The present study examines the background, nature of work, and skills necessary for the successful management of continuing care retirement communities in the United States. Results from a survey of not-for-profit continuing care retirement communities’ chief executive officers are given and compared to the last similar survey given 30 years prior. We discuss implications of these findings and provide recruitment strategies which may be of interest to scholars, practitioners, residents, and policy makers.

ABSTRACT Since achieving independence, Azerbaijan has employed its Islamic identity in its foreign policy to develop an international Islamic agenda concerning the Nagorno-Karabakh (NK) conflict. It has promoted the notion of Islamic solidarity and diversified its strategic interests in the conflict. The study aims to analyse Azerbaijan’s diplomatic strategies to garner comprehensive support from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, focusing on the 2020 war. The paper argues that Azerbaijan has developed Islamic diplomacy and instrumentalized religion as one of the components of its foreign policy against Armenia and the de facto Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh. During the 2020 war, Azerbaijan applied the discourse of Islamic solidarity and the Azerbaijani narratives on the NK conflict that have been introduced in the OIC during the last three decades.

The article poses and examines the problem of commenting drafts and unfinished texts. Practice of archive publications involves the presentation of notes not developed into a whole text. Study and commenting of notes (if the text they relate to is unknown, not found or lost) want special research or hermeneutic methods. The article covers the practice of study, publishing and commenting of materials to Menippean theory that is one of the most debatable research topics in M.M. Bakhtin’s works. “Menippean plot” can be found in the draft manuscripts of 1940-s resulting from the unfulfilled project “Menippean satire and its meaning in the history of the novel; it was partly opened in 1960-s while preparing the fourth chapter of “Problems of Dostoevsky’s Poetics”. There is a wide range of hermeneutic methods to study and comment the large amount of draft notes of various years. Studying the history of ideas in the context of the history of manuscripts allows following, step by step, the development of the Menippean theory, genesis and meaning of the main concepts and the range of ideas that were involved into Bakhtin’s conception on the different stages of its formation.

Abstract Given the estimated 4.3 million older adults from diverse racial/ethnic backgrounds who are living alone with cognitive impairment in the US, the objective of this study was to identify the potential moderating role of living alone in the use of healthcare and social services for patients with cognitive impairment by eliciting providers’ perceptions of caring for diverse patients with cognitive impairment living alone, in comparison to counterparts living with others. This study used semi-structured interviews conducted between March 2021 and June 2022 with purposively sampled providers of services to patients with cognitive impairment in MI, CA, and TX. An inductive content analysis was used to analyze the data. The majority of the 76 interviewed providers cared for racially/ethnically diverse patientt. Providers represented 20 professions. Providers elucidated specific factors that made serving people living alone with cognitive impairment (PLACI) more challenging, as well as specific factors that increased their concerns when serving PLACI. Providers also elucidated reasons for systematic unmet needs of PLACI for essential healthcare and social services. The vast majority of providers underscored the critical, yet understudied, role of living alone in moderating access to essential healthcare and social services among patients with cognitive impairment. Findings suggest that living arrangement are a social determinant to health among patients with cognitive impairment because PLACI are more likely to experience gaps in services because they are more challenging to serve than counterparts living with others and the healthcare system is not equipped to address these challenges.

The European cranberry (Vaccinium oxycoccus L., syn. Oxycoccus palustris Pers.) has a wide geographical distribution in natural bogs of Europe, Asia, and North America. The American cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon Aiton, syn. Oxycoccus macrocarpos (Aiton) Pursh) is more easily cultivated in the northern regions of the world and is therefore an available source of bioactive compounds. They are both rich in polyphenolic compounds (i.e., flavonoids, anthocyanins, and phenolic acids), which have significant antioxidant and anti-immflamatory properties. The cranberry fruits and their preparations represent important natural preservatives used against bacterial and fungal pathogens. Heritage related to its usage refers to the cranberry as a food plant and multiuse ethnomedical remedy. The results of the modern phytochemical and pharmaceutical research suggest using cranberry against urinary tract infections and as a preventive or curing plant against many other diseases. Today there are many new opportunities to draw attention to this plant, including cranberry tourism. In food and pharmaceutical industry the fruits are used most often, but leaves are also rich in biologically active substances, which can be sources for creating new medicines.

The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately affected nursing home residents and staff, including the nursing assistants who provide critical supports for older adults and people with disabilities. The pandemic has added significant strain to an already vulnerable nursing home workforce, which has historically experienced high levels of turnover, chronic staffing shortages, and high burnout. At the same time, it has generated awareness of the value of the direct care workforce to provide care in places for those most at risk from the disease. Job satisfaction of nursing assistants is as major driver of turnover and intent to leave the job. Research has demonstrated organizational supports and job stresses that are associated with job satisfaction and turnover. However, limited research has investigated the factors associated with job satisfaction in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic. Using data from an employee engagement and management system, we examined organizational supports (e.g., supervision, appreciation, safety) and work-related stresses associated with job satisfaction among nursing assistants in nursing homes (n=402). Higher quality of supervision, feeling appreciated for the job, and feeling safe and comfortable at work were associated with higher levels of job satisfaction. Work-related job stressors –increased workload demands and understaffing – were associated with lower job satisfaction. Our findings provide insights into the importance of employer supports and reducing work-related stressors in nursing assistants’ job satisfaction and practical implications for nursing home leadership regarding how to support workers
