Well-rounded twists of ideal lattices from real quadratic fields
We consider the problem of designing reliable and confidential lattice codes, known as wiretap lattice codes, for fast fading channels. We identify as code design criterion for finite lattice constellations a finite sum of inverse of algebraic norms, in fact the analogous for finite sums of the known criterion for infinite constellations, which motivates us to study totally real number fields with few elements of small norms, over which ideal lattices can be built to provide wiretap lattice codes. More precisely, we first narrow down our search to Abelian number fields known to provide reliable lattice codes, among which we look for no small inert primes and large regulators.

Probability estimates for fading and wiretap channels from ideal class zeta functions
In this paper, new probability estimates are derived for ideal lattice codes from totally real number fields using ideal class Dedekind zeta functions. In contrast to previous work on the subject, it is not assumed that the ideal in question is principal. In particular, it is shown that the corresponding inverse norm sum depends not only on the regulator and discriminant of the number field, but also on the values of the ideal class Dedekind zeta functions. Along the way, we derive an estimate of the number of elements in a given ideal with a certain algebraic norm within a finite hypercube. We provide several examples which measure the accuracy and predictive ability of our theorems.

Class number and class group problems for some non-normal totally real cubic number fields
Let {Km}m≥4 be the family of non-normal totally real cubic number fields as- sociated with the Q-irreducible cubic polynomials Pm(x) = x 3 − mx 2 − (m + 1)x − 1, m ≥ 4. We determine all these Km's with class numbers hm ≤ 3: there are 14 such Km's. Assuming the Generalized Riemann hypothesis for all the real quadratic number fields, we also prove that the exponents em of the ideal class groups of these Km go to infinity with m and we determine all these Km's with ideal class groups of exponents em ≤ 3: there are 6 such Km with ideal class groups of exponent 2, and 6 such Km with ideal class groups of exponent 3.

This paper explores the leading terms of equivariant Artin L -functions at $$s=0$$ s = 0 for finite abelian extensions F / k , where k is an imaginary quadratic number field. We introduce a module constructed from these leading terms and the Dirichlet regulator, and compute its generalized index relative to the torsion-free part of the unit group of F . The main result establishes that this index equals the ratio of class numbers $$h_F/h_k$$ h F / h k multiplied by an explicit annihilator index involving roots of unity. For primes p not dividing the Galois group order, we provide a p -adic refinement using idempotents from higher Stark theory. As consequences, we derive obstructions to the existence of integral higher Stark elements mapping to the equivariant L -value and prove class number divisibility under non-decomposition conditions for ramified places. These findings contribute to the verification of equivariant Stark-type conjectures and offer new insights into class number relations in abelian extensions.
Read more2- and 3-Modular lattice wiretap codes in small dimensions
A recent line of work on lattice codes for Gaussian wiretap channels introduced a new lattice invariant called secrecy gain as a code design criterion which captures the confusion that lattice coding produces at an eavesdropper. Following up the study of unimodular lattice wiretap codes [1], this paper investigates 2- and 3-modular lattices and compares them with unimodular lattices. Most even 2- and 3-modular lattices are found to have better performance, that is, a higher secrecy gain than the best unimodular lattices in dimension n, n is between 2 and 23. Odd 2-modular lattices are considered, too, and three lattices are found to outperform the best unimodular lattices.
Read moreExtending bounds on minimal ranks of universal quadratic lattices to larger number fields
There exist results proving that within certain families of totally real number fields, the minimal rank of a universal quadratic lattice over such a field can be arbitrarily large. Kala introduced a technique of extending such results to larger fields — e.g., from quadratic fields to fields of arbitrary even degree — under some conditions. We present improvements to this technique by investigating the structure of subfields within the smallest common superfield of two number fields, using Galois theory to translate this into a group-theoretic problem. In particular, we show that if totally real number fields with minimal rank of a universal lattice [Formula: see text] exist in degree d, then they also exist in degree [Formula: see text] for all [Formula: see text].

The security of many emph{efficient} cryptographic constructions, e.g.~collision-resistant hash functions, digital signatures, and identification schemes, has been proven assuming the hardness of emph{worst-case} computational problems in ideal lattices. These lattices correspond to ideals in the ring of integers of some fixed number field $K$. In this paper we show that the density of $n$-dimensional ideal lattices with determinant $le b$ among all lattices under the same bound is in $O(b^{1-n})$. So for lattices of dimension $> 1$ with bounded determinant, the subclass of ideal lattices is always vanishingly small.
Read moreHermitian K-theory and 2-regularity for totally real number fields
We completely determine the 2-primary torsion subgroups of the hermitian K-groups of rings of 2-integers in totally real 2-regular number fields. The result is almost periodic with period 8. Moreover, the 2-regular case is precisely the class of totally real number fields that have homotopy cartesian “Bökstedt square”, relating the K-theory of the 2-integers to that of the fields of real and complex numbers and finite fields. We also identify the homotopy fibers of the forgetful and hyperbolic maps relating hermitian and algebraic K-theory. The result is then exactly periodic of period 8 in the orthogonal case. In both the orthogonal and symplectic cases, we prove a 2-primary hermitian homotopy limit conjecture for these rings.

Construction of Arakelov-modular lattices over totally definite quaternion algebras
We study ideal lattices constructed from totally definite quaternion algebras over totally real number fields, and generalize the definition of Arakelov-modular lattices over number fields. In particular, we prove for the case where the totally real number field is [Formula: see text] that for [Formula: see text] a prime integer, there always exists a totally definite quaternion algebra over [Formula: see text] from which an Arakelov-modular lattice of level [Formula: see text] can be constructed.

Secrecy gain of trellis codes: The other side of the union bound
Secrecy gain has been proposed as a criterion to design wiretap lattice codes. Its analysis relies on the theta series of a lattice, which is closely related to the union bound on the decoding error probability. In this paper, theta series of trellis codes are computed by using a modified transfer function originally for the union bound. We find that the low SNR region of the union bound dominates the secrecy gain. Numerical results show that trellis codes can achieve a similar or higher secrecy gain with less complexity compared to unimodular lattice codes.
Read moreOn the use of explicit bounds on residues of Dedekind zeta functions taking into account the behavior of small primes
Lately, explicit upper bounds on |L(1,χ)| (for primitive Dirichlet characters χ) taking into account the behaviors of χ on a given finite set of primes have been obtained. This yields explicit upper bounds on residues of Dedekind zeta functions of abelian number fields taking into account the behavior of small primes, and it as been explained how such bounds yield improvements on lower bounds of relative class numbers of CM-fields whose maximal totally real subfields are abelian. We present here some other applications of such bounds together with new bounds for non-abelian number fields.
