Assessment of Nutritional Status, Health Parameters, Body Composition, and Their Predictors in Lebanese Taekwondo Athletes: A Cross-Sectional Study.
Taekwondo (TKD) athletes' nutritional and health statuses and body composition are critical to their physical performance and overall fitness. In Lebanon, TKD is widely practiced; however, there is a significant gap in the literature regarding the nutritional and health profiles of its athletes. This study aimed to assess the nutritional status, anemia prevalence, body composition, and other health-related characteristics, among Lebanese TKD athletes. Additionally, it explored the determinants of normal hemoglobin (Hb) levels, blood pressure, normal muscle mass, and normal fat mass. A cross-sectional study was conducted between January and July 2023, involving 110 TKD athletes. Hemoglobin and hematocrit levels were measured to assess anemia, while body composition was evaluated using a bioelectrical impedance analyzer. Blood pressure was also recorded. Household dietary diversity was assessed using the Food Consumption Score, and additional data on sociodemographic factors, training frequency, and supplement or medication use were gathered through a structured questionnaire. Logistic regression models were applied to identify predictors of normal Hb levels, hypertension, and optimal muscle and fat mass. Results showed that male athletes had significantly higher rates of normal Hb (p-value = 0.013) and muscle mass percentages (p-value < 0.001), while females had higher rates of normal blood pressure (p-value = 0.002) and were more likely to use iron supplements (p-value = 0.002) and painkillers (p-value = 0.041). Normal fat mass was positively associated with normal Hb levels (aOR: 11.98, p-value = 0.033). Female gender was linked to a lower likelihood of normal muscle mass (aOR: 0.13, p-value < 0.001) and hypertension (aOR: 0.19, p-value = 0.009). Higher training duration (10 h or more per week) (aOR: 3.46, p-value = 0.04) and normal BMI (aOR: 4.93, p-value = 0.003) were positively associated with normal muscle mass. Normal BMI (aOR: 14.68, p-value < 0.001) was positively associated with normal fat mass. These findings underscore the importance of individualized dietary interventions to enhance athletes' overall health and performance, through the optimization of athletes' body composition, and the prevention of deficiencies, especially iron deficiency.

Factors that influence the attitude of young people to participate in crowdfunding campaigns
This paper highlights the factors that influence young people’s attitude to participate in crowdfunding campaigns, and to what extent such factors impact their investment intentions. A quantitative approach is employed using a survey to gather information from Al Maaref University students about the determinants influencing their intentions to invest in crowdfunding and to explain how such factors affect their attitudes towards crowdfunding decisions. This study found that emotions and attitudes as well as attitudes and PBC are statistically and positively related. Moreover, personality types ‘Agreeableness (A) and Neuroticism (N)’ have a positive impact on PBC (with p ˂ 10%), and subjective norms (SN) have a direct influence on engagement intention (EI) (p ˂ 5%). PBC has a positive impact on EI (p ˂ 5%), and risk preferences have a positive impact on EI (with p ˂ 10%). In addition, results show that personality types do not have a positive impact on SN, and personality types Extraversion (E), Conscientiousness (C), and Openness (O), do not have a positive impact on PBC. Subjective norms do not have a positive impact on attitudes (p ˃ 5%). Moreover, PBC does not have a direct influence on SN or behavior, risk preferences do not have a positive impact on EI (p ˃ 5%), and demographic factors do not have a positive impact on EI. The findings of the study shall promote the comprehension of the influences that motivate young entrepreneurs to participate in crowdfunding campaigns. This paper’s findings benefit investors, fintech decision-makers, and policymakers.
Read morePatients’ perceptions of community pharmacists’ role: A cross-sectional study in Lebanon
Introduction Recognizing, fostering, and maintaining a favorable public image is crucial for developing strong connections between patients and pharmacists, ultimately enhancing the pharmacist’s influence on healthcare results. Consequently, this research seeks to evaluate how the community perceives the role of pharmacists in Lebanon. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted among the Lebanese residents over 2 months. One-way analysis of variance assessed the relationship between the perception score and the general characteristics of the study sample. A multivariate analysis was performed using linear regression models to evaluate the combined effect of predictors on the perception score. Results The study comprised exclusively Lebanese participants, with a slightly higher proportion of males (53.4%) than females (46.6%) and a diverse age distribution, ranging from 18 to 65 years old, with 9.1% being 65 years or older. After adjusting for covariates, females scored 0.25 points lower than males (CI (−0.65, 0.15); p = .217), while individuals aged 40–49 and 50–65 had perception scores of 0.18 and 0.55 points lower than those aged 18–29, respectively (CI (−0.83, 0.48); p = .595 and CI (−1.29, 0.20); p = .153, respectively). Participants from Nabatiyeh had a perception score increase of 0.82 compared to those in Beirut (CI (0.15–1.49); p < .017), and those working in non-medical fields scored 0.90 points lower than others (CI (−1.49, −0.32); p = .002). Individuals with at least one comorbidity scored 0.83 points lower (CI (−1.44, −0.21); p = .008), while patients with public insurance and those with a treatment duration of 6 months had perception scores 0.57 and 0.66 points lower, respectively, compared to their counterparts (CI (−1.12, −0.03); p = .039 and CI (−1.29, −0.03); p = .040). Conclusion Findings stress the significance of tailored healthcare and consistent patient-pharmacist relationships, especially for managing complex conditions, underscoring the importance of understanding these dynamics to bolster trust and appreciation for community pharmacists in Lebanon.

This paper presents the design and analysis of a phase shifter line for a double-balanced mixer with signal rejection. The phase shifter operates at 28 GHz and utilizes gallium arsenide (GaAs) transmission lines to generate four output signals with the same frequency. Each output experiences a progressive 90° phase shift relative to the previous one. This functionality is crucial for the double mixer’s operation, which downconverts a 2 GHz intermediate-frequency (IF) signal to a 26 GHz radio frequency low sideband (RFL).

In this article, we present an experimental study of OFDM transmission using a specific bi-directional fiber cavity laser based on a semiconductor optical amplifier. We show that in the presence of sinusoidal modulation, its frequency response presents resonances relative to the optical cavity modes. We investigate first the performance of the system in terms of Error Vector Magnitude (EVM) for different configurations relative to the frequency position of the OFDM sub-carriers with respect to the frequency interval of the resonant modes. The obtained results show a significant improvement in the OFDM transmission EVM by increasing the OFDM subcarriers per frequency interval. We then analyze the impact of inter-symbol interference and inter-frame interference on the system's performance due to the round-trip echo and propose a pre-compensation method that added a small percentage of the previous symbol inversed before transmitting it inside the cavity where a decrease in the EVM is obtained respectively from 21.4% to 9.6% and from 26.8% to 13.2% for 4-QAM and 16-QAM data transmission.
