes hydrodynamic equations are investigated. It is anticipated that this work will serve as a valuable guide for the use of microcavitations in many medicinal applications, such as histotripsy, lipid shells in membrane cells and diver's tissue.

Different kinds of computer arithmetic follow an abstract mathematical pattern and are just special realizations of it. The basic mathematical concepts are sketched here. The concepts of rounding, of a screen, and of rounded arithmetic operations are defined in an axiomatic manner fully independent of special data formats and encodings. These abstract concepts are then applied and illustrated by the two elementary models of computer arithmetic for real numbers and for real intervals. In the latter case definition of the arithmetic operations as set operations does not suffice. Executable formulas have to be derived. We also demonstrate how this can be achieved. In an appendix we sketch a hardware realization of interval arithmetic and show that most of what is needed for it is already available on current x86-processors.
