In 1960, the term ＂visual communication＂ popular in the world design congress held in Japan, including printed newspapers and magazines, posters and other promotional material design, and television, movies, electronic billboards and other media, through the eyes to convey to the brain for modelling of expressive design is widely referred to as visual communication design, there's a phrase can express: show people design, design. Moreover, in the design of contemporary exhibition space, visual communication design elements are often used. These design elements not only have the function of transmitting information, but also have unlimited commercial value and propaganda effect. Left the concept of positioning, space design is only the so-called functional platter; Ignore the visual communication of visual language, no matter how good the environment will be due to graphic design style gap and left a failure. As we know, one of the most important functions of visual communication design elements is to help present the most complete visual effect in the spatial display. The organic connection between visual communication design and display space design not only harmonizes the relationship between two-dimensional plane and three-dimensional space environment, but also expands the cooperation between subjects and strengthens the research space between the two design disciplines. Only in this way can designers solve complex and comprehensive problems and help designers make full use of their advantages to create better works.

With the rapid development of digital media technology, digital media context emerges as the times require. Visual communication design also presents language features, aesthetic features and communication features, which have a great impact on visual communication design to a certain extent. However, based on the analysis of the actual situation, visual communication design is still in the situation of challenges and opportunities. Based on this, this paper studies the multiple characteristics of visual communication design in digital media environment. This paper expounds the main characteristics of visual communication design, and analyzes the changes of visual communication design performance in the digital media era. It also discusses the influence of digital media era on visual communication design from three dimensions: changing the form of information dissemination, promoting the development of multidimensional design and realizing virtual design. Finally, the paper compares the visual communication design based on digital media environment with the traditional visual communication design method, aiming to provide reference for the digital development of visual communication design. Research shows that visual communication design can reflect the characteristics of digital media era, break through the limitations of time and space, and bring more aesthetic experience to people. It is worth noting that on the basis of the visual impact brought by digital media technology, it is necessary to alleviate the contradiction between the progress of the times and the development of visual communication design.

This research examines using visual communication design as a medium for da’wah which is analyzed using Roland Barthes’ semiotic analysis on the contents of the punk hijrah community’s Instagram account @punkhijrah. Entering the development of communication and information technology in the current digital era, visual communication design has become an important platform for communicating da’wah messages visually. @punkhijrah is one of the many Instagram accounts that uses visual communication design to publish creative and innovative content. Roland Barthes’ semiotic analysis method is used to examine visual communication design in the form of symbols and meanings contained in posts on the Instagram account @punkhijrah. This research was conducted to find out and interpret the meaning of the visual communication design used by @punkhijrah as a propaganda medium with a qualitative approach, then analyzed using Roland Barthes’ semiotic analysis method to examine signs as a whole, both regarding content and meaning, seen from three elements, namely typography, illustration, and color. The results of this research show that the visual communication design as a da’wah medium used by @punkhijrah shows that the meaning and understanding of the signs in the content has meaning and an appeal to the public or readers to continuously Istiqomah do good, become a better person, more becomes more vocal about current religious issues, and stay away from evil.

With the continuous development of digitalization and informatization in the 21st century, we have ushered in the big data era. The advent of the big data era has brought about subversive changes in many fields. With the tide of the big data era, how visual communication design can more accurately and intuitively convey the information content to be expressed and can stand out among many visual communication media is the concern of every designer. Only when visual communication design is creative can the information receiver be impressed with the visual design content, so creative thinking is particularly important in visual communication design. This paper analyzes the opportunities and challenges faced by visual communication design under big data environment in detail, and puts forward several strategies for developing creative thinking in visual communication design according to the current situation.

With the continuous development of our country’s modernisation process and the continuous development of education, the education of design talents is getting more and more attention from people, the era of design as a “secondary subject” in schools has ended, modern people have recognised that the world of design is a world of infinite wonders, and that some design experience is an indispensable element for enriching people’s lives, and design is related to the deepest things in human nature. Design is closely related to the deepest part of human nature. As an important part of the design field, visual communication design is not only an education of design techniques as traditionally believed, but also a complex systematic project to develop wisdom. It is not possible to improve one’s design quality with only a little bit of technique. In addition to mastering design technique, we must also be familiar with the development history of design and its development prospect, have the ability to appreciate design and have insight into design, and fully explore one’s own visual thinking, so as to make one’s own design thinking more active. Visual thinking is a novel concept. This ability is inherent in us, and for designers of visual communication design, the cultivation of visual thinking should be richer and more diversified. But to engage in design through this ability requires special training.

Enrollments in online courses continue to grow. With this growth has come an increased need for instructors to develop content for their courses using digital technology. To address instructors’ abilities to develop content for a virtual environment, institutions have focused on the most effective and efficient ways to design online courses and programs. However, despite increased focus on the instructional design of online courses, little attention has been given to their visual design. This is problematic because research suggests that the visual design of online courses can improve the student learning experience. Given this problem, additional research is needed to understand the visual design of online courses, including page layout design and the integration of visual media. Three different studies were conducted to address this problem (a.) Study 1 is a literature review that synthesizes the relevant topics in visual communication design to online course development. The study addressed the mechanics of visual design but also external factors that influence visual design thinking. In this chapter, the authors seek to clarify the process of using visual design to improve the online learning experience. The chapter concludes by suggesting strategies that colleges and universities can use to help faculty and instructional designers learn visual design skills through the creation of a design studio. (b.) Study 2 is an exploratory qualitative study that investigates the ways in which educators in higher education apply visual design to their online courses through the design process framework of looking, thinking, doing, and critiquing (LTD+C). Semi-structured interviews were conducted to explore instructor’s use of a visual design process, application of visual design thinking, and perceived barriers in designing online classrooms. Based on the findings of the study, it is suggested that the visual design process in online courses can fit within the LTD+C framework and activities associated with each part of the process should be further explored. (c.) Study 3 is a qualitative content analysis of images used in online courses. The study examined the current use of images in higher-education online classrooms along with the ability of instructors to create, select, and apply images to an online classroom learning management system by exploring well-known frameworks of image taxonomy in online classrooms. Based on the findings of this study it is suggested that the current framework of educational image taxonomy can be elaborated upon and that instructors need better training in appropriately handling using images in online classrooms. The general conclusion promoted in this dissertation is that visual design needs more emphasis within the field of education from both practical applications and research-based studies.

With the progress of the times and the development of society, big data technology has initially covered all areas of society, which has brought great help to people's lives and enterprise innovation. In the era of big data, computer technology is one of the simplest, most widely used and most frequently used technologies. With the improvement of people's quality of life and aesthetic standards, traditional image design and visual communication can no longer meet people's aesthetic standards. Therefore, relevant design enterprises have introduced computer technology into the system of graphic image design and visual communication design, in order to innovate image design and improve visual communication quality. According to the quality and aesthetic problems existing in current graphic image design and visual communication design, this paper analyzes the concepts and functions of computer graphic image design and visual communication design, and then summarizes the system composition of computer graphic image design and visual communication design, so as to reflect the powerful functions of computer graphic image design and visual communication design system. With the rapid development of modern science and technology, visual communication design is also full of longing for modern technology. The emergence of new media has greatly changed the path of information dissemination and expanded the scope of visual communication design to a certain extent. Designers' creative thinking and visual expression methods have become more diverse, and visual language and design have broken the limitations of previous media, bringing creators greater creative space. Studying visual communication design art from the perspective of new media can provide good guidance for the development of cultural and technological industries, and also provide some help for the progress of human spiritual civilization. Therefore, it is of great significance to pay attention to the innovation and development of visual communication design in the era of new media.

Aims To enhance the teaching quality in the field of visual communication design and make students to improve in all aspects of moral, intellectual and physical development, strengthen their ideological education, improve their ideological quality and strengthen their understanding of visual communication design art. Methods By using mathematical methods to construct models, and making appropriate selection of the literature method, practical teaching method and investigation method, the author made a comprehensive study on the artistic problems in art teaching from the aspects of definition, function, characteristics and students’ ideological quality, and discusses potential solutions. Results It had a positive effect on teachers and on their teaching methods, so that they have a better understanding of their teaching work, to motivate themselves towards their goals, make the classroom teaching vivid and improve the teaching efficiency. Conclusion The art of teaching visual communication has a close relationship with the strength and quality of people's thoughts; so, we must strengthen the artistic quality of visual communication design education, to improve students’ ideological quality and the art of teaching visual communication design. In our model, the motivation of teachers to create and sustain interest in students studying visual communication design is stronger when the imagination of ideological content is broad, and when the artistry is positive for right triangle and thoughtful for backward right triangle. The construction of the model is like a regular triangle and an inverted triangle combined to form a regular rectangle mathematical model. It will make visual communication design teaching like Mona Lisa so that people linger.

This study focuses on making motion graphics for the introduction of visual communication design (VCD) for high schools in Tegal and surrounding areas with the aim of being a promotional medium for the D-III VCD study program at the Harapan Bersama Polytechnic. Motion graphics have advantages when used in advertising, which are cost-effective and time-consuming, with educative and communicative animations that make it easy for the target audience to understand the images and ideas that are presented in a simple and attractive way in an animation, the audience in this case is high school and vocational high school students. more interested in watching a video than reading text, this makes the content shareable across social media networks. Motion graphics are made using techniques and in several stages including initial concepts, script or narration writing, storyboarding, sound (voiceover, music and sound effects) and animation. As well as information on the introduction of VCD that was conveyed in the form of the definition of VCD, the scope of the VCD field of science, the role and application of VCD, VCD universities and the advantages of the D-III VCD study program at the Harapan Bersama Polytechnic. Through this research, it is hoped that it can become a benchmark for the development of animation and visual advertising communication in the D-III VCD study program and in addition to being a promotional media for this research, it is also a learning medium for students in motion graphics courses. Design thinking involves divergent and convergent thinking towards a satisficing solution with issues such as rationalization, creativity and how it functions during the process with design activities. The goal of this research is to understand design activities and cognitive processes during design phases through comparative analysis of novice and expert visual communication designers under theoretical framework. Research method for the study consists of three stages; 1) literature review, 2) experiment, and 3) analysis. After reviewing design thinking, visual communication design, and design activities and cognitive processes in design phases, a visual communication design task is performed by novice and expert designers in an experimental setting. Collected data includes concurrent self-reporting, writings, sketches, computer iterations, retrospective interview and researcher`s observational notes. Data assembled in one-minute time frames were examined by two coders for verbal and visual analyses. For the design process, all expert designers went through the phases of problem structuring, concept generation, concept visualization, design refinement, and detailing whereas two of the novice designers jumped into visualization followed by refinement and detailing. Experts worked on detailed design in between phases instead of at the end which indicates the ability to segment and conquer design task according to confronted circumstances. In reflection to design activities, novice designers produced significantly larger number of sketches compared to expert designers. Expert designers produced small number of sketches but they made substantial progress during the process. Novice designers used graphic software as a confirmatory tool whereas expert designers started working with computer from preliminary design phase for exploratory purposes. As for cognitive processes, expert designers exhibited more divergent thinking compared to novice designers. Expert designers went through divergent to convergent thinking for concept generation, and repeated the process one more time during visualization until meeting a satisficing design solution. Novices who overlooked concept generation went through divergent to convergent thinking during sketching and visualization using computer. The goal of this study was to investigate the thinking processes of visual communication designers during the entire design phases through comparative analysis of novice and expert designers. This study contributes to the comprehensive exploration of the design phases as most of the prior researches concentrated on the conceptual stage of design process. This sets example for examining design disciplines according to the design objectives, functions, artifacts, and how designers operate while designing. For the future research, specific issues found from the study need to be further investigated with larger number of participants for finding patterns of visual communication designers` thinking processes.

Previous studies show that the process of reproduction of nationalism through the reconstruction of national history and national identity is no longer always the elite’s initiation. Democratization and globalization also provide space for people to re-interpret the ideal picture of Indonesia. The learning tradition of contemporary society in general is an interesting fundamental issue. Global connectivity and the advancement of information technology have also created new habits in acquiring knowledge. As a result, contemporary society is increasingly ignorant of history and alienated from its cultural roots. This research intends to examine the extent to which visual communication design can increase public literacy, especially about the state efforts in reconstructing national history and Indonesian identity through the cultural-historical narrative of Spice Route. In line with President Joko Widodo’s vision to position Indonesia as the global maritime fulcrum in 2045, the legacy of the spice trade route, which is also an intercultural exchange route, will be proposed by the government of Indonesia as a World Cultural Heritage to UNESCO. The methods used in this qualitative study are auto-ethnography, participant-observation, in-depth interviews, and visual communication design methods through analysis of form-content-context, both descriptive and reflective. Through the findings, visual communication design has great potentials in increasing public knowledge on Spice Route narrative, especially in encouraging curiosity and willingness to learn more about Indonesian history and cultures.

With the rapid development of the times, new tools are constantly appearing in visual communication design, such as the use of graphic creativity in visual communication. With this as a starting point, this paper introduces the MOEA/D algorithm, which decomposes the MOP problem into a series of subproblems to be solved by decomposition techniques, using weight vectors to obtain the neighbors of each subproblem, followed by calculating the neighbor subproblems, dividing the individuals into segments, and obtaining the child individuals. Finally, the fitness of each offspring individual was calculated and cut to give the final level of each factor. Finally, the strategy of using graphic creativity in visual communication design in the context of Internet+ is calculated from the MOEA/D algorithm. The experimental results showed that by means of multiple control groups, the experimental group achieved a 30% correct rate for Q3 and Q9 quiz questions, and the experimental group had a significantly greater correct rate than the control group. Therefore, more design concepts and design thinking can be explored through the study and analysis of graphic creativity to help the use of graphic creativity in the work of visual communication design.

With the continuous development of China’s social economy, the competitiveness of brand market is gradually increasing. In order to improve their own level in brand building, major enterprises gradually explore and study visual communication design. Brand visual design has also received more and more attention. Building a complete and rich visual design system can improve the brand level and attract users to consume. Based on the abovementioned situation, this paper proposes to use collaborative filtering algorithm to analyze and study brand visual design. Firstly, a solution is proposed to solve the problem of low accuracy of general recommendation algorithm in brand goods. Collaborative filtering algorithm is used to analyze the visual communication design process of enterprise brand. Research on personalized image design according to consumers’ trust and recognition of brand design is conducted. In traditional craft brand visual design, we mainly study the impact of image design on consumer behavior. The brand loyalty model is used to predict and analyze the visual design effect. Also, the user’s evaluation coefficient is taken as the expression of brand visual design recognition. Finally, the collaborative filtering algorithm is optimized to improve the consumer similarity based on the original algorithm. The results show that the brand visual design using collaborative filtering algorithm can help enterprises obtain greater benefits in their own brand construction. It provides effective data help in the development of traditional craft brands.
