Knowledge Fermentation Feedback Control Research in Sprayer Innovative Design on the Basis of Rapid Prototyping

This study is an attempt to analyse differences between product and service innovation processes. There is almost consensus among scholars about the steps and approaches regarding product innovation. Yet, for service innovation perspectives, scholars do not suggest a dominating paradigm. Moreover, due to nature of services (e.g., intangibility, perishability), suggesting a prescribed and almost a determined blueprint for service innovation process is challenging. In this study, we primarily aimed at examining and investigating differences between product and service innovation processes via a prominent and market leader company operating in Turkey. We followed qualitative approach and enriched our insights with interviews conducted with key responsible managers from the focal company. Insights emphasised key differences between product and service innovation processes and built on these differences, we provided suggestions. Further implications and limitations are also discussed.

PurposePrevious studies investigating the effects of using social media in the innovation processes of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) yield mixed results, and the conditions for achieving innovation benefits from social media are unclear. The present study seeks to contribute to the understanding of this topic.Design/methodology/approachWith a basis in the literature on open innovation and SMEs, this study develops a model that explains the role of social media in product innovation processes where technological focus and abilities are converted into product innovations. The model is tested through a survey of 305 Danish manufacturing SMEs.FindingsFindings show that SMEs with higher technological orientation (TO) are more inclined to use social media in their product innovation processes and that social media use explains 22.4 percent of the relationship between TO and product innovation performance. On the other hand, the data did not support the assumption that SMEs with high TO achieve higher product innovation benefits than low TO SMEs for similar levels of social media use.Practical implicationsThe results suggest that SMEs with lower levels of TO could increase their product innovation performance through increased use of social media in their innovation processes.Originality/valueThe study provides new knowledge on the role of social media in SMEs’ product innovation processes. As the level of TO increases, the use of social media in the innovation process becomes an increasingly important mechanism for deriving the full innovation potential from technological focus and abilities.

PurposeThe purpose of the present research is to introduce a combined framework that integrates innovative work behavior, product innovation process and customer knowledge management; then, to explore the mediating effect of customer knowledge management in the relationship between innovative work behavior and the product innovation process.Design/methodology/approachThe basis for the present research is a cross-sectional design. Data collection from 154 employees occurred using the following structured questionnaires: Customer Knowledge Management (CKM), Innovative Work Behavior (IWB) and Product Innovation Process (PIP). Data processing used SPSS version 26.0, including the PROCESS (3.5) macro analysis.FindingsThe results show positive relationships between innovative work behavior and the product innovation process (r = 0.420, p < 0.01). Pearson's correlation shows a coefficient of 0.42, meaning that 42% of the variations in perceived product innovation are due to variations in innovative work behavior. The second condition of the mediation test involved testing the relationship between the independent variable (Innovative Work Behavior) and the mediating variable (Knowledge Management) and showed a significant relationship (r = 0.272, p < 0.01). The findings suggested that knowledge management that other determinants supported, such as collaboration in idea exploration, idea championing and encouragement of participation in idea implementation, significantly contributed to the product innovation process (r = 0.509, p < 0.01). The bootstrapping method confirmed that innovative work behavior supports product innovation through the mediation of customer knowledge management (z = 3.01, p = 0.002).Research limitations/implicationsThe cross-sectional design, along with the relatively low number of participants and the self-reporting nature of the questionnaires, represent the current study's main limitations. Developing the research model could integrate new variables, such as customer co-creation processes, performance-based compensation, employee citizenship activities and transformational leadership.Practical implicationsThis research has both theoretical and practical implications. These emphasize the importance of further investigation into the factors influencing companies' innovation processes. They also provide managers with a means of finding a fit between the deployment of customer knowledge mechanisms and the achievement of innovative workplace behavior, to improve innovation process efficiency.Originality/valueThe current study broadens the empirical research area of customer knowledge management and its impact on both innovative work behavior and the product innovation process, particularly in knowledge-intensive market scenarios that require organizations to be innovative.

Persistence and learning effects in design innovation: Evidence from panel data

O estudo objetiva verificar a relação da estratégia de diferenciação e inovação de produtos com o desenho dos Sistemas de Controle Gerencial, nas dimensões redes sociais, cultura orgânica inovadora e controles formais, em empresas têxteis brasileiras. A pesquisa caracteriza-se como descritiva, e foi realizada por meio de uma survey em uma amostra de 101 empresas associadas à Associação Brasileira da Indústria Têxtil. Aos gestores dessas empresas aplicou-se um questionário extraído de Chenhall, Kallunki e Silvola (2011). Para analisar as hipóteses replicadas desse estudo, aplicaram-se estatística descritiva e modelagem de equações estruturais (SEM). Os resultados apresentam evidências consistentes das conexões entre estratégia de diferenciação e inovação de produtos e desenho dos SCG, cuja relação é confirmada pelo uso dos controles formais e pela inovação de produtos. No entanto, não se confirma que empresas que adotam estratégias de diferenciação atingem níveis mais elevados de inovação de produtos. Observa-se ainda que as redes sociais favorecem a cultura orgânica inovadora, mas não reforçam a relação com inovação de produtos. Conclui-se que os resultados coadunam com os da pesquisa de Chenhall et al. (2011), exceto para a relação entre diferenciação e inovação, em que não se encontrou significância estatística.

Linking innovative product development with customer knowledge: a data-mining approach

This study examines innovation among small-scale shea butter processors in Ghana, guided by Schumpeter's Innovation theory. Using a descriptive research design, the study investigates product innovation, process innovation, marketing innovation, and organizational innovation. Data was collected through a questionnaire administered to 181 firms selected from a comprehensive list of shea butter processors, drawing inspiration from the European Community Innovation Survey (2019). Regression analyses using Stata version 14.2 were employed to identify factors influencing innovation. The findings show the presence of all four types of innovation, with different driving forces behind each. Logistic regression analysis identified access to innovation support services, firm location, and firm size as key determinants of product and process innovation. For organizational innovation, the study yielded a Pseudo R-squared of 0.157, a Chi-square value of 37.036, and an average innovation score of 0.771. Location, product demand, and foreign training for managers emerged as statistically significant factors. Urban firms displayed a higher propensity for both organizational and marketing innovation. Firms in urban settings were over three times more likely to innovate in marketing than rural firms (odds ratio: 3.377). A larger product portfolio was also associated with increased marketing innovation. Younger firms tended to innovate in products and processes (odds ratio: 9.137). The study concludes that firm size positively correlates with product innovation adoption, supporting Schumpeter's theory. However, regional constraints may necessitate a greater focus on process innovation, particularly efficiency improvements and waste reduction strategies. Interestingly, managerial demographics (age and education) did not significantly influence innovation, suggesting that regional entrepreneurial spirit and necessity-driven innovation may be more important factors in this context. The unique geographical and resource context of the region presents both challenges (limited infrastructure, financial resources, and research institutions) and opportunities (proximity to raw materials, potential for community collaboration) for innovation in the shea butter industry. Based on these findings, the study recommends that the government and relevant stakeholders provide support mechanisms such as training programs, access to technology, mentorship, and funding to enhance product innovation capabilities in the shea industry. These interventions should consider the regional context and focus on leveraging local resources while addressing specific constraints faced by firms in different locations.

This paper examines the relationship between external relations and innovation in small, knowledge-intensive Norwegian firms. Our findings indicate that external relations are beneficial for innovation. The analysis shows that it is necessary to treat innovation as more than a concept. Our independent variables related differently to product innovation, process innovation, and market innovation.We found that market participation in product development has a positive impact on product, process and market innovation. We also found that top management interaction with other firms had a positive effect on market innovation and that top management interaction with external R&amp;D had a positive effect on product innovation. This finding probably indicates that access to R&amp;D resources is vital for product development in the context of knowledge-intensive products. The results also show that participation in conferences and courses positively influences process and market innovation and that systematic environmental scanning positively influences product innovation.

&lt;p style='text-indent:20px;'&gt;Although there are many literatures on firms' product and process innovation in recent years, the effects of advertising-based goodwill and consumers' reference quality on firms' product and process innovation are rarely considered. Therefore, the significant features of our study are: (i) introducing the concept and definition of the consumers' reference quality; (ii) considering the effect of product quality on goodwill; (iii) the customers' demand function depends on product quality, product price, advertising-based goodwill and the difference between product quality and reference quality, and the demand function takes a linear form. Our results suggest that (i) the system admits unique saddle-point steady-state equilibrium under the monopolist decision-making and the social planner regulation; (ii) with the increases of the product quality and goodwill, the corresponding investments also increases; however, with the increase of marginal cost and reference quality, the corresponding investment decreases; (iii) the monopolist's investment in one direction boosts the other in the neighborhood of the steady-state investments in product innovation, process innovation and advertising-based goodwill, respectively; and (iv) the monopolist will have an underinvestment problem as compared with the social planner.&lt;/p&gt;

The area of product innovation and competitive advantage among manufacturing firms is drawing the attention of scholars, as manufacturing firms also crave for sustainable competitive advantage but they are oblivious of the dots that are needed to be connected in order to ensure competitive edge over their competition. Many Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FCMG) firms strive to thrive and remain relevant in the market and a major driver for survival and competitiveness is the ability to consistently innovate and develop new products. The process of product innovation that will confer a sustainable competitive advantage on manufacturing firm is quite complex, time-consuming, capital-intensive, and resource intensive, especially at the design stage. This places a heavy burden on the manufacturing firm who are willing but not able to commit the requisite resources needed to develop such products. In line with these challenges, the large-scale industries easily exploit such opportunities, as they are more equipped with the technology, technical know-how, expertise, capital etc. It is against this background there is a need for a study like this to look at the issues that could be posing threats to the sustenance of manufacturing firm's competitive advantage. Primary method of data collection was used to gathered relevant information from the field, using structured questionnaire for data collection, the research design is descriptive in nature, 330 questionnaires were distributed across the 10 selected manufacturing firms, however, 256 were returned which constitute about 78% of the total administered questionnaires while the data was analyzed using 20.0 version of SPSS. Two hypotheses were postulated and the results derived shows that there is a linear relationship between the variables used to measure the two constructs which invariably mean that manufacturing firms in Ibadan metropolis uses Product Innovation as a strategy to gain a competitive edge in the market hence the two null hypotheses were rejected. Consequently, it was concluded in this study that product innovation has a positive effect on the sustainable competitive advantage of manufacturing firms. However, it was recommended that product Innovation deserves a greater attention and more commitment from manufacturing organizations so as to guarantees other benefits other than just Sustainable Competitive Advantage. This will offer an opportunity to the manufacturing industry and their respective players to know the necessary corrective measure that is vital in ensuring sustainable competitive advantage.

A product innovation approach that can have a positive impact on both the environment and consumers is biotechnology. Seaweed, a material obtained from the sea, offers a lot of potential. Future prospects for several industries include the use of seaweed product innovation employing a biotechnology method. This research is based on business issues and how to maximize existing potential. This research aims to study the performance of the corporate strategy and the development of product innovation in a biotechnology-based company, namely Ocean Fresh CV. Data collection was carried out by means of semi-structured interviews with the directors of the company and analyzed by evaluating internal factors and discussing using the Balanced Scorecard approach. This study shows that the Company’s Strategy and Product Innovation carried out at Ocean Fresh CV have positively impacted business growth so far. The results of this analysis will be made in the form of a Matrix Scenario Planning to be able to provide business solutions that can be implemented by companies for future business growth.

Market-oriented product innovation at Høyang Polaris and Jøtul

While current products of a firm continue to be top priority for business, the importance of new products increases over time and they may have to replace current products. Every firm has own way to sustain current products and make efforts to develop new product in order to show their strong presence in the market and stay ahead of competition. To augment new products, firm has to continue work on new product development and innovation. The critical success factors triggering innovation and new product development are-customer inputs, market feedback, changes in customer or consumer patterns, environmental changes, regulations, direct & indirect competition, product and process quality, things gone right, things gone wrong and supplier end developments. Firms have to nurture new ideas generated from these triggers, systematically, to fulfill their objectives. Firms have, to identify touch points and, to deploy mechanisms to collect ideas, feedback & suggestions. The significant contribution to Indian economy is done by small & medium scale industries and startups. Therefore, a study is undertaken to understand the current process of new product development and innovation in Indian SMEs and startups, to find out gaps to identify triggers and define a framework, which will give future insights to firms in Indian context.
