R/sup 2/AD: rapid robotics application development environment

Mobile app development within mental health is often time- and resource-consuming, challenging the development of mobile apps for psychiatry. There is a continuum of software development methods ranging from linear (waterfall model) to continuous adaption (Scrum). Rapid application development (RAD) is a model that so far has not been applied to psychiatric settings and may have some advantages over other models. This study aims to explore the utility of the RAD model in developing a mobile app for patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD) in a psychiatric outpatient setting. The 4 phases of the RAD model: (1) requirements planning, (2) user design, (3) construction, and (4) cutover, were applied to develop a mobile app within psychiatric outpatient services for patients diagnosed with BPD. For the requirements planning phase, a short time frame was selected to minimize the time between product conceptualization and access within a clinical setting. Evidenced-based interactive content already developed was provided by current staff to enhance usability and trustworthiness. For the user design phase, activity with video themes and a discrete number of functions were used to improve the app functionality and graphical user interface. For the construction phase, close collaboration between clinicians, researchers, and software developers yielded a fully functional, in-house-developed app ready to be tested in clinical practice. For the cutover phase, the mobile app was tested successfully with a small number (n=5) of patients with a BPD. The RAD model could be meaningfully applied in a psychiatric setting to develop an app for BPD within a relatively short time period from conceptualization to implementation in the clinic. Short time frames and identifying a limited number of stakeholders with relevant skills in-house facilitated the use of this model. Despite some limitations, RAD could be a useful model in the development of apps for clinical populations to enable development and access to evidence-based technology.

As the pace of clinical magnetic resonance (MR) procedures grows, the need for an MR scanner software platform on which developers can rapidly prototype, validate, and produce product applications becomes paramount. A software architecture has been developed for a commercial MR scanner that employs state of the art software technologies including Java, C++, DICOM, XML, and so forth. This system permits graphical (drag and drop) assembly of applications built on simple processing building blocks, including pulse sequences, a user interface, reconstruction and postprocessing, and database control. The application developer (researcher or commercial) can assemble these building blocks to create custom applications. The developer can also write source code directly to create new building blocks and add these to the collection of components, which can be distributed worldwide over the internet. The application software and its components are developed in Java, which assures platform portability across any host computer that supports a Java Virtual Machine. The downloaded executable portion of the application is executed in compiled C++ code, which assures mission‐critical real‐time execution during fast MR acquisition and data processing on dedicated embedded hardware that supports C or C++. This combination permits flexible and rapid MR application development across virtually any combination of computer configurations and operating systems, and yet it allows for very high performance execution on actual scanner hardware. Applications, including prescan, are inherently real‐time enabled and can be aggregated and customized to form “superapplications,” wherein one or more applications work with another to accomplish the clinical objective with a very high transition speed between applications. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. It is imperative that new solutions in Electronic Design Automation (EDA) appear to cope with the increasing complexity of modern chips. However, the lack of broadly available platforms for rapid application development (RAD) of EDA tools hinders the volume and quality of the contributions from the scientific community. In this paper, we tackle this issue by proposing a RAD platform for EDA tools that enables the contributors to focus on the problem that they want to solve instead of “reinventing the wheel”. The proposed platform encompasses a user-friendly Tcl shell, a standardized data model, templates for quick creation of commands, a system-level Qt Graphical User Interface (GUI) and a user customizable Tk GUI, all synchronized by an event loop orchestrator with distributed processing capabilities. The amount of “boilerplate” code is reduced to a minimum in each stage of development. Finally, we propose the usage of a Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment cycle to reduce the efforts on distribution of the tools developed on top of the platform. The platform was validated with the development of modules for the design flow of mixed-signal circuits.

Rapid Application Development (RAD) has been proposed by some as the latest ‘silver bullet‘ to address the software crisis, while others have likened it to ‘old wine in new bottles’, suggesting that it doesn’t really provide anything new in terms of tools or techniques. Researchers have noted that while much has been written on the subject, there is a paucity of empirical research on the concept in practice. This paper discusses the rationale behind the emergence of RAD and the fundamental principles underpinning it. The findings of a preliminary study which investigated the RAD phenomenon in practice are presented. Briefly, the study findings focus on the profile of RAD usage, suitability criteria for using RAD on development projects, and how RAD is used to deliver its mission of faster development, within budget and without sacrificing system quality.

As a result of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Venezuela, the country has seen a mass exodus of persons into neighbouring Caribbean Small Island Developing States, SIDS, such as Trinidad and Tobago and Curaçao. These SIDS do not have the infrastructure or local policies to implement a traditional refugee camp within their shores. Findings have shown the many disadvantages to existing or traditional refugee camp settlements. However, as forced migrants continue to pour into these Caribbean states, a technological framework is necessary to capture, manage and connect forced migrants to food and shelter using Geographical Information System, GIS, enabled web technology. Thus, the Geospatially Distributed e-Refugee Camp, GDEC, framework aims to define a burden-sharing model between non-profitable organizations and the government utilizing a free and open source software approach to foster citizen participation and rapid development. The framework is developed using well-defined and tested software development methodologies – Lean Startup Methodology and Rapid Application Development. It analyzes existing technologies used by the UNHCR to represent migration and related GIS data on the web. GDEC is a digitized spatial representation, using a service oriented architecture, of forced migrants housed across the island, the volunteers, safe zones and other relevant stakeholders within the system. This camp, though electronic and distributed, adheres to the standards set by the UNHCR and Sphere for refugee camp settlements. The framework will allow SIDS to roll out a software solution rapidly to meet the urgency of the refugee problem.

In recent years, the number and scope of events in the Asia and Middle East / North Africa region has increased significantly. Events are one of the things that attracts the attention of foreign tourists to come to visit a country as a tourist destination. Refers toMinister of Tourism Regulation Number 2 Year 2017on Guidelines for Venues for Meetings, Incentive Trips, Conventions and Exhibitions, explains that criteria and indicators are needed to increase the competitiveness of venues for meetings, incentive trips, conventions and exhibitions at the regional and global levels. This is done to increase the number of visits, length of stay, and expenditures for domestic and foreign tourists. Therefore, visual indicators or data are needed that can present the location of the event and a list of events in DKI Jakarta. From these problems, this study aims to produce a web-based spatial information system for the distribution of tourism industry events to map event locations in DKI Jakarta. Computer technology that is increasingly developing has created a situation that demands everything to be computerized. Science from technology has also changed the way of life of most Indonesians. The presence of information and communication technology affects the technology applied in information systems, especially the input and output mechanisms. One of them is at the Clinic which requires computer technology in its operations. The design of this website also uses 3 stages of Rapid Application Development (RAD) system design, the result of which is a website for a medical record information system. In order for clinical activities to run smoothly at the Clinic, an information system using the Rapid Application Development (RAD) method is needed because the software development process model is classified as an incremental technique and emphasizes short, short, and fast development cycles. Medical record system testing will be tested using Blackbox Testing and User Acceptance Test (UAT) testing.

The development of the internet of things has penetrated in several lines, including in agriculture. To respond to the development of this IoT requires rapid technological adaptation as well. To build a system quickly, one can utilize the Rapid Application Development (RAD) method. RAD is a model that allows non-experts to benefit from high-performance computing, while allowing expert programmers to take full advantage of the underlying hardware. This enables rapid prototyping, retargeting, and reuse of existing software, while allowing hardware-specific optimization if needed. The RAD system emphasizes the fast development cycle that is designed and high-quality results from other methods such as waterfall, agile, scrum and others. The system was built using the minimum NodeMCU system with the help of a soil moisture sensor. The use of the RAD method in building an IoT-based agricultural irrigation system gives good results in testing all functions and equipment controls. The average delay level on testing IoT devices is around 4.6 seconds so that the RAD method can be used as a reference in the construction of an IoT-based system.

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengatasi permasalahan tersebut melalui pengembangan sistem informasi layanan masyarakat berbasis web dengan model Rapid Application Development (RAD). Dengan pendekatan RAD yang iteratif dan berorientasi pengguna, waktu pengembangan sistem informasi dapat dipersingkat. Tinjauan pustaka membahas konsep pelayanan publik, metode pengembangan perangkat lunak, dan model RAD. Metode penelitian melibatkan tahapan dari Requirements Planning hingga Construction, dengan penekanan pada interaksi intensif dengan pengguna dan adaptasi fleksibel terhadap perubahan. The rapid development of the internet encourages people to live more practically and easily. Previously, the internet could only be enjoyed by certain people and its functions were limited. The internet currently greatly supports activities in all areas of life, for example, business and trade. At this time, business entities, both large companies, organizations and individuals have utilized the internet for their business, for example, business and trade in the food sector online. The popular term in the world of business and online trade is e-commerce. The Android application created by the author is a design for an online book sales system that uses e-commerce. This e-commerce book sales application is designed to make it easier for prospective buyers to make purchases and transactions through mobile devices and the internet. In addition, this application can save time and energy for prospective buyers. The process of this application was developed using the Rapid Application Development (RAD) method, which focuses on accelerating development through prototype literacy and direct user feedback. The main features offered by this application include book catalog management, ordering system, registration system, book upload system to be sold which is easily accessed via computer and mobile devices. The RAD method is the method used in designing this application, because RAD allows application development to be carried out more efficiently with user involvement from the early stages, ensuring that their needs can be met appropriately.

The CAR-2-X communication SDK is a software implementation of a networking protocol stack for car-to-car and car-to-infrastructure communication with IEEE 802.11 radio technology. The core of the SDK is a routing protocol that provides wireless ad hoc and multi-hop communication using geographical positions for addressing and packet forwarding. The routing protocol scheme is enhanced by various features to meet the requirements of safety and infotainment applications in vehicular environments. The SDK can be executed in various hardware environments, such as virtual machines, software development systems and embedded hardware for automotive and road side units. The SDK enables rapid development of safety and infotainment applications for CAR-2-X communication by providing state-of-the-art communication protocols and well-defined application programming interfaces (APIs). The advanced features and a high grade of configurability makes the SDK an ideal software platform for experimentation and evaluation of CAR-2-X communication systems in laboratory environments and real world testbeds. In this paper we describe functionalities and features of the CAR-2-X communication SDK and present the SDK's implementation aspects for the protocols and API. Then, we present a framework for benchmarking and evaluation of CAR-2-X communication protocols. The CAR-2-X Communication SDK is available under the conditions of a software license and provided royalty-free.

This study proposes the development of a QR Code-based attendance application equipped with offline mode and data synchronization features, using the Rapid Application Development (RAD) method. In PT.Bintang Energi Pratama, employee attendance management is a significant challenge, especially when the internet connection is unstable. Therefore, this system is designed to enable efficient attendance recording even without internet access, with data stored locally. When the connection is back available, the system automatically synchronizes data to the central server, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of attendance information. The Rapid Application Development (RAD) method is used in the development of this system to accelerate the design, implementation, and testing processes, and ensure that the required features can be quickly adapted based on user feedback. The results of this study are expected to improve the productivity and efficiency of employee attendance management, as well as provide an effective solution to the challenges of attendance in a dynamic work environment.

The Framework for Rapid Graphics Application Development: The Multi-scale Problem Visualization

Towards a continuous evolution and adaptation of information systems in healthcare

Rapid Application Development (RAD) is a methodology used to develop software. This method is able to reduce time to develop software. This becomes consideration in order to choose the Rapid Application Development as a methodology to develop Dutatani Website. Dutatani is a portal and a part of Integrated Agriculture Information System (IAIS). IAIS is an agriculture information system that has some subsystems that are connected and linked to each other. It also has an integrated database. In particular, Dutatani is able to manage user, manage content, and manage link in the IAIS. This website will be a link to other applications in the IAIS. This article especially discusses the development of the Dutatani Website using Rapid Application Development that is implemented by combining iterative development and system prototyping. There are some phases in the development using the RAD: planning, analysis, main design specific design, implementation and testing, and integrating prototype. This system was developed by a team which consists five members. The implementation of this prototyping technique was done by dividing five people into two groups in which each group had different responsibilities to different module/functions. This website had been developed within 150 days. Thus, in implementing the RAD, it is important for the team leader to monitor continuously. Monitoring is a useful technique to ensure the productivity and performance of each members in order to gain optimal development process.
