Abstract Six weeks after the United States entered World War II, Baseball Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis wrote to President Franklin D. Roosevelt asking if he thought Organized Baseball should continue during the war. FDR responded the next day with his famous Green Light Letter, basically saying yes. Although this simple decision has been amply covered by scholars, its complex consequences have not. During the course of the war, more than a dozen executive agencies were called on to deal with practical aspects of the Green Light letter decision including the Selective Service; the Office of Defense Transportation; the War Mobilization Commission; the Office of War Mobilization; and the departments of war, treasury, and agriculture.

ABSTRACT This research investigated whether sequence effects, or facilitation from two consecutive trials that share incongruency, reduce taboo interference during speech production. Participants named pictures accompanied by distractor words that were congruent with (i.e. identical to) or incongruent with (different from) the name of the picture. Incongruent distractors also varied in emotion (taboo or neutral). Similar to pictures with incongruent-neutral distractors, pictures with incongruent-taboo distractors were named faster when preceded by a trial with an incongruent-neutral distractor relative to a congruent-neutral distractor. These results demonstrate that robust taboo interference can be reduced through adjustments to attentional control. However, naming on incongruent-taboo trials did not differ as a function of whether the preceding incongruent trial’s emotion was taboo or neutral, suggesting limitations in attentional mechanisms beyond those employed to control incongruency. Implications of these findings for attentional control accounts of sequence effects are discussed.

Accurately predicting blood glucose levels is essential not only for day-to-day diabetes management but also for the development of reliable non-invasive monitoring technologies. While continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) devices provide high-quality measurements, their cost and invasive nature prevent many individuals from accessing them. To explore alternatives, this study compares the performance of three deep learning architectures—LSTM, CNN, and a hybrid CNN–LSTM model—across two different data scenarios. The first focuses on glucose-only prediction using the OhioT1DM dataset, whereas the second incorporates additional physiological and wearable- derived features from the D1NAMO dataset. All models are trained and evaluated independently on both datasets to ensure fair comparison. In the Ohio glucose-only setting, the hybrid model achieves the lowest RMSE (22.5147 mg/dL), while the LSTM has the least MAE (15.5314 mg/dL) implying complementary strengths. Under the multimodal D1NAMO setting, once again, the hybrid model proves to be better in performance (MAE = 0.8605, RMSE = 1.1317), which indicates that the combination of the two can be useful. This increases the spatial and temporal features representation, when more plentiful physiological inputs are present, this is increasingly beneficial. The results highlight the extent to which prediction performance is determined by the type of data and emphasize the possible potential of combined designs in the measurement of glucose patterns and sophisticated nonverbal physiological patterns.

ABSTRACT This study explored culturally relevant literacy instruction through bilingual book clubs with Latinx fourth and fifth graders at a dual‐language elementary school. Using the framework of culturally relevant pedagogy—academic success, cultural competence, and critical consciousness—we examined students' responses to Spanish‐English bilingual picturebooks by Latinx authors. Analysis of book discussions revealed how students connected with texts and how facilitators either supported or missed chances for deeper engagement. Cultural relevance goes beyond matching books to cultural labels and should instead reflect students' experiences. Some texts sparked personal and critical conversations on racism, immigration, and language, while others fell flat, highlighting the complexity of Latinidad. This study emphasizes the role of student voice in cultural relevance and calls for a more nuanced view of culture in literacy instruction.

Citations are the main avenue through which scholarly contributions are recognized. However, decisions about what to cite (or not cite) are often made without much systematic thought. Suboptimal citing practices undermine psychological science. Yet psychological science as a field has yet to comprehensively discuss ways to improve authors’ citing decisions. We outline the importance of citing for promoting the cumulativeness of the scientific endeavor, which encompasses promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field. We describe how psychologists make citing decisions and some negative consequences when citation decisions are negligent (or even fraudulent). Moreover, we describe how citations driven by insular professional networks can reinforce historical exclusion and result in reference sections that reflect a failure to meaningfully search and engage with existing literature. Then, we review some potential causes of problematic citing behaviors, which include factors that manifest at the level of the individual, such as a desire to elevate one’s own professional profile, and systemic factors, such as the exponential growth in published literature. Finally, we offer strategies for the field, journals, labs, and individuals to improve citations. In framing our arguments and recommendations, we refer to empirical data collected on citing decisions from editorial-board members ( N = 213) at 23 psychology journals.

Invasive pests and pathogens are a major driver of biodiversity loss. Some rare species may persist through rapid evolution to tolerate or escape new threats, but representing the underlying ecological and evolutionary processes at the appropriate scale is analytically and computationally challenging. Tillandsia utriculata has been classified as endangered in Florida where its population has decreased significantly due to predation by the invasive Mexican weevil Metamasius callizona. Adult female weevils deposit their eggs in leaves of epiphytic bromeliads, preferentially ovipositing in the largest rosettes. Once the eggs hatch, the larvae consume the core of the rosette, often leading to pre-reproductive death. During the past three decades of predation, the T. utriculata population has shifted to initiating the production of inflorescences (to commence its single attempt at sexual reproduction) at smaller rosette sizes. Importantly, the rosette size at induction is correlated with the number of seeds produced. We have constructed an agent-based model to simulate the dynamics of a Florida T. utriculata population over many generations where the minimum rosettes size required to initiate inflorescence production (minimum size of induction or MSI), is an inherited trait. We use the model to explore how predation may have shifted the population’s genetic composition and the impact this has on population viability. Our results show that larger germination rates are required for population viability when weevils are present. Parameter uncertainty analysis revealed that in the presence of weevil predation, only a population with a very high germination rate and a short period of predation would sustain its population for 100 years with sizes similar to simulations without weevil predation. Furthermore, uncertainty analysis showed that the mean MSI of the population decreased over a 100-year period without weevil predation, and this trend was exacerbated by the presence of weevil predation.

The proposed system "Smart Wireless Charging System For Electrical Vehicle" is based on the "Wireless Power Transfer Technology" along with "Automated Control System" and "Radio Frequency Identification Technology". It takes "AC Supply" as an input, and it will be given to the "Cycloconverter" that converts one frequency of AC power into another frequency of AC power. This converter is fixed with WPT Converter, and the proposed system is classified into two major categories. One is the Transmitter Side, and the other is the Receiver Side. Both sides are controlled with the aid of a Peripheral Interface Controller along with Transmitter and Receiver Coils. "Ultra Fast Diode," also called UF Diode, is used here to transmit the electric charges faster as compared to the existing system. The final generated power will be stored in the vehicle with the help of a "Lithium-Ion Battery".
