Secret Communication System and Cola Tablets

With the growing focus and development on the industrialization of the research and development (R&D) outcomes of universities, academic patents have witnessed significant growth in recent years. However, previous development directions for the technologies of academic patents have mostly focused on patents approved by or applied for with major patent offices; few have examined from the perspective of standard-essential patents (SEPs). This study examined key technologies of academic SEPs through network analysis. The findings revealed that most of the key technologies of academic SEPs are involved in wireless communication networks and the transmission of digital information, electric digital data processing, control or regulating systems, and secret communication systems. Among these, secret communication systems are key technologies in academia, and more scientific research resources should be invested in secret communication R&D in the future. In addition, the key technologies of academic SEPs have changed; specifically, image coding technology has undergone major developments. Accordingly, this study developed a key technology network model for academic standard-essential patents to verify those academic technologies that are vital to industrial applications.

The use of systems of secret communications as an economical method to increase the security of confidential computerized files has stimulated much interest. Just recently during Congressman Gallagher's Congressional hearings on privacy, it was repeatedly suggested that cryptographic-type protection should be used for data communication lines and storage of confidential information in order to make eavesdropping an extremely difficult task. Today, one finds the very nature of computerized information systems actually facilitates its unlawful reproduction and transmission to anyone with the tools and know-how. Unlike information which is stored with scrambling techniques, information stored in clear form requires no sophisticated technology, nor complex deciphering systems for either decoding or dissemination. More importantly, there is good reason to assume that organized crime and industrial spies have, or will have, the knowledge and the financial resources necessary to acquire and misuse the information in most systems now being considered, including the tapping of communication lines. Finally, once a piece of information is lost, its original confidentiality can never be regained. Since information which has previously been scattered among several rather protected and widespread sources is being collected into one place, wholesale theft of information is very likely to become a continuing fact of life for the American public.

Tactility bridges humans and the external world. Although human skin’s tactile receptors provide comprehensive perception, developing a biomimetic tactile system with both dynamic and static functions and rapid conversion remains a challenge. Here, we report a switchable dynamic-static tactile system. It features a rapid 1-millisecond transition between dynamic and static modes via light modulation, an all-in-one structure for simplicity and practicality, a remarkable balance of high sensitivity (198.45 per kilopascal) and wide pressure range (0.0137 to 207 kilopascals), a tunable sensitivity, and a sensing-feedback closed loop. The dynamic mode responds to vibrations, and the static mode responds to static pressure and superposition. In various real-world potential scenarios such as object detection and perception under vibration interference and human-computer interaction, it shows excellent performance. A closed-loop system with feedback and deep learning achieves user-encrypted Morse code haptic secret communication, paving the way for advancements in intelligence and virtual/augmented reality.

Covert channels are secret communication paths, which existance is not expected in the original system design. Covert channels can be used as legimate tools of censorship resistance, anonimity and privacy preservation to address issues with rdquonationalrdquo firewalls, citizen profiling and other rdquounethicalrdquo uses of Information Technology. Current steganographic methods that implement covert channels within network traffic, are highly dependent on particular media data or network protocol to hide data. In this paper we investigate the methods and an algorithm for implementing adaptive covert communication system that works on real-world Internet, capable of using multiple application-level protocols as its communication media and can be implemented as network application, therefore requires no system modifications of communicating nodes. The key difference from previous solutions is the use of adaptive redundant mechanism, which allows real-time underlying protocol switching and adaptation to the dynamic network configuration changes. Further, covert channels can be extended with P2P architecture in order to improve channel ressistance.

Physical layer security techniques have emerged as promising candidates in order to achieve perfect secrecy in wireless communication systems. In this framework, an approach is proposed to enhance secrecy, taking advantage of topological and mobility asymmetries between a legitimate user and potential eavesdroppers. As a specific example, an Alamouti Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) system with distributed mobile transmitters is investigated for underwater acoustic and radio frequency applications. The mobile transmitters independently emit pre-equalized - in terms of Doppler shifts - Alamouti OFDM symbols. As a result, the legitimate receiver effortlessly receives Doppler shift free copies of the OFDM symbols with standard diversity gains. On the contrary, eavesdroppers experience diversity gain compression and cross-symbol interference. A positive ergodic secrecy capacity is achievable even in the absence of an SNR advantage at the legitimate user.

Ensuring confidentiality of communication is fundamental to securing the operation of a wireless system, where eavesdropping is easily facilitated by the broadcast nature of the wireless medium. By applying distributed beamforming among a coalition, we show that a new approach for assuring physical layer secrecy, without requiring any knowledge about the eavesdropper or injecting any additional cover noise, is possible if the transmitters frequently perturb their phases around the proper alignment phase while transmitting messages. This approach is readily applied to amplitude-based modulation schemes, such as PAM or QAM. We present our secrecy mechanisms, prove several important secrecy properties, and develop a practical secret communication system design. We further implement and deploy a prototype that consists of 16 distributed transmitters using USRP N210s in a 20×20×3m3 area. By sending more than 160M bits over our system to the receiver, depending on system parameter settings, we measure that the eavesdroppers failed to decode 30%–60% of the bits cross multiple locations while the intended receiver has an estimated bit error ratio of 3×10−6.
