The results of neutron and X-ray diffraction studies on compounds of the series ThFe5−5xNi5x are re-interpreted using the experimental data now available for similar compounds of the series ThCo5−5xNi5x and ThFe5−5xCo5x. It is shown that in ThFe5−5xNi5x, too, there also exists a deviation from the truly random distribution of the 3d atoms over the two available crystallographic sites. For all series mentioned the preferential occupancy of the 2(c) site is consistently given as Ni > Co > Fe. Es werden die Ergebnisse von Neutronen- und Rontgenbeugungsstudien an Verbindungen der Reihe ThFe5−5xNi5x neu interpretiert unter Verwendung der jetzt vorhandenen experimentellen Daten fur ahnliche Verbindungen der Reihen ThCo5−5xNi5x und ThFe5−5xCo5x. Es wird gezeigt, das auch in ThFe5−5xNi5x die Verteilung der 3d-Atome auf die zwei vorhandenen kristallographischen Platze von einer wahren statistischen Verteilung abweicht. Bei allen erwahnten Reihen kann die vorzugsweise Besetzung des 2(c)-Platzes in gleicher Weise durch Ni > Co > Fe ausgedruckt werden.

The magnetic properties of several compounds of the series ThCo5xNi5-5x were studied by neutron diffraction and magnetization measurements. For × ≧ 0.8 the compounds are ferromagnets. For lower x-values there is an antiparallel orientation of the 3d moments residing at the 3(g) and 2(c) sites, respectively. There is a slight preference in occupation of the 3(g) sites by Co atoms. Associated with the change in magnetic order type is a discontinuous change in the concentration dependence of the magnetic ordering temperatures. A discontinuous change near × = 0.8 was also observed for the concentration dependence of the lattice constants and the compressibility. All magnetically ordered compounds investigated give rise to a negative pressure dependence of the ordering temperatures. Most of the compounds ThCo5xNi5-5x show very pronounced magnetic history effects in their magnetization versus temperature curves. It is proposed that these effects are due to the presence of narrow Bloch walls in these compounds. Es werden die magnetischen Eigenschaften verschiedener Verbindungen der Serie ThCo5xNi5-5x durch Neutronenbeugung und Magnetisierungsmessungen untersucht. Für × ≧ 0,8 sind die Verbindungen ferromagnetisch. Für niedrige x-Werte existiert eine antiparallele Orientierung der 3d-Momente, die sich an den 3(g)- bzw. 2(c)-Plätzen befinden. Dabei werden die 3(g)-Plätze in der Besetzung durch die Co-Atome leicht bevorzugt. Verbunden mit der Änderung des Typs der magnetischen Ordnung ist eine diskontinuierliche Änderung der Konzentrationsabhängigkeit der magnetischen Ordnungstemperaturen. Eine diskontinuierliche Änderung bei × = 0,8 wird auch für die Konzentrationsabhängigkeit der Gitterkonstanten und der Kompressibilität beobachtet. Alle untersuchten magnetisch geordneten Verbindungen geben Anlaß zu einer negativen Druckabhängigkeit der Ordnungstemperaturen. Die meisten der ThCo5xNi5-5x zeigen ausgeprägte magnetische Effekte der Vorbehandlung in ihren Magnetisierungs-Temperatur-Kurven. Es wird angenommen, daß diese Effekte durch das Vorhandensein von schmalen Blochwänden in diesen Verbindungen hervorgerufen werden.

Abstract The phase diagram of the system UO3HClH2O has been determined. Five solid phases have been found: UO2Cl2.3H2O.2H2O, the basic salt UO2(OH)Cl.2H2O or [(UO2)2(OH)2Cl2(H2O)4], the basic salt 2UO3.HCl.4H2O or [(UO2)4O2(OH)2Cl2(H2O)6].2H2O, and the metastable basic salt 4UO3.HCl.8H2O.

Clustering in \({\rm{Cu}}_{0.435}^{65} - {\rm{Ni}}_{0.565}^{62}\) and the kinetics of it have been studied by means of diffuse neutron scattering. The cluster and size-effect parameters of the 700°C and 340°C equilibrium states have been determined. At 340°C and 320°C the relaxation of the binary system towards equilibrium has been followed. These measurements agree rather well with a model developed by Cook. The scattering patterns at 320°C show besides the normal relaxation a small angle peaking. The shape and the time-development of this peak suggest spinodal decomposition. This means that Tc must lie between 320°C and 340°C.
