The Visual Information Structures Formation Model for the Visual Information Systems Processing

Visual illusions occur around us all the time, which present in nature and appear when you least expect it. It is well known that visual illusions can have a dramatic effect upon our visual perception of an object 's size and position. However, whether visual illusions have a similar influence on visual guided action or not, it remains the subject of much debate. The purpose of this study is to explore whether the visual information used to identify and categorize an object would be similar to the visual information used to plan and control visually guided movements directed toward that object. The outcome of this study will be helpful for designers to understand our visual information system and apply that knowledge to the design practice. In order to achieve the purpose of this study mentioned above, three visual illusions as the experiment's apparatus are applied to examine the relative effect of visual illusions on both the visual perceived center of an object and the position of a grasp on that object when a balanced lift is required. The results of the experiment show that (1) Illusions influence both the perceived and the grasped estimates of the center position, but the grasp center is more veridical; (2) Judd-illusion, one of the three visual illusions, has a bigger degree of effect than two other illusions on both the perceived and the grasped estimates of the center position; (3) By providing the participants with a mean to guide their visual perception of these illusions, the errors from the estimation of the center position can be significantly reduced.

The article shows the importance of solving various production problems using processing, analysis and display of visual information. The existing systems for processing visual information are considered and the insufficiently developed use of automated image processing systems in production systems that solve rather complex and “intelligent” problems of image analysis is noted. The prospects of using digital modeling of object images are shown. The article provides a literary review of works on the development of methods and models for effective processing of visual control information, which showed that there are many unresolved issues. This work is aimed at solving some of them. The relevance of the topic and the objectives of the research are determined. Based on the results of the studies performed, a model of the visual information processing system was developed. From the object under study, a video stream arrives at the input of the model of the visual information processing system, which is first selected as a sequence of frames (frames) of a fixed dimension. Then there is a preliminary processing of the information received from the object, its segmentation, extraction of features and decision making. Here, the traditional number of homogeneous segments can be applied, into which the object is divided using the principle of maximum posterior probability. The result obtained is then used in the adaptation block. The proposed model of the visual information processing system was implemented in the Qt Creator environment in C ++.

A Visual Information System represents a radical departure from the rigid text-in/text out paradigm of conventional Information Systems. It significantly enlarges the applications scope of information systems and typically sits on top of a general purpose multimedia operating system supported by multimedia hardware and a high bandwidth network. Unlike a conventional Information System, the types of storage and I/O devices required to support a Visual Information System generally include a much greater variety of facilities for efficient visual information presentation and visualisation. Apart from providing multi-mode delivery, the effective correlation between information of the same media type and information belonging to different media types forms an integral part of such systems. Visual information systems contain a substantial amount of non-alphanumeric information, and represent a radical departure from the largely text-based paradigm of conventional information systems. For the effective operation of an information system, data search and management mechanisms play a pivotal role, and a key requirement of such a system is the ability to search and locate information much more efficiently than a manual approach. However, for a visual information system where most data and relationships are non-alphanumeric, locating the correct information poses a new challenge. In particular, the database characteristics and storage structures required to support a visual information system are substantially different from those for a conventional information system. Here, the principal functions and components of a database management system for the effective management of visual information are presented.

Recent studies have challenged the ventral/"what" and dorsal/"where" two-visual-processing-pathway view by showing the existence of "what" and "where" information in both pathways. Is the two-pathway distinction still valid? Here, we examined how goal-directed visual information processing may differentially impact visual representations in these two pathways. Using fMRI and multivariate pattern analysis, in three experiments on human participants (57% females), by manipulating whether color or shape was task-relevant and how they were conjoined, we examined shape-based object category decoding in occipitotemporal and parietal regions. We found that object category representations in all the regions examined were influenced by whether or not object shape was task-relevant. This task effect, however, tended to decrease as task-relevant and irrelevant features were more integrated, reflecting the well-known object-based feature encoding. Interestingly, task relevance played a relatively minor role in driving the representational structures of early visual and ventral object regions. They were driven predominantly by variations in object shapes. In contrast, the effect of task was much greater in dorsal than ventral regions, with object category and task relevance both contributing significantly to the representational structures of the dorsal regions. These results showed that, whereas visual representations in the ventral pathway are more invariant and reflect "what an object is," those in the dorsal pathway are more adaptive and reflect "what we do with it." Thus, despite the existence of "what" and "where" information in both visual processing pathways, the two pathways may still differ fundamentally in their roles in visual information representation.SIGNIFICANCE STATEMENT Visual information is thought to be processed in two distinctive pathways: the ventral pathway that processes "what" an object is and the dorsal pathway that processes "where" it is located. This view has been challenged by recent studies revealing the existence of "what" and "where" information in both pathways. Here, we found that goal-directed visual information processing differentially modulates shape-based object category representations in the two pathways. Whereas ventral representations are more invariant to the demand of the task, reflecting what an object is, dorsal representations are more adaptive, reflecting what we do with the object. Thus, despite the existence of "what" and "where" information in both pathways, visual representations may still differ fundamentally in the two pathways.

Visual information is taking a predominant place in our society. With the advent of digital technologies, visual information will find new applications in domains ranging from communication, commerce to entertainment. New functionalities will be required that permit an extended interaction with the visual information. In particular, this is the case for digital television and the related problem of video sequence compression. The extent of possible interactions depends on the manner in which the visual information is represented. Up to now, the canonical representation is used. Also referred to as the waveform representation, it is a technical artifact of the image capture procedure. This representation severely restricts the functionalities available to the end-user. The latter is unable to freely manipulate or customize the received visual information. In this dissertation, we propose to describe the visual information through a semantically meaningful representation. This representation directly derives from the scene content, which is decomposed in terms of its constituting objects. Consequently, the viewing process is totally disconnected from the image capture procedure. This permits full interactivity with the visual information, leading to enhanced functionalities for the end-user. The essence of this dissertation is to automatically define the objects forming the scene arid to automatically track them through the video sequence. Two main issues are identified: the initial segmentation of the objects and their tracking. The first issue deals with segmenting the scene into its constituent objects. This has to be performed on the basis of the information available in two consecutive frames. In order to solve the problem, a split-and-merge approach is used. First, the image is segmented into small, spatio-temporally homogeneous regions. This is achieved through a top-down approach where spatial, temporal and change information is combined. These regions are used as a starting point to define the objects forming the scene. A bottom-up approach is used which iteratively merges the regions. The propensity of the regions to form an object is assessed in terms of both spatial and temporal information. The second issue deals with segmenting and tracking the objects in the successive frames. The coherence between the successive segmentations is ensured by using past and current information. Also, the different objects composing the scene are identified throughout the video sequence. This identification relies on temporal, spatial and spatio-temporal features of the objects. The proposed representation of the visual information finds a natural application in video coding. A second generation video coding scheme is presented which combines compression efficiency with extended functionalities. In particular, scalable coding is achieved in terms of both scene content and object coding quality.

The development of technology and information through the internet is currently very rapid. Delivering fast, accurate, and relevant information has become a basic need for companies. Technological advances encourage companies to develop solutions to facilitate the delivery of required information. With this Visual Basic-based civil case processing information system, it is hoped that it will facilitate data processing and provide information on processing civil case data at the Balige District Court. In this system, the author designed a civil case data processing system using Visual Basic. XAMPP, MySQL, and Navicat Premium Enterprise serve as database creation tools. The development components mentioned above are expected to simplify the civil case data processing process at the Balige District Court. If the process runs smoothly, the information system will meet expectations.

Many activating receptors in the immune system assemble with their dimeric signaling modules in the membrane through an interaction between their basic transmembrane residue and a pair of acidic transmembrane residues of the signaling module.

In this study, we investigated the role of visual and phonological information in lexical access of Chinese characters. Homophonic English words have been the main source of stimuli for word recognition research. However, since these stimuli also often look alike, visual and phonological information may be confounded in reported experiments. In contrast, many homophonic Chinese characters are visually distinct. In addition, visually similar characters often have very different pronunciations. These characteristics allow a more controlled investigation of the roles of visual and phonological information in activation of meaning. In the present study, two types of Chinese characters were used in a semantic categorization paradigm: integrated characters, which contain strokes that are not separable; and compound characters, which contain at least two clearly identifiable components. The results show that the recognition of a Chinese integrated character depends primarily on visual information, whereas the recognition of a Chinese compound character relies on visual, phonological, and semantic information. It is concluded that visual information plays a greater role in Chinese character recognition than has previously been documented.

In future smart cities, automatic landscape design can be viewed as a promising intelligent application to reduce the reliance on expert labors. As it is a kind of visual sensing activity, it is expected to develop a robust interaction platform with strong ability of visual information fusion. To deal with this issue, this paper integrates vision computing, and designs an automatic landscape design system in smart cities. The whole design framework can be attributed as three aspects of works: function analysis, structure design and implementation. Among, the visual information processing runs through the three aspects. Then, the generation process of landscape design is simulated in detail via a systematic case study. To prove the significance of visual information processing in our proposal, this article uses a model analysis method to compare the effects of traditional data processing technology and visual data processing technology. The analysis results show that vision computing technology provides technical support for landscape design. We also carry out some performance testing towards the designed automatic landscape design system, and evaluation results are demonstrated via visualization format. The designed automatic system is a proper prototype that can be developed to realistic engineering systems by some following completion.

Visual information had been found to be superior to textual information in enhancing processing ease, preference, attitude, and purchase intention. However, these visual format’s superior effects were mainly established for hedonic products (e.g. jackets, crackers) without a clear measure of objective decision quality. In complex decision environments (e.g. healthcare and credit card), it is unclear whether the visual advantage persists – especially when objective decision quality is a more important outcome than attitude or behavioral intentions. This research addresses this gap and examines the effect of visual vs. textual information on measures of objective decision quality in three different decision tasks (i.e. health insurance, credit card, jacket). The empirical findings suggest that the visual advantage does not extend to objective decision quality as measured by (i) the proportion to choose a dominant alternative within a choice task, and (ii) the proportion to remain with the chosen alternative when a change is allowed. Additionally, the findings show that an individual’s confidence in his/her chosen alternative was higher in the visual than textual condition for the jacket but not for health insurance and credit card decision tasks. The findings also provide evidence supporting the visual advantage effects on subjective measures of perceived time spent on task, attitude, and purchase intention.

Many locomotor tasks involve interactions with moving objects. When observer (i.e., self-)motion is accompanied by object motion, the optic flow field includes a component due to self-motion and a component due to object motion. For moving observers to perceive the movement of other objects relative to the stationary environment, the visual system could recover the object-motion component – that is, it could factor out the influence of self-motion. In principle, this could be achieved using visual self-motion information, non-visual self-motion information, or a combination of both. In this study, we report evidence that visual information about the speed (Experiment 1) and direction (Experiment 2) of self-motion plays a role in recovering the object-motion component even when non-visual self-motion information is also available. However, the magnitude of the effect was less than one would expect if subjects relied entirely on visual self-motion information. Taken together with previous studies, we conclude that when self-motion is real and actively generated, both visual and non-visual self-motion information contribute to the perception of object motion. We also consider the possible role of this process in visually guided interception and avoidance of moving objects.

Introduction The OSH Barometer is a visual information system on status and trends of OSH in the EU. The system contains data from governmental sources, statistical authorities, European surveys and research. The included indicators are updated on a regular basis, while apart from data referring to previous years, a number of forecasted indicators referring to the year 2035 are included. Methods The tool has four sections: “Generic information”, “Steering of OSH”, “OSH outcomes and working conditions”, and “OSH infrastructure and monitoring capacity”. These four sections contain indicators such as: • OSH authorities • Economic and sector profile • Workforce profile • National strategies • Regulation • Social dialogue and Worker involvement • Work accidents • Work related diseases • Health perception of workers • Working conditions and prevention • Enforcement capacity Results In total, more than 90 single datasets (sub-indicators) are included. Every data set covers all EU Member States and provides EU27 average values as well. Discussion The OSH Barometer offers filtering and adaptation to the information needs of the users. It also allows comparison between Member States and the EU-average. The tool went live in 2020 but is regularly updated with the addition of new features and indicators. Included data are used for the development of analytical reports, with explanatory and analytical descriptions of status, trends that reach back between 10 and 25 years, and forecasts. Conclusion This exercise can provide knowledge and insights for safer and healthier work, in an ever-changing world of work, to wider audiences.

The information processing mechanisms of the visual nervous system remain to be unsolved scientific issues in neuroscience field, owing to a lack of unified and widely accepted theory for explanation. It has been well documented that approximately 80% of the rich and complicated perceptual information from the real world is transmitted to the visual cortex, and only a small fraction of visual information reaches the primary visual cortex (V1). This, nevertheless, does not affect our visual perception. Furthermore, how neurons in the secondary visual cortex (V2) encode such a small amount of visual information has yet to be addressed. To this end, the current paper established a visual network model for retina-lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN)-V1–V2 and quantitatively accounted for that response to the scarcity of visual information and encoding rules, based on the principle of neural mapping from V1 to V2. The results demonstrated that the visual information has a small degree of dynamic degradation when it is mapped from V1 to V2, during which there is a convolution calculation occurring. Therefore, visual information dynamic degradation mainly manifests itself along the pathway of the retina to V1, rather than V1 to V2. The slight changes in the visual information are attributable to the fact that the receptive fields (RFs) of V2 cannot further extract the image features. Meanwhile, despite the scarcity of visual information mapped from the retina, the RFs of V2 can still accurately respond to and encode “corner” information, due to the effects of synaptic plasticity, but the similar function does not exist in V1. This is a new discovery that has never been noticed before. To sum up, the coding of the “contour” feature (edge and corner) is achieved in the pathway of retina-LGN-V1–V2.

This chapter presents some of the major issues and dichotomies found in the literature and use them to discuss the role that visual processing and visual memory might play. In many of these debates, the evidence is not decisive, but it does speak to the critical questions in the field. Visual mapping theories of spatial memory have suggested the most direct link between vision and spatial representations. The dominance of vision over other modalities can be seen in studies that put visual and nonvisual information in competition. When visual information and nonvisual information are providing incongruent information about the location of a single stimulus, participants will localize the stimulus to the visual source. Visual capture for locations across modalities extends beyond just the immediate resolution of a conflict. A similar type of coding has been identified in nonhuman primates, in the form of spatial view cells.
