In 1960, the term ＂visual communication＂ popular in the world design congress held in Japan, including printed newspapers and magazines, posters and other promotional material design, and television, movies, electronic billboards and other media, through the eyes to convey to the brain for modelling of expressive design is widely referred to as visual communication design, there's a phrase can express: show people design, design. Moreover, in the design of contemporary exhibition space, visual communication design elements are often used. These design elements not only have the function of transmitting information, but also have unlimited commercial value and propaganda effect. Left the concept of positioning, space design is only the so-called functional platter; Ignore the visual communication of visual language, no matter how good the environment will be due to graphic design style gap and left a failure. As we know, one of the most important functions of visual communication design elements is to help present the most complete visual effect in the spatial display. The organic connection between visual communication design and display space design not only harmonizes the relationship between two-dimensional plane and three-dimensional space environment, but also expands the cooperation between subjects and strengthens the research space between the two design disciplines. Only in this way can designers solve complex and comprehensive problems and help designers make full use of their advantages to create better works.

In order to create more attractive graffiti works, the Internet of Things technology is used to collect people’s preference information data, and then cloud computing and big data analysis are applied to calculate and analyze the data, so as to get more design elements in line with people’s preferences, providing more material for the creators of graffiti art and facilitating their further creation of graffiti. In recent years, graffiti art, as a kind of postmodern marginal cultural art, has great expressiveness and creativity, which makes graffiti art widely used. Particularly in visual communication design, graffiti art has more characteristics and is deeply loved by the people. With the continuous development of science and technology, Internet of Things technology and cloud computing have acquired more information for many fields, thus assisting the field to complete deeper analysis and research. However, there are few applications in the field of graffiti art. Therefore, this paper combines cloud computing and Internet of Things to obtain more visual communication design elements to provide material for the creator, which is conductive for their continuing creation.

Visual design, which bridges the gap between content and formal language, is an important communication tool that strengthens communication. In this study, it is aimed to analyse the covers of Mimarlık journal, the publication organ of the Chamber of Architects of Turkey, in the context of visual design principles. In the data collection phase, document scanning from qualitative techniques was performed and 118 journal covers constitute the sample of the study. In the selection of the sample, the first and last issue of each year were included in the study in order to determine the representations related to the year of publication and to allow comparison of stylistic changes. In the analysis of the data, content analyses were carried out in line with the principles of visual design. The visual elements on the journal covers were thematically coded and scored. Period comparisons were made by revealing the formal continuity and break points with the coding. Then, descriptive statistical analyses were performed by calculating the percentage distributions of the visual types and contents on the journal covers. As a result, in the representation of journal covers with visual design principles, the first 20-year period in which the journal started its publishing life stands out.

To determine the optimal visual design mode for preschool children through the analytic hierarchy process and to establish a visual design method for early education apps. Methods: Using the English early education app as an example, the visual design elements were extracted using the focus group method, and their shapes were compared to those of existing similar apps on the market. Analytic hierarchy process was used to determine the weights of the two, and a design form suitable for early education applications was obtained. Conclusion: Analyzing the app interface design for preschool children using the analytic hierarchy process can in-crease learning efficiency and effectiveness, align the design with children’s habits, and improve the design’s usability.

Visual scaffolding, a type of scaffolding provided in a visual format, is considered to have potential in web-based learning environments as it naturally includes tacit information, highlights the critical features of tasks and promotes learning through the spatial organization of tasks. However, systematic approaches to visual scaffolding design principles are rare. This study aims to develop visual scaffolding design principles and guidelines in a web-based learning environment through a literature review. The specific visual scaffolding design principles regarding objects are 1) the spatial organization of information, 2) coaching, modelling, and mentoring, 3) explication of the task structure, 4) explication of the process, 5) explication of the cognitive process, 6) explication of understanding, 7) metacognitive prompts. In terms of visuals, the principles drawn are 8) ensuring visibility, coupling, and usability, 9) the use of appropriate visuals, 10) proximity and simplicity of the display, 11) spatial organization of the toolset. The principles regarding the learners are 12) consideration of different learners, and 13) manipulation of support and use. The limitations and future research directions are discussed.

Nigerian newspapers have adopted several visual design elements in their bid to appeal to consumers. These elements aid the navigation of the news pages and, in turn, enhance their readability. This study sought to find out the current patterns of the visual designs of four selected national daily newspapers in Nigeria: Vanguard, Punch, Sun, and Leadership, between September 2014 and August 2015. The study was anchored on the Gestalt theory of visual perception, while visual analysis was adopted as a research methodology. The data generated was analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 20.0 with the aid of frequency, percentage score, average, and the ratio of the information obtained from the newspapers sampled. Findings revealed that, though the four newspapers had specific formats, they obeyed fundamental newspaper design principles.

Window displays, as a part of selling strategies, not only convey the type and positioning of mechanize, but also the promotional strategies and corporate images. The study uses window displays for clothing to examine patterns, selling strategies, merchandize types, and target groups. It investigates the effects of design elements on the customers perceptual responding to configurations. The theoretical framework bases on marketing concepts, visual perception principles, Gestalt psychology, and design's principle and elements. Research found that 14 factors in the design affected to perception. The study perception indicates that purchasing desire and attraction had more relation.

There have been a lot of studies on the relationship between visual appearances of packaging—such as color, font, and illustration—and consumers’ feelings, but very few focused on touch sensation. Well-designed touch texture can attract consumers to cosmetic products and can be considered as a rarely-explored way of sensory marketing. The objectives of this study was to seek for design factors (design elements that can be associated with feeling words). Thirty-six different 3-D texture models were constructed. Their designs were produced from established 2-D visual design elements. Those models were tested by a group of participants to see whether they could clearly convey different feelings. Only 6 models were deemed valid in this sense. These 6 models were then sought for distinctive design factors. The 5 design factors that were obtained were the following: 1) structure of lines, 2) distance between lines, 3) small and large empty spaces, 4) line uniformity, and 5) number of lines. These design factors were able to elicit 16 feeling words: 1. Busy, 2. Tense, 3. Strong, 4. Confident, 5. Manful, 6. Delicate, 7. Friendly, 8. Gentle, 9. Sensitive, 10. Enjoyable, 11. Independent, 12. Natural, 13. Simple, 14. Comfortable, 15. Easy, and 16. Flexible. These design factors can be directly used by designers for constructing textured surface components of packages or products that can affect consumers’ feelings by touch.

Pre-school books are one of the indispensable materials of education life, even though technology has been developed, preschool books are still among the fundamental building blocks of education and it can be said that it will continue in the future. Preschool teachers' evaluation of 4-6 year old preschool books for Visual Design principles was aimed by pre-school teacher candidates. In the study, "Graphic / Visual Design Principles Scale for Textbooks" Alpan (2004), which is a visual design scale, was used. The scoring of the scale was calculated as 2 points for the "Yes" option, 1 point for the "Partial" option and 0 points for the "No" option. The data obtained as a result of the research were evaluated by scoring between 1-10. According to the results obtained from the results of the evaluation of the prospective teachers, it has been concluded that the books have different averages according to the scale dimensions, but are quite suitable in terms of general lines.

The purpose of this study is to discuss approaches for developing human–computer interaction (HCI) in educational technology (ET) based on definitions of visual design, learning variables and user-interface design principles in the field of instructional design and technology (IDT). We will do in several stages, first, we will review historical definitions of HCI and its developments in education and considerations for defining visual literacy for learning with instructional design (ID) models. Then, we will review each definition of visual principles for user interface design (UID) or user experience design (UED) and learning from screens. HCI and its roles with the perceptional approach will be discussed as previous definitions in the type of theories such as cognitive load, activity and paying particular attention to primary concepts included in each definition based on the ID model approach. We will also present some of the historical criticisms of the definitions, which provided designing and developing user interfaces. The process should indicate or address possible performance design approaches in ID steps for developing learning and teaching in learning environments as well as developing UID or UED in ET. This also indicates approaches in philosophy of ET and its theory, definition and applications of new technologies as well as UID or UED perspectives and visual design variables. In this study, we review the visual design techniques from past to present that multimedia project design teams should follow the strategies and rules for designing learning environments in industry, business and military based on philosophy of ET and HCI design with ID models by using the newest technologies. The process compares both understanding global UID or UED requirements and visual strategies and considerations for research and product design by ID models. The steps include recognising terminology in ET practice concept, psychological, technological and pedagogical foundations in ID as well as ET approaches and using visual rules for conducting multimedia projects in last decays. At the end of the study, conceptions of ET, ID models and HCI will be discussing to indicate design standards for multimedia projects in the field of IDT. We will also present the relationships between ET and designing problems for creating instructional materials in education. All steps in visual design, UID, UED and HCI design based on philosophical approaches and evaluations in the field are given at the end of the study. Taking the catering commercial graphic advertisement as the experimental material, this paper focuses on the Chinese and American subjects’ attention to the graphic, color, composition, text and those visual symbols’ categories in the advertisement. This study starts from the theory of cultural cognition and takes cultural cognitive differences as the premise. To explore the different ways in which the eastern and western communities deal with the visual information in commercial advertisements. Based on the principles of visual design in commercial advertising, this paper deconstructs the visual symbols in graphic advertising design and compares them one by one, so as to draw the difference of attention to visual symbols between Chinese and American subjects in commercial graphic advertising design. Finally, the evaluation results and relative weight values of various visual elements are obtained to form the priority results of attention of commercial graphic advertising design elements, so as to provide technical guidance for multinational enterprises and designers to design commercial advertisements more in line with consumer needs. The results of this experiment can be used for reference and inspiration in the application of the visual theory of cross-cultural cognition in the design of transnational advertisements.

Learners consume video-based learning content on various mobile devices due to their mobility and accessibility. However, most video-based learning content is originally designed for desktop without consideration of constraints in mobile learning environments. We focus on readability and visibility problems caused by visual design elements such as text and images on varying screen sizes. To reveal design issues of current content, we examined mobile learning adequacy of content with 681 video frames from 108 video lectures. The content analysis revealed a distribution and guideline compliance rate of visual design elements. We also conducted semi-structured interviews with six video production engineers to investigate current practices and challenges in content design for mobile devices. Based on the interview results, we present a prototype that supports a guideline-based design of video learning content. Our findings can inform engineers and design tool makers on the challenges of editing mobile video-based learning content for accessible and adaptive design across devices.

The objective was to analyze the joint profiles of social goals (responsibility, relation and friendship) and 2 x 2 achievement goals, and the pattern of their relationship with the motivation types of the self-determination continuum in Physical Education settings. The sample consisted of 516 Secondary Education students (267 men, 249 women) aged between 12 and 17 years old ( M = 14.48, SD = 1.59). Cluster analysis and a MANOVA 2 (gender) x 4 (goal profiles) were performed. Cluster analysis showed four motivational profiles: "high social and mastery-approach goals", "intermediate social goals", "high social and achievement goals", and "low social and intermediate achievement goals". The "high social and mastery-approach goals" cluster was shown to be the most self-determined, followed by the "high social and achievement goals" cluster. This research emphasizes the value of social goals and helps to understand the motivational profiles of physical education students from a more holistic framework. It suggests that responsibility, friendship, and relation goals should be prioritized along with mastery-approach goals (but not performance goals) in order to increase students' self-determined motivation in Physical Education.

This contribution examines the TB- and HIV/AIDS-related health promotion materials currently in use in the Free State (South Africa) and in Lesotho. It first considersthe cultural implications of choosing various visual and verbal design elements in a health-related message. It then analyses a number of health promotion posters on the basis of research findings and the general principles of message design in a multicultural context. Finally, a visual essay approach is taken, commenting on the roadside billboards and alternative health promotion media encountered in the Free State and Lesotho.
